I am a huge The Long Dark fan, however, the platinum trophy in this game is overkill in my opinion. I have played long enough to somewhat master its mechanics, but I've noticed despite the platinum being relatively easy, it's still very rare. I'm thinking it's because of the two daunting trophies, Faithful Cartographer and The Will to Live. I come here to change that!

 

BEFORE YOU START THE GAME

 

First and foremost, the trophies in this game are rather bad. If you just started the game you should play through the story - Wintermute on the easiest difficulty, go through it and collect all the trophies, none are hard just a bit boring due to backtracking and the nature of the gameplay, but it will teach you all the mechanics that you will need, as well as some of the maps that you will be playing on in the Survival mode. After that, you might as well start your journey toward the big trophies. Note that I won't be explaining every single mechanic of the game, it's not a trophy guide and I don't have time for that. 

 

The main focus here will be on surviving 500 days and mapping every region in the game. You can start by playing on Pilgrim, or Custom Difficulty which you can tweak to make the game even easier. In the options, you can change the animal respawns, range of detection, weather, disabled illness and injuries, etc. It will make it very boring and forgiving, but when trophies are in the play, every trick is useful. That being said, this game has permadeath so I strongly advise backing up your save files every 10 or so days, or before doing something very risky/important. Do note that the game does save only when you do some specific actions, so you might abuse that to your advantage. The game saves on its own when:

- you enter a new location with a loading screen (so when you enter your base and let's say, cook or read for 10h, and then fix all the clothes, make sure to exit and reenter your base to properly save your game),
- when your status changes - you get injured or sick, AFTER your struggle with an animal (qte) has ended, etc. So for example, if you mess up a fight with a bear and it attacks you, you can quit the game while QTE is happening, and it will bring you back before the event has happened. But as you will be playing on Pilgrim/Custom Very Easy mode, this can only happen if you attack a predatory animal and fail to kill it before it reaches you and starts mauling animation (qte). 

- whenever you go to sleep the game will save. If you carry a bedroll with you all the time, this can work as a manual save to take advantage of.

 

FIRST 50 DAYS

 

I will try to keep it simple and oriented as a "walkthrough" but feel free to experiment on your own. When you start, you are given the option to choose the sex of your character (doesn't affect anything) and the location where you will spawn. USE AND DOWNLOAD MAPS FROM THE LONG DARK WIKI/provided below! I highly recommend starting in the Mystery Lake region, as it has plenty of resources you will need at the start of your run, as well as (in my opinion) it allows for a well-planned route between northern regions. From the start, you will be aiming toward not killing anything for the first 25 days (Pacifist), as well as not using any guns for the first 50 days (Silent Hunter). Pacifist trophy means you cannot kill anything from the moment you start your game until the trophy pops, you can only gain your calories from harvesting dear carcass (or other animals if you get lucky), harvesting plants (teas cooked from the wild plants will provide some calories as well as act as a specific medicine) and from exploring the world for canned/manmade foods. If you start in the ML you should have more than enough food once you explore every location, as well as if you find the Prepper Bunker but there can only be one spawn on a map that supports bunkers (not all regions can have bunkers), out of several possible locations that will be marked on maps from the wiki. Note that if for some reason, you will get attacked by an animal and QTE will happen, you might hurt the animal and make it bleed. This will make it run away and possibly bleed out, dying somewhere in the region, THIS DOES NOT VOID THE PACIFIST TROPHY. However, chances of that happening on Pilgrim are slim to none. Focus on collecting good clothes, gear such as lamps and fuel, axes, knives, etc. If you happen to find a gun, that is a Rifle, a Revolver, or a Flare gun, don't ever use it as it will void the Silent Hunter trophy. You cannot fire any firearms for the first 50 days, but you can use and kill animals with a bow. So, after the Pacifist trophy pops, from day 25 till 50, you can safely hunt with a bow if you have one already. If you've found Maple and Birch saplings, as well as have some cured guts from carcasses, you may go on a trip to Forlong Muskeg (careful with the lakes) which has the nearest Forge (only three in the game, one at The Riken in Desolation Point, one at Old Spence Family Homestead in Forlorn Muskeg, and one in the Maintenance Yard in Broken Railroad. You will need a Hammer to make anything but on Pilgrim they should spawn near the Forge, as well as lots of fuel to keep above 150C for the duration of forging. The Forging mechanic is based on the temperature. Every piece of fuel for the furnace will produce a specific amount of temperature, keep in mind though, that the furnace will not lose its temperature after you reach it. In order to start forging, as stated earlier, you need to hit 150C. There are two ways to do this, depending on the amount of coal you can find. The first time you visit a forge, there will be enough coal and other fuel to make a first batch of forging. The next one though will require a bit of preparation. Every piece of coal gives 20C to the fire, so you will need 8x Coal to start forging pretty much from the start. BUT! If you can bring enough wood/sticks to the Forge, keep the fire going and add fuel as you go, you can enable Forging with just 4 pieces of coal. This means that if you can find 8 pieces of coal in a Cave or in a Mine (they respawn every 10 days or so), you can make two batches of forging with the same amount of coal. It's not ideal though, as you will need a lot of sticks/wood in order to reach 70C without any coal, and this will also take a day or even two until the fire burns long enough to reach said temperature. If you want/need to do some other things like fix clothes or read, and have enough wood and food to stay at a forge for extra hours, do it. If you just need to forge essentials and GTFO, just take 8x Coal instead. I'd say, if you can spare to carry the weight, you should make at least 30/40 arrowheads, and if you have enough materials, make a knife and a hatchet for the Desolation Point trophy. Arrowheads are the hardest part of arrows to obtain, but once you have them, you can harvest broken arrows to get the arrowhead and some feathers back. That means if you are careful with firing your arrows, you won't have to go back to the Forge anytime soon (provided you have enough Birch saplings for the arrows themselves). Harvested Arrowheads also don't decay/get worse in time, so if you recover every broken arrow, you can potentially never go back to the forge again. Feathers aren't a big issue, just remember to look for every carcass that has birds flying above them to find some feathers. Bows themselves can be found in the world, but they don't have the best durability, so after using one for a few hunting trips you may need to make a new one. Having a stockpile of Cured Maple Saplings is a must. After surviving 50 days and getting the two trophies as well as some others, you should be fully done with at least the Mystery Lake and Forlong Muskeg regions, if you've been mapping them along the way. If not, you can always do that later. Some other trophies you may unlock along the way are:

