Taruta13
Finished Dark Cloud Day 2... but then my completion rose from the dead like a vampire because of Lord Vampire himself, Dracul. AKA I got those last two trophies and platinum for Castlevania Requiem so I gained a ton of completion on that. Don't worry, I have five games to go. Popular Post Kevvik
And so it begins… Game #1: Spiritfarer Early impressions Spiritfarer describes itself as a cozy management game about death and this does sum it up fairly succinctly. You play Stella, a young girl who wakes up on a boat being taken to the Everdoor by Charon, who ferries the dead to their next destination. You aren’t going though, having been chosen as their replacement to become the new Spiritfarer. You are given the Everlight (as has your cat Daffodil) which essentially doubles as all your tools such as pick, saw (dual with Daffodil, it’s cute) and fishing rod. You go back to the real world and find a friend, Gwen, who apparently tried to escape Death only to have you get picked up to be the new Spiritfarer. You take the first boat you come across which becomes your new ferry. You can upgrade this at a shipyard run by a shark named Albert to increase the size of the boat, outfit it with extras to access new areas of the sea, and get a blueprint table which allows you to build things on your boat you will need for the management side such as kitchen, guest house, sawmill, foundry, gardens, etc. Starting with Gwen and progressing with other spirits you pick up, you can fulfill requests (which advance each spirit’s storyline) or just sail around the seas grabbing stuff at islands, fishing and the like. You do need to do other things to keep the spirits happy, like feed them, give them hugs, take them to certain islands to engage in activities like shopping. The happier they are, you may sometimes have perks which help you out like that they will make things that are useful to you. The game has a very cute aesthetic which keeps things light. The characters are well rounded and have back stories which will open up as you progress their quest lines, eventually taking them, when ready, to the Everdoor so they can cross over. There’s no huge rush to move things along. The day schedule moves through until nighttime when you can no longer navigate and will stay still until morning, after you sleep. You don’t have to go to bed right away and can cook and fish until you are ready to go to bed. When you fish, different catches are available at different times and in different sea conditions as well as fishing out junk of varying value. Extra activities at sea such as hunting floating jellyfish and getting struck by lightning (actually a good thing) keep things interesting as well as having merchants on islands and at sea for buying and selling. Travel can be sped up a bit once you open up bus stops, where a seal will instantly ferry you between locations, aiding in what might eventually grow tedious when you have to backtrack to distant locations for things like resource collection and ship upgrades. So far I am really enjoying the laid back approach (as a long time Animal Crossing fan) and the story bits that come out keep the characters interesting. I’m really taking to this and want to see where the story goes, especially if mine changes at all. Popular Post Phantochi
Alright, i'll share my final impressions of dbz, i couldn't put as much time as i wanted to because i got sick on those last 3 days, i doubt a few extra hours would change my opinion on the game but still, take this with a grain of salt. I'll start GTA VC tomorrow, and i'm very excited to see how this remaster, remake or whatever they call it plays out. GAME# 01 - Dragon Ball Z Battle Of Z - Final Impressions The game isn't necessarily bad, but it is full of disappointment if you enjoyed any of the previous good DBZ games, like RB2, Burst Limit, Budokai 3, BT3. The game let's you play on a team of 4, either AI controlled or online Multiplayer, and battle through various events in the DBZ timeline, and those events in the story gives us only glimpses of the canon of the DBZ universe and they even butchered some of the story lines somehow. For a game so focused on multiplayer, they really blew it with this one. There is no offline duel mode, the only multiplayer here is online, and with 8 players per game, you can imagine how easy it is to find a match on a ps3 game released 8 years ago. For the story events, you can only use the selected fighters for each event, and the combat is extremely shallow, you button mash to get a combo to fill your ki, then you fire a ki attack, and repeat. You can only destroy very specific points on the map, and because of that your combo chain is often interrupted by something so tiny as a rock, and it breaks the immersion and the flow of the gameplay quite significantly. The fights in this game can be very boring, enemies have too much HP, and if they block there's nothing you can do besides waiting in front of them until they stop blocking. For some of the fights they keep throwing enemies at you non stop, it takes too long to finish those levels. To make things worse, there's no music during battles, not even during the in-game cutscenes, all you hear during those 10~15mins of battle is the sound of your punches and the characters talking to one another. To vary things a little, there is a cards system in the game. As you progress in the story, you get cards that can be equipped into the characters to improve some of their moves, characteristics, etc. There are a lot of cards to unlock and they all have different effects. There isn't exactly a limit on the power of the card that you can use on characters, so the more OP cards you shove in, the more powerful that character will be. I can only imagine how fun this system was back when the multiplayer was alive. Unlocking characters is a pain in the ass, because you need an S ranking on specific story missions, but if you're playing with AI controlled partners you will be constantly having to revive them. You can get a party going with 3 more friends, that would probably make things easier, i tried searching for teammates and online games a few times, but didn't find any games. The visuals of this game are actually quite nice, the character designs are pretty much spot on to the anime, the environments are alright, but nothing jaw dropping. They have all of the familiar locations from the anime where some of the battles took place, like Planet Namek, Cell Games Arena, Supreme Kai's World, etc. tl;dr This game isn't bad, but there's a lack of content, and the simplistic one button combat doesn't add any depth to it. I would only recommend this for die-hard DBZ fans that don't have anything else to play. Time Played: ~3 HoursTrophy Progress: 10 of 49 trophies earnedCompletion percentage: 69.50% (- 0.16, i will go back to this later on, if i finish all the story stuff it will probably give me like 0.10% back) NEXT UP: GTA Vice City Definitive Edition Not much to say here, we've heard a lot of things about this trilogy, and none of them good, but since Vice City is my favorite in the series, might as well give this a shot, i just hope i'll enjoy playing this as much as do when i play the original on the ps2.
