Platinum Difficulty Challenge 2023

Only a short Update from my side.

 

I finished in trackmania black series Canyon with Gold medals in all tracks but to be honest the 170 track was by far the hardest for me so far. Those Loopings can go to hell in the end of the track, took me over the days nearly 6-7 hours. In addition i started track 180 since it should be the hardest track and i got really lucky with that track, after 4 hours i was able to achieve the exact same time as the Gold medal and even got for this the Gold medal. Not sure if the rest will be now easy but i have high hopes, that the rest is a bit more reasonable then those 2 tracks.

Maquette complete. Enjoyable little puzzle game that I would highly recommend to anyone. Hollow Knight should be coming soon. I had a heartbreaking Pantheon 5 loss on the climb to ARs final phase the other week. Just got to buckle down and get that shit done.

A couple more games completed and I now qualify for the bronze tier with 5 badges outlined in the spoiler tag, I've also swapped Bleed out for Jump King as my 10/10.

 

I started playing Demon's souls over a decade ago and could never get past the Tower Knight and without this challenge probably wouldn't have played the remake at all. Boy am I glad I did though, this game was a blast for my first soulsbourne game. Every time I'd get stuck on something challenging it never felt unfair which can be a tough balance to get right, even the trophies for this game never overstayed their welcome. Ultimately my favourite game so far this year edging out Thief and I'll be going back to the PS3 version later to play it again.

 

Completing Catherine: Full body really is a tale of two halves (maybe thirds with one of the challenges being a bit different and some people will like it and some won't).  I'll start with the good which was the story, it's not some super deep story you'll ponder for weeks but it is a lot of fun and all the different endings are mostly ridiculous but still entertaining in its own way. The core gameplay is really enjoyable and can really get you thinking of all the different ways you can make a level work and builds to the harder levels in a satisfying way throughout. Unfortunately once you beat the story and get some of the endings comes the bad part of completing the game, some of  the trophies being a boring grind that you have to still focus on. To complete this you have to get a gold trophy on every stage on all 6 difficulties, although the levels change slightly between each one they are mostly the same and focus on similar skills with tight restrictions on how many points you can lose. You also need to get through 128 levels of the same kind of puzzles except on an arcade machine and somehow it loses the fun that the main game has which really drags down the fun the game had before going for trophies. Last we have the Babel stages which I enjoyed but can be a frustrating last hurdle to the platinum for some, it greatly increases the difficulty and makes the levels have random elements so you can't follow a guide like the rest of the game but you feel accomplished once you finally find your way through the stages. Catherine overall is a great game to experience and see some of the endings, I'm glad I made it's platinum my 10,00th trophy but if you want to complete it the last 20 hours can really drag on.

Close to done with my Hollow Knight platinum and I'm pretty happy with how fast the run turned out. All in all, I'm sitting at around 26 hours total and the only thing left to do is the Pantheon of Hallownest. Gave it five tries so far and made it very far in all of them (Absolute Radiance killed me in the latest one) so now it's just a matter of practicing the bosses a bit.

 

Compared to the first time I played HK years ago, this has gone really smoothly and it looks as though my dormant muscle memory is kicking in for most of the boss patterns, which is a genuinely awesome feeling. I'm hoping to pull off a successful PoH attempt and be done with the game by tomorrow, but if it takes a bit longer that's fine too.

I'm back with a few updates to my list! First off I finished DDLC+ and 3D Dot Game Heroes to bring me up to 5 games completed. DDLC+ is certainly an experience and 3D Dot Game Heroes is almost literally a Zelda game.

 

Next, I'm shifting around some games in the 4-6 range, with Katamari Forever at 4/10 per PSNP, Unravel Two at 5/10 per PST, and Ziggurat at 6/10 also per PST. The Unravel Two ranking is a bit funny since I see it at 8/10 most places, but hey I needed to do a U ultra rare and that rating just happened to line up with the list.

 

Almost at that bronze rank. I still need to actually acquire Exist Archive and Katamari Forever too...

