Server Shutdown Announced 9th November 2022

The online for certain older EA games only works when you accept a specific EULA, otherwise the games either lockup your PS3 or ban you from the servers until it has been accepted. Mercs 2 is the most infamous example of needing a specific EULA but it's getting increasingly hard to find a copy of the small number of games which which have the requisite EULA on the disc so you can accept it and fix the problem :(. I have a stickied thread on .org in the Mercs 2 forum that explains all of this and how to remedy several other Mercs 2 specific problems.

The servers for this and several other games are so messed up that LAN mode is your only chance of playing with others but even that isn't a guaranteed solution :(.

I have a bunch of the older NHL/FIFA games that my brothers bought years ago, would any of those work?

Also when you say "playing in LAN," that doesn't mean online worldwide though right? Like when I say online, I mean against other people around the world! Isn't LAN only for your immediate household, meaning I would need 2 PS3s and 2 copies of the game? If it's only available playing in a local setting, I have no chance to get this done :(

1: See here, if it's not on the list, it doesn't work: https://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/topic/72923-listen-up-people-the-servers-are-still-up-and-always-have-been-not-a-boosting-thread/

2: Unless you use Xlink Kai on your computer to help spoof a server connection to a friend in another area, LAN does mean needing 2 Consoles in the same building.

apparently there are solutions in case money trophies glitch

https://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/topic/97792-tattooed-millionaire-fix-yes-it-works/

Can anyone confirm they work (on the German version, I just bought 2 copies so I would like to know haha)? I'm getting kinda paranoid about this game haha

Also is there a quick way to farm money to pop the trophies without progressing in the story too much? I would like to pop them asap so I won't be nervous the whole time while playing the story lol

I just remembered that and whilst I never had to use it myself, I have it on good authority it does work but there's another messier method if it doesn't for some reason :)https://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/topic/126389-tattooed-millionaire-how-to-get-after-glitch/

Also, you have to finish a fair bit of the story if I remember right, before the best money making exploit becomes available i.e. a specific helicopter challenge that can be finished in seconds and earns you a fortune in just a few hours (I believe a video of this was posted a few posts back).

Good luck to everyone trying this, I had huge difficulties back in the day. I believe I used a copy of Battlefield Bad Company.

There is a lot of time available, very nice to let us players know so far in advance, it is entirely possible to get a copy of an old game and then hopefully complete these trophies.

I need to take the opportunity to finish platinum too, there are still a few single player trophies left.

It's important to note which trophies specifically require connection, like the 1 billion dollar trophy (not sure).

Does anyone know what exactly the trophies affected are? Campaign trophies are safe, aren't they?

thanks for confirming, did you by any chance use the german version for the solution? I'm not sure if it really matters, but might be hard for me to find a normal version in case it doesn't work with the german version.

Well since there is a working solution playing the story won't be too stressful xD

No, my copy is from the UK.

There are 6 online trophies: 2 for the leaderboards and 4 for the co-op mode:

Tattooed Millionaire - Can glitch

Billion Dollar Babies - Can glitch

Partners in Crime

Wheels of Steel

Damage Inc. - Ultra buggy

Nothin' but a Good Time - Also very buggy

Also note the Xbox 360 version has 1 additional online Achievement that was left out of the PS3 release for some reason.

German version is censored and easier(you don't need to escort HVT to helicopter) and it does NOT work with other versions it even has seperate save file. 1f605.png

@timpurnat believe you are safe since you will autoboost so no problem ?

yeah that's good to hear, now I just need someone to confirm if the solution for money trophies works on the german version (in case they glitch on me). Would be nice to know, just in case :)

I'm hesitant to start this especially with all the other stuff shutting down and this one being so buggy... The guide says 30 hours for the whole game and 5/10 difficulty so doesn't seem too bad especially with the HVT/German workaround, but still kind of hesitant. Looking forward to hearing people's take on this once they finish it up to see if it's not as bad as it seems

Is there a way to boot up the game and check if I can connect without popping any trophies?

I just tried connecting my 2 dummy accounts and that Partners in Crime trophy popped as soon as one account joined the other's game. So it should be safe to say that the coop trophies won't pop if you can't connect.

Crap. I have this game and I would love to complete it just for shits and giggles. I already did everything and got the money trophies a long time ago. Unfortunately, I've never been able to connect with anyone for a co-op game. Never. And I have tried with almost a dozen different people from different parts of the world, followed all guides and WiFI router techniques and strategies you can think of with no luck. I can never see anyone else online in this game.

The only thing I haven't tried is the LAN method with myself. I actually own a second PS3, all I need is a second copy of the game. Shoot, I will see if I can get it before November. >.<

I got the co op online trophies for this game in a few sessions between March and May this year, so maybe about 5 hours in total. Nothin but a good time is easy, there's a side mission where you're in a speedboat and have to blow up mines, just do that a couple of times and it will pop.

Damage Inc can take a few tries, it's the only buggy trophy, but it's not hard, just keep using airstrikes til it pops.

It doesn't need LAN, I'm in the UK and did it with someone from a boosting session on this site from Italy.

I didn't need to put my router into bridge mode or anything, it just needed spamming invites until we spawned into the game. I think it helps if the person you're playing with is at the same place in the story, otherwise the game struggles because it can't load you into parts of the game map you haven't unlocked yet.

I might have been lucky in that I played it a bit back in the day, so my online pass was remembered on my account somehow, as when playing this year it's been on a different PS3 with a different copy of the game, just my account is the only thing the same as when I originally played. The game didn't ask me for an online pass or anything when I played this year - bearing in mind this is after a gap of 11 years.

This game was released years before the bad idea that was Online Passes was invented. All you have to watch out for is the EULA issue but it sounds like you played a compatible game prior to this one so Mercs 2 remembered it :).

I think this is the most annoying part about starting this game. I really hate the idea of buying another game just to accept a EULA agreement. The things we do for trophies ?

Does anyone know an easy way to get into nat 1? I see the option on my router settings to set it to bridge mode, but I am scared that I won't be able to "de-bridge" it later.

To achieve NAT1 you need to connect your PS3 directly to the internet, in your PS3's network settings you need to set up a PPPoE connection, bypassing your router. Check your ISP's setup manual or whatever you received when you signed the contract. If your ISP doesn't provide PPPoE credentials or doesn't allow PPPoE connections you're most likely out of luck, but try googling "<your ISP> PPPoE". However, sometimes NAT1 isn't really necessary and setting your PS3 as an exposed host in your router might work already. "Exposed host" is also often referred to as "DMZ" which is just wrong wording because an actual DMZ would be counterproductive, but because of the common confusion this keyword might help when googling for tutorials for your router.

Exposed host just means that there is no firewall or anything that blocks the connection between your host (i.e. your PS3) and a server or another player, or better said: any connection from outside of your network. From a technical perspective this is a potential security risk but so is NAT1. Just make sure to not share your IP address with anyone when it's active and to deactivate it afterwards. But as said it might work, for example when trying to connect to another player for Far Cry 3's coop it only started working when my PS3 was an exposed host.

Damned if I know, the PS3 I've been using recently was bought secondhand this year and had been reformatted. I've never played Battlefield or The Orange Box. I've no idea what the EULA agreement links to, but I assume it must be my PSN account. I didn't need to do anything like the bridge mode and PPOE stuff that others have mentioned (which is good, because that would have been way above my IT skillset!).