Popular Post Taruta13
Okay, since Kevvik is doing an early review, I might as well do an early summary... Game #1: Dark Cloud 2 Hours Played So Far: 3 days, 9 hours in-game time Not actually a first impression as I've platinumed this game before, but a first impression on a revisit: Why did I not stick to my guns and work on this game after I got the platinum on the ORIGINAL DARK CLOUD? I'm going through Chapter 2 of 8 and so far I have been enjoying the game. I completed this game on the original hardware(PS2) way before I found a copy of the original Dark Cloud. This was about the time I rented Disgaea 2 from Blockbusters, but more on that in my second session, when I play Disgaea 5. I'm not saying the original Dark Cloud was bad, but the unskippable cutscenes, the thirst mechanic in dungeons and the fact you have three times as many playable characters and each had an ability you needed to progress(the main character was the only one who could collect those floating Atla orbs to get items for Georama, Xiao the catgirl was able to leap over gaps that everyone else[but Osmond, who quickly replaced here when he could FLY over those gaps!, etc.) was sort of annoying. Now, there are restricted zones in this game which force you to use Monica or Max (I'm at the first of those now so I have to build up Monica's weapons to stand a chance against those turtles which have sky-high defense against swords), but they aren't as annoying and once you hit Chapter 3, the local shop sells(for a pricey 3000 gold) scrolls to undo these seals. The third one prevents you from healing or refueling your Ridepod but that's a small curse considering that Ridepod is the most OP device in the game as long as you aren't restricted to Monica. This game has aged pretty decently and there are a lot more trophies here than in the original Dark Cloud(which only had 20, and you could earn half of them before leaving the first town) and many of them are not pushovers and require you to do a lot of stuff but the graphics, music and mechanics are a joy to experience and that's why I put this game as my platinum for December in the Winter Backlog Challenge. I will probably end up starting Chapter 3 on the fifth and final day when I have to switch games on the 6th but this game has lots of content in it. And I haven't even gotten to the Georama part yet! EDIT to @Kevvik: Spiritfarer sounds interesting. I saw a few footage trailers and was moved by it. Maybe in 2023 I will pick this title up. I try to do an early first impression and hopefully a bit more thorough at the end of the game time, especially with having 5 days for it. Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition is on PS Plus Extra right now. I’m just playing the vanilla version which I bought 2 weeks before it went on plus. Not sure of the difference between the two. I’m really enjoying this though. Popular Post dmland12
Game #1 Plutobi: The Dwarf Planet Tales Trophies Earned: 12 of 31 (23%) Completion: 96.65% (-0.35%) So, the premise of the game is that you're the planet Pluto and you're mad that you're no longer considered a major planet anymore, but instead a "dwarf planet". So, what else is there to do but to find some asteroids, let them crash into you and get bigger. Big enough to take on the other planets of the solar system, and apparently also the sun (looks like the final boss, but I haven't gotten that far). The catch is that each asteroid is associated with one of 4 elements and you've got to choose the correct counter-elements to actually be able to absorb it instead of taking damage from it. Also, since you're controlling a whole planet (or dwarf planet!) movement is fairly sluggish. You target the direction that you want to move towards and then you'll start accelerating that way. Want to turn around? Well, you'll need some time to slow down and then speed back up into the new direction you want to go. There's items you can pick up and use, stuff on the map that can help or (usually) hurt you, and a boss battle with each planet. The sub-levels are varied and have different goals you'll need to do before you move on like leveling up, collecting objects, surviving x seconds, or fighting a mid-boss. That's just a quick summary, there's actually a lot more to this game than I was expecting. It reminds me of the classic arcade game Asteroids, but with a LOT of extra mechanics added on top. I liked the idea of Pluto trying to bulk up and the other planets trying to stop him too. Also the soundtrack was pretty nice! Overall, I thought it played great although it does require some coordination and reaction. And the randomness can (and will) screw you over. Oh man, if you hate RNG, this might not be the game for you. For example, you'll need to collect enough of each 4 of the elements in order to lvl up, but I swear the RNG was out to get me at times. I'd sometimes see nothing from one of them for a very long streak. The asteroids seem to spawn randomly and sometimes change direction randomly, which works OK most of the time, but they can also spawn almost right in your face giving little time to move or react. That's not actually as bad as it sounds since you've got a generous amount of health and go back to full on each lvl up. But, it does make "I'm Invincible!" a lot more difficult. Speaking of that trophy, I spent a lot of time yesterday evening going for it, mainly to see if I could confirm that it's not bugged since it's still at 0%. I made a lot of attempts and came close several times (including 4 times with just getting hit once!), but unfortunately something always happened to screw me over. It looks doable though with some luck and enough attempts. Other than that trophy the list doesn't look that bad. I think people just didn't give the game much chance. Game #2 Preview I think everyone's heard of this one. ? I'm looking foward to playing it as the whole GTA/RDR thing is something I haven't really played much of (just a little GTA V online with my cousin on Xbox... but not much at all). I think I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect: open world wild west adventure with plenty of chances to be a complete jackass if that's what you want. Sounds good, but I'll see how I like it. And I'll try to be nice. ?
