Popular Post Dragon-Archon
Credit for this amazing banner goes to Floriiss Hello everyone and welcome to my lair of platinum trophies version 2 (if you want to see my first checklist, click here). I live in The Netherlands and I’ve officially been a gamer since 1998 when I got my first console (PS1 of course). I play almost all kinds of genres, but my favorite is RPG. That’s because these games have a very intriguing story and the developers created a unique world and lore to explore. My least favorite genre is sportgames, because they don’t have a story at all. I've included some external links to the guides I've (co-)written and to pictures, soundtracks and short vids in the game descriptions. And I've added spoiler tags to reduce the ridiculous amount of times you have to scroll down, which is especially useful since the checklist covers more than 1 post. And the checklist is also spoiler free, so you can read everything you want without having to worry about it. Also, let me know what you think of my collection and my opinion of each game (and if you actually read everything).Without further ado, let me show you the platinums I’ve collected over the years. 1 - 25 #1 Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time September 21 2009 My first plat, this really was a milestone. I liked this game, because of the over-the-top action, unique weapons, humor and the story intrigued me. Although it’s a little short for a R&C game compared to the first four PS2 versions and Tools of Destruction. Nevertheless I’d recommend this game. #2 Dragon Age: Origins February 9 2010 I must’ve spent at least 100 hours on this game, all its DLC and the Awakening expansion. It was awesome to choose the race, background and your personality (being good or a selfish bastard). #3 Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince April 11 2010 This game turned out to be a waste of money. The main story was completed in 5 hours and the majority of the time I was looking for crests (collectibles) scattered in and around Hogwarts and completing challenges. #4 Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune April 12 2010 This is one of the best PS3 games imo. It has a unique and intriguing story, the voice acting was excellent and the game felt like an interactive movie. #5 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed April 15 2010 This game wasn’t so bad and it actually fit in the overall SW story. The highest difficulty was a real challenge. I mostly used hit-and-run tactics for the boss fights (with the emphasis on run), especially during the Bull Rancor fight. It went like this: run, run, dodge, run, run, dodge, run, hit (and die) rinse and repeat. #6 Bayonetta April 21 2010 Bayonetta is one of those ‘love it or hate it’ games. I personally loved the game (and I’m not just saying that because she looked so nice when posing to summon demons ). Instead of the typical “fighting demons”, you’re fighting angels. Aside from the diverse weapons (and the possibility to use weapons from defeated angels), Bayonetta can use a Torture Attack that is different for each type of enemy. It’s nice to see a game with a female protagonist, instead of a usual male. #7 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves May 4 2010 The second game was even better than the first. Mainly because the story was unknown to me. Uncharted 1 focused on El Dorado, but Uncharted 2 was all about the Cintemani Stone and the Marco Polo expedition. And I knew nothing about this, so I enjoyed every second of it. There were also a few new weapons, the melee combat was improved, Chloe was introduced and the Doughnut Drake skin returned with an ingame joke. Voice acting was, once again, fantastic and the environment was very diverse. Uncharted 1 takes place in the jungles (most of the time), while in Uncharted 2 there were mountains, a city destroyed by a war, temples and train & car chases. Only downside was the small role Sully got. #8 Overlord 2 May 4 2010 One of the funniest games ever created, where you have to be evil. You want to know why it's more fun to play evil? Well because of the perks that come with the job, of course. And you get an awesome background sound while doing evil things. So don't delay, be evil today ! You play as the son of the Overlord from the first game, who becomes the next Overlord and whose rule is being threatened by a Roman-like empire hell-bent on rooting out magic. You still have control over 4 types of minions who’ll happily do everything for their beloved dark master (including drowning at your command or sacrificing themselves to give you health, mana or better equipment). You can choose to dominate or destroy people/towns. Destroying gives you a one-time quick boost in gold and life force (needed to create more minions), while dominating gives infinite gold and life force on the long run (not to mention towns filled with slaves) but takes much longer to achieve. In Overlord 2 you no longer have to choose between a mistress and can have 3. I really hoped for a third game, but it seems the series has been cancelled. #9 God of War May 28 2010 Sadly I never played this game on the PS2, so the HD remake was very convenient for me. It was very intriguing because I know quite a lot about the ancient