Platinum Every Genre Challenge

84 posts in this topic

Neat idea for an event. This hobby has always encouraged me to branch out and try to find fun games to platinum in different genres and has opened a lot of doors for me that way. This is a fun way to help everyone expand their horizons.

Thanks man! That's what I'm hoping for! I thought I'd platinum'd one of every genre but as I was making this I found 8-9 that I hadn't done yet so Ima get them done as a part of this!

This seems really interesting! Seeing as how I already completed your other challenge this year, I will seek to do the same for this one!

Yeah having them all laid out like that is interesting, there’s definitely a handful that I don’t think I’ve explored yet myself. I might sign up for this at a later date as it looks like a fantastic way to find and discover some new games, the only reason I hesitate now is because I’m a little over-extended with events this year and want to make sure I can finish some of the ones I’ve already committed to. 😛

I will look at my backlog tomorrow and see how it looks. Great idea though, and it does help branch out to new genres.

I've always tought about this as a nice challange idea ever since the A to Z platinum challange came out (which I stil haven't completed lol). Through the years I have conquer genres I've never thought I will y'know stuff like fighting/racing games and even thought I don't consider myself a pro at these, nowdays I can safely say I'm no longer a newbie at them. This is a nice chance for players to go out of their comfort zones and tackle new games and maybe discover some genres they don't even know they like.

Originally I tought this was going to be too much of a complex theme since there are pretty much an infinite amount of genres out there so I like that you went with the IGDB/theme approach to keep things nice and simple so props for that!

I will be listing my favorite/proudest platinum from each genre. I still have a few to get but hopefully I'll be done with it through the year.

Cool idea as an "Try genres you wouldn't play"-style list. Looking through my stuff, I got almost all of them.

Spoiler

4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate): Sid Meier's Civilization VI

Action: Ratchet & Clank

Adventure: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Arcade: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

Business: Grand Theft Auto III

Comedy: Saints Row: The Third

Drama: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Educational: Trivial Pursuit

Erotic: Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash

Fantasy: The Order: 1886

Fighting: Mortal Kombat 11

Hack and slash/Beat 'em up: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Horror: Resident Evil 5

Indie: Nexomon: Extinction

Kids: Disney Infinity

MOBA: N/A

Music: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F

Mystery: L.A. Noire

Non-fiction: Project Cars 2

Open world: Grand Theft Auto V

Pinball:

Platform: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

Point-and-click: Day of the Tentacle

Puzzle: The Witness

Quiz/Trivia: You Don't Know Jack

Racing: Burnout Paradise Remastered

Real Time Strategy (RTS): Battleship

Role-playing (RPG): Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Romance:

Sandbox: Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Science-Fiction: Stein's Gate

Shooter: Borderlands

Simulator: Goat Simulator

Sport: Rocket League

Stealth: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Strategy: Hitman GO

Survival: Minecraft

Tactical: Hitman: Absolution

Thriller: Heavy Rain

Turn-based strategy (TBS): Knight of Pen and Paper +1

Visual Novel: Zero Escape: The Nonary Games

Warfare: Far Cry 4

Got lucky on a couple of them (GTA3 as Business, Battleship as RTS) and only missing 2: Pinball and Romance. Got an idea already for Romance; Hakuoki: Stories of the Shisengumi on PSNow. As far as the Pinball is concerned, I thought for sure I had one, but the Williams collection I have completed is only a 100%. Might have to get the Genesis collection on PS$ for that. (Annoyingly, the PS3 collection is not classified as Pinball even though it also has a Sonic Spinball trophy...)

Some of these tags are absolutely deranged-- Minecraft is a 4X game??? Yoku's Island Express isn't pinball??

I plan on playing Unpacking at some point, which I'll use for nonfiction, but the other 3 don't have any clear candidates. I may look into Creature in the Well for pinball, but only the Asia and Japan stacks have the tag; would the western stack still count (@Rebourne07)?

It's always a pleasure Rebourne07! This is a really cool idea, I'll take any excuse to branch out more in obtaining platinums! I'd love to take part in it, lemme see what I've got:

Honestly surprised Catan VR doesn't count as a Card & Board Game but counts for Quiz/Trivia lol. Don't have too many to fill out, I'll keep a tab on it as I continue work on multiple lists from the 2022 Platinum Difficulty Challenge!

Congratulations to @DoctorDrPepper on finishing the challenge before it even began lol

@Thedah yeah some of the weirdest I've seen is Minecraft as a fighting game and Shadow of the Colossus as a simulator. What exactly is SotC simulating?? 😂

@Abraniell Outlast 2 as erotic!? WTF?? haha

@Xylobe lol I thought this challenge would be exception-free since it's all determined by IGDB...but here you are on the second day finding an exception! Yeah, if you have the NA version of Creature in the Well you can count that as pinball since the other regions say its pinball. No idea why that happened.

Great lists everyone! It's cool to see the variety everyone has! Looks like this is gonna be the "go platinum a pinball game and an RTS game challenge" haha

Open world: No Man's Sky
Party: Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Pinball:
Platform: Tearaway
Point-and-click: Grim Fandango Remastered
Puzzle: Zero Time Dilemma

Quiz/Trivia:
Racing: Kandagawa Jet Girls
Real Time Strategy: Plants vs. Zombies
Role-playing: Persona 5
Romance: Doki Doki Literature Club!

I tried to be as accurate as possible, and I generally agree with all the genres and themes that I listed above. Dunno when I'll get to the last five as I'm not planning on playing any of the games for any of those themes at the moment.

If I can throw out a recommendation for pinball, check out Creature In The Well. It’s a pinball style top down puzzle dungeon hack and slash where your character is basically the paddles hitting energy balls to solve puzzle rooms. It’s great.

Edit: Ha ha. I just read this whole topic and saw everyone’s already talking about it. It’s a good game.