 

- Deep Forest

Keep a campfire burning for 3 days. 

For this one, you will need enough fuel for 72h after the campfire is lit. Do note that only a campfire you create counts, I've had plenty of stoves lit for 100h+ and the achievement didn't pop.

 

- Penitent Scholar

Complete all Research books.

You need to fully read every type of skill book found in the game. There will be a book tied to every skill in the game, and once you read all of them the trophy will pop. You don't need to read multiple books, one per skill is enough. Do note that after having a skill completely researched, you can't read that specific skill book anymore. More on Skills and how to level them up later on.

 

- Resolute Outfitter

Fill all clothing slots with 100% condition gear.

Simple as that. You need to have every piece of clothes in 100% condition. You will need to find Wool Ear Wrap and find or make a Moose Hide Satchel though. 

 

- Natural Healer

Heal yourself using all types of natural medicines (single game). as well as 

- Happy Harvester

Harvest 25 of each kind of plant (single game). There are four types of natural medicines: rose hip, old man's beard lichens, reishi mushrooms, and birch (not the one you have to cut down, the one found on the ground as a little piece of bark). All of them heal in a different way, but you will need to heal once with all of them for the trophy to pop. Medicine made from plants will never spoil! Do note that you don't need to collect Birch Bark 25 times for the trophy, just the other three.

 

- It was THIS Big!

Catch a fish weighing over 5kg (11 lbs).

You only need to fish long enough until you get lucky, you can do this trophy without ever leaving ML region, but there are other places with Ice Fishing Huts as well. 

 

- Living Off the Land

Survive 25 consecutive full days only consuming calories harvested from wild plants and animals (single game).

As mentioned earlier, each tea made from plants grants hydration as well as calories. You will find plenty of carcasses for meat as well. The best time to go for this trophy is with your first bear/moose kill, as they will give you around 40kg of meat which is more than enough to survive 25 days without losing Well Fed. 

 

- Wrapped in Furs

Sleep in a Bearskin Bedroll while wearing a Wolfskin Coat, Deerskin Boots, and Rabbitskin Mittens.

This trophy may not come within the first 50 days or so, as you will need to kill and harvest two bears to make a Bearskin Bedroll, but other clothing items can be easily done as soon as you get no-kill trophies. 