Greek mythology, but there were also new elements that the developers made up (like Kratos becoming the new God of War). #10 God of War II June 5 2010 Story was fantastic, the structure of the island was mindblowing (with the Steeds of Time pulling it together). Only thing I didn’t get was the visit to the Titans in the past. Kratos’ destiny wasn’t intertwined with them until the start of GoW2, so how did he manage to visit them hundreds of years in the past during the war between the gods and the titans? #11 God of War III June 6 2010 Great conclusion to the story, original items (using the head of the sun god as a flashlight ), Aphrodite looked really hot, fighting the gods was epic (except for that wuss Hermes). It’s a shame some content was cut from the game (fighting Gaia & Zeus at the same time and climbing Mt. Olympus, only to find out you were climbing a Titan who was climbing Mt. Olympus). #12 Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 November 21 2010 I like the Naruto manga and I watch the anime every now and then. This game follows the story quite well. Although the online part needed some more attention. Everyone was just spamming a substitution jutsu were you teleport behind an opponent when he attacks. #13 Assassin’s Creed II November 26 2010 After playing the very repetitive AC1, I was very sceptical about AC2. So I bought it for €15 and it turned out to be the best AC game in series. The story, setting, soundtrack, weapons and diversity in missions were excellent. The ‘Ezio’s Family’ and ‘Venice Rooftops’ are among the best soundtracks ever made. #14 Dante’s Inferno December 31 2010 The setting for this game are the 9 circles of Hell (Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery respectively) and I really liked the light and dark powers. Every time you go to a deeper circle, you come across a giant chain that you have to break. And every time you do, there's an ominous laughing on the background foreboding something more sinister than just traveling to a deeper circle. In each circle you face one of your sins corresponding with the 9 circles. The end of the game hints to a sequel, which isn't surprising considering the story is based on The Divine Comedy. This is divided in three parts: Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (purgatory) and Paradiso (Heaven). In this game you wield a scythe (from Death itself) and a holy cross. The fighting is way too similar to God of War, but that isn’t bad at all. A downside was that the game’s way too short (7 hours tops on normal). Hard and Infernal mode aren’t quite as challenging as I thought. If you upgrade the cross’ magical attacks and spam these, most demons die real fast. #15 Mass Effect 2 February 2 2011 When Mass Effect 1 was released, I seriously considered buying an Xbox. So the announcement of an PS3 port of ME2 was one of the best moments in history of games. You can choose and/or decide a lot of things during the missions and conversations. If you want to explore everything, you have to play at least 5 times for all conversation options. Luckily there are 6 different classes to choose from and (at least) 3 romances per gender. Save files can also be imported so that decisions carry over throughout the entire trilogy. There are some choices from Mass Effect 1 that have an impact in ME2 and/or ME3. Furthermore, Mass Effect 2 has some awesome soundtracks ('Normandy Reborn', 'Suicide Mission' and 'The End Run'). #16 Terminator Salvation February 2 2011 This is one of the worst games I’ve ever played. It’s filled with glitches. If there are still people considering to buy this game, my advice would be to don’t waste your money on it. #17 Dragon Age II April 1 2011 Ugh, don’t get me started on this game. I couldn't believe that the same team who created the amazing Dragon Age Origins screwed up so much with this game. At least it looked nice and the female Hawke’s voice actress did an excellent job. Bioware listened to the complains of the fans and created 2 DLCs (Legacy and Mark of the Assassin) that were amazing, showing that they haven't lost their touch. #18 Sly Cooper & The Thievius Raccoonus April 9 2011 Again one of those games I didn’t buy on the PS2. I really like the cartoony style and the story. It took a while to get used to the health system (one hit and you die). #19 Sly 2: Band of Thieves April 11 2011 I enjoyed planning a heist, preparing everything, creating the right opportunity and stealing the objects. Every chapter had a different themed open-world. I did have a lot of trouble fighting the final boss with the helicopter. Took me more than 30 retries to beat it , but in the end I prevailed. #20 Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves May 1 2011 Not much is changed from Sly 2 (don't change a winning formula). You can get a costume to fool the guards and attack pirate ships with your own ship. The most wonderful thing was a chapter with the aviator tournament that took place in the Netherlands. #21 InFamous June 20 2011 The story was intriguing and the ending was a big WTF moment, when you realize that everything you experienced isn’t what you thought it would be (I know it's cryptic, but it's a big spoiler so bear with me). Furthermore, I like how a bronze trophy has only 1 