Plat without paid subscription possible?

10 posts in this topic

Hey guys.

So I've been postponing this game due to it requiring a subscription to get the plat, due to the 1000 Levequests which are time gated .

But I was reading the website and saw something about playing until lvl 60 with no restrictions on playtime. (https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/gb/)

Does it mean I can plat the game without paying for a subscription?

This would probably be an incentive for me to start playing this game.

You can definitely meet all the requirements for the trophies/plat under the free trial, as the trophy list never updated past ARR. The only thing I can't confirm is whether or not trophies will pop while utilizing the free trial. I believe they do on PS5, just not 100% sure for PS4.

Even if they don't, I believe the main game comes with a 30-day subscription (not sure though). Would activating this sub on PS4 be enough to get the trophies if the requirements were already met?

Trophies don't pop with the free demo, you must buy the game, either the base version or the complete edition, in order to pop your trophies.

But what you can do is meet the requirements for each trophies with the free demo, buy the game during sales and then pop them by triggering the different actions required (kill an enemy, clear a FATE, craft an item, and so on...) during the free month that comes with it.

Please note that some of the restrictions from the free demo (not being able to add friends, to join a guild, use the market board and go beyond lv 60) will make the platinum a bit more tedious than it should be if you play the game normally. But it is perfectly doable.

I have a question. If I let my sub expire, will I still be able to stack levequests? I was thinking that I could get most of the trophies in a couple of months then re-sub every 3 months or so, when I get 100 levequests allowences, but I'm not completely sure if it will work.

Yes, this works. You can also try aiming for free-login weekends to come back and use them. For example, there is currently a 4-day free login period that is going on til; May 8th.

Awesome! I already bought the started edition, so I have 30 days to get most of the trophies out of the way. I will probably let the sub expire after this and look out for free weekend logins.

to answer whether or not you could platinum the game on free trial regardless of them popping or not, no. Slay Thy Neighbor requires playing PvP, which requires a paid subscription.

I'm currently doing this strategy of using the free trial first, and here are my thoughts and tips after a month has passed...

- I can confirm that no trophies will ever pop during free trial. Your console won't even acknowledge a trophy list for the game.

- For crafting purposes, you need two things: "ingredients" and crystals. No access to the market board in the free trial means that you can't buy crystals (but apparently they are expensive, anyway), which means that, for the crafting trophies, you'll need to farm the crystals through mining and cutting logs, but since there are trophies for these activities as well, it's actually helpful - although boring.

- The crafting trophies are really, really boring. I mean, the game is meant to be played for months and months, but if you're just trophy hunting and want to be done with it, you'll find them boring. Aside the "ingredients" and crystals farming, you have to sit through the animation of the crafting 1,000 times for each job. It's painful. Mining and logging are boring too, but as I said, they help with the crystals, so... Fishing 1,000 times is also a pain.

- I have reached the level 60 cap with my paladin, and just to clarify it, you can still play normally after reaching level 60, you just can't level up anymore. I also can only hold up to 300,000 gil. No more than that, but I found that money isn't an issue if you keep doing the quests from the main scenario.

- Guildhests and instanced raids are really easy to farm, as you only need 100 of each, but guildhests might test your patience, since you'll have to wait a few minutes each time before the game connects you with other players. As for the instanced raids, you can do the first Ifrit fight once you unlock it during the main scenario quests. By nature, the game sometimes cuts your level down to adjust it to the quest you are playing (in case you are too overpowered), but the game also gives you the option to play raids with your current level (this is called unsyncing) without cutting it down (although you don't get EXP and prizes). I was doing the Ifrit fight (which is a level 20 fight, if I'm not mistaken) solo with my level 60 paladin, and the fight would only last for 50 seconds or so, it's a really fast method to farm the instanced raids.

- Don't worry about the 10,000 enemies killed trophy, just do the other trophies and this one will pop up naturally. 1 month has passed for me and I already have almost 7,500 kills.

- I have done all main scenario quests except for the last one, which I'm saving for when I hit 1,000 levequests and FATEs. A few people have told me that there's no problem in doing the last mission in the free trial (no trophies, remember), because in the paid version, the trophy will pop up as soon as I finish any other side mission or DLC mission, but I'm really fearful that by doing so the trophy won't pop up, so I'd rather put the last mission on stand by instead of risking replaying the game's 200 main scenario quests all over again.

- There are two trophies that you cannot get a start on in the free trial: the PvP one, and the Binding Coil of Bahamut one. You can only pursue them in the paid version. You have access to the binding coil in the free trial, but since no trophies pop, there's no point in doing it there. Also, all the 5 turns of the BCB are available for you to play once you unlock them, but you only need to complete Turn 5 (the battle against Twintania) for the trophy to pop... or so I've been told. Personally, as soon as I reach 1,000 levequests and buy the paid version, I will create a session through the game and ask some level 90 dudes to carry me through this fight.

- You only get 6 tickets for levequests per day, so do it simultaneously with the 1,000 FATEs trophy, that's what I've been doing. 6 levequests and 6 FATEs per day. Levequests and FATEs are the last farmings that I need to take care of (not counting the 10,000 kills). I'll probably get my platinum in October, when I reach 1,000 levequests. It will be a long journey.
