Need Direction

I've fallen into a cycle most trophy hunters dread where I have many unfinished games attached to my profile and more are added every month with so many great releases across all the PlayStation platforms. I made the decision this morning to bring that to a halt right now. I've decided to achieve 100% trophy count (or as close as I can get) on all of the games registered to my profile before playing a new one. But I need some direction. I've decided to start with Ico because I only have one trophy left (not counting the plat). After that, I'm not sure which order to play the remaider as the list of incomplete games is a bit daunting. I want to play the remainder in the most "smooth" manner...if that makes sense. The advisor feature on this website is great but it appears to recommend on a trophy by trophy basis instead of game by game. I welcome all suggestions. Take a look at my profile and give me an ordered list. Thanks!

The reason I'm uncomfortable with that is, letting my preferences be my guide is what got me to where I am. I would start a game, a new one would release and I would jump ship. The purpose of my new agenda here is, as weird as it sounds, for it to be a chore. To bite down and play these games even though Final Fantasy X/X-2 is right around the corner. My OCD personality should aid in my agenda to follow a carefully composed list.

What I would do is this:

Make a list with groups of 3 games. Fill each group with 1 or 2 games you really like or easy ones and 1 or 2 games you find really boring, very time consuming or really hard. 1 or 2 depends on how many fun games and less fun games you have. Then just finish group by group. That way you won't be bored to death since you can switch up and once you get too bored of one game switch to the fun game.

Right now I'm finishing up the last part of AC IV BF and at the same time having full focus on PAYDAY: The Heist and PAYDAY 2. Also still playing Borderlands 2 for fun after 100%. Both PAYDAYs are going to be very hard and frustrating at some point and that's why I'm keeping AC IV and BL2 for fun and IMO PayDay 2 is a bit more fun and less hard than The Heist so I can switch up between those 2 aswell. Just trying to finish The Heist first so I have done the hardest out of the 2. Because if I manage to finish The Heist I know I can finish PAYDAY 2. That makes me feel I'm good to go. Both games are fun but hard. I'll likely finish AC IV way before I finish PAYDAY but then I still have BL2. I said to myself not to start a new game before finishing both PAYDAYs because I have put it off for too long and at some point most people will make the transitation to PS4. That's also important, finishing games with Co-op/MP trophies first. Completion rate is very important to me but keeping my sanity is not a thing to forgot.

Good luck bud.

The only thing that I can tell you is to just keep having fun. Personally, this is exactly why I don't push myself to 100% everything that I play...life is filled with enough pressures, I don't want to add to that by pushing myself to do something that obviously I don't feel like doing.

If you're gaming for fun (wouldn't know of any other reason to do so) then honestly, take the weight off your shoulders and just stick to that...100%s or none. Anything beyond that goes against the previously mentioned fundamental point of gaming in the first place.

Dude I don't see a logical route or specific order to complete them in cause unfortunately quite a few of them either are grinds or have long MP grinds. If you need help in Ragnarok Odyssey though man I can help you with the story since I still need to collect all the cards anyway. Although I would recommend beating through the ones that you have more than 10 trophies first.

I can't speak from personal experience because I couldn't care less about trophies, but from being on this website and others like it for years it seems the most common complaint I hear from trophy hunters is they simply lost interest in gaming in general. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that they're forcing themselves to play games they hate and it makes them not want to even play games they used to enjoy.

Would it be possible to alternate? Play and finish a game you love and then do one you don't enjoy and alternate from there. I think that would make it less likely for you to get burnt out because as much as you hate the current game you know that you'll be playing a game you love next. I hate seeing people get burnt out on gaming because of their desire for a high completion rate.

Well said! I just don't and have never understood why people feel compelled to 100% games that they don't like. Its like someone continuing to eat turd sandwiches just because someone promised to give them a nice shiny medal to show off to everyone for it. It maybe a shiny medal...but its still a shiny medal for wasting your time on crap!

Great suggestions here. I really appreciate them. I wouldn't say I "hate" any of the games on my list. So sorting them in a manner that takes that into consideration probably won't help. I honestly have fun with them all. Sorting them in an alternating manner between easy and hard/grinding is probably where I'll have to go here. I guess that's where I'm looking for suggestions. I was thinking the PSNProfiles community might have a better idea on which games are time consuming, difficult, frustrating, etc. and could help me orchestrate a list that is composed in a well manner that takes those factors into consideration.

