Popular Post Platinum_Vice
This event has finished. It ran between 1 July 2022 to 15 July 2022. If you've stumbled across this puzzle now that it is officially over, you are still welcome to (of course) work your way through it. If you need hints or want to talk about the puzzle at all, just quote what you're stuck on and make a new comment. I will be following this thread indefinitely and put in such a massive effort to make this event that I'd still post hints for you even if you stumble onto this event many years in the future. Now that the event is officially over, you don't need to meet the joining criteria, just jump in wherever you like. You don't need to use spoiler bars anymore. Good luck! - Vice On the 1st of July 2022, a detective from the Missing Persons Unit at your local Police Department will post a request for your assistance in this thread. A young couple has been reported missing. Their apartment was searched by local police who found a computer displaying an active program. The program depicted a puzzle in the centre of the screen and a “1/9” in the top left corner. The puzzle seems to require a wide knowledge of the PlayStation gaming sphere and of trophy hunting. At least one of the missing persons is an avid gamer. Due to a failure to locate the couple using standard investigative techniques, the lead detective is currently seeking authorisation from his superiors to post the puzzles here in the hope that this community (YOU) will be able to help identify key leads to the location of the missing couple. How the event will work: You must register that you wish to join (more on that below). Subsequent puzzles will be posted once the prior puzzle has been solved. A puzzle is considered to be solved when the answer is posted and the solver receives what appears to be sufficient rep points to represent other participants reaching the same answer (or experiencing that glorious “aha!” moment upon reading the suggested answer). All 9 puzzles will be different. The difficulty may vary and a small degree of community shared effort may be required. No single person is likely to complete everything by themselves, but this is not necessarily a “group project" where you are constantly relying on others every time. This is an example of a puzzle that you can expect: Link each player to their home country, their favourite genre and when it is that they will join up for this event: Bianca was hesitant to join the event as she prefers to lurk the forum instead, so she was signed up as a participant for the third puzzle (which is okay!) The Australian joined this event as soon as he could but he didn’t see the event until Puzzle 5 (which is also okay!) The player who lives and breathes puzzle games signed up for this event on Day 1. It wasn’t Charlie. The Australian will proudly tell you that he is the biggest fan of Adventure games in the southern hemisphere. The Japanese player missed the first puzzle. How to join: Step 1: Pay the following fee: Commit an unrepayed act of generosity. This could be something as simple as completing some work for a colleague, helping an old lady cross the street, letting someone go first at the bar, or buying a coffee for someone who won’t return the favour. Maybe you bought your mother some flowers or gave a co-worker a lift. If the person returns the favour in any way, then the net positivity is neutralised and you should try something else to meet the entry criteria. If you are going to donate to charity or buy something for someone else then I’d request that you at least give to a minimum value of a cup of coffee. Step 2: Explain how you paid your entry fee in a post on this thread (no proof needed – honour system only ?) and then I’ll add you to the participants list. You there, lurker! Get involved! This is going to be fun. You don’t have to know me or have much experience on this site. The more people that get involved = a greater chance of us solving this case. There is no closing date to joining although the event is only expected to last about three weeks starting from 1 July 2022. I’ll put together a Community Event Badge to all participants at the end of the event. I strongly recommend that participants Follow this thread. If you’re worried about cluttered notifications - fear not, I can't see this event lasting as long as the beginning of August. Participants: Spoiler @DrBloodmoney @MAUSZX @DonFrancesco @Im2Fast_4U @DoctorDrPepper @YaManSmevz @rjkclarke @MattbluePT @HusKy @GuitaristZag @Malachen @AugustUnder @APeskyAxolotl @Taruta13 @Sgznf A final word: Please use Spoiler tags as often as you can so that everyone else can freely browse reactions to the development of the event or be able to see what questions others are asking. Consider something like this: Can someone give me another hint/the answer for 9 Across? Here's the answer to 9 Across: Spoiler It's Sora, bro. Keep up the effort, muh gee. ✊ Or: I think I have the password for Puzzle 1! Spoiler It's Colonel Radec on Mother Base with the Buster Sword! ? Let's get to it! Direct links: - Puzzle 1 - Puzzle 2 - Puzzle 3 - Puzzle 4 - Puzzle 5 - Puzzle 6 - Puzzle 7 - Puzzle 8 - Puzzle 9 - Final post/resolution (no spoiler tags required from this point onwards). I stooped down for my low-shelf items like a chump! ? Also, this seems awesome - sign me up! MAUSZX
Hi, I am interested in participating. I am in. As for the deed I did. I bought candy from some lady in the street that needs money and I gave the candy to my coworkers. (don't worry, those candies are safe and not poisoned or anything like that). As for the Spoiler tag.... how do you spoiler tag? lol I never have attempted to do that, and now that I am looking in I can't find how to do it. Btw I solved the puzzle of the example. DonFrancesco
Oh wow, this seems really interesting and fun! I'd love to join too, and considering my good deed... I guess it might count that I helped the old lady who lives two floors above me carry her groceries up to her apartment (even though she is super cranky and always looks like she doesn't even want the help, but then she kinda ends up taking it anyway) just this morning? And for the puzzle solution, if I can already post that although I'm not officially a participant yet: Spoiler Charlie - Puzzle 5 - Adventure Games - Australian Bianca - Puzzle 3 - RPGs - Japanese Aaron - Puzzle 1 - Puzzle Games - German Edited July 1, 2022 by DonFrancesco Edited to try and repair the broken spoiler tags
Im2Fast_4U
I am very intrigued by this event, and I would like to join! As for an act of kindness, I just bought some candy bars while out at a bar shooting pool. The candy bars were for a local fundraiser and I paid twice the purchase price to help them out. I will edit this post in a bit when I think I have a solution to the logic puzzle! Edit: My solution to the logic puzzle: Spoiler Aaron is a German, puzzle game loving forum member who joined the event at puzzle 1 Bianca is a Japanese, RPG loving forum member who joined the event at puzzle 3 Charlie is an Aussie, adventure game loving forum member who joined the event at puzzle 5 Edited June 21, 2022 by Im2Fast_4U Added found solution to practice puzzle

DoctorDrPepper
I'll join up. I love puzzles and I love trophies. As far as an act of kindness I did let someone with a few items go in front of me at the grocery store yesterday because they looked like they were in a hurry. They seemed very thankful so I felt good about that.