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Game #1 - Blair Witch - Review Time played: 6h Trophies earned: 20/26 So I finished the game. I apparently missed a figurine collectible and I suspect it was due to a death it maybe not staying registered, Another trophy that should've unlocked, didn't unlock either. Bummer. The premise of this game is essentially that a kid went missing in the woods and you're part of the search group. Then you ignore the objective and search for collectibles that are spread out all over a not quite open world, but not linear either, chunk of forrest. That is what you spent 70& of the time doing in this game. You search for collectibles, then there's a handful of burn the ghost with the flashlight fights, and a dog that helps you with the combat, finds clues and gets pet. The one neat mechanic so far has been the camcorder, which let's you alter the environment occasionally. Visually it's fine, the sound is also ok for the most part. There are plot points wihere a cellphone and a walkie-talkie come into play. That audio gets played through the controllers mic, and seems to be substantially lower volume than the regular dialogue. I'm not playing it with headphones, although the game suggested to do so, so maybe that way the sound design would be better. The game has terrible pacing from start to finish. It became a lot better in the final two chapters, that's 2 out of 17 mind you, while the rest was quite boring to get through. Even the final chapter dragged on far too long. It's a 6/10 for me. It's just like the movie, really underwhelming. Not even going to return to it for the platinum. Due to the missed collectibles, I'd need to play it twice more, and it's not enjoyable enough to go through again. Popular Post Taruta13
So it's time, I finished the first session and time to roll out the review! Game #1: Dark Cloud 2 Final Review Time Played: 15 hoursTrophies Earned: 9 out of 31 (17%) Unearned Trophies: 67New Completion: 97.22% Oh wait... I have to give a summary of the plot? *sigh* Basically, you start off as Maxmillion, who is a young rich boy who doesn't let wealth go to his head and instead helps the local mechanic, a grizzled old fellow called Cedric(who rips off of Final Fantasy Cid). One day a traveling clown called Flotsam brings his circus to town and Max wants to go see the circus, but some brat steals his ticket. He catches the kid and then feels bad and lets the kid have his ticket... only for some Twilight Zone sh** to go down and the kid vanishes without, leaving the ticket behind. This all leads to a conspiracy because Palm Brinks, Max's hometown, is the ONLY town that exists. Unraveling the mystery ends up having Max escape the town through the sewers and meet a princess who explains that the world's future needs to be rebuilt. Yeah, there is time travel in this game and that's all you're getting in terms of spoilers as this game's plot is amazing and I don't want to ruin it for you. EDIT: Oh yeah, this game is developed by Level-5, the same company which created the game whose remaster I am playing later for this event, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. They also helped with the graphics in Dragon Quest VII: Journey of the Cursed King... which was on Playstation-2 but got ported to the Nintendo 3DS. EDIT 2: Okay seriously, the post after mine reminds me to not leave out details like how far I am in this game. I'd say 1/3 of the way through Chapter 3 of 8. (There are seven story chapters in this game and a secret chapter that opens after you beat the final boss of the game which has a bonus dungeon and boss.) I have played this game many times and only got the platinum in it once, on my last account. I really like this game and regret not sticking to my guns and platinuming this game as my next milestone after platinuming the original Dark Cloud, but things happen. For a PS2 port with no extra bells and whistles, this game has aged well. Taking photos and using them as ideas for inventions was a fun scavenger hunt, and it's easy to miss the scoops, and you don't need to get every photo to get Photography Level 8 and the trophy for that, but I did it anyways, even on the final boss of Chapter 8, which wasn't needed. Two scoops are only at the final boss fight and you can't save them as once you defeat the final boss, the game ends, but you can save them to your photo notebook and recover them in an older save. They aren't needed and you'll get the trophy for inventing every item in the game after getting the photo of the mid-boss in Chapter 8(which is a spoiler) as that photo is needed for the ultimate weapons and armor for Steve, the Ridepod, which will be your go-to as he has tons more defense and attack than either Monica or Max even with their ultimate weapons. Over all, this game was fun to grind in and didn't feel grindy, especially when I obtained the Roller Feet and Barrel Cannon for Steve so he could snipe enemies as he roller-skated by them. (There are better options for movement but they are only inventable in later chapters.) I have used a few guides to get me through, and despite having to work on my future house - which I moved my PS4 into after completing this final 3-hour game session) and having to babysit my mom since she was crippled due to having to have foot surgery due to tons of cancerous corns on her feet(don't worry, she now has a boot so she can walk with some difficulty now ) and an annoying little puppy who doesn't know how to get housebroken(but I forgive him as he is a hairy ball of cute]?), I was able to meet my time quotas since the pause screen prevents in-game time(which I use for my sessions to ensure I don't cheat by going AFK for 3 hours and not playing the game ) from advancing. All in all, a fun retro game that I'd recommend to anyone who wants to get into action RPGs but is intimated by Kingdom Hearts or Elden Ring. (And forgiving, for the record, not so much - I stupidly opened a booby trapped chest which exploded and destroyed my Ridepod, then in a later map I ended up getting gang-banged by two enemies and losing Max, forcing me to use the inferior Monica. I promise when I platinum this game I will have to level her weapons, I just want to max out Steve's core for that trophy before I do any serious grinding of Max or Monica's weapons as Chapter 4 and 5 give lots of ABS to level up your weapons.) Next up... A very interesting tactical RPG which goes crazy. After all, the max level of your characters is 999. Popular Post purgta
Game #1 - Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin - Review Stranger of Paradise is an action RPG developed by Team Ninja and published by Square Enix. A lot of us have probably seen news about the game and wonder if it is as insane as it appears to be. From what I have played so far, the answer seems to be yes. I don't normally play a lot of action RPGs, but this game is incredibly fun so far. I don't know how far I am through it but if I had to guess, probably three quarters of the way through. Enemy variety is not huge but they seem to reveal a new enemy type each story mission. You can unlock a lot of typical Final Fantasy jobs to use and can have two active at a time that you can switch with mid battle. Your party start with a single job each but gain a new one every few story missions. Your party can be a bit bland personality wise but it has not taken away from the game. Jack, the main character seems totally insane. All he seems to care about is killing Chaos and stopping people monologuing. You will get far more enjoyment out of the game if you have beaten the first final fantasy. While you can enjoy it without playing the first installment, there are so many references throughout the game. The game is incredibly violent with you being able to finish off enemies similar to the new Doom games or bosses in the first Nier game. There is also blood splatter but I turned it off as soon as I could as I never think it looks good. Your clothes change depending on what you are wearing. This is pretty cool and it also has the option to disable headgear showing. It still shows up if your armour has a hood which can kind of lessen some cutscenes. The game looks nice but the character models can seem a bit off sometimes. The game is broken up into different missions/levels that you can replay whenever you want. The missions are pretty linear but can sometimes seem more open than what they actually are with looping dead ends containing treasure chests. There is an online aspect to it but I have not touched it. I am having a lot of fun with this and will hopefully beat the story in the next few days. I will be playing Last Stop next.
Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 19 Game No. 1 Playing Time: 7 hours Trophies Earned: 2/25 (2% E ranking) Thoughts: The name don’t lie: this is a sim management that is truly at the beginning of civilization. You start the game with a tribe of 7 people that have absolutely nothing. And your job is to get them to survive. To do that, you will task them with a variety of things to do and as you complete those task, you acquire knowledge points to advance your people’s technology. There are three task themes (at least at the start) build, produce, work. Build is exactly that - construct tents, crafting sites, and drying racks. Produce is for making tools, hides and clothes. And work is to send your people on tasks to do around the world. Most of it will be gathering resources that will help your tribe build tools, shelter, clothes and eat. Thankfully, you can set up work orders which will tell your folks to automatically do these tasks until the amount of stuff needed has been filled. So you don’t need to be hands-on with every little thing around the map. There is also hunting, and you can search around the map and pick specific animals to hunt for food and hides. Obviously, going after a wooly mammoth with just bone weapons isn’t a good idea. So at the start, I am picking off smaller fare like ibex and boar. Also, you can deplete an animal resource. So going after old males is wiser than taking out all the females in a herd. The game has a running clock and you can speed up time if you are in a lull, or slow it down (or pause) to concentrate on something. All four seasons are represented, so your big job is to collect, and dry or cure, enough food to get through the winter. Berry picking is easy, but that only occurs during the summer. Your first research should be drying racks, so you can preserve your meat and dry your fish. Which brings up Tech (technology). Your whole point of running around the map is gain knowledge points, which you can spend on the Tech tree. Early tech advances include dog training, weapon making, leather making, etc. This is the main driving force of the game. To do things to gain knowledge, advance your technology, and make life (slightly) easier for your people. Eventually, you will move on to a new age (i.e. Mezolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, etc.). I played for about six hours, and only managed to gain one new age. So this looks like a slow burn type of game. To “win,” this will take many, many hours. Which gets me into the subject of… Trophy Thoughts: This is going to be a cave bear to platinum. No wonder it’s an ultra rare plat at 3%. It looks like most of the trophies are back-loaded, so you will need to spend plenty of hours to get into some of the later ages in the game. You can’t just jump into those, they will need to be unlocked through game play. And then, those trophies look pretty hard. Summary: This is a novel idea for a game, in trying to get your cavemen into an Iron Age society. But it’s going to take a LONG time to get to the later periods. It looks fun on YouTube, where people build stone walls, have blacksmith shops, have stables with horses. Evidently, there is warfare, s o you will need to defend your village. But to get there might be too much. It just seems like there’s lot’s of small achievements to go for, but it’s missing a grand achievement to go after. I’m not really feeling any sense of accomplishment to grind for an hour just to gain one Tech advance. Hell, I’ve been playing for six hours and I haven’t even discovered the joy of bread! We’re still just hunting and gathering. Final Grade: I think it’s close to a . Maybe I just need to advance a few more ages to get into the more complex ages of the game. I will return to this at some point, but I might have a Scarlet E on my profile for awhile.
Popular Post Kevvik
Ok, here we go… Game #1: Spiritfarer This is definitely a gem of a game. The characters are very fleshed out and having now delivered several friends to the Everdoor, I can say each story plays out fully. Alice’s story was very emotional and I’ll leave it at that for the next person playing later in the event. The management never feels like it gets out of hand, though the more spirits you have on the boat, the more work it is. Likewise sheep, who provide wool but will eat your crops if you don’t keep them fed. I’m just starting to try to get chickens. You can keep a couple of rarer ores, wood and rocks on giant turtles (3 of them) so that saves a bit of time as they are fairly easy to reach. More mini games for rare materiel open with each new spirit. There are a lot of things in this game and it keeps you busy but doesn’t feel overwhelming though the spirits are now getting more complicated in advancing their stories and upgrading their houses. I still can’t get through mist yet though once I get a spirit flower after bringing another to the Everdoor, I should be able to unlock that last part (I can pass ice and rocks so far). Most of the skills I have unlocked are for manoeuvring through the environment. I’ll close out here. There is an option for local co-op which comes up at the start which I assume(?) gives the 2nd player control of Daffodil. This doesn’t seem like it would make much difference except during mini-games. This is a great game and deserves a wider audience. This is an indie which puts more charm and personality into a small title than most of the AAA overkill and I’m glad that I came across it. Very highly recommended. Time played: 20 hrs Trophies earned: 25/39, 54%, B rank Score: 9/10 Completion rate: 87.66% (-0.10%, -0.10% for the event) Next up: Game #2 Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story
Taruta13
Just wanted to state that when I said I got all the scoops on Dark Cloud 2, I was talking about my last time I played this on my last account (which is where I got the platinum) as well as the one time I 100% this on the original PS2 hardware as I only on Chapter 3 in my current run. This game is fun if you like Pokemon Snap because you can save your photos to a photo book so you don't have to keep snapping them. (As I said before, most scoops tend to be only available in boss fights so you have to save them to the photo book since several inventions require a one-time-only scoop, for example most of the clown-themed items require Clown Robo's Attack, which is only available when fighting the final boss of Chapter 1, and if you didn't take that scoop and save it, you only get to invent one clown-theme item. Also, the Ridepod has several bodies and weapons that go from Rank 1-4, and to get the Rank 4 Samurai items for Steve... you need to have the scoop you get only from the mid-boss of CHAPTER EIGHT. So if you kill that guy before you snap him, well, you've voided the trophy for obtaining all the inventions, so sucks to be you and have to reload a save or, if you saved after that battle... just sucks to be you. ) Anyways... Preview - Game #2: Disgaea 5 Creator: Nippon Ichi Software Producer: Nippon Ichi Software I've platinumed this game a couple of times before so it's no big deal. I will probably only play 45 minutes a day due to how my PS4 is now set up; I can't see the computer from where it is and I have to use my phone to access the site with the guide. But since I learned that the event requires '3 hours minimum' and not '3 hours a day', I can relax, which is good because if I followed the guide I had called up, I would be able to get the platinum in less than 6 hours. voodoo_eyes
Game #2 - Darksiders III - Preview Developer: THQ Nordic Publisher: THQ Nordic Genre: Action-RPG Price: 39,99€ This is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most from my list. Even though this seems to be the worst reviewed Darksiders game. I boughtall DLC for this game, so I hope it's worth it. I played the first two and enjoyed both, although the combat seemed to be a tad slow/sluggish from what I remember. On a differente note. I decided to swich out Elex II aagain and instead try out Vampire The Masquerade Swansong.
