Mr_Wright95
I Love Puzzle Quest 2 so when I saw this list I thought I might grab it, but have since realised it looks like a port of a mobile game with lots of microtransactions. For anyone who may end up getting this and going for the platinum, how "Cheap" is the game in terms of microtransaction tactics / is it platinumable without Micros (how long would it take) I must say My Initial Excitement has been diminished realising this could just be a big microtransaction cash grab, but hopefully its not and it is as good as Puzzle Quest 2. Popular Post Patrickosan
Don't waste your time on this. It has nothing to do with old Puzzle Quest games. First of all, this is a massive cash grab. You will hit a paywall very soon and it's so bad that even massive grind won't help, because it's all random. Just read some mobile version reviews, you will see its not worth time. And they will probably spam it with dlcs like Gems of War.

So sad to see games go down this path.

Check out some of the Steam reviews as well. It's currently has mixed reviews there, but most of the positive one's are super short unlike the negative one's which seem to be mostly well thought out.
DerSaffe
This really caught my attention, but after reading your reviews or at least your "warnings", I decided I won't buy play it. Anyhow: Can any of you guys recommend any games *like* PQ on PS4/5?

Marvel Puzzle Quest and then Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (which is just the PS2 version playable on the PS4 with trophies).

A quick search doesn't yield an answer but unlikely that it will be since Gems of War isn't. Too much money to be lost on allowing people to enjoy content on one account between platforms. I finally got out of the Gems sinkhole of time played and occasional money spent. Still play that game a bit and just started on PQ3 (cause I'm dumb) but don't think for a minute this company isn't out to make at least 5 bucks off everyone at some point.
Han_the_Dragon
I was happy when I saw the list, thinking that this was a regular Puzzle Quest game, but I think that I will skip it for a year or 2 to see what they are planning... Gems of War is getting close to the trophy limit and I can see them adding 30+ DLC packs into this one if it's another F2P game... I'm having a terrible time to keep up with their craziness on Gems of War, I'm not jumping into another one of those by them without giving enough time to see what's their true intentions...

I don't see a way they don't add a bunch of DLC, which I'm cool with. I figure I'll get in on the ground floor of possible craziness and be (maybe) ahead of the curve on eventual DLC trophies instead of playing catch up like Gems was/is for a lot of trophy hunters. Han_the_Dragon
Ya, but if they continue with the BS of Gems of War style, I rather not start it at all. It doesn't matter if you are ahead or even up-to-date when they start adding trophies that are almost a lottery, like the Hoard Mimic and it's 0.05% or something chance of happening.. I have been more or less ahead for about 2 years now (essentially after getting the Goef trophy), but that didn't help anything with the Hoard Mimic, that took me a year to get.. I just don't need another time sink like that.. and that's sad, because from the images that I saw in the store, this game is quite close to Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, and that was actually quite fun back then.

I'm active on Gems of War and regularly read the official forums. From what I learned from people who have played both games, the developers basically took their experiences from Gems and then applied it to PQ3 except severely dialing down the customer-friendliness factor. One example: Gems has a VIP level that increases the more you spend (basically a loyalty program). Higher VIP gives you bonuses like increased XP/Gold/Souls + bonus daily keys and the effect is permanent. In PQ3, the VIP bonus only lasts a certain amount of time and then expires. I think the only way we would ever get a good puzzle quest type game that isn't microtransaction hell is if they ported Puzzle Quest 2 to the PS or made the Puzzle Quest Remastered version on the Switch non-exclusive. That one I really want to play. I mean it has modernized graphics, quality of life improvements plus has the original extra campaign DLC baked in and an additional completely new campaign that also includes 4 new classes.
Nutrageous69
So I've been playing this game since it came out and yeah there looks to be a lot of potential microtransactions, it doesn't look like the game will be all that terrible to get all the trophies for. Like others said though I wouldn't be surprised if they add more trophies every so many months to keep people on the hook similar to Gems of War. So far I haven't run out of things to do before the eventual grinding experience kicks in. My worst gripe so far is the chests you get as rewards. You can only unlock up to 4 chests at a time for free, the rest you either need to spend keys (haven't run out of those yet) or gems or salvage them for what looks to be an extremely low amount of gold. I haven't salvaged any yet so maybe that isn't a bad thing. Also the free unlocks require a pet to be available to be sent to unlock it. So far I've collected 3 pets so maybe this isn't an issue long term. One other thing that may or may not be an issue is it looks ilke a lot of resources are capped with how many you can store. I don't know if there is a way to increase the cap or not, but it sounds like long term that might be an issue. Sikutai
It's a very fun and motivating game with a great soundtrack. All trophies are good for free to play conditions and can be earned relatively quickly without real money. With one exception: getting a piece of gear to level 50 will take the longest without spending real money, but it is doable. I'm really addicted to it.

czDante92
My two cents are pretty much what others above me said. Every trophy except one is simple and while it will take few dozen hours, they're easy and straightforward, maybe try to get Party Animal early, since the mode (probably) isn't played by many high level players. But. BUT. The Forgemaster trophy which requires to level up item to level 50 is a massive grind that will be very long not just by measure of [XXX] hours, but due to the F2P and mobile nature of the game also weeks, if not months, since there's only so much you can do per day to obtain upgrade materials. There might be faster or easier way to get the stuff, but so far, it's a massive grind that is also P2W to certain point. That being said, you can start up the game, get all the other trophies and either wait for future updates or play cheeky 15 minutes per day to get treasure chests which may contain the items, it's not like you'll forget how to play or get lost in the story, which is even dumber and simplier this time. The game itself is... fine. As a long time Gems of War player, it was dissapointing for me, but it still is an enjoyable Match 3 rpg, howewer plagued with P2W and mobile game bullshit. It's free tho, so unless you're one of those people who can't stand unfinished game in your profile, you have nothing to lose for trying it out.
