Wall-E Not Actually Gardening?

Hello,

 

Saved Wall-E, brought him back to the village. I've upgraded his garden about four times now via Scrooge and Gold Coins. I quit out and came back in later and saw some plants growing in his garden, but they seem to always stay the same height -- they don't grow to fruition.

 

Am I missing something here? Is Wall-E supposed to like garden stuff and harvest it? It seems un-harvestable. Wondering if it's a bug or working as intended.

Wall-e won't actively garden when you're in game, he only gardens when the game is closed.

Thanks Mushu. That makes sense. Logged in last night and suddenly there was a bunch of random plants on his plot. Looks like he even plants stuff you don't have seeds for (like, he planted a Potato, but I've never seen a Potato seed).