We do still play for fun, don't we?  Admittedly, fun comes in many forms.  Sometimes I like to be challenged, sometimes I like to unwind and play on "auto-pilot", sometimes I like to play stuff I've already platted, sometimes I want to play a particular genre.  But I always reserve the right to change my mind (or game, in this case) if I cease having genuine fun.

No harm (or shame, for that matter) in tackling your list in a way that fits your mood.  I used to hyper focus on a single game if I was plat hunting, and I still do at times, but not at the expense of playing something I derive enjoyment from.  I rage quit less now and my completion percentage has improved by about 15 points that way as well.

I'd suggest to you the same thing I suggested to someone who asked a similar question a little while back.

Alphabetize your games and start at the top. As you complete them and see the 100%'s/plats in a row, it'll encourage you to keep going. If the first thing you see when you log in is a small % complete list, it's so disheartening you might not be motivated to keep going.

If you're having fun, then why worry about it? Like the person two posts above me said, just do them at your own pace or whenever you feel like it. If you never do...oh well, life and gaming still goes on.

I like that. That's a very interesting approach. Just crazy enough (and yet simple enough) to work.

I would suggest to play a game you feel in the mood to play then see it through until you either have the platinum or you get to a point where you cannot earn any more trophies in it (whether it's too hard, too grindy, need other players or online shut down). Then just move on to the next game following the same process.

Some people enjoy playing games and others enjoy earning trophies. Before you start this completion spree, make sure you know which one you enjoy more...

Exactly! And for people that can identify with the latter, I have a problem with them calling themselves gamers. They don't play games for fun but for some sort of self validation.

Why not go through your list and find the games you enjoy the most and finish those first? If you want to have 100% completion you may as well start with the games you have the most fun playing.

Makes sense, I do it the other way around though. I like to save the best for last :)

I wouldn't recommend going for time-consuming games first, it can get very demoralising when you stare at this backlog that just never seems to get thinner.

My advice is:

1. never go for just one game at a time - that is a recipe for burnout. Try to have at least 2 on the go, preferably different genres or difficulties.

2. Dont worry about trophies till after first playthrough. Games aren't research assignments, and some games with good stories can be ruined by going for trophies too early.

3. Alternate multiplayer and singlplayer games - going for a plat on a multiplayer game takes time and a bit of luck, mix it up with a good singleplayer for when you cant find a game or are getting trounced.

4. Have an easy one in you back pocket. Sometimes after struggling through and conquering a real tough game it can be nice to blitz through a lego game or something similar. Don't underestimate the fun of some easier plats. I have a great time with vita lego games and am not in the slightest bit ashamed to admit it!

5. Have a 2 out 1 in ratio - don't deny yourself a new game you want, just make sure for every new game you start you finish two others from your list.

6. Have fun :)

When I complete a game. I do a list of all my games in radom.org and let chaos dictate wich one I should play next. I do focus on one game at a time, at least in SP, I try to do MP trophies as soons as I get the game since I'm afraid the servers might close.

I don't like jumping from one story to another, I loose focus and end up not caring for neither of them.

As everyone else has said it's important to differentiate between playing games for fun and playing for trophies.

I have two accounts. One for playing games just for pure enjoyment. On this account I might play games that I will later play for trophies or games with absurd/unobtainable trophy lists. And the other account is for trophy hunting.

I started trophy hunting 5-6 months ago and i quickly learned not to instantly play games I had played before because i thought it would be an easy 100% (God of War for example) and burning out on it/them since I had played it/them before and generally just starting a load of games for quick trophies. With this in mind I created this spreadsheet https://www.dropbox.com/s/k9syhwrul6drstc/Trophy%20hunting.xlsx to organize my tropy hunting. It works for me and I'm having fun with it. You are welcome to use this if you think it might work for you. I will try my best at explaining anything you don't understand about it if you need it.

I think DrBloodmoney's earlier advice is spot on. Stick with 1 or 2 games before moving on to others and alternate between easy and not so easy.

If you're serious about improving your completion %, good for you! But don't let stop you from having fun and enjoying new games that you really want to play (like Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD, which I WILL be getting!) Just try and complete more games than you add.
