Trophies to Fight Cancer 2

 

Hello everyone!

I'm just your average user picking up in place of your favorite moderator for what is now technically the annual Trophies to Fight Cancer event here on PSNP. I've never run an event before and will probably never run one again so this is just my shot at this. I ask you kindly, don't expect me to put on an event as good as @Beyondthegrave07 and @Starrk_01 did last year. Please don't be afraid to message me directly if I miss something. I'm probably gonna miss something at some point, just let me know and I will absolutely take care of it.

 

But with that out of the way, it's time to hunt trophies and raise some money to fight cancer. This event still holds the same concept as it did last year. Cancer affects many of us. And frankly, fuck cancer. I can't personally donate the way some generous people can, but I'm opening this event and considering possible special badges (and definitely some special recognition) for anyone who can donate. It starts at whatever you want, folks. Don't feel like you need to donate a certain amount, any amount at all is what this is really about. Similar to last year's event, I'll post the names of any donators here at the top of this post:

DA RULES:

 

First of all, this is an open-ended event. No deadlines for "sign-ups." As long as you fulfill the requirements, you'll be "signed-up."

 

And the rules for this event are pretty simple. This will be a two-month event starting October 5th and end November 30th, 2022 GMT+0. For every game completed with pink (October's breast cancer awareness) in the PSNP thumbnail or orange (November's prostate cancer awareness). For this event, you can complete as many games as possible as long as they follow the below rules.

 

1. No autopopping platinums (No 10 second plats, sorry!)
2. You can play games you've stacked before, but you cannot stack the same trophy list (same thumbnail) twice for the event. (example: only pop one sound shapes plat, doing all 6 will only count as 1).
3. No games with a RARITY completion percentage above 80%. (I want you to at least sort of earn it this time)
4. The game has to at least have been out for 2 weeks in order for it to count (No sneaking in Zippy stacks at the last second)
5. You must post here during the time period for the game to count and must tell me which color it is (orange or pink, you can only choose one color).
6. I'm probably gonna be a stricter judge than last year. I don't want to make things too difficult, but if we're down to analyzing a couple pixels, it's not gonna count by me. If a game is really on the fence, just pick something else.

 

Other than that, everything else is free game. I don't want to make it difficult for people to earn money for the event, but I also want to make sure people actually have to put in some sort of effort to earn it as well. Otherwise, I might as well just empty my bank account now. Length of the game doesn't matter as long as it follows these rules.

 

EXAMPLES:

 

So, deciding what is orange vs what is pink is not as straight forward as I thought and I'm sure there are some people wondering, "Wtf does he mean by thumbnails and what is acceptable?" One step at a time!

 

1. What is pink and what is orange?

These are Pink....

 

Look, I'm not going to insult your intelligence and argue what color is orange and what color is pink, but if you can match it to either of these two, you are good. I'm going to use the honor system here for the most part, but don't use red and call it pink and don't use yellow and call it orange. I'm going to call you out on your bullshit and not count it. At least ask ahead of time if you are really not sure. I'm likely not going to just say flat out no, but I don't want people to tell me Dead Nation is pink when it's as blood red as it gets. 

 

2. Wtf is a thumbnail and can I get some examples?

A thumbnail is the little picture next to the game on your PSNProfile. You can find examples of what would and would not count on the original event post here:

Like I said, I'm not going to be too picky on it, but please use common sense. My suggestion is if you even have to question it, then pick something else or at least ask me before you commit in the thread. I have a few games I've seen where you could convince me either way (Nonary games I got red, blood orange, and blood pink as answers when I asked on Discord) and I'll probably take it if you can at least match it to a paint color with the word pink or orange in it. If you are indeed colorblind, I can make an ongoing list, and I suggest others to post what games they are thinking to help as well. Color blindness is a real thing too, and I want to help anyone who has it if they are interested in this event.

BADGES!!!

Badges are coming back this year. I think the badges will be more uniform this year as I don't wanna stress anybody with a work load right before the holiday season, given how this year's event wasn't really planned ahead. Badges will be made by last year's badge creator @DrBloodmoney so be sure to thank him when you enjoy this year's badges.

 

Few last things to note:

 

-There is no deadlines for sign-ups, it's open until the very end of the event.

-I'll track participants once a game is finished by them. Technically, anyone can participate in the event even if they don't want a badge/forget to vote.

-Remember to report back here if you want your game to count. 

-It doesn't matter if you already started the game or not, it counts as long as it's finished between the two dates.

