Popular Post Maxie_M0us3
A sneak update dropped in overnight for PS3 and Vita. Both updates state the following: Quote Singing in to PlayStation Network now requires a device password for enhanced account protection. Account creation for PlayStation Network and some account management features are no longer available on the console. Use your PC or mobile browser to use account management features with improved performance, speed, and safety. To sum it up: - From now on, you need to generate a different password for each PS3 or Vita you want to log in. To do so, go to: https://www.playstation.com/acct/device-password. From there, you can chose for the console to remember the password. It does not require to activate Two-Step Authentification. - When logged in to PS3 or Vita, personal information settings like email, account password, full name, card payments, etc, have now to be managed on other devices as well, or from: https://www.playstation.com/acct/management. - If you plan on creating a new account, it’s going to be on either PC, mobile, PS4 or PS5, then you can log in with this freshly created account on PS3 or Vita, with an aforementioned generated password for the consoles. You can create an account via browser at: https://www.playstation.com/acct/create-account. Accessing these features via a PS3 or Vita are simplified by scanning QR codes from the screen. Popular Post AJ_Radio
One step forward, two steps backward. I have no plans to make another account for either system in the future. I absolutely hate sneak updates. Love when big corporations make updates like this that actually hinder the experience, rather than enhance it.
aimeraya
Seriously i don't understand this description of update. It means that we can no longer register a new account on PSV or PS3? Or we can't even create an exisiting account on PSV or PS3?
Sendai-Horatio
Sounds like it's requiring 2 step authentication.

As of right now I haven’t played my PS3 since 1 AM PST when I was trying out Gran Turismo 6. So I can’t give you the details.

Popular Post Pray_4_the_End
Sounds to me like they're just making you go straight to the website to make new accounts instead of doing it on the consoles themselves. Not really anything to get too worked up about imo if that's the case, it's a mildly inconvenient at best. Don't get me wrong I love my Vita and PS3 but the wifi chips in those things are ancient now and most phones are considerably faster than both I'd assume. Makes sense for them to want people to just do it online from a phone, pc, or a new console. Pretty shitty move to just stealth drop it without giving anyone any warnings, can't say I'm surprised though... Sony's gonna Sony ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sony's gonna Sony ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Most websites have this so I’ve done two-step authentication multiple times. This is decade and a half old technology, and to stealth drop this update is just a big no no to me.
Popular Post James Tiger
Wow, Sony never fail to surprise me with ps3/vita update, they remove credit card payment methods, now removes account creation. They even want to shut down ps store for ps3 and vita. What's next, disable trophy feature ?

Although PS3 technically exists on the PS4/PS5 via PS Now. You basically have to live stream it, which requires a good internet connection.

Popular Post AJ_Radio
Just tried to make a new account on my PS3 console and this is the screen you get when you try to do so.... I was able to log onto my main account with no issues. So basically you have to go to the website provided to make a new account.
StarWolf3000
If you were logged-in before the update on both PS Vita and PS3 (without 2FA and device passwords set up), the device password requirement won't affect you unless you logout, change your password or create a new PSN account.
Popular Post You
Hmm, I knew about this a week ago, was an official e-mail from Sony. It does seem pretty scummy though. Like with Vita, it's not possible to send messages on it, even to yourself, I mean how stupid is that? You need to create screenshots on it and then use the crappy browser to send the pictures to yourself through webmail. (You can connect through PS3 or PS4 but you need to be connected to the Internet and logged into PSN, and how long before that feature also gets removed?!) " Use your PC or mobile browser " I mean, not everyone has the ability to do that. Which begs the question why should you need to use an external device, when the ACTUAL DEVICE ITSELF was able to do it. It's like someone taking a sledge hammer to your knee, and then being told; Well, you can use a wheelchair, or get someone to get stuff for you! And you're like. Erm, what was wrong using my own legs?
Popular Post LunchCannon54
Sony using the classic Japanese approach of not outright kicking you out yet making it as uncomfortable and inconvenient as possible to get you to move on. Popular Post Z1MZUM
Sony, Famous for crippling old products. Oh but we can stream these old games even though it's cheaper to buy a PS3 with the actual game. I hope the service fails miserably tbh.

I decided to update a PS3 and I was able to sign into accounts on it without a device setup password so maybe this change only affects new accounts that you add to PS3 consoles. Otherwise yeah, if you need unique number for each account.
Sendai-Horatio
ok it's just new accounts, just tested my boosters and they all logged in, no changes needed. Edited May 10, 2022 by Sendai-Horatio

Right, but the case I was thinking about was: if I create fresh account and I'm forced to enable 2FA *and* Sony forces me to use unique phone number.
