This would mean I could just buy them day one, which happens often, but pre-orders happen when there's collector's editions with statuettes and/or art books I want (all Assassin's Creeds, Just Cause 3, South Park: Fractured But Whole, Arkham Knight etc), or if there's a pre-order sale (Day Of The Tentacle remastered had a percentage off, and the Dutch game store franchise GameMania occasionally has pre-order trade-in sales which I've used for GTA V, Shadow Of Mordor, Alien Isolation, Watch_Dogs 2 and others), or if I know the physical releases will run out day one (Zelda, GTA V again). That being said I am trying to cut down on buying more games (either pre-order or old), and work on my backlog some more. I cancelled my Horizon Zero Dawn pre-order a week before it was released because I didn't see enough time in my schedule to play it next to Zelda and Witcher III (the latter of which I already had failed at playing once, and I really want to get through it this time around). And yeah it's my money and I feel good spending it like this...