lightning bolt and every higher ranking one gets an extra bolt (silver 2, gold 3 and platinum has 4 bolts). #22 Burnout Paradise June 21 2011 It’s refreshing to see an open-world race game. The ingame radio was mostly terrible. I didn’t realize I could customize the playlist until halfway through the game. #23 Prince of Persia September 1 2011 The story interested me and I really wanted a sequel. Unfortunately, Ubi just released a crappy dlc and ended the story this way. Not being able to die wasn’t an issue for me, because if you screw up you have to restart the sequence. Which also happens if you die in a game. Fighting only 1 enemy at a time made it feel like miniboss fights. Collecting all the light seeds was tedious, though. #24 Final Fantasy XIII September 14 2011 The story is great, but it’s a shame that the focus has changed from tactics to mashing a button as fast as possible (I still prefer the turn-based fights). When you unlock certain trophies, you also get a PS3 theme (7 in total). This is a nice reward and imo should be implemented in every game. Not receiving money from fights forced me to grind enemies for items to sell. Apparently, it wasn’t realistic to receive money from monsters after fights . But Square Enix thought it would be realistic to shoot magic from your hands and to summon transformer-like beings or that the main characters never have a bad hair day during all the extreme events in the game . Anyway, Lightning and Fang are among my personal list of hottest characters ever. #25 Darksiders October 28 2011 Darksiders combines the fighting of God of War and the puzzles of Zelda. It’s been a while since I had to think and experiment so much with the dungeons. Both the story and setting (apocalypse started way too soon and demons and angels are fighting it out on Earth) are great and I really like the design of Uriel. It was a bit annoying to spent hours upgrading the sword, only to find out War replaces it with a better sword that’s already maxed out right before the final boss fight. 26 - 50 #26 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 October 28 2011 This piece of crap should never have been released. The story mode lasts 3 hours on normal (5 on the hardest difficulty) and it really adds absolutely nothing to the Star Wars universe. It only shows that Darth Vader has learned nothing since SW TFU1. To compensate the very short story mode, the developers made 10 challenges that range from hard to ‘I’m-going-to-break-that-disc-when-I’m-done’. #27 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception November 11 2011 Better than U1, but not as great as U2. The game felt rushed at certain parts (i.e. all chapters with the pirates and the cruise ship are just fillers that add nothing to the story) and there were no mythical monsters (unless you count the hallucinations). Sully got a major part, but Elena and Chloe were hardly seen. I sincerely hope that Naughty Dog will give them all equal screen time, should they ever make U4. #28 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim February 3 2012 It’s a decent game with a nice story, but filled with glitches (at the time). The guild questlines were very short. Still, I enjoyed the game and all the dlc. The battle with Alduin was the same as battling other dragons. So there was nothing epic, new or memorable about it. Here’s what happens afterwards: I just slew the world-eater, so I’ll get an awesome dragon soul . No, his soul went away to bide his time and to return someday. Wait, what now ? Oh well, at least I can loot his skeleton for amazing rewards, right ? No, his skeleton exploded into a gazillion pieces. Oh okay, maybe I’ll get some reward from the people , because you know I just saved the entire world from being eaten . Yeah, everyone from Sovngarde (land of the dead, where the battle took place), who have no means of communicating with the living. But they will sing songs about your heroic deeds until the end of time. That's nice, I suppose . So, isn’t there anyone alive who knows of my deeds ? Oh yeah sure, the dragons. They all felt it when Alduin was slain. So the only ones to know of your accomplishments are conveniently the ones people kill at sight ? Anyone else ? Sure, the Blades who are sworn to secrecy and are being hunted by the ruling elves and the Grey Beards who are reclusive and almost never speak to outsiders. #29 Final Fantasy XIII-2 February 20 2012 Although Lightning was promoted heavily, she only has cameo appearances. Which was a major disappointment. There are only 2 playable main characters, so to replace a third party member you can catch and train pokémon monsters. The story is mediocre at best. The ending was very vague and required an additional DLC to understand it and to see the events that led up to that moment. However, just like in FFXIII, unlocking certain trophies also unlocks PS3 themes. #30 Mass Effect 3 April 2 2012 This is it, the Reapers are here and Earth has fallen in the prologue. It's like Shepard says: 'This isn't about strategy or tactics, this is about survival. The Reapers... are here!' This really sets the tone and it's your job to unite the entire galaxy and end the Reaper threat. After killing a Reaper in ME1 and ME2, you're the galaxy's expert and everyone wants to be your friend. Even though the Council declared you insane for believing the Reapers were real (that's right, looking at you Turian Councilor ). I wish there was an option to say 'I told you so!'