Popular Post serrated-banner9
my ability to browse the forums but not actually play games is astonishing GAME 1 REVIEW time played: 1 hour (yes that kind of not actually playing games but browsing forums) trophies earned: 0/13 Spelunky is a game i think most of us here have heard of. one of the main features of Spelunky is that is procedural generated which means that yes, this one of those games where every run is drastically different one run for instance (you might spawn near a unavoidable arrow trap while another might have a shop right next to the exit there are a lot of items that can be helpful, the only way to get items are f chests (rarely) and from shops and of course shops charge money for stuff so better hope you have been looting those treasure and stuff or you know you could just rob them but if you do be warned that the shopkeeper will try to kill you with a shotgun. robbing them and trying to get away is somehow my favourite thing to do for some reason spelunky is a very hard game, evident by the fact i couldn't even get past the mines (the first level of the game) but it is a fun one so if you ever want to buy it, know you got a procedural generated game that still holds up today GAME 2 PREVIEW i bought this from symths toys for £7, let's hope it's good
Popular Post Phantochi
GAME #02 - GTA Vice City Definitive Edition - Final Impressions I'm liking it for the most part, i mean it's GTA Vice City after all, but the game now has this weird empty feel to it, like the city itself feels way less lively than it did on the ps2. There's too much weird shit going on with the visuals, like all cars look like they are on a high suspension because the wheels look too big, some areas are extensively rich in detail and others feel unfinished, and some vehicles and other areas looks like there's a candy-coated feel and that makes it look weirdly cartoonish and surreal. This graphic rendering itself make the roads and lots of other things just look too plain, emphasing the emptyness in the city. And i really don't like the new menu at all. The modern controls are tolerable, it might turn some people off but i personally find nothing wrong with the controls. The shooting might be a little awkward at first for old time players. It has been altered from what you might remember in the original Vice City. Driving is a little weird, feels like you're playing a drift event in a racing game, cars are not as responsive as i remember. The boats are even worse. The boat controls are easily my biggest complaint about this game, it is bad. Luckily you only have a few missions that deal with the water, and a few collectibles. There's some new stuff in here, and in GTA 3 an SA i'm assuming, like the weapon wheel that originally was not in GTA Vice City, and this also goes for the new radio station wheel. There's also a brand new Mission Retry system, so if you fail a mission or die during it, the game will prompt you to retry from the beginning of the mission again, unlike the original Vice City which forces you to run back to the mission start or take a cab. There's a brand new GPS that was also not originally part of the driving features and is a welcomed addition to the gameplay. tl;dr You have to play this game with an open mind. There are so much new stuff to enjoy in Vice City, new street races, stadium races, stunts, collectibles, the characters are great and have so much personality, the humour is still great, the radio has one of the best soundtracks in gaming history, and the game also draws some obvious influence from Scarface, which is a plus for me, but as a remaster, remake, definitive edition or whatever they want to call this, it is very disappointing. Time Played: ~12 hours Trophies Earned: 9 of 34 (14%) Completion Percentage: 69.38% (- 0.12%) Next Up: Resonance Of Fate Some years ago i bought Resonance of Fate for the PS3, it was dirt cheap and It looked very interesting, it is a hybrid turn-based RPG developed by tri-Ace, the same company behind Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, and the Lightning saga in Final Fantasy. So, i've had this game in the back of my mind for a couple years now. Gameplay is king for me when it comes to RPG/JRPG, even more important than story, and the main thing i heard about this game is that the combat system is a mixture of inventive, confusing, and difficult, can't really tell if that's good or not haha. 2 hours ago, voodoo_eyes said: Game #2 - Darksiders III - Preview It's a decent game, totally different from part 1 & 2, the game is more like a metroidvania adventure game with more emphasis on exploration, performance on ps4 pro was horrible though, hopefully you'll have a better experience playing on the ps5.

