Platinum Every Genre Challenge

If I can throw out a recommendation for pinball, check out Creature In The Well. It’s a pinball style top down puzzle dungeon hack and slash where your character is basically the paddles hitting energy balls to solve puzzle rooms. It’s great.

Edit: Ha ha. I just read this whole topic and saw everyone’s already talking about it. It’s a good game.

Kinda weird that Yoku's Island Express isn't in that category, but Creature in the Well is, isn't it?

If there's one thing I learned about Video Game genre's while performing this exercise its that the genre's are made up and what's actually in the game doesn't matter.

IGDB goes full who's line is it anyway with the stuff.  xD

Fun idea let down by the seeming semi-random nature of the IGDB categories as mentioned by some previous posters. I won't even post my list because it's just too random to really be interesting. All I was missing was MOBA (of course) and Pinball. I'm satisfied with Yoku's Island Express for the latter even if the IGDB isn't.

While on the subject, I don't think that I will ever finish the event, because I don't see me playing anything from the 4X Genre/Theme and I suck at Pinball..

For Business, I saw 2 Atelier games, so, that's an option... for RTS, I have New Little King's Story, so, maybe I should finely start playing it... and for Romance, I have Yu-No, so, that's also covered...

And I actually went ahead and tried to see how many Genres/Themes I could actually fill with UR games, and that came out as 29 games from my 63 UR platinums..

Nice! Dude, as close as you are you could totally finish the challenge. There are some relatively simple pinball games out there and Minecraft or Civilization VI count as 4x. Maybe make a list of a few games from each missing genre and see if you can overlap them with other goals or events you’re doing. Good luck :)

Minecraft really not my thing... Civilization maybe it's worth thinking about... If there are simple Pinball games, maybe it's worth for me to take a look and think (just hope that's not those games that they use just to sell trophies...)..

Ya, actually didn't thought about it, but maybe I can cross-complete games for this along other challenges!

I like to join.

My List: "Only" 5 categories are missing at the moment.

And whoever categorised some of the games must have been drunk. I mean Shiny from my list isn`t even a pinball game, it`s a (bad) platformer, but Yoku`s Island Express (a pinball metroidvania) isn`t labeld as pinball. And don`t get me started on the Romance Theme. I have a few platinums on my list with strong romantic themes, like Sakura Wars, World End Syndrom and Nurse Love Addiction but the only game that has been labled Romance is Legends of Talia: Arcadia.

4X:

Action: Sakura Wars

Adventure: Where the Water tastes like Wine

Arcade: Slipstream

Business:

Card & Boardgames: Knight`s Retreat

Comedy: Punchline

Drama: Kotodama

Educational:

Erotic: Bullet Girls Phantasia

Fantasy: Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth

Fighting: Crows:Burning Edge

Hack and Slash/Beat èm Up: One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4

Historical: Apotheon

Horror: School Girl/Zombie Hunter

Indie: Mundaun

Kids: Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Music: Songbird Symphony

Mystery: Lifeless Planet

Non-Fiction: 8 to Glory

Open World: Mad Max

Party: Nippon Marathon

Pinball: Shiny

Platform: Shantae and the Pirate´s Curse

Point-and-Click: The Pillars of th Earth

Puzzle: The Talos Principle

Quiz/Trivia:

Racing: Monster Energy Supercross 2

Real Time Strategy (RTS):

Role-playing (RPG): Is it wrong to try to pick up Girls in a Dungeon? Infinite Combate

Romance: Legends of Talia: Arcadia

Sandbox: Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Science Fiction: Nier: Automata

Shooter: Red Faction

Simulator: Autobahn Police Simulator 2

Sport: Handball 17

Stealth: Republique

Strategy: Narcos: Rise of the Cartels

Survival: Daymare 1998

Tactical: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Thriller: Get Even

Turn-Based Strategy (TBS): Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs

Visual Novel: World End Syndrome

Warfare: Arslan: The Warriors of Legend

Sup guys, wanted to throw a warning out there.

Pinball is the genre that the most people are missing, including me. So I tried out Pirates Pinball tonight and let me tell you...it is hard as hell. Don't be fooled by the higher average completion percentages of the Super Powerup Pinball games, they are very difficult if you're a pinball noob like me so beware. Sounds to me from reading this forum that the best one to go for if you just want to knock out that genre is Creature in the Well. Yeah it doesn't show as a Pinball game...but the JP and AS versions do and they are the same game so the NA version counts too even without the tag. Happy hunting guys.

I'd also point out, IGDB (which is where this site pulls it's Genre Tags from, I believe) actually has Pinball listed as a genre for Yoku's Island Express - but this site doesn't reflect it yet.

It might be worth asking the Game Information Team if that one can be re-scanned to update to the latest IGDB info?

@BlindMango - is that something that can be / is ever done?

Erotic: Town of Light

Wow. If someone wants to supply a list with the most absurd Genre assignments, that's a good candidate. That or Danganronpa AE for Erotic, Iron Sky for Historical, L. A. Noire for Sports, Persona 4 for Educational...

(I also observe that neither ToL nor D:AE are classified as Erotic on igdb.)