. ME3 is an amazing conclusion to the trilogy (except for the ending), great soundtracks, great voice acting and a lot of weapons. The game provides epic closure to problems that were introduced in ME1 and 2. These were especially satisfying if you've imported a save file all the way from ME1. Finishing each of the main missions felt like a little ending in the game and at the final mission all these endings came together. However it was a little short (around 26 hours on Insanity compared to 38 hours I spent with Mass Effect 2), there were no side quests only tasks (go there, pick something up and bring it back to me for some cash and war support), there was no final boss fight and the new squad members from ME2 only made cameos. Miranda should’ve been a full time squad member (I would gladly trade her for Ashley/Kaiden and James). The Extended Cut DLC (which is free ) did add some details about the consequences of your choices in an epilogue, which was nice to see. The Leviathan (Reaper origins), Omega (liberating Omega) and From Ashes (Prothean squadmember) DLCs should’ve been in the game. The Citadel dlc is designed as a final farewell and after finishing the main dlc story, it gives you an opportunity to do some things with every squad member from ME1 and ME2 (except Legion, Thane and Mordin). It ends with a party (you can choose who to invite) and a group picture. That really closes the ME3 trilogy for me and this would’ve been an excellent ending for the game after you defeat the Reaper threat. After seeing the Citadel DLC ending, I've got no reason to play the actual ME3 ending again. A few soundtracks that I liked in this game are 'Leaving Earth', 'A Future For The Krogan', 'Rannoch' and 'The Fleets Arrive' #31 Mini Ninjas April 4 2012 Funny game, but nothing remarkable. #32 Trine April 14 2012 The game is narrated like a fairy tale, which is a unique approach. There are no bosses and you only fight skeletons, which gets boring after the first 2 levels (out of 15). Each level does has its own theme. #33 Assassin’s Creed Revelations July 1 2012 Decent AC game, but felt more like an expansion (like Brotherhood). There were only minor innovations like a hookblade, using and creating explosives and defending an assassin hideout. The story was extremely short and the Desmond missions were glitched. #34 InFamous 2 July 17 2012 Nice story, new ice and fire powers depending on the karma, different endings and the best innovation is an ingame way to locate the blast shards. Both endings were a bit sad, nonetheless a great game. #35 Alice: Madness Returns July 27 2012 A great game that is underrated. There are a lot of collectibles, but the game has a great story. #36 Resistance 3 August 1 2012 The weapon wheel returns, weapon are upgraded when used and more importantly there are no multiplayer trophies . I like how the Insomniac logo is integrated into the trophy image. #37 Ratchet & Clank September 24 2012 Ugh, I hate this image. Insomniac should’ve changed it to something that’s relevant to each R&C game and not just recycle it in every HD remake. #38 Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal November 1 2012 My favorite R&C game, Nefarious is among the best and funniest villains ever. #39 Deus Ex: Human Revolution November 11 2012 Amazing game with an awesome soundtrack and an intriguing story involving conspiracies and the Illuminati. As the game progresses I constantly found myself wondering who I should believe, because everyone seems to have their own agenda. There was also one soundtrack (Icarus) that was amazing. I definitely recommend this game and can nowadays be purchased for €10. #40 Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One November 25 2012 If you like the R&C series and always wanted to play it with more people, than this is a game you’ll enjoy. If not, well thankfully there are other games. #41 Darksiders 2 December 12 2012 Darksiders 1 had the right combination of dungeons, bosses and exploration. Darksiders 2, on the other hand, is basically dungeon after dungeon after dungeon after dungeon and a boss. This repeats on all 4 worlds. The end boss of the game was a big anti-climax and the fight was over in 1-2 minutes. The giant Construct Guardian of world 1 would’ve served as a better final boss. Riding on your trusty horse and fighting a (give or take) 60 meter corrupt construct. #42 Resident Evil 5 December 24 2012 One of the nicest platinum images. The final level really got the adrenaline pumping because of the soundtrack (Majini IX In Flames) and the army of enemies standing in your way. “Per ardua ad astra” can roughly be translated to “through hard work to the stars”. #43 Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault February 16 2013 A mediocre R&C game with hardly any story. At least the platinum image is different. #44 Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando February 16 2013 Getting the platinum bolts in the 3 space races took a lot of time and practice. #45 Sleeping Dogs March 22 2013 I have no idea what this image is supposed to