 

- Stone-Age Sniper

Stun a rabbit with a rock from over 25 meters (80 feet) away.

This might be difficult at first, but there's a way to get it done. You just need a bedroll, a decent amount of rocks, and a place with lots of rabbits. Take a nap to save the game, go somewhere away from the rabbits, and start throwing them rocks. If you don't get it done, just exit and start again. 

 

I have skipped some easy trophies like surviving 10 days without starving, being outside during an entire night, etc, as these are rather self-explanatory.

 

 

TIPS AND TRICKS

 

Now I will write down some general tips that you will find useful in the game. They are in no particular order, just treat them as a Wikipedia of knowledge you will find useful as you play the game.

 

- You need charcoal to map the location down, you should always check a found campfire/stove if it has some charcoal, but you can easily get it every time you make a fire on your own. The more fuel you add, the more charcoal you will have. After cooking meat and fish from a few animals I had more than 40 charcoal but keep in mind it is quite heavy inventory-wise. Note that you don't need to map EVERY SINGLE THING in the game. When you go to your Journal - Collections - Surveyed Locations, you can press FORCE REVEAL. This will show you the list of every place you need to survey with charcoal for the Faithful Cartographer trophy. I'd print down the maps on paper, and just mark these areas with a pen or something, you can always mark them off as you survey them to not get confused.

- If you're fishing (only possible on the lakes with fishing huts), try to keep fishing for only an hour at a time, this seems to be the best way to manage the time and your status. Cooking fish also gives you some lantern fuel (don't ask why).

- If you're harvesting an animal, as you're on Pilgrim, don't worry about the smell of meat, just harvest everything and go to your base. You should keep harvesting the meat in small quantities, as you will gain Harvesting skills after every harvest regardless of the amount of meat. So if you have a wolf or a deer killed, harvest 2kg of meat, and do it until you're fully done. This will give you more experience in harvesting, as well as you'll be able to cancel harvesting easier in case of a snowstorm. If you harvest a rabbit/deer/wolf, you shouldn't need a fireplace, but with larger animals (bear, moose) make a fireplace next to the carcass so that you won't freeze when harvesting. That being said, if you find a moose, kill it asap as you can make a bag from its hide that gives you +5kg of carrying weight. Also keeping your calories above zero for 3 days in a row grants you "Well Feed" bonus, for another +5. You can also find a Technical Backpack +5 kg in Gold Mind in the Ash Canyon region (only there), but you won't go there for a while, making 45KG max carry weight in the game.

- Managing your time is also a good skill to master, if you boil 0.5l of water, you can skip time for an hour (reading, fixing, crafting, sleeping, etc) and get the water with a few minutes to spare before it boils out. 2l (only possible with a pot) takes 2h, most of the meat and fish (if weight above 1kg) also take an hour to cook, but smaller quantities can take less time, so maybe craft some bandages or prepare plants in the meantime. The general rule is to always find something to do instead of simply "waiting" and wasting time. 

- If you make a fire, you can make torches out of it, one torch will decrease the time of the firepit by approx. 10 mins. You can make a torch, put it down, and do it as many times as you want to, then bring one lit torch and use it to chain your fire across the location (provided the wind won't snuff it away). If you throw a lit torch on the ground, you can light another torch with it, making it possible to bring fire with you even across an entire region. Use this tactic to safely cook as well. If you have 2l of water, or some meat to cook, but you worry it will boil out or burn when you sleep/do something else, make torches to leave the exact amount of fuel in the pit you need. You can use lit torches and flares to start up a fire in case you don't have any matches. Matches are the most valuable resource as without them you can't cook or heat up, so if you're low on them, lit a torch and use said torch to start a fire. This way you won't waste a precious match after every failed attempt. Always carrying a book (not a skill book) makes it easier to light a fire as well (higher chances). 

