Might be the worst PoP title ever made

I thought this was really good when it first came out, loved the graphics and the platforming was a lot of fun. I went back to it before playing The Forgotten Sands and thought it still held up well. The Forgotten Sands however, I'd rank that as one of the top 3 worst games I've played on PS3. Comes off as lazy in every possible way.

The PoP with the collecting of Blue Orbs to progress further in the story, more cartoony feel to it, that's the only PoP I did not complete and only enjoyed for a little bit.

When I was forced to collect orbs to get further in the story, I just stopped. I wanted to stick with it and complete it, but ugh, having to collect annoying orbs in a ton to do the story annoyed me.

I did enjoy it up to the orb part though, I really enjoyed it, especially since I could put the prince into Altair gear from Assassin's Creed, it was fun.

Worst PoP of all time? Nah, IMO that honor goes to Warrior Within, followed by The Forgotten Sands. I rather enjoyed the 2008 version. I thought it was beautiful graphically, and the combat, although repetitive, is fun when you get the timing down. Plus, I liked the characters of the Prince and Elika. Aaaaand... I earned my first ever trophy (Into the Storm) playing that game, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I think Warrior Within had arguably the best platforming, but the glitches and forced combat really detracted from the gameplay. Not to mention that Godsmack song that played every 10 minutes.

Also, we share the same "first ever" trophy!  :yay:

I saw a couple of posters run into the same issue as I did: when am I gonna finish this game?

I booted it up back in 2009, earned a couple trophies and put it down. I started it back up days ago and I can't remember the last time I played a game I hated so fiercely. Now, I think I've been spoiled with all my training-wheel games on the PS4 for platforming, so I went in expecting some frustrating. Sure, you can't jump at some angles and fall. Sure, the Prince jumps up instead of across and falls. Sure, there are invisible walls that cause falling. I got passed all that. The one thing I can't get passed is Erika. You have this magical character with you that can save you any time from any where, she can platform as good (sometimes better) than you and she can fly. Why the hell do you need to stop to help her up a ledge or piggyback on vines. It completely breaks the flow. I tried to jump up a ledge this morning, for example. First attempt, I pressed the buttons (up + X) needed for the maneuver. Right before he executed the jump, he stops to help her to his ledge, jumps up half this distance, then falls to his death. On my next attempt, I moved along the ledge to the right so she'd have her own handhold. I tried the ledge jump again without issue. THIS IS BAD GAME DESIGN. Don't punish the player for escorting a MAGICAL character around. More than a dozen times she's body-blocked me like this.

Last bit of my rant, I had to mute the game and turn off subtitles. Their dialogue is terrible. Every healing its the same thing but said slightly differently. "Are you ok?", "You should take a break?", "Let me help you." followed by "I must press on", "Ahriman doesn't rest.", "I'll be fine."

I've played good and bad games - look at the profile - but holy hell this one is taking the cake for worst game. No wonder I put it down 12 years ago.

I remember really enjoying this despite my trepidation- I really liked the Sands of Time trilogy on PS2. Lots of games went for the dark, dreary, gritty feel at this time, this one went the opposite and felt really fresh as a result. I liked the spin on Arabian mythology and the multiple combos you could do. I heard Nolan North was unhappy with the voice direction he was given- he felt the Prince should have an accent like what Yuri Lowenthal did but he was told to use his normal voice like Robin Atkin Downes (who funnily enough played a British villain in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception). And I think the graphics have held up very nicely over time. Must boot it up again sometime.

I think you mean the best PoP game. Combat system is fluid, movement system is also fluid with all the powers. Great characters with amazing development. Music is also amazing. The game is so simple and because of that, it’s a masterpiece. Ubi Montreal could concentrate on refining the gameplay mechanics to make them the best they could be. The worst a PoP is Warrior Within.

I have little complaints with the base game, despite the 1001 seeds trophy taking several hours watching a bunch of YouTube videos to collect them all. Combo Specialist also took a while, but once I got going and marked off each combo completed it unlocked upon me defeating the second encounter of the Alchemist. The platinum isn't all that hard, Nathan Drake instills a little humor throughout the game even though Nolan North felt he was miscast, can't blame him, Nathan Drake doesn't exactly belong in this series.

I must say the Epilogue DLC is complete garbage. Full of extensive platforming sections where one slip up means you have to repeat probably a full minutes worth of jumping and climbing. This wouldn't be such an issue if it weren't for two trophies: One for beating the game while being saved less than 20 times, and beating the Epilogue in under two hours. Unfortunately there are several platforming sections where you will die a lot because the prince will die randomly from the black blobs or refuse to grab a wall. This requires much saving, and to add salt in the wound, you will occasionally be set back to a previous section despite having made the save at a location you stopped in. A certain ring didn't spawn early on, I deleted the entire game and the DLC and reinstalled everything. After a couple of tries, the ring did spawn back, but I had already surpassed that section by having to do a very deliberate pixel perfect jump where I managed to grab the second ring after the glitched ring.

This could be the fact that I have the digital version of the game and I cannot update to version 1.01 because my console says I am on the latest version. Perhaps having the physical copy of the game and the screen prompt to update to version 1.01 will fix some of these headaches. But regardless, the Epilogue DLC has soured my experience on what is otherwise a fairly alright Prince of Persia game.

And knowing Ubisoft as well as I do, they have half assed DLC and a portion of their games in the past, because their bottom line is doing everything by the numbers.

Interesting to hear your thoughts, thank you. I wasn’t aware this one had a DLC either. I’ve got this game queued up in the backlog for when I finish the trilogy, and I was mostly looking forward to it based on how different it looks. After Warrior Within & Two Thrones being quite a draining experience to platinum, I am looking forward to trying something fresh and new. The fluid platforming in particular looks very interesting in how drastically different it is than the other games.

I will warn you that the Epilogue DLC is very frustrating. Platforming is much more difficult and occasionally you will fail a few jumps.

I can say the base game is alright overall. In ways I still think The Forgotten Sands is my favorite, yet PoP 2008 is still much better than The Warrior Within.

I’m getting used to frustration when it comes to this series, so I will be well prepared by the time I get there lol.

My favourite so far is still the classic Sands of Time. That game is very nostalgic for me, and it just had a great vibe that is missing in the angsty, brooding emo Prince in the sequels. I haven’t yet played The Forgotten Sands though so I exclude that from my list. There’s a pawn shop near me that has had a copy for sale for $9 for like a year now and I keep meaning to swing by there and grab it when I’m in the area. ?

I think you’ll enjoy The Forgotten Sands. It stars Yuri who also voiced the Prince in The Two Thrones so you’ll be hearing his voice again. Easy platinum, but the sarcophagus collectibles are highly missable. Has some fun game mechanics like turning falling water into ice.

Prince of Persia 2008 is a fairly easy platinum, with a lot of collectibles (1001 light seeds). You may want to make a checklist for Combo Specialist as there are over 60 combos in the game. The Epilogue DLC will have much tighter and difficult platforming.

I guess that someone enjoying this particular genre would find the main game decent. I hated it however, just as much as I hated Darksiders or the first God of War. Whether it was the endless collectibles, the annoying combat or the convoluted puzzles, it bothered me to no end and I had zero fun along the way. I expected something more laid back, fluid and Assassin's Creed-y but I was so so wrong.

The DLC was pure hell. The many missable trophies and hard platforming sections made it brutally frustrating.
