I don't live in the U.S. but I would own a gun if I could. I doubt I would carry it everywere I go, I would keep it on my house, away from children and unexperienced people (suposse I take a course of wathever). Like many poeple said, if I have to protect my family and have a gun at hand, I'll use it.

When you make guns legal, anyone can own them.

Good. When that happens crime goes down cause the criminal is afraid of committing a crime when he can have the tables turned upon him/her. A disarmed public is a victim waiting to be victimized. Since the number of law-abiding citizens will outweigh the criminals, the odds are against those looking to do harm to others.

Well guns have their uses and would really help those needing protection to a degree.

Though i wouldn't buy one only cause US police are rather racist and i feel this'll lead to a "self defense from gang banger scenario" which me in a body bag

Really now? Out of curiosity how many encounters have you had with police officers? Since you're so quick so judge thousands upon thousands of people you've never met, who risk their lives daily for about $16/hour (starting) I'm genuinely curious how you came to that conclusion. I guess all gamers are fat slobs who live in their mothers basement and jerk off to furry porn. I strongly suggest people to take part in ride-a-longs with their local law enforcement. Some of the things we do that seem stupid to a civilian makes perfect sense when you're put into out shoes. Say something like a simple traffic stop and backup arrives. Most people assume the police are just bored as hell and are wasting our taxpayers precious money by having backup come to a simple stop, but when you realize that officers get murdered over something as stupid as a traffic stop you'll know why we do some of those things. Yeah, officers are sworn to protect and serve but we also want to go home to our families at the end of the day too, so we're going to do anything in our power to protect ourselves and the innocent people from who we perceive as a threat. If you aren't a threat then there is absolutely no reason to be worried but if you aren't a threat but you ACT like a threat, you will be treated as such. But yeah, way to go stereotyping all these people you've never met.

Yeah, except for the laws we make that state the people who can't own firearms. You know like felons and people with mental issues. Like I've said countless times, guns aren't the issue in the same way that games aren't an issue in violent crimes. Both are just a cop out and prevents people from getting to the actual problem. I'll admit that we have some stupid gun law loopholes that need to be taken care of that allow people who shouldn't own a gun access to one, but banning guns outright will do nothing other than cause even more violence.

Well personally speaking i've had a few encounters with police officers starting from the age of 12 and all of them were pointless and unnecessary as it really had no value and imo it just seemed like they were bored and just passing time by hassling me. And i never acted like a threat so i saw no reason as to why they would even bother approaching me in the first place unless i missed the memo about how standing at a bus stop and looking at the time on a cellphone is now threatening.  But you're right in that it was a poor choice of words to generalize all cops as one entity as im sure there are some really great cops out there that by the hundreds if not thousands, but considering how cops tend to be highly aggressive to those that are considered minorities even when some of them have done nothing wrong, i feel saying that my statement is rather plausible. You're also right that considering most people haven't been in your shoes that they in fact wouldn't understand the things you guys have to go through and how dangerous your jobs really are especially for starting $16/hour (really low pay imo). And i understand that you guys when stopping people have no idea whether that person is dangerous or not till the last minute, but there are times when you guys use excessive force even when its not needed.  Now sure you guys don't wanna let your guard down and risk dying but there are times when cops abuse their power and make it seem like all they were doing were trying to protect themselves, so it makes you question the reasoning for some of their actions and whether they can be fully trusted to protect others

This guy here knows what he is talking about, if you have a competent institution capable of regulate who owns a gun there is no reason why everybody should be shooting thenselves like in the wild west movies. Not everybody should have a gun, I believe someone with one should attend to a psych periodically, and nobody with a criminal record should be able to hold one. But then again, that kind of regulation requires a huge investment from goverments, and honestly thats not their primary concern.

I know a few people who own guns and yes I would like too own one in the near future as well but with all the gun laws they are enforcing it's a joke. Also the prices just for a gun are ridiculous, it's hard too own anything in this day-n-age with the stupid economy (US Resident). I understand with all the recent violence that has happened with the Sandy Hook shooting, Movie theater in Colorado, and the Tucson AZ shooting of U.S Representative Gabrielle Giffords ect. Also I live in Tucson to so it had a big affect on me. Talking about guns is very controversial and a sensitive subject but here is my view on it. People are killing people not the guns, it is the Decay in society that all this is unfolding, I rather have a gun instead of a knife or a bat when someone is breaking into my home so i know there not going to get back up and harm my family but anyways that's my look at it

The real Wild West was never like the Wild West of the movies. Gunfights were rare and infrequent.

Hey now...don't be talking about my furry porn collection now...and I ain't living in the basement...

Live in Europe (doesn't really matter where as the rules are pretty much the same) so we do'nt get guns and I have never felt the need for one. For protection or otherwise. knifes are much more of a problem herebut even that is only in certain fights. I won't go into my thoughts as it usually brings out the bad side in certain people ....

Strangly the only killings I really hear in regards to guns are between gangs or the gangs/police, not even bystanders ....

gun laws are decently strick in canada (for handguns as far as I know) it seems like too much work to get your license. even if I could just walk down the street and get one I still wouldn't. I do however wanna shoot a gun at a gun range. just to know what its like.

I really think that you were the one judging here. In my concept he was talking about policemen in his neighborhood, not in the world. Maybe there policemen are so used to see minorities commiting crimes and killing people that they usually engage them even if they are not doing anything. I understand his point because i too live in a place like i mentioned. I was already engaged by policemen while just hanging around with some afrodescendent friends while hanging out in the same place with white friends near the same cops i wasn't. It's not about prejudice against the cops, it's how they act in different places with different people. Both me and him, never wanted to judge policemen in general, we are only talking about cases that happened with us. Be careful before taking offenses that weren't made against your work class.

  • 1 year later...

Well I own 3 hand gun's and carry one everyday for work.

That's cool. What do you do?

I own 7 guns at the moment. I like target shooting as a hobby, I am trying to get into hunting and I will ALWAYS own at least 1 gun for self defense no matter how poor I might be. There are too many guns in America for them to ever disappear even if outlawed. If the criminals have them then you unnecessarily risk being a victim if you don't get one to defend yourself and your loved ones.

Only about 2 months after getting married, I was feeling like now that I am the man of the house, it's up to me to defend myself and my wife. So I got my first handgun. We moved into a decent apartment in a pretty crappy neighborhood to save money. After living there 2 years, we were woken up at 6 am by a guy banging loudly on our sliding glass door repeating over and over, "I'm gonna kill you white boy." It didn't end up being anyone we knew, just some random idiot high on something. Anyway, I grabbed my loaded gun from my night stand and went over and pointed it at the guy through the glass door and let him know that if he were to step foot in my apartment, that his life would be over. He left shortly after and the police for some reason took 10 minutes to show up and didn't catch the guy. I'm not knocking law enforcement by saying that since I have a ton of respect for most of them but sometimes they are just too busy to get there in time to save you. My gun possibly saved our lives that day. That's why I will always own one. Sorry for the long story.

I think it is illegal to own a gun here in the UK or at least they're very strict with it? The closest I had to a gun is those kinds where the ammo is pellets, great for target practice, painful as hell if you ever get hit by one.. And a bow, which was also for target practice.
