This is quite a failure but gotta give props to google for giving everyone who bought one and bought anything on the service a refund.

It's a good day for us gamers. This gives me hope, that future streaming projects will be warned. I love to collect games and streaming games is the worst thing i can imagine as a gamer.

Also, what happens with purchased consoles and games. You won't be able to use them at all in the future i guess?

They'll be museum and collector's pieces for people with more money than sense.

Yet there is no physical. Only the controller as collection. 😂

Not really surprising, forgot stadia even existed just a few months after it launched. This just goes to show that physical copies are still king. Even digital downloads is still better than this

This is why I buy physical. Have fun playing your digital only games when the platform servers get shut down. I get the convenience, but the ability to play indefinitely and to be able to resell my games make physical games so much more valuable to me.

Digital is practical to players who jump from one game to the next, without hardly touching most of them, until they find one they really like. I stopped filling up my cabinet with physical games once I realized they'll just be a playground for dust mites and baby spiders.

A google project failing after 3 years on the market? That's the least surprising thing I've ever seen lmao

Edit: I see they are refunding hardware and software purchases. Real classy move that they have no obligation to do.

I am sure they just don't want to rock the digital ownership boat. Cause eventually one of these platforms is going to implode at such a level that the government gets involved which none of these companies want.

And also shortly after Babylon's Fall Shutdown announcement.
Wonder what is next on the list?

My bet is on "no more major updates for GTA Definitive Trilogy"...

I'm going to guess that a shitload of Activision related stuff may be next, Microsoft buyout and having stuff tied to Battle.net is going to require a major correction.

No surprise (wait, that's a lie... I am surprised it didn't get the axe sooner), and no big loss. I'd rather play my games client-side instead of streaming them anyway.

Google Stadia! Nostalgic man!

It's honestly a bit like the Ouya!

I had completely forgotten about its existence, until that is, the closure announcement, and then I remembered...

Amusing it's still "not available in my country" (Japan)

So I never got to experience how shit, erm I mean, how good it was.

Earlier than the prediction too!

I only used the free trial but from a tech perspective it was "pretty good". Input lag wasn't really noticeable and I barely encountered any visual artifacting. That's the problem though, it was only almost as good as playing games on a real console. If I'm going to have zero ownership over something and rely on a company notorious for shutting down services to even be allowed to play my games then it has to be either better or significantly cheaper, preferably both. It's absolute madness that they charged full retail price to purchase games on the service.

An inferior experience compared to last gen Xbox or PS consoles, higher software prices and no ownership whatsoever. What could go wrong?

Microsoft's claim of not seeing Sony and Nintendo as competition but Google and Amazon just got more flimsy.