represent, but it’s an entertaining game. #46 Duke Nukem Forever March 23 2013 Ah, this game reminds me of my fond Duke Nukem memories. Insanity was a real challenge, especially the Octaking boss. #47 The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North April 12 2013 Surprisingly entertaining, although the ‘Strength of our Alliance’ trophy is extremely glitched. #48 Trine 2 April 13 2013 A great sequel, but you don’t even have to finish the game to get the platinum. Which is a shame. #49 Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning April 27 2013 A great game, but some areas become boring and repetitive due to almost no change in scenery. Being able to change your class is nice. That way fights don’t become boring. #50 Mass Effect May 5 2013 The game were it all started. It was a bit weird to play ME1 after ME2 and 3 (thus knowing everything of the Reapers), nonetheless it’s a great game and a really nice platinum. Just like the other 2 Mass Effect games, this one also has some incredible soundtracks: 'Spectre Induction' and 'From The Wreckage'. 51 - 75 #51 Bulletstorm June 3 2013 You want a game filled with humor, cheesy lines, colorful environment, crazy weapons, strange enemies and 131 ways to kill enemies (seriously, there are 131 skillshots that requires killing enemies)? Look no further! This is one of those games that you play after a long and rough day to relax and take your mind of things. #52 Assassin’s Creed III June 14 2013 A mediocre game, assassins tend to be effective when they work stealthy. However, that isn’t the case in AC3. Ubi also seems to be under the impression that bigger is always better, the downside: they have to fill a bigger area with dull and boring quests. Most of which have nothing to do with a life of an assassin. :platinum: #53 Okami HD June 27 2013 This is such a wonderful game that reminds me of games like Spyro the dragon, Croc, Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts where you embark on a grand quest to turn the tide against the dark forces. It’s a shame developers don’t make these kind of games anymore. :platinum: #54 Crysis July 2 2013 A decent game, nothing too difficult (even at the highest difficulty). :platinum: #55 Hitman Absolution July 8 2013 The challenge of this game is to find alternate ways to kill targets. There are some very original ways to complete the missions. :platinum: #56 Saints Row The Third July 13 2013 A very entertaining game with humor and ridiculously overpowered weapons. It's nice to give the protagonist a personal touch by customizing the appearance. I created a female protagonist who looked very stunning in her deep blue cat suit while driving the Attrazione, flying the black F69-VTOL or wielding dual SMG. I also liked the different choices during certain missions that affect the outcome. Each choice yields a different reward, which greatly adds to the replay value. Some challenges were a grind and there are a lot of collectibles (thankfully there is an ingame map with locations). After a while a few side missions became boring and very repetitive (mainly the vehicle thefts) due to the lack of variety. :platinum: #57 Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen July 21 2013 This is one of the nicest looking plat images imo and it really makes me feel like I've accomplished something. The game is very entertaining with an epic dragon boss fight. Compared to Grigori The Dragon, Alduin (from Skyrim) and The Archdemon (from Dragon Age Origins) seem like newly hatched dragon babies. The battle against Grigori for the future of mankind is so epic, it has 3 fitting soundtracks that sets the tone ('Dragon Battle', 'Fire and Perdition' and 'Imminent Triumph'). There are a lot of enemies, which require different strategies to kill (such as climbing them and cutting certain parts of or setting the wings on fire to prevent it from flying away). The ending cut scene raised more questions than answers. The Dark Souls Arisen expansion adds a lot of new enemies, equipment and materials. After defeating the end boss (Daimon), you have to complete it again to get the true ending. The catch: it’s at least 3 times more difficult, new enemies spawn and Daimon has a second form. Oh yeah, and Death now appears in new locations (even after defeating it, it can still appear in a different area because you can’t truly kill it). This all sounds tedious and hard, but it’s actually a lot of fun. :platinum: #58 Hitman 2: Silent Assassin July 26 2013 The professional difficulty was a real challenge. There are more enemies, they react faster and disguises are easier discovered. The story is very vague and only explained right before the final mission. There are also a lot of glitches, mainly in the final mission. Enemies can see through walls and have a hearing that would even make superman jealous. If you're caught wearing certain disguises, guards will keep following you to check your ID until you're disguise is blown (instead of stopping after 1 check). After that every guard on the map will swarm you (which is completely useless on Professional, because 3-4 hits will kill you). Also, if they find someone you killed without any witnesses, they'll automatically know that it was a bald guy and start looking for you. :platinum: #59 Hitman Contracts July 29 2013 Entertaining game, story is confusing because of the flashbacks and the present day missions are all mixed up. It's great to see another game that partially plays in The Netherlands (mission 5 & 6), the other game being Sly 3 with the aviator tournament. Of course there were the usual glitches: enemies seeing through walls, enemies hearing you while sneaking, enemies being stuck in a wall or the floor. There was also a target whom I drowned (got the trophy as proof) only for him to come back to life, run away and alert every guard in the hotel :| . :platinum: #60 Hitman Blood Money August 7 2013 Blood Money is the best Hitman game. The notoriety and evidence system are a great innovation, customizing weapons was nice and restoring health really came in handy during professional mode. Every level has a different setting and there aren't so much glitches, unlike Silent Assassin and Contracts. My favorite level was 'Dancing with the devil' because of the Heaven and Hell setting. :platinum: #61 God of War: Chains of Olympus August 9 2013 A very easy (and way too short) God of War game. The only tricky parts were the final boss fight and the challenge of Hades #3. :platinum: #62 God of War: Ghost of Sparta August 10 2013 Even shorter and easier than Chains of Olympus. The fights against Erinys and Thanatos were memorable, at least. :platinum: #63 Dishonored August 18 2013 A very entertaining game. You can either kill everyone using a sword, gun and grenades or use a stealthier approach and use sleep darts and choke enemies unconscious. Your game play affects the number of enemies, reactions of allies and the ending. If you kill everyone (high chaos rating), the corpses attract more rats who carry the plague. This in turn will infect a lot more people and turn them into Weepers (infected zombie-like beings). As a result guards will be more vigilant and will patrol in greater numbers. Your allies will also see you as a mass murderer. If you play it stealthy and killing only key targets or no one at all (low chaos rating), the opposite happens. The powers are original and are very fun to experiment with. :platinum: #64 Demon’s Souls August 23 2013 OMG, this game is amazing and merciless when you screw up (which did happen from time to time). Here are my experiences with the first level: I managed to beat the Vanguard boss in the tutorial :awesome: (who was trying to make a pancake of me by executing butt-slamming attacks and was wielding an axe that was bigger than my character) only to die 8 times when trying to kill a red-eyed knight :S . After which I found out that the path to the knight was a dead end <_< . A while later I got burned to a crisp by a dragon when crossing a bridge (which is an instant kill). Turns out I had to distract the dragon first  . Another while later (with no deaths in the meantime :D) I thought to sneak up on some crossbow men, only to get squashed to death by 4 giant boulders (as if 1 wasn't enough  ). When I finally managed to get the Phalanx boss, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a giant black Muk (you know, pokemon  ) covered with black Grimers who had shields instead of faces and each Grimer was wielding a way too large spear :| . Anyway, each world had a different theme and there were all kinds of traps, weapons, armor and souls hidden in each world. :platinum: #65 Prince of Persia: Sands of Time August 25 2013 This series brings back memories from the good old days. Nothing extremely hard. but fighting enemies gets boring after a while due to the lack of variety. :platinum: #66 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within August 31 2013 It's a decent game, but the heavy metal music was terrible. I also love how the first half of the game is a seemingly endless loop. The Dahaka has an original design and the Empress of Time was nice to look at. :platinum: #67 Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones September 4 2013 The best PoP game and a great conclusion to the story imo; it has an amazing story, Arabic music (instead of that horrible heavy metal in PoP Warrior Within) and Farah returns. Stealth kills and the Dark Prince are nice additions and are a welcome change in gameplay. :platinum: #68 Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3) September 13 2013 One of the best games of 2013 that's been on my backlog for far too long. The story picks up where Sly 3 ended. The story is hilarious and interesting, but you don't have to play the original trilogy to understand it (nonetheless it's recommended). Each ancestor plays a little different, so they don't feel like Sly with different clothes. Each costume has a different ability and they are needed to collect every treasure. The only thing I disliked was the hack mini-game with the move function. There should've been an option to turn it off. All in all, Sanzaru did a great job with this game and I'm looking forward to Sly 5. :platinum: #69 Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy September 13 2013 This game brings back memories. After all these years it's still a great game, only the camera still doesn't work properly at times. :platinum: #70 Jak II September 13 2013 Same camera issues as with Jak and Daxter, but still an awesome