I don't get it. What's so shocking about this?

Late to the party, but what annoys me personally is that I set up passwords for these systems not 6 months ago (even asking people here how to do it), and now I have to do it again because…reasons.

At least now you can setup 2FA and protect your 13 y/o account with 700+ games. ?

But it’s the same shit as last time. I had to generate a “device password” for all of my systems (again). When I generated them (again), the instructions still say to check all the boxes to automate sign-in (again).

Literally nothing changed in the process from the last time I did this. It’s just that now, I have six device passwords floating around at Sony instead of 3.

if you used device password before, then you dont need to do anything. It should work after the update. Worked for me at least.

But what password do you use now?

For my NA account is the same as my main account now (the device one)?

If i use my brother's, is it his device password?

You now use a generated password via https://www.playstation.com/acct/device-password to log in your account to this console. If you did it prior, you won’t need to change anything. If you didn’t, log in to the link and go generate one and use it for your account in this console, then check in “remember password” or note it somewhere, you’ll be able to use it indefinitely until you decide to disable it.

Your brother gotta generate his password as well to log in his account to the console.

Each account will created a designated console password for each console that account is on. If an account is put on two consoles, the account holder will create a password for each console, then click Save password so it doesn’t need to be entered each time.

I tested it out a hour ago and it still works.

How ? I tested over 10 times now. Whenever I launch alt acc game it immediately removes my main acc profile from trophies app. Never happened that before newest update.

Did sony do this just to be annoying? Why even update ps3 in 2022.....

Because the PS3 was a major attack vector for stealing peoples accounts and creating bot accounts that spam porn/scams.

I miss being able to message people from the website, i hope they restore it someday, with better security.

I dunno id think android is where most of these bots come from...

No, “android” accounts, which are part of the bot problem, are rarely stolen because they tend to not have a credit card attached to them.  PS3 accounts are highly more likely to have credit card info associated with it.

There are a lot of reasons to keep any device connected to the internet with purchased licenses and personally identifiable information as updated as possible. But for some people, the internet might as well be magic or voodoo because for them: stuff just happens, it just works, or one of my favorites: it ain’t that difficult.

And using this weird device password makes it harder to steal my account? Never had anyone try to steal my account... guess im lucky.

The 2FA is actually a good thing. I have a unique password for my account that I thought was pretty strong and a few years ago I got a notification that someone bought a $3 PS3 digital game on my account. I didn't even have a PS3 at the time and never had one linked to my account. Never signed into anything using that password beyond my PS4 and the web store. Better to be safe than sorry - I could have easily lost my account I'm guessing. Sony did end up refunding me "just this once" which was a bit rude, but still.

Yes it does. 2FA works by making your password into something you know plus something you have, where it is much harder for a hacker to get that thing you have.

So if a hacker is listening to your network (or another website where you use the same email+password is hacked) they can learn your password is RadicalDuckling5 (thing you know). But if you're setup to receive SMS for 2FA, they  can't receive the SMS (thing you have) to log into your account on the web.

PS3 and Vita don't support that kind of 2FA, so instead you'll be given a new random password (thing you know) that only works on your specific PS3/Vita (thing you have). So the hacker can learn this password is RandomDuckling6 (but not through hacking another site as you likely won't be using it on other sites, so it's already more secure) but can't use either password to log into your account on the web or any console.

Yes, it was already mentioned and tested.

are you sure man? I tested it today and I couldn't, because when you click on the trophies tab in the account that has the game, vita asks to log in again and then it doesn't synchronize the trophies with our account. Can you tell me how you are doing and is it working please?