- Your "health" in the game is your big Condition Bar, but you also have 4 different Status bars. Warmth (you freeze, you die), Fatigue (the more you sprint or climb the faster it will drain), Thirst (water duh), and Hunger (calories). Once a status hits zero and turns red, you will start to lose your main Condition bar. While you should keep calories above zero to maintain "Well Fed", don't be afraid to lose some condition if you must, think of it as a resource to use and regain. Warmth and Thirst will drain your Condition the fastest, but Hunger and Fatigue can be red for several hours before they become a problem. To regenerate your Condition, you need to have the other 4 Status bars white (not drained) and sleep, or use Stim Packs (instant 15% back) or drink Birch Tea (5%). Coffee grants you extra Fatigue status, making it possible to stay awake for days with enough stock of Coffee, and Herbal Tea makes regaining Fatigue faster (less sleep needed to recover it). Cooked food and teas will give you calories as well as increase your warmth. One tip for a long journey in cold weather, if you have some already made teas/coffee, place them around the fire pit (no need to actually cook them) and they will warm up from COLD to HOT, giving you some extra Warmth in your journey. In regards to Warmth, if you are outside in a blizzard/snow storm, your clothes will soak wet. If this gets to 100%, they will become frozen. This will make your clothes grant you less warmth, so you will need to use a fireplace and either be near it with clothes on or drop the clothes on the floor near the fire to bring them back to their prime. Fixing your clothes is also a must in the long run, if you run out of cloth or dried skin to fix clothes, break worthless clothes to get some. Keep in mind though, that cloth as a resource is also finite, so if you decide to use mostly cloth-based clothes, it is possible that in the end game (day 300+), you will be forced to fully switch to animal-made clothes such as Deer Pants, Wolf Coats etc, simply because you won't find any cloth to repair your clothes anywhere in your vicinity. 

- Managing your carry weight is probably the most important factor of the game you need to master. If you carry more than you can, you will have a big chance to twist an ankle (unless you disable it in Custom Difficulty - insert evil laugh here) if you sprint or walk across rough terrain, but if you know you will walk down a flat road to your safehouse, and you've found some good loot/lots of food, etc, don't be afraid to go a bit slower, it won't kill you. If you have a prybar, you can use it to break the ice in fishing huts (the best option as using other tools will degrade them, the prybar won't for some reason), as well as allow you to loot locked car trunks, some locations (Milton Gas Station), and locked lockers. But, if you go out to find fuel or hunt, and you've looted all cars/lockers, maybe don't bring the prybar to save some weight. The same thing goes for firearms and other tools. On Pilgrim, you won't need weapons unless to hunt for food, so if you don't go out hunting, don't bring any weapons. I'd always carry a bedroll and a hatchet though, as you will never know if you need an emergency nap (you can sleep in cars without a bedroll as well as you may find some leaves and grass on the floor in caves where you also can sleep), and you can use a hatchet to break down furniture/wood for fuel as well as for harvesting carcasses for meat. You can also use a hacksaw for this, but a hacksaw is much rarer and you can use it to break down metal objects needed for metal scraps, meaning it's best to use a hacksaw only for metal objects (hammer works too but it's heavy so best leave it near Forge). Always carry enough wood to make 2 fires in case you need them (wood branches and sticks are somewhat renewable as after a storm they may "respawn" i.e the wind broke them down and they fell off), food to avoid starving for 3 days, and water for at least one day. You can get water rather easily in the game so don't carry too much of it.

- One final note about hunting. While Pilgrim is easy as the animals won't attack you, it makes it much harder to hunt for food. While deer and rabbits are slow and plentiful so you should always be able to land a headshot with a bow/rifle, wolfs and bears get scared very easily and from a long distance. The best way to hunt them is to crouch all the way up to the animal you want to kill with a gun or a bow, which is hard to use and even to obtain at first, but with time you will master it. A rifle is good but very heavy, Revolver is also good but weak so even a headshot might not be enough to kill an animal, best used to kill a charging wolf or rabbits, with plenty of ammo and quite light to carry. Distress pistol is a great weapon to kill charging bears, a headshot will kill one instantly, but it's rare to find. Rocks can be used to kill rabbits, and distract/lure predators if thrown in their vicinity, you can even make wolfs kill deer/rabbits for you, then simply scare away the wolf and harvest the carcass. One thing to note, every weapon except rocks will produce a bleed-out effect. If you hit any animal (except for moose, it won't bleed out) with a gun or bow, it will start to bleed out, and depending on the animal and weapon used, it will run away and die off somewhere eventually. You can use this if low on ammo to hurt an animal, and just go out looking for birds to find the carcass, but if you're dying of hunger and need that meat, you can track animals via blood on the snow, or the tracks they will leave. This isn't a great option all the time, however, as the animals may run uphills where the player cannot go, so sometimes you might wonder "where the fuck did it go", but then a few days you will stumble upon its carcass. This may be frustrating as an animal hit with an arrow may run away making you lose that arrow. If you find a carcass that might have been killed by your arrow, sometimes arrows will be pickable near the carcass, but sometimes you need to click on the carcass and the arrow will be added to your inventory. Generally, I use rocks and the revolver for rabbits, a rifle for deer and wolfs, and a bow for moose and bears.