game. :platinum: #71 Jak 3 September 15 2013 The best Jak game of the series, imo. After all those years it's still funny to discover what the precursors really are and how everyone reacts. :platinum: #72 Ratchet: Deadlocked October 5 2013 I got this game for free, because I purchased R&C Full Frontal Assault. It's a decent game, but if focuses solely on shooting (there are hardly any funny moments or platforming). The Harbinger is the most bad@$$ weapon, though. Some skill points didn't unlock when I met the requirements, so I had to try them numerous times. :platinum: #73 God of War: Ascension October 12 2013 Throughout the entire game I felt like the developers ran out of inspiration (elephant and scarab enemies in Greek mythology, really? <_< ) . The story is very confusing in the beginning and I didn't understand what Kratos was trying to do until the final cut scene. I thought he was trying to avenge the death of his family (like in all the other 5 games), but no. Apparently he lost (a part of) his memory. There are a few positive things, like the epic fights against Hecatonchires' infected head and Alecto. Repairing Apollo's statue was a nice change, considering Kratos usually destroys things (Atlantis and Olympus comes to mind). Although, I preferred the giant statue of the woman that was shown during Archimedes' Trials :eyebrow: . :platinum: #74 Far Cry 3 October 27 2013 A great game with a crazy antagonist. A lot of people praised Vaas’ insanity speech, so naturally I was really looking forward to this. However when I finally heard it, I was a little disappointed. Probably because I expected too much. Nevertheless, Vaas is one of the best antagonists ever and his voice actor did an outstanding job. Hunting animals was a nice change and a lot better than Assassin’s Creed III (which was surprising, considering both games are from Ubisoft). Liberating outposts became boring after a while, so I tried to kill everyone undetected. That added some new elements, like planning and recon (not to mention a lot more xp) :D . It was a bit annoying to plan the whole thing, only for a predator to walk in the camp, alert everyone and be spotted  . In times like these, I threw tactics out the window and relied on superior firepower :eyebrow: (meaning I used the RPG to blast everyone into next century  ). I didn’t need to grind for xp though, I got all the skills just before the final ceremony. I did activate radio towers, liberate outposts and collected relics, letters and memory cards the moment I entered a new region and still had some left post game. The co-op part is also enjoyable, but pretty much the same as singleplayer, albeit without the hunting and crafting part. There was this weird glitch in mission 4 where I fell through the ground :jaymon: into the sea and I could see the other players above me. :platinum: #75 Vanquish November 4 2013 After a lot of pressure from the PSNProfiles community and a bet, I decided to try to get this plat again. And finally after months of trying, giving up and trying again I've managed to beat the dreaded Tactical Challenge #6 B) with a completion time of 20:50:54 and got my third ultra rare plat. The time isn't that spectacular, but who cares (I certainly don't :awesome: ). The game itself isn't that difficult at all, even on hard mode. Collecting all 112 Pangloss statues can be tedious, but nothing a guide won't fix :D . Even challenge 1-3 and 5 range from easy to doable. Challenge 4 is surprisingly hard and 6 is (imo) where it gets nearly impossible. I failed a lot while trying to complete #6 (I stopped counting after 100 times, which was months ago :| ) and practised challenge 6 until i could do wave 1-4 with only 1 EMP grenade. When I started wave 5, I had 5 EMP's, 3 cigarettes, 1 upgrade, 2 lock-on-lasers, 1 rocket launcher and a few heavy machine guns left for the bogeys. I couldn't find the rocket launcher dropped by the blue bogey, because I killed it with the LO-laser and didn't pay attention to where it went <_< . I had to focus on the red bogey, because it went berserk. But it did get easier when there was still 1 bogey left. I could focus all my attention on it instead of multitasking (which I'm told guys are very bad at ). :platinum: 76 - 100 :platinum: #76 Kingdom Hearts Final Mix November 21 2013 This game is the reason I bought the PS2 months earlier then I intended (it has one of the best intro songs ever). So naturally I got the HD Remix Limited Edition. Before you judge me, let me tell you this isn't a game just for little children. Sure there are a lot of Disney characters, but the story is actually quite mature and complex (I doubt a 10 year old would fully understand it). Final Mix isn't just a HD remake from the PS2 version, Square Enix had to recreated the game (they apparently lost some data files). Final Mix has the original KH and a lot of extras. These extras include new: heartless, gummi missions, blueprints, materials, cut scenes, weapons, equipment and a secret boss. Most of the new heartless can't be beaten conventionally by pounding away and the secret boss is no pushover either. I found it to be slightly easier than Sephiroth, but only just a little. Some lvl 3 gummi missions are difficult and requires some practise, but it's doable. The