Popular Post Sailar91
The new RRPs below are effective immediately unless otherwise noted: Europe PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – €549.99 PS5 Digital Edition – €449.99 UK PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – £479.99 PS5 Digital Edition – £389.99 Japan (effective Sept. 15, 2022) PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – ¥60,478 yen (including tax) PS5 Digital Edition – ¥49,478 yen (including tax) China PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – ¥4,299 yuan PS5 Digital Edition – ¥3,499 yuan Australia PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – AUD $799.95 PS5 Digital Edition – AUD $649.95 Mexico PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – MXN $14,999 PS5 Digital Edition – MXN $12,499 Canada PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – CAD $649.99 PS5 Digital Edition – CAD $519.99 While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come. Source: https://blog.playstation.com/2022/08/25/ps5-price-to-increase-in-select-markets-due-to-global-economic-environment-including-high-inflation-rates/ I think this is absurd, usually after 2 years you expect to see a price drop not an increase Edited August 25, 2022 by Sailar91
MidnightDragon
Will it hurt sales? Remains to be seen, but I noticed that the US was not one of the ones who got hit by it.
Empovyle
Wow, this is nuts. Now if you can even manage to find a console you'll have to pay nearly as much as a new game on top of the original price. It almost feels like they're rewarding the early birds and scalpers with this decision. I hope this actually helps their supply problem like they claim it will.
Popular Post HusKy
Quote this price increase is a necessity Quote There will be no price increase in the United States. Is there no inflation in the US or why is the price increase needed only for some markets? Explain yourself Jimmy.
Popular Post JediKnight_327
I never buy the first model of a console, especially at RRP but I bought the PS5 at retail for £450, and I cant say its been worth it. I've only played 2 games which I couldnt have played on the PS4 and those are ratchet and clank and Astros play room. Fun and cute games, but not worth upgrading for so you can play them immediately. I wouldnt recommend it at £450 let alone £480. Its worth waiting because even the games that are yet to come out will still be cross-gen games. And whatever you do, dont go digital only, at some point they'll make the same excuse to charge £79.99 for games instead of £69.99.
Popular Post BrandedBerserk
It's an understandable move but they gotta put the damn thing in stores first so that people can actually buy one lmao.
Popular Post El Duderino
Another reason to ignore the system. There are far cheaper options to play games.

Popular Post dmland12
US dollar has been strong against the yen (and euro) lately. Probably the reason we got off the hook here.
D-E-U-S-X
Was to be expected. Console sales have mostly been a loss for the vendors and the cost of manufacture now seems very high. A 10% surcharge is acceptable. Microsoft won't do anything like that because they have always subsidized consoles, games, developer studios and the Game Pass with their infinite cash reserves.

MD_91
Still not bothered about getting a PS5 for myself anytime soon but was planning to buy one as a present for someone in the next month so this is annoying, saw the rumour a couple weeks ago about the price increase but wasn't sure they'd actually do it Edited August 25, 2022 by MD_91
grifteskymfning
Went to two retailers in Sweden today, and they haven't updated their in-store prices yet. Better hurry to buy another.
majob
If Sony was worried about Microsoft taking market share before then they're going to be really worried pretty soon when this gift basically falls into their lap.
Popular Post Infernopommes
Please have more compassion for Sony, they have to get more money to be able to pay out the 5 billion they are sued for.
Popular Post Carol
Now that I have a steady job, I have been spending a lot of money on Apple products, because I love Apple, but I still don’t feel tempted to buy a PS5. Here, they are always sold in bundles, costing more 700€ and I don’t think the PS5 it’s worth that much money, especially considering that it barely has exclusives. Now, it will be even more expensive. Maybe by the end of 2023, it will start to make sense upgrading. For now, my PS4 works fine.

I think its worth it alone to just play ps4 games on. Playing sleeping dogs on my ps4 at minute and the console as not aged well. My ps3 runs better

Lava_Yuki
I live in the UK and got mine a few months ago, thank goodness. But this is odd considering tech usually depreciates like cars do, even with inflation and not the other way around. That's an odd move by Sony, but oh well. Because of how difficult it is to buy and how desperate people are for it and would probably pay anything for it, Sony saw this an a profit making opportunity and increased the prices.
Z1MZUM
Lol, $799. Sorry to be a negative nelly but I see this gen as a fail. I also believe many people have built a PC in the chip shortage drama. For some it's wonderful, for others it's lacking controller diversity. I have one single friend who managed to buy one, they sold it a week ago and bought a cat with the money. They also hooked their ps4 (Not a Pro) back up and are happy with that. I'm also happy with that as we are back playing competitive games online. This console has felt locked and limited, it's been 2 and a half f'n years Edited August 25, 2022 by Z1MZUM

Same as most of my friends. It's a great machine. I obviously did not sold it, neither my friends. I plan to buy a cat this year, but I couldn't imagine playing anything on PS4, especially on the base model.