So far it's running smoothly. There is the odd graphics glitch though, when turning there sometimes are suddenly textures missing which then is replaced by a blue spot. No idea, if that was also a thing on the ps4 though. Edited November 7, 2022 by voodoo_eyes
Arctic Cress
After thinking about it, the Leap Frog event over at TrueTrophies is taking too much of my gaming focus and I probably won't be able to fit KYC into this as well, so I am dropping out of this event. I will keep tabs on the topic and read everyone's reviews as they come in though!
Popular Post Psy-Tychist
Abzu - The Underwater Journey Simulator Trophies Earned: 9/12 - 50% Completion Percentage: 70.54% - no change Personal Arbitrary Rating: 6/10 Fish Ridden: 9 Abzu (u with the funny little hat on it) is said to be by many, the spiritual successor to Journey. The reason for that is that the creative director, musical director and lead designer from Journey worked on this game. Giant Squid studios has made two games so far, Abzu and the more recent game The Pathless and both have very similar graphical styles. Both games have a very minimalist style, similar to Zelda's Wind Waker or possibly Cel Damage without the edginess. From the beginning, you are greeted with a beautiful cinematic ending with diving into the water and meeting your avatar; which happens to be what looks like a diver. The opening areas are full of life, fish swimming in and around the environment in small shoals. Throughout the game, there are shark statues which act somewhat like checkpoints, but all they really do is allow your diver to sit and meditate on top of the statue and you can switch between the fish that are in the scene. This is needed for the first trophy I received (Food Chain) which requires you to watch the circle of life occur. Other than that, it mirrors Journey in that you can meditate and view your surroundings. As you progress through the low reefs, you find a metallic structure with no fish or plant life around. Entering the aperture will transport you to a ghostly monument area with four pillars. You activate a pillar by touching a blue glowing orb and life and a specific fish creature bursts forth, in this case it was a Manta Ray. This becomes the 'goal' as it is, as you reach newer environs with different species (dolphins and tropical fish, deep sea creatures, whales and even extinct species such as the plesiosaurus. All animals are non-threatening, even the sharks so the only threat in the game comes from these pyramidal 'bombs' which electrocute the diver if you are too close. Unlike Journey though, rather than having a reason to avoid them (losing your scarf pieces limits movement) all they do is disable you for a couple of seconds with no drawback. Eventually you will befriend the 'spirit' of a Great White Shark (getting Connection in the process) and speed through mini-environs of what you've seen so far until you find the 'heart' of the pyramidal bombs and Spoiler for some reason you need to blow it up. The games ends at this point and a credit scene shows up which has a collectible in it and you can just mingle around with your shark friend until the names stop scrolling. Abzu is a strange animal in that there would seem to be so much going for it, especially from a personal standpoint. I loved Journey, I have completed both PS3 and PS4 versions, have travelled with dozens of other players and reached the summit at least a dozen times. Never throughout the game did I look back and say that I was bored or annoyed with any of the trophy aspects, nor with the gameplay. I wanted everyone I met to succeed, I wanted everyone I joined with to get the most out of the experience. Abzu, doesn't make me feel that. It is a very beautiful game and Austin Wintory has done an excellent score to give you the ambience you need for being underwater or being threatened, but it feels watered down (excuse the pun). The gameplay has no real goal, the collectibles that are in the game don't seem to offer anything at all for replay-ability and the ability to ride fish is just a very meh concept. Graphically, it is beautiful, but Journey came out in 2012 and looks more impressive than Abzu does which came out in 2016, which generally doesn't make sense to me. Trophy-wise, the game is very easy when it comes to trophies. None are missable and you can get at least half of them by just experimenting in the game. The longest draw will be collectibles which amounts to Nautilus shells, Shark statues and Hidden pools of fish. Unless you remember everything you have completed expect to backtrack through every chapter to check even the ones you already have collected. Personally, this is more of a disappointment than anything else. I feel like I'm comparing too much with Journey, but it is hard not to when the staff is basically the same and the gameplay has only changed from on land to underwater. If anyone has never played Journey and comes to Abzu first, they may be pleasantly surprised by the design elements and the calming gameplay. If you have played Journey and enjoyed it before coming to Abzu, I feel that you will be disappointed, but may not be able to put your finger on why. I think what was missing was connection and that would have made the experience much more enjoyable if you had the opportunity to meet other divers out in the deep blue sea. Up Next: Children of Morta Completely agree with your assessment of Abzu, and how underwhelming it was compared to Journey. If you are looking for an artistic game that includes a great soundtrack, I’d recommend Rime. The gameplay is similar with running around fascinating imaginary worlds, but the story is more meaningful in Rime, compared to Abzu. There is a bit more of a collectible chore in Rime, but it’s not a grind.
