A year ago when I joined I had the shit ripped out of me for playing Ratalaika games. Having 3 children, I had no time to play bigger games. I was sick of losing progress on things because I couldn’t get to a checkpoint before someone needed me. Ratalaika allowed me to have some enjoyment without a huge commitment. Everyone talked shit about them.. they’re not *real games*. Half of you have changed your tune now since the one button games have come out.

 

Let me give you an insight to someone else’s life. My first child has eosinophilic gastroenteritis. She spends the day vomiting her guts up or attached to the toilet. She is regularly admitted into hospital as she is so deficient in vitamins and it can take a toll on her vital organs.

 

Child 2. He has cerebral palsy, right side hemiplegia, reynaulds, anaemia, sensory processing disorder and autism after a stroke at birth. When I’m not clearing up sick from child 1, I’m helping Theo with his meltdowns and trying to find a quiet space for him when his system is overloaded.

 

Child 3. He’s just been diagnosed and hospitalised twice in the last 2 weeks with very bad asthma. When I’m not clearing up sick from child 1, navigating meltdowns from child 2, I’m now pinning Hugo down to administer 40 puffs of inhalers and steroids each day.

 

We are in hospital or at appointments most days of the week for therapies or treatments. And that’s not even including my own health issues and operations I’m dealing with. 
 

Some days I don’t get near the console. Some days I sit here on remote play on my phone because I don’t want to leave one of my children unattended even when they’re napping. Ever tried to play something decent on remote play? 
 

If I want to play some trash, I fucking will. Because it suits my life. I’m still adding trophies to my profile which I enjoy. Money isn’t an issue so they’ve been very beneficial to me and my mental health. It gives me an escape from this sometimes shitty existence or bad luck and health problems. I’m not chasing a leaderboard. I’m doing this for my own profile. 
 

Just because many of you still have mummy wiping your arse and have all the time in the world to dedicate to big games, doesn’t mean we all do. I am the MUMMY wiping everyone’s arse. Really don’t appreciate reading some of the cruel, horrible, small minded comments on here. No idea why you have to attack other people’s gaming habits. You have no idea what they’re dealing with in their life. How would you like it if someone came and shat all over your profile and the games you play? Have 90% of a site ganging up on you? It says more about you guys than it does us. You’re bullies nothing more.

It really seems to me that there is simply a hyper-competitive community of trophy collectors that *requires* a steady stream of these games in order to keep their contest going. They aren't "gamers" like the rest of us. Their goals have nothing to do with video games. It's like the games themselves are just the pucks in their private hockey league.

 

The posts in this thread present these people as trophy-addicted losers living in total isolation like Gollum and marveling over their "precious" PSN score. I simply don't believe that's the case.

 

There is just a group of people using video games for something different. They're involved in an entirely separate endeavor. The games are just the footballs in their football league. That's it. I'm sure that many of them are fine people. I'm sure they have their own communities, discord servers, and youtube channels to commune over their hobby.

 

This thread has been 14 pages of whiny brats stamping their feet and saying "NO! EVERYBODY HAS TO PLAY GAMES THE WAY I WANT, WITH THE SAME GOALS AS ME OR IT'S NOT FAIR"

Not sure if you're from the UK, but there's a culture of making bad jokes and awful puns, edge of the pier humour, where that's the whole point. The focus should not be on the players who play these games and their motivations for doing so, but more so for these devs who's sole aim is to take advantage of the fact that the bulk of these people play due to being addicted to the trophy count.

 

Of course there will always be exceptions, but my issue is with the people making these games and the reason why they are doing it.