- You can do just the base of a 100% that has DLC trophies, but the rarest trophy has to be under 80% and you must point this out to me if you decide to do this. Otherwise, it doesn't count.

- Pink and orange games can be earned in either month. October or November. Doesn't matter

-I will retroactively count any games going back to October 5th, 2022. If you happened to finish a pink or orange game 1 day before this post, just let me know.

-Please give the event time to process this year. I'm trying to get a team for the job, but everyone has their own life to live. The event will be tracked as fast as it can be.

Also, glad someone else decided to fill in for me this year. I'm just too stressed with work right now to handle all the additional work that comes along with running this. I'll try to finish a few games too for the event, but we'll see.

Has it been a year already? Damn, time flies. Fuck time too ? I'm in, though I'm not sure how many I'll do, considering my trophy whoring crisis and the general feeling of being burned out. Already scanning for shades of orange/pink but Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time seems more brown than orange. 

Not a great start I guess.

Today makes 3 months I lost my mother to cancer, I was with her from beginning to end, it was a very sad and tiring journey, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, seeing topics like this always bring a tear to my eye?

Haha I agree with you ? Anyways, A Crack in Time is allowed. I see at least a shade of orange, and the color picker agreed with me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost friends and family to different cancers too, but I can only imagine how hard it is to lose your mother that way. Stay strong, dude.

It really is tough to watch. My Uncle had cancer when I was in high school, and it was really tough to see him go through holidays without eating, watch him age rapidly from the chemotherapy, and when it got to his lymph nodes, he was unable to talk at all, his face was misshapen, and used a small whiteboard to have conversations... Sometimes, it was hard to keep a good poker face, when inside, I was crying for him. I think that was really the moment where it hit me that this was going to kill him. Definitely wouldn't wish it on anyone. It was hard on everyone to slowly watch him die in front of us.

 

Not sure if this story really did anything for you, but just know that I empathize with you and wish you the best as you recover from your loss.

If you don't mind me doubling up a bit with the Fall 2022 Backlog Challenge, I'll participate with Steven Universe: Unleash the Light. I believe it's the correct color, very specifically being a highlighted rose pink.

 

For my part, I've had two family members pass from cancer. My cousins both did at different times. The older brother smoked all this life, but he didn't like the filtered stuff. He'd drive out to the farms and buy tobacco there, then roll and cut his own cigarettes. Didn't like the idea of pumping "preservatives and stuff" into his lungs. "Plus", he'd tell me, "nothing beats the real thing. This comes from the earth, not a lab." I still carry that sentiment with me. I don't smoke, but I grow my own tobacco plants. The smell of the real stuff is rather soothing and it's a lovely plant as well. As it happens, of all his life long smoker friends, he was the only one to get cancer. I remember he found that a little funny when he was told. From there to the end, he took it all in stride, smile on his face until the end.

 

I tried to help look after him, but he lived a city away and some of our elders were having their own health issues. After the end, my other cousin, the younger brother, took ill really hard. Turns out he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer nearly a year before hand and had been forcing himself through it to keep the family going. With is brother gone, he finally relaxed. Cancer took him a month later. This one wasn't peaceful, though, no smiles. I'd taken care of people in various stages of advanced illness for most of my life, but nothing really prepares you for watching someone waste away so quickly.

@kindajustin First thanks for hosting this event in lieu of Grave. I know this cause is close to him (actually both of us) and I am pretty confident I can say how happy we are about someone picked this up. I can also attest to work kicking him in the ass at the moment .

 

I want to join the event and donate, but I want to know how "strict" you are going to be before committing an amount for donation. I can admit @Beyondthegrave07 and I were pretty lax in last year's event and while I was happy to donate last year's amount I wasn't exactly expecting that high of a number. Luckily I was/still am in a good financial position to make donations but humor me on my ask.

 

So with that being said, tell me if the below works for either color (or both if possible). No pressure on yes or no, that doesn't change me not donating and you aren't going to hurt my feelings if you say no. I'm also not going to argue about it either. You and anyone who you deem as judge is law of the event in my book.

Seeing other peoples badges of this event specifically made me wanna participate in these charity events, happy to get the opportunity to do it this time around ?.

I've worked in cancer wards and I know that they can and do help, I was absolutely convinced one teenage boy had passed away when he left during my week off, and when he returned while I was on shift, I had to hide my smile of relief. I'll donate something, not confirming the amount yet though.
