Guide of the Year Awards 2022 - Results!

Absolutely massive year for guides with so many bangers & so many absolutely fantastic writers that honestly don't get enough recognition for their amazing work. So just like last year, I'd like to individually congratulate all this years winners! (This took way longer than I'd like to admit)

First off, I'd like to start off with a massive massive congratulations to the guide team, @Dreggit, @Charizarzar, @Roronora_Zoro666, & @Vanqishd for absolutely CRUSHING 2022 by publishing 658 guides and breaking nearly every publication record to date. Without their dedication who knows where we'd be in terms of guides? So an absolute massive congratulations and thank from myself and all guide writers alike for the amazing work you do.

@CelestialRequiem First off, absolutely HUUUGE congratulations for winning GOTY this year with Sol Cresta & 3rd in Exception Trophy Guide. It was an absolutely fantastic guide for a game I have absolutely never heard of until the day you started talking about it in the discord. You "General Game Information" section is absolutely perfection, going over so many details and in such a good way too. The custom videos are extremely well done & all the praise you've gotten for this guide, including with GOTY are absolutely well deserved. I know how much time, pain, and glitches you went through for this guide from the discord, but watching the progress from there was an absolute treat. Lets hop for a sequel, so maybe we can see another fantastic Sol Cresta guide from you!

 

@Argandalf A massive congratulations for placing 2nd for GOTY and 1st for Exceptional Gameplay Guide with the Sekiro 100% Walkthrough. The amount of detail, the formatting, the raw information this guide contains is outstanding. It looks absolutely beautiful & is also extremely helpful. It's very difficult to put into words how great of a guide it is. You've not been a writer for very long, but you've come so far & over taken so many other writers in such a short amount of time. Absolutely fantastic work and I really am looking forward to see more guides in the future, possibly even in GOTY 2023!

 

@MohandGamer7 & @Charizarzar A massive congratulations for placing 3rd for GOTY and 2nd for Exceptional Trophy Guide. What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL guide. I love some of the formatting so much, I even stole a bit of it for my Callisto Protocol guide. So much information packed into the guide that some would deem unnecessary because the game is very straight forward, but there is never such thing as too much information. I absolutely love the use of the images in this guide even with so many images/text, it's still very easy to follow since it's formatted so brilliantly. And also while I have you here, @MohandGamer7, another massive congratulations for placing 1st for Exceptional DLC Guide with the Cuphead DLC. Another beautifully formatted guide with great use of images as well. The custom videos are also a cherry on top for it all. DLC guides are usually pretty difficult to make into a beefy/good looking guide simply due to the lack of content since they're short. Even though this DLC seems short with an average completion time of 10 hours, you still manage to absolutely pack it with information & make it look fantastic all the while.

 

@ZOLANTON A massive congratulations for placing 1st for Exceptional Trophy Guide with Elden Ring. Elden Ring was easily my favorite game that came out in 2022 and my god did you give that game justice with your guide. The amount of detail you go into is just down right insane, even having custom little maps in the road map to show points of interest that you'll need to visit for the platinum. Even breaking down the classes you get to choose from. Not to mention breaking down all the bosses to walk you through them to make them as easy as they can possibly be. Absolutely beautiful guide for an absolutely beautiful game. Never got to use the guide sadly since I already had the game finished by the time it was published, but I'll be using it for sure when I need refreshers on the PS4 stack.

 

@Optinooby A massive congratulations for placing 2nd in Exceptional Gameplay Guide with the Elden Ring Platinum Walkthrough. What an absolutely fantastic guide. I can't even begin to imagine how long it took to write this BEAST of a guide. Absolutely love the pacing of the guide and just how much information you can pack into it while still being extremely easy to follow along with. I love the use of the maps to label where the objectives are taking place so the players don't get as lost. I also love all the custom banners used for the sections of the guide, which was a very nice touch.