Oh shit, my bad? Actually I do have something - I was next in line at a convenience store when a super grumpy, angry old dude couldn't figure out how to input something at a credit card terminal and started yelling at the girl behind the counter. I was like "excuse me sir, I can do that for you real quick," acting like I wanted to help him but really I just wanted to get him to stop hollering at her. You could tell she wasn't sure what to do and was getting uncomfortable?
Popular Post rjkclarke
Count me in with this too... .... I didn't leave my house all too much last week, so I didn't really feel comfortable pulling an unrepayed act of generosity out of nowhere... but I think this should count, I spent a good chunk of Saturday cleaning up my Great Uncles house with my Mum and my Grandad, because they shouldn't be having to do it at their age, especially as my Grandad is 90. Essentially his brothers A-Hole landlord was complaining about the state of the house. Apparently 86 year old people with mobility issues are supposed to reach up unreasonably high and clear cobwebs and mow the lawn? If people tell you there isn't a class system in the UK, someone should remind that tosser landlord that there isn't supposed to be one. Popular Post Platinum_Vice
Puzzle 1 of 9 Good morning PSNP Community. My name is Vice and I am the lead detective on a Missing Persons case. The case is four days old. In my experience, 90% of Missing Persons cases are solved in two days, and the other 10% become much harder to solve with every passing hour. Four days ago, Your Local Police Department were called out to a welfare check by Robert Smith, the father of Jane Smith. Jane hasn’t answered any messages or calls from Robert for three days which is reported to be extremely unusual. Robert was so concerned by this that he visited Jane’s apartment and let himself in with his copy of a spare key. Neither Jane Smith (22 years old) nor her boyfriend Kevin Lockwood (23 years old) were home. Jane’s phone and purse were still in the apartment. Kevin’s phone was left behind but his wallet, keys and car were gone. A laptop on Jane's side of the bed was still on (plugged in to the charger) and it displayed a puzzle with text that Robert found very disturbing. When officers from Your Local Police Department attended the apartment, they called the Missing Persons Unit, and that’s where I became involved. There’s a lot involved in this investigation and I can’t do it all, nor are there currently any additional resources at Your Local Police Department for me to call upon. The computer’s puzzle program appears to me to be a lead worth following. The puzzle appears to require significant knowledge of the video gaming industry and specifically mentions this forum, so I’m calling on your assistance as a community if you can grant it. Please help me. Below is a copy of the puzzle and the accompanying text. If you don’t have a printer, I have uploaded the crossword to https://crosshare.org/crosswords/WDhP123heCDmlroEKxR3/puzzle-1-of-9 so that you could complete it on a PC or phone; however, please refer back to this page when you’ve finished to help figure out the password! Good luck! - Vice ?️ 1/9 Jane, I'm going to do something absolutely insane. I’m afraid that you won’t like it. Since you came into my life, you’ve bent and twisted me out of shape… away from normality… and I’ve become something so much more... well... DrBloodmoney
@Platinum_Vice - This event is awesome by the way! I believe I have the answer... ...however, I think there is an error in the puzzle.... ....Or perhaps this is a devious new future clue? DonFrancesco
Oooh, nice, the event has started! Notwithstanding the fact that I thought "badasses" was meant to be the actual solution to 22 down, and that I can't for the life of me find the correct one, now that "badasses" is anchored into my brain, I still have a general solution to the whole puzzle. Hopefully the spoiler tags work this time: Spoiler The Witness Which is a great game, by the way, I enjoyed every second of it when I played it myself, including the special challenge at the end, even though that nearly drove me nuts.