Popular Post dmland12
Game #2: Red Dead Redemption 2 Trophies Earned: 7 of 52 (10%) Completion: 96.22% (-0.43%, -0.78% overall) I didn't play much of the story so I really can't get into what that's like. The beginning does a fine job of introducing you to the characters and the controls and has you doing a few different missions of various sorts. But, after playing the first chapter, which is pretty much on-the-rails, I wanted to try some free roam. The story did open up at the beginning of chapter 2, so I could have done it there probably. But I wanted to try the online free-roam and ended up spending the rest of my time with the game there. The online started with creating a rather ugly scraggly looking character. I mean, you could probably make someone kind of decent looking in the character creator if you really tried, but that's not really much fun. I hit the randomize button a few times until I found someone that looked the part -- bald but also very hairy in the sides and back of the head and face. And of course ugly. I tweaked the appearance a bit, decided on some starting clothing options and... had to do a couple intro missions before I could get to free roam. Having just done the tutorial in story mode, I didn't really learn much of anything, but at least it didn't take too long. I really liked the online free roam overall once I got into it. The world seems fairly large, but small enough that it's still possible to get around on horseback in a decent amount of time. The other players I came across mainly fell into three different playstyles. There's the ones that are doing their own thing: missions, hunting, fishing, whatever. That was probably most of the people and you usually didn't see them since the game hides your location a lot of the time. But if you did get close enough to them to see you, they'd generally move away. Then there's a few that are making a lot of noise and generally making the npcs' life hell. I saw one player shooting at a bunch of wild horses and later another shooting up a town. They generally don't seem to pay much attention to anyone else. And of course there's the player killers or griefers or whatever you want to call them. They'll put a bullet in your head if they can, and since they're looking for it and you're not you might not even know they're there until they do. Though I can confirm that there's no real penalty from dying to one of them. I only came across two such players and both times it was near one of the towns. I know some people probably don't like dying, but it does add some suspense to the game, especially when you're heading into town or come across another player. Overall it looks like the online is a money/xp grinder. Just about anything you could want: new guns, new clothes, camp upgrades etc costs a lot of money. A lot of it is also locked from purchase before you get to a higher level. There's missions you can take on from various npcs that are marked on the map which will reward you with money, and you can also make money from the land by hunting animals and selling their hides/meat/carcass (and after you level up enough fishing becomes an option too). As such I didn't get too far into it, but I did some exploring, hunting, and free-roam missions. I also did a horse race series (even though my horse isn't very good). Right now I have enough money for it, but I just need a little more xp to get to lvl 10 so I can get a bow which will make the hunting easier (no more scaring all the animals off and also alerting all nearby players to my location!). Then, there will be something else to grind for. That's how games like that get you. ? Looking forward to picking up the grind sometime and also getting into the story more, but now it's time for another game. Game #3 Preview Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom I'm going in pretty blind on this one. All I know is that this is some kind of an RPG that seemed interesting to me when I bought it. Guess I'll find out if I was right. Edited November 8, 2022 by dmland12
Popular Post Kevvik
And on we go… Game #2: Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story Early Impressions Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is a bit of a hybrid of a hack’n’slash RPG with a city building sim. You take on the role of the new principal of a military academy. The game world has 5 queendoms, with another queen ruling over those. What little there is of a story has the High Queen dying which leads to the other queens each trying to become the new High Queen. There is no direct conflict as yet but each queendom will offer you quests you can do which will show that the Institute that you are in charge of supports them more than the others, though I haven’t seen any direct stat for this. In the background is the Cult of the Wicker Princess who apparently want to take the old High Queen’s body to become host for the Wicker Princess (whatever that is). If the story seems pretty thin, that’s because it is. Your gameplay involves taking new students, guiding them through the apprentice trade and then differentiating them between Knights, Magi and Scouts once they reach level 10. Or you can graduate them and get gold and fame. Fame is sort of XP for the school. As you reach different amounts, the school rank goes up, unlocking access to more buildings/rooms and the ability to upgrade old ones. Each room or building gives stat boosts (XP, physical stats, drop rates, battle boosts) for your party that is out on quests. You also get students with higher level caps (starting at 10 and going up 5 with each rank). There are story quests, hunts and errands. You have direct control of your party of up to 4 students on the first 2 but for errands, they go off by themselves for a set period of time and come back at the end of that, either successes or failures, whatever the game decides. This part is a bit frustrating as the quests are measured in weeks. When doing the quest, time goes by quickly. If you mistakenly sent your 3 possible parties all on errands, time at the school takes forever to get through this unless you want to bring a party back early, cancelling the quest. I won’t be doing that again as a week by yourself, doing the occasional click on a slim selection of events behind the scenes is enough to make you want to pull your hair out, especially when errands later in the game can be 8-10 weeks long. This would be okay if there was any way to speed up time but there isn’t. I’ve taken to sending 1-2 parties out on errands, keeping the third party there and doing short little arena training quests which take a week to complete (really about 2 minutes) but doing these over and over is almost as tedious, especially when your party comes back from an 8 week quest and fail it, giving you no benefit whatsoever for the spent time. Graduations happen every few months and as soon as you click a student to graduate they are no longer available for anything. The rest of the game is about what you would think, an armoury to make weapons and accessories if you have the right materials, a travelling merchant, kitting out each student, etc. Combat is pretty basic and nothing special. A deeper combat system would make this much more interesting though you can switch which student you control on the fly to use special skills when you want to use them rather than when the mediocre AI decides to. So far, I’m not really impressed with this. It’s fairly simplistic with virtually no story which is usually what keeps me engaged. We’ll see if a few more days change that opinion. Time played: 9 hrs Trophies earned: 13/30, 20% for D rank Score so far: 4/10
