Assassin's Creed Liberation and other Ubisoft games may be unplayable after 1st September on Steam

Assassin's Creed Liberation, Silent Hunter 5, Space Junkies, and a few other Ubisoft titles may become unplayable (even if you've already purchased them) after 1st September 2022 according to their Steam pages (source: https://www.fanbyte.com/news/ubisoft-delists-assassins-creed-liberation-from-steam-may-become-unplayable/ - original source appears to be a Reddit post, as far as I could find anyway)

All these games are already delisted, but looking at the Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD page on steam, there is a notice that states:

Please note this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022

It's not currently confirmed whether this means these games will be unplayable (or unable to be re-downloaded) for those that have already purchased them, but considering the games are no longer for sale and the notice states they will "not be accessible" following the September date, it's a little disconcerting to say the least.

With Sony also set to remove access to paid movies from consumers next month, this could set a very worrisome precedent on digital ownership.

I don't believe this affects the PlayStation versions of AC Liberation, only the Steam release, but thought it worth bringing this to as many people's attention as possible.

Update:

Ubisoft have since confirmed that current owners will still be able to access, play and redownload these titles. Their full statement is as follows:

As stated in our support article, only DLCs and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning. Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them. Our teams are working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts and are also assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022. It has always been our intention to do everything in our power to allow those legacy titles to remain available in the best possible conditions for players, and this is what we are working towards.

That's pretty low, but not surprising because it sounds like the sort of BS today's Ubisoft would pull. Delisting is bad enough, but yanking it from your library? Come on. You should have a non-expiring licence to use what you pay for.

One more reason to hate Ubisoft. They were good in the PS2 and early PS3 era.