 

@The_Kopite A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in Exceptional Gameplay Guide with the Final Fantasy 10 Supplement Guide. A fantastic guide for a fantastic game. The guide honestly reminds me of those old school game guide books you'd get at the game stores back in day, which I absolutely love. The detail you go into is amazing and I quite like the different formatting approaches used throughout the guide. However the best thing about the guide, the use of Tidus's amazing laugh right at the start. HA HA HA

 

@BalefulFrog A massive congratulations for placing 2nd in Exceptional DLC Guide with The Binding of Isaac. Another example of a lot of attention and detail in a DLC guide. I don't know a lot about The Binding of Isaac, but what I do know is that it's a hard game with a lot of RNG involved, so sitting down and taking the time to write this beast deserves a congratulations of its own. I love the formatting and use of images (especially for the Jacob & Esau trophy).

 

@angelbless45 A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in Exceptional DLC Guide with Resident Evil 8 and 1st in Retro Enthusiast with Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. We'll start with the Shadow of Rose DLC. I was really looking forward for this to come out as I love your survival horror guides as they always have so much detail and great formatting, and this is no exception. The formatting is absolutely stunning and I would have to say one of my personal favorites that you've done. As for Castlevania, this ain't no sleeper either. You could pretty much just reread my previous comments as it still pretty much applies here as well. The use of images are beautiful and I love the formatting used. The information it's conveying to you so great, while also not being over bearing either. Absolutely lovely guides!

 

@Septomor & @OFFICER_OILDAB A massive congratulations for placing 1st in New Authors Excellence with Cult of the Lamb, What a great looking guide packed with loads of information. Love the use of images in the formatting to explain what things are in the guide instead of just listing the names as it is always a nice touch. This guide is easily of a way higher quality and better looking than anything I have published within my first year, so a highly deserved win!

 

@Kramers001 A massive congratulations for tying for 2nd in New Authors Excellence with Doom 2. What a great guide. I love the break downs you do throughout the guide for the enemies, items/weapons, and level break downs for what to expect. Doom 2 is not an easy game to platinum, that is for sure. However with your guide it can make it just a bit easier with just how well done it is and how good the information contained in it is.

 

@Lewis_Y123 A massive congratulations for tying for 2nd in New Authors Excellence with Dying Light 2. I really love your use of images in this guide in order to give some more context clue to some people who might need more help with the explanation. The guide is very well written with really great formatting. Nothing is too overbearing but still keeps all the needed information so you aren't unsure of what you need to be doing, which is my favorite type of guide.

 

@hishomie1 A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in New Authors Excellence with Vermintide 2. What an absolutely beautifully detailed guide. The breakdowns of the enemies and how best to deal with them, I always love to see stuff like that. The guide is packed with extremely helpful information which is formatted nicely in order to keep it flowing well. The guide is very well done and while I'll probably never play the game, your guide gave me a very good glimpse into it!

 

@Darumacho A massive congratulations for placing 2nd in Retro Enthusiast with Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. What a fantastic guide. I absolutely love the formatting for it and the way you explain things to make it easier for even someone like me who hasn't even played the game before, to still be able to understand to some degree what is going on and what needs to be done. It was an enjoyable read for sure! Also, just a heads up. All videos you used by the channel "Ryuujin XXLongShen" are no longer available as the channel has now been deleted.

 

@JFwibbles A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in Retro Enthusiast with Earth Defense Force 2. The amount of detail to unpack from this guide is godly. From listing all the weapons to your break downs for a lot of the trophies going what what needs to be done. There is a lot of great information packed into the guide which is told in a way that isn't overbearing to the point it all starts to blend together.

 

@UnhallowedBlood A massive congratulations for placing 1st in Exceptional Guides with Original Content with Devil May Cry 4 Bloody Palace Guide. What an amazingly detailed guide. You did such a fantastic job explaining everything, showcasing everything, and formatting everything in this guide. It's such a stunning guide with loads of extremely well written descriptions of stuff like the enemies and the actual stages itself.