Congrats on completing the Canyon Black Series! 4 hours to get gold on Track 180 is pretty impressive imo compared to the 15 hours, if I remember correctly, that it took me. Your last big hurdle will probably be Track 190 (and probably the biggest hurdle in Lagoon) since the stadium tracks will be much easier to do. Good luck on the rest of the trophies ?

Finally completed my first game from the list and starting off with the 10/10 game, Lord of Apocalypse. This also earns me the Above and Beyond badge.

Now this game is a bit hard to rate. The actual game difficulty is nowhere near a 10/10. Only a few quests in the last chapter have hard bosses, but it's manageable with good equipment. There are many other mostly things that makes this plat annoying and grindy:

• Ad-hoc trophy requiring a second Vita and second copy of the game: Check
• Maxing out all weapon classes, including ones you'd never touch otherwise: Check
• Defeating 10k enemies: Check
• S-Ranking quests which is purely based on speed: Check
• Farming vasrious kind of materials for forging weapon and equipment: Check
• RNG trophy: Check
• Performing 1,000 perfect guards: Check
• Consuming 1,000 healing items: Check
• Fleeing 100 times from battles, because would you do that normally: Check
• Level 200 trophy which requires 13.4 million EXP when you have about 6 million after getting every other trophy: Check

What makes things worse is that there are no ingame trackers besides quest ranks, level and amount of defeated enemies. You can be close to acquiring a trophy, but you just don't know. Just keep on grinding. This is the reason why I'd say the 10/10 is fair.

Despite all that, I enjoyed the game a lot. Only some of the endgame grind is one of the worst grinds I've ever done.

Thanks! I guess i just got lucky since i really have the exact same time as the Gold, a bit more off and it only would be Silver with milliseconds to slow haha. The last track in Canyon took me way more time with 8hours or so.

Aaand that's Hollow Knight done and over with. I actually recorded the successful PoH run for posterity - it's a shame I was so tilted after dying three times at AR's final phase, because my gameplay here lacks any sort of finesse. But it's done!

 

 

Overall it was a joy to revisit Hollow Knight on PS, this will probably always be one of my favorite metroidvania ever. Please give me Silksong soon, thanks.

Hi, all! I know it's been a long time since I've updated. But, after some serious thinking on my part, I've decided to put my original Minesweeper List on hold and finish it as my third list of the year, as I'm coming across too many games that I want to play between shutdowns and de-listings that keep getting announced for games that were / are in my backlog (looking at you Hitman 1 & 2 as well as Knockout City). I did plan an Ultra-Rare List that I will do before the Minesweeper to hopefully make sure I don't run into badge issues. But, we'll have to see. I also pre-ordered Theathrythm: Final Bar Line and am really excited to play that, as some of my first meaningful gaming memories are with the Final Fantasy series, and rhythm games are some of my favorites. (Seriously, I was even contemplating making a list packed with as many Final Fantasy games as I could. I may still do that...) So, I'm just gonna go with my gaming flow for right now, and see where everything takes me.

 

Of the two games completed on my new list, they're both not really anything to write home about. Both, from a story perspective, were riddled with cliches, and world-building that just fell flat. Though, I will say, both games attempted to have female MCs that had some agency and didn't play the damsel-in-distress all the time. But, hey, while they weren't the greatest narrative-wise, the games were sitting in my backlog, and also worked for other challenges here on PSNP. So, it all worked out in the end.

Good news, i've completed the next game for this challenge World War Z got a ps5 release just a few days ago and after transfering my save from ps4 to ps5 i got a huge amount of progress towards some very grindy trophies. I've played the game a lot last week but according to my ps5 it was just 5 hours it was more like 40 hours...

 

Apparently Fall Guys doesn't auto-pop all trophies since the ps5 version was released so i am in trouble. I included Fall Guys only cuz of auto-pop but now i have a workaround. WWZ was a free ps5 version that fits the spot Hollow Knight moves up to #9 and it doesn't change anything on the challenges

Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight done. After thinking about it for a bit I think Persona 4 is my favorite of all the Persona dancing games. Never More still brings a tear to my eye. Putting Dragon Ball FighterZ as my 8/10.