- All foods spoil, with enough time they will reach 0% (although on Pilgrim this will take a long time). You can safely eat anything that's above 20% in condition. Foods such as Granola Bars, Chocolate Bars, Jerky, etc, will be "Spoiled/Rotten" and eating these has a slim chance of getting you sick if eaten with 20/30%. But even if you do get sick, you can just eat those before you go to sleep so you can recover. Always cook meat, don't eat it raw. The same rule of 20/30% applies. Anything that is below 20% I would consider garbage and toss it out, except for canned drinks (soda), they will never make you sick so you can safely drink them even with 5% condition. Don't risk drinking dirty water, don't want to get sick from it either. To counter food's decay, storing them outside is the best option as outside some food decay up to 10 times slower than indoors. You can make a pile of rocks to properly store your food, but don't worry about it getting stolen by animals. Predatory animals only eat the food you drop in their proximity after they've aggro on you, using the "bait" mechanic from the radial menu. If you drop raw meat near your base, and no wolf has seen it, the meat won't be eaten. Once you've gotten your Cooking skill up to level 5, only raw meat and fish can cause food poisoning.

- About Skills, most of them will level up by simply playing the game. You can find Skill Books to read, they will grant you experience points so always read them, but if you still need to level up a certain skill during the late game, you can always do so. Here are some tips on how to level up certain skills in case you've run out of Skill Books to read:

Archery levels up as you craft arrows and hit an animal with an arrow. The more you hunt with it, the faster it will level up. With level 5 of Archery, you can shoot a bow while crouched. 

Carcass Harvesting levels up with each successful harvest. Harvesting with bare hands (fresh carcass or defrosting with a campfire nearby) grants more XP points. 

Cooking only levels up after you've cooked something and picked it up, so burnt food won't count. Cooking small amounts of meat (harvest and cancel) or cooking teas/coffee is also a good way to level up.

Fire Starting levels up after a successful fire is lit, you can boost this by using a lit torch and making loads of campfires using sticks. 

Ice Fishing is self-explanatory, you need to catch a fish to gain XP. 

Mending levels up after each successful repair, you can boost this by fixing socks/gloves, etc, as soon as they drop below 100% condition. The faster it takes to repair, and the least materials it costs, the better. 

Rifle & Revolver Firearm will level up with each animal hit with said weapon. One thing about reading books for the Rifle skill, is there are two books you can find in the game. "Frontier Shooting Guide" which takes 4 hours to complete, and "Advanced Guns Guns Guns!" which take 25 hours. You can start reading both of those as soon as you start the game, but once you reach LEVEL 4 of Rifle Mastery, you will not be able to research the 4-hour one. Think of it as the basic book for newbies, and the 25-hour one as an advanced level book. So make sure to read FSG as soon as you can, just to be safe. I'm not 100% sure if you need to read both of these books, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Gunsmithing is a little tricky, as it only levels up with each item crafted via Ammunition Workbench (Blackrock and Bleak Inlet). Every item you create grants you XP, that is bullets, gunpowder, or ammo via combining bullets with gunpowder. Empty shells will be dropped each time you reload a weapon after firing a round, so make sure to pick the shells from the ground. Gunpowder can be found or crafted. In my experience, reading books, and crafting shells and ammo with found gunpowder was enough to level up, without doing a lot of work.

MID-GAME

 