 

@CountKarloff A massive congratulations for placing 2nd in Exceptional Guides with Original Content with the Borderlands 3 Loot Maps. I absolutely love the idea behind loot maps and this one is also extremely well done. The maps are extremely easy to follow and I love that you not only go over base game loot maps, but DLC loot maps as well.

 

@Ric A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in Exceptional Guides with Original Content with Iconoclasts. The images used for the maps and the banners are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and extremely well done. The written descriptions for them are also extremely well done and easy to follow along with, even as someone who hasn't touched the game in his life.

 

@SquidGeneral10 & @Uzi_wad A massive congratulations for placing 1st in Exceptional use of Formatting with Spelunky. I want to start with the fact that the images used in the guide are absolutely CRISP. They look extremely good and the way that they're used throughout the guide is fantastic. I love absolutely everything about this guide that if I started listing everything, it'd be quite the description, so well just say the guide is absolutely fantastic in every way!

 

@Mikel A massive congratulations for placing 2nd in Exceptional use of Formatting with King of Fighters XV. An absolutely beautifully formatted guide. I love the use of the images to better showcase the characters you're referring to for the people that might not know who is who based off just name alone. I also really like that you go over what every button does since it's a fighting game and for people like me who are absolutely clueless when it comes to fighting games, is extremely helpful.

 

@AihaLoveleaf A massive congratulations for placing 3rd in Exceptional use of Formatting with DragonFang Z. I love the amount of detail you went into for the game and really nice use of the images throughout the guide is also an extremely nice touch to it. You explain things in an easy to follow manner, which is especially good for people who have no idea what is really going on, but can still follow along.

 

And finally, congratulations to @Meikoro, @NCSFan001, & @speedomer for winning the random $25 draw!

 

I would also like still congratulation every single author, nominated or not, as there were so many great guides through out the year, so every one of you give yourself a big pat on the big for being an absolute beast with these guides. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of guides we can all produce in 2023 and see if we can top 2022, which will be pretty difficult!

Congratulations to all the authors who won GOTY 2022!  What a stand out year for guide writing.  If you were nominated, or one of the rare few winners in this years event, you really showed off some amazing writing skills.  I make it my personal goal to read every guide and comment on each of them and this year was an exceptional year.  There was impressive guides published everyday and it was a privilege and joy to go through each one of them.

 

Special congratulations goes out to the top 3 winners: 

 

1st Place:  Sol Cresta Trophy Guide by @CelestialRequiem.  Amazing guide from start to finish.  I know through the Guide Writer's Discord that this was a long in development guide and it certainly shined when it was finally published.  So happy for you!  This is a well deserved 1st place guide in a sea of amazing guides in 2022.  You earned the top honors, enjoy all the complements coming your way, you earned it!

 

2nd Place: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - 100% Walkthrough by @Argandalf_01.  Your walkthrough is as detailed as any walkthrough could be.  It's amazing the amount of quality (and quantity) content you put out in 2022.  To be able to create these guides that can be used for years to come by new players is remarkable.  It's important for me to mention that beyond the creation of amazing guides, you're one of the most helpful authors in the Guide Writer's Discord as well, which includes offering to help this writer.  Congratulations, your hard work and effort has paid off.  I'm very happy for you!

 

3rd Place: God of War: Ragnarök Trophy Guide by @MohandGamer7 and @Charizarzar.  One of, if not the top, anticipated Playstation game of 2022 is no small feat to exceed player expectations with a top tier guide and you both pulled it off in badass fashion.  This is a guide that says to everyone else that you don't need a second God of War: Ragnarök trophy guide.  This is the one that everyone will use as the benchmark and it's truly one of the best guides out there.  Congratulations and thank you both!

Congratulations to all! I definitely used that Elden Ring trophy guide back in April 2022 to get my first platinum for a Soulsborne game, and when I get God of War: Ragnarok will certainly use that guide as well.