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Game #2 - Darksiders III - Final Impressions Time played: 15h (- around an hour or two for cat snuggling) Trophies earned: 26/64 Initially I didn't get into this game all that much. It seemed poorly balanced, with enemies hitting like a truck and the frist few checkpoints being a bit too far away from eachother. It grew on me though, once I got used to the mechanics, the dodging etc. The boss fights are still a bit of a pain occasionally, but the checkpoints tend to be closer and areas a bit more condensed, so the backtracking isn't too bad. Speaking of backtracking, there's a lot due to how progression works. You gradually unlock different forms, which allow you to do certain actions and thus unlock new areas with loot. The fast travelling helps immensely with all of that. Each form also has it's own weapon and attack, that can be upgraded and enhanced. Enemies give you "souls", which are used to level up, and the loot consists mostly of upgrade materials and items that give you souls. There are some puzzles like in the previous Darksiders games, mostly environmental stuff, consisting of moving something or using a throwing weapon that gets unlocked about halfway through the game. One of the DLCs is a labyrinth-style area with some more annoying puzzles and far less interesting than the base game. It unlocks new weapons though, when you beat a boss. Visually it's solid, the cutscenes are a bit on the cartoonish side and sometimes look a bit off. The graphics bug disappeared for a while, and only showed up very rarrely. Sound-wise it's pretty good and the voice acting is good as well. I've now beaten 4 of the 7 Deadly Sins and have found it difficult to put the game down as I've been having a blast with it. It's time to move on to something different tomorrow though. As it stands this is an 8.5/10 for me. It's my favourite game of the series so far. Popular Post Taruta13
Ugh, you don't realize how long it took me to roll over the day so I could get this out in decent time. Anyways... Game #2: Disgaea 5 Final Review Time Played: Around 15 hoursTrophies Earned: 39 / 51 (62%) Unearned Trophies: 178New Completion: 94.20% If you are surprised that I got so many trophies, don't be - most of the trophies are front-loaded into the main story which I managed to finish with the help of Green Z-Saber's guide, which he uses to speedrun the platinum trophy % of this game. He's got the World Record of under 4.5 hours from 0% trophies to 100%. I managed to not only enter the post-game but also unlock the Carnage Dimension and have started to prep for exploring it and defeating Carnage Dark, which requires you to do a bunch of Carnage Dimension stages that are brutal if you don't have at least 10 million in your stats. X_X That shows how easy this game is. I should start with the story and developer, but Nippon Ichi Software's Disgaea series is well known. I got into the series when I rented a copy of Disgaea 2 from Blockbusters(remember that cra**y video store? ) and fell in love with the crazy story. Then I went crazy over Disgaea 3 and that's what got me into trophy hunting Disgaea games. However, to get the platinum in these games back then was nigh impossible due to Disgaea's insane mechanics for gaining power and the uber-high power levels. (Your max level is 9999 until Disgaea 6 made it 99,999,999!) But Disgaea 5 has a ton of quality of life features and the Revenge Mode and Overloads, and a little bunny girl called Usalia has the most broken Overload in the game, making her nuke the screen to one-shot almost any enemy under her level. Green Z-Saber has sped through this game so many times he's even gotten on the local speedrun communities for it. And don't think you can escape trophies if you play it on Nintendo's device as the Switch brought over the trophies(although you get them from an NPC this time). I have yet to complete all of the post-game stuff but I really enjoyed it when I could pull myself away from the computer to play it. Once you get the power to nuke everyone, the game goes by very fast. Next up... UGH. What did I get myself into?! Game #3: LEGO Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga (PS4 version) Preview Putting this out the day before I start, but this is the only game I have not actually played in one form or another, mainly because it just came out a few months ago. I had played the PS4 version of LEGO The Force Awakens and didn't mind it, but the only Star Wars movies I ever watched were, like most kids around 1997, the original trilogy. I know who Luke Skywalker is and the Empire, but never watched the three prequels, which is why the LEGO Force Awakens didn't appeal to me. I will probably be binging the story mode to see what I missed. Edited November 10, 2022 by Taruta13
Popular Post Phantochi
GAME #03 - Resonance Of Fate - Final Impressions I really enjoyed this one, especially with how adventurous and even risk taking tri-ace were with core mechanics. An innovative battle system, interesting exploration system that requires certain tiles/drop and provides certain rewards and bonuses as you build/explore, the plot that slowly and cryptically expands on the world and characters in episodic fashion, and it's a pretty damn good looking game, the world sets into class-based society with a combination of Steampunk and Neo-Victorian influences, from luxury manor on the top to a lower city made by scraps and rusty gear. The plot is more of a "slice of life" about three bounty hunters and building atmosphere through their interactions than your typical JRPG story. The storytelling style is unique and it's probably the only game where i really like that it is in a chapter format, and it's truly designed with that in mind, so don't go expecting a Final Fantasy type of grand story about chasing the big bad wolf to save the world. The story is mostly about small and precise events, the main characters, and the world. So far, the plot has some intriguing plot elements about purpose and worthlessness, and some darker aspects like suicide and mass killing are also touched upon. It got a very melancholic but also a heartfelt feel, driven by great characters. Speaking of which, the interactions between the main characters and the eccentric citizens of the world are great, reminds me a lot of FF15, there's a great sense of humour between the main characters, but at the same time, you can feel a darker aspect of the overall story lurking around them. The gameplay at the beginning is hard, like very very hard. Doing all the tutorial battles will help in getting a grasp of things. Basically there are weapons that do scratch damage and weapons that deal direct damage, and to deal any real damage you will have to scratch first and then follow up with the direct damage keeping in mind that scratch damage wears off over time. Mostly it boils down to: do scratch damage with machine guns and follow this by doing direct damage and breaking body parts with handguns. It is weird and strange at first but once you get the hang of it you’ll enjoy rushing around the battlefield picking out enemies and setting up special attacks while making sure you don’t even get a hit. Oh, and there's an insane gun customization that gets very addicting once you get far enough. Something that i don't like is that the game doesn't encourage you to experiment. There aren't save points anywhere but in the town/world map, so experimenting could lead to replaying a lot. At first i did experiment on bosses a bit, and i got really sick of replaying areas because dungeons don't offer save points, so if you die, just git gud and replay the entire dungeon. tl;dr if you like JRPG's it's worth a shot. The voice acting is on-point, the main characters are quite likable, and the gameplay is something no other game has replicated. Time Played: ~15 hours Trophy Progress: 6 of 49 for E rank Next Up: My Friend Pedro This is the first game developed by DeadToast, and it's published by Devolver, and they definitely have an eye for weird indie games, they have published some of my favorites, like Enter The Gungeon, Hotline Miami, Titan Souls, Not A Hero, Death's Door, and judging by the cover art and some videos that i saw, i'm expecting this to be as crazy as some of Devolver older titles.