After you've survived for over 50 days, taking care of some misc trophies as well as mapped ML and FM regions, it might be a good time to start with your journey to map the rest of the regions. Make sure to leave tools and gear you have in excess in your main base, just in case, as well as some supplies of water and food for when you get back. You should take the best clothing, 1x knife, 1x hatchet/hacksaw, 1x bedroll, 1x lantern with some fuel, one or two flares just in case, 1x prybar, 1x bow + 1x revolver/2x bow/ 1x bow + 1x rifle (if you have Moose Satchel, if you don't then don't bother with the rifle) with all of your arrows/ammo, a few Sewing Kits/Whetstones/Weapon Cleaning Kits to keep your gear in good condition, enough resources to start 2/3 fires (wood isn't an issue so don't bring too many of it), and as much food with a good weight to calories ratio. If you have MRE Rations that provide over 1700 calories with just 0.5kg, or Energy Bars with 500 calories per 0.10 kg, prioritize taking them instead of meat which may give about 1000 calories but weighs 1kg. The route I recommend taking would be, from Mystery Lake go to either Forlong Muskeg if you still need to map it, or to Mountain Town/Milton. We will stick with having Forlong Muskeg done, so in this case, your journey will look like this. ML - MT - Hushed River Valley - MT again - FM - Broken Railroad - FM - ML. That's the best route I could come up with, making the backtracking as short as possible. Make a small base in MT as you will be coming back through it, scavenge all of it and upgrade your items if you've found better ones, and go to HRV. It's a very confusing region with multiple paths available, so take lots of coffee/energy drinks so that you can pretty much speedrun through it. If you don't have Moose Satchel, you can find one near the Signal Fire. After you're done with HRV, go back to MT and restock if needed, then go back to FM but this time your goal is BR. Go there, do what you must, then go back to ML. You could go to Bleak Inlet through FM, but in order to enter Echo One Radio Tower in BI you need to enter the region from the Ravine's side, only then will you be able to go down using a rope to the main part of BI. After that region is done, go back to FM, make your journey toward The Ravine again, and go to Coastal Highway. This location will be perfect for you to stay until day 500 after you're done with the mapping process, so make a base there. From the CH you will have to make a detour to Desolation Point via Crumbling Highway, and go back to CH. From CH go to Pleasant Valley and explore it - keep in mind it's probably the largest region in the game. At this point, you've entered the late game so the end is in your grasp. 

 

LATE-GAME

 

After exploring PV you should have the best gear in the game, but you might find food to be a problem due to decay, so hunting may be your only source of calories. Either way, from PV you can go to either Blackrock via Keeper's Path, or to Timberwolf Mountain. Blackrock and TM do connect though, so it doesn't really matter which route you take. Keep in mind the Tactical Backpack in Ash Canyon though, so I'd recommend going TM - AC - TM again - Blackrock - PV. Pleasant Valley is kind of a choke point of the entire world map, as it grants you the possibility to travel to pretty much any region in the game so if you've missed something, now is the time. If you're done with exploring the world, however, congratulations! Now it's just the waiting game. You can stay in PV, but I'd go back to CH and stay there until day 500. It provides fishing huts and lots of animals as your source of calories. By this point, you will be done with everything else so you can just make a stockpile of food and water, and skip the time until you need to go out for food again. Depending on how fast you were with traveling, you may stay here for 200 days, or just 50. Now may be the time for you to max out all of your other skills, or craft some of the clothes you still need. 

 

That's it, I know this guide is a bit of a slog to read through, but I hope it will be of any use to whoever decides to tackle this wonderful game and wants its rare platinum trophy. Take care!

cat tail plant counts towards happy harvester trophy. I got the trophy while collecting a cat tail plant.

cat tail plant counts towards happy harvester trophy. I got the trophy while collecting a cat tail plant. 

But it's not required, which is weird, even the wiki says it lol.

that's just a half-assed guide I did while working on the plat myself. working on a proper trophy guide but the new dlc announced made me stop and wait for the release, as it may have some major changes to the game.

This is a super helpful thread! Thanks for taking the time to write up this guide. Even though not many people have read this, I’m sure this information will prove invaluable to the few who do go for this one.

 

This game landed on my radar a few months back, and I keep looking it up every so often and mulling it over on whether or not I should pick it up. It looks like a pain in the ass to platinum, but the game itself looks like a wonderful and relaxing experience, and I’ve enjoyed watching gameplay videos. If anything was holding me back it would definitely be those 2 trophies so I appreciate all the information and resources. Cheers man.

Wow, this is impressive. When I 100%d Don't starve, I was 'starving' for more survival games, got this game and it was sooo frustrating and hard that I left it be, it's been some years since then.

 

I want to think that one day I'll retake it.

To be honest? You can make the platinum (at least the sandbox part) 3/10 if you set your world to correct settings and utilize save backups. Story is very easy just a bit boring, and challenges are 5/10 max. They may seem daunting but they are very doable. It's just a huge time sink that's all. Took me 143h to get 100% and I have already known every single strategy and way to make the plat as efficient as possible. For someone new, it's 200h+ easily.
