kidson2004
So I’m finally about to be in a position to upgrade the SSD in my PS5 and FINALLY play it as there’s a lot of heavy hitting games that are coming out/already out. I’m looking to get either a 2TB or a 4TB SSD w/heat sink. What are some good recommendations out there? Thanks so much in advance!!
Popular Post The Alchemist
I went with the WD Black SN850 1TB over a year ago and it's worked flawlessly, never had any issues with it. It was also pretty good value at the time, so I imagine prices must be even cheaper by now. I know there's a 2TB version available, not sure about a 4TB one though. I don't think there's a huge difference between most of the SSDs available for PS5 to be honest. Some are needlessly more expensive just because of branding, so make sure not to get suckered into marketing fluff. As long as it meets the speed and size requirements then you'll be good to go, so choose the one that best suits your budget. You can't really go wrong with the WD Black though. If it's good enough for Mark Cerny then it's good enough for me.
MaRo-1000
I have the Sabrent M2 4TB very expensive but for me the best choice with the heatsink because my PS5 is turned on 24/7. U could go with the 2TB too costs a lot less.
JFKing
Personally, I prefer Samsung for speed and reliability. However, I put a WD Black SN850 2 TB M.2 in my PS5. It's currently about 50% off: BestBuy Link Edited June 5 by Jacob Faulk-King
DawningWolf55
I have the 2 TB version but they seem sold out at the moment. the S70 Blade is very cheap and has done me wonders for two years almost now! They have the 4TB for almost 300 if you would like!https://www.amazon.com/XPG-1TB-GAMMIX-Blade-AGAMMIXS70B-1T-CS/dp/B0B2FSKTHK/ref=sr_1_2?crid=D50MDK1CI7H9&keywords=S70%2Bblade%2BPS5&qid=1685975183&sprefix=s70%2Bblade%2Bps5%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d977788f-1483-4f76-90a3-786e4cdc8f10&th=
zizimonster
I have been using WD for storage for years, but I don' recommend its Green variant -- grab the Blue or the Black one.
ChenZheCHN
I am planning buying Fanxiang S790 (2TB). https://item.jd.com/100052237871.html The price is CNY 539 (~ USD 75), very attractive. Some of my friends bought this and they enjoyed it a lot. Yangtze Memory is on the Entity List, so you know it’s good for sure.

Another vote here for the WD Black SN850. Got one back in 2021 and it's been working perfectly. Personally I prefer to stick with known brands when it comes to PC and related components, and the WD Black is considered to be a very good option. Pretty sure you can get it up to 4TB if that's your thing.
Jacko_the_lad
Another one with the WD Black here. Don't buy the "officially licensed for PS5" version though, because it's more money for the exact same thing.
turniplord
I have the 4tb Firecuda in mine - I bought it new from eBay for £400 last year (when they were retailing at over £600 on Amazon) but now you can buy it brand new on Amazon for around £360 It's a shame you've waited until now as there was a massive SSD sale on Amazon a few months back, they had all the major brands' M.2 drives at very low prices, every 4tb gen4 was around £300-340 At present, I have around 410 PS5 games installed on my 4TB + the internal drive, there are a lot of smaller games but mostly average-sized ones. I also have an 8TB WD external drive for all my PS4 games, but the external has a stupid limit of 1,000 games installed at a time, so I often can't install new games due to the number of games rather than the drive actually being full! shakie19
I took the plunge 2 months ago and went for the samsung, and although it went down in price since, i don't regret it. No issues since https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09J14CJ89/ref=twister_B0B2DZ4YXR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=
RadiantFlamberge
I went with the WD Black SN850 also, namely the 2 TB one. It was going for a good price when I picked it up. Mark Cerny's kind words about it sealed the deal for me. There is also a SN850X model with a 4 TB version. PCMag says that the SN850/850X models have a durability of 600 TBW (1 TB) and 1200 TBW (2 TB). Not bad.
No longer here
Bought the SN850 4TB and it’s supposed to come Saturday, my cousin has it and said it’s amazing and never has to worry about space again lol. It has improved read and write speeds which is already great since the PS5 SSD is already good Maybe 4TB is a stretch, but these games are only getting bigger (Star Wars Fallen Survivor being over 140+ gbs) And I would like to l play certain games right away from my backlog

Guest
I have a SN850 4TB, it's amazing. Worth every penny. Bestbuy is having a sale for the SN850s right now. You can get the 1TB for $80 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-black-sn850x-1tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme/6512131.p?skuId=6512131 2TB for $140 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-black-sn850x-2tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme/6512128.p?skuId=6512128 4TB $300 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-black-sn850x-4tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme/6512129.p?skuId=6512129 Edited June 19 by NERVergoproxy
Z1MZUM
This one is apparently underpowered but in reality easily fast enough for anything the PS5 presents, I have the Sabrent 4TB Rocket Q4 NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2. Installed the first week I could and it shown no problems for me. I lol'd so hard when Digital Foundry tried so hard to get people to buy faster drives before even trying something like this. Mavmathics
What is the difference between WD Black SN850 and WD Black SN850X Just from a quick google search the WD Black SN850X is the newer and better version, but its way cheaper compared to the old SN850 one. Is the 850X not compatible with the ps5 or why is the price lower? 850 Prices in my region: 1TB: 110€ 2 TB: 205€ 850X Prices: 1TB: 105€ 2TB: 160€ All prices including heatsink, which is required for the ps5 right? kidson2004
So, I'm thinking about picking up that WD Black SN850X 4TB, but it seems that it doesn't come with a heat sink. Where would I be able to get a heatsink from for that SSD?

When installing your 850 make sure you in at a 40-45 angle or it wont fit..