synthesizing part has become a drag, because of the new materials that are needed. I got to lvl 100 and I still needed to farm a lot before I had everything. Just like Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, you can unlock PS3 themes if you get certain trophies. I wish every game would have this feature. :platinum: #77 Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus November 23 2013 Let me start with this: yes Insomniac finally changed the platinum image :yay: . Alright moving on: Into The Nexus concludes the R&C Future series (Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and A Crack In Time). It's shorter than A Crack in Time, but nonetheless it's a great game. It has the usual humor, platforming, crazy weapons and shooting. Other than that there are once again arena matches, gold bolts and skill points that unlock cheats. Qwark, The Plumber, Aphelion, Talwyn, Cronk, Zephyr, Thugs-4-Less and the Smuggler all return (and with him the tasks of collecting stuff from gigantic creatures and his habit for having the equipment that's needed to continue :ninja: ) and the Dimensionator also makes an appearance. The prologue also contains an unexpected twist and after the way too long credits, there's a funny cutscene. Nexus also introduces gravity-based platforming (mostly for the Clank segments). My favorite weapon is the Nightmare Box. It's a jack-in-the-box that unleashes a monster that scares enemies and makes them scream like little 6 year old girls (even the bosses). The RYNO VII has a awesome design and has officially replaced the RYNO 4-ever as my favorite RYNO. A R&C wouldn't be the same without a morph weapon. In Nexus you have the Winterizer: this gun morphs enemies into snowmen. Upgrading this weapon causes the snowmen to drop presents, that can give you either bolts, ammo or nano. On the final planet you visit a museum and you have the opportunity to find out was has happened to all the antagonists of every R&C game. One thing I disliked was the color palette of all the Omega Weapons, these were all gold (because of the gold bolts) like in R&C 1. :platinum: #78 Borderlands December 7 2013 The game is quite interesting at first, but it becomes boring and repetitive later due to the lack of variety in environment and enemies. Some bosses have a funny introduction. There are more than enough weapons, but most of them are useless and don't do a lot of damage. The main characters have great skills, but aren't so memorable. The Zombie Island of Dr Ned DLC introduces some new zombie enemies and has a drastic change in environment, and is my favorite part of the game. The Mad Moxxi Underdome is just a gigantic grind of a grand total of 375 waves of killing enemies (3 100-wave and 3 25-wave challenges). If you die you have to start all over again. I don't know what the developers were thinking when they created this DLC. They must've been really high/stoned/drunk/whatever. It took me about 15-20 hours to finish all waves. The Knoxx DLC has a short story and you'll spend most of your time during that story driving on giant, empty, seemingly endless highroads while avoiding/destroying enemy vehicles once in a while. The Claptrap DLC also has a short story and a lot of different collectibles, which are random drops and the game doesn't keep track of it. It took me about 7 hours to collect them. :platinum: #79 Remember Me December 26 2013 The game has an interesting story: it takes place in the future where technology has made it possible for memories to be removed, deleted, altered, stored and even bought or sold. The M3morize Company (who created the technology and just happens to control law enforcement) promotes the advantages while not mentioning the disadvantages. You play as Nillin, a member or the Errorsist Movement: a resistance group fighting M3morize. At the start of the game Nillin's memories are removed. That forces you to rely on strangers who say they know you and you just have to take their word for it. At first the game portrays things as black and white, while later things become very grey. Some characters aren't as good/bad as you thought, while others are just evil. That's what I liked about this game: some characters do bad things, but once you see their side of the story you realize why they did certain things (cryptic I know, because it's a major spoiler). A very nice addition are the memory remix segments in which you have to alter some memories. You can fast forward, rewind and even pause the memories and alter little details. These changes trigger a domino effect and eventually with the right combination the memories are altered. The combat system takes a while to get used to. You can change combo's by altering the type of attacks. Besides that you'll unlock special attacks during the story. These special attacks are very powerful and requires focus (special energy) to perform and they have a cooldown period. The game is quite doable on hard difficulty, some fights may take a few tries. One major thing I disliked was the fact you lose all your focus when you die. Making retries after that even harder, because you have to refill the focus gauge by either dealing or receiving damage. :platinum: #80 Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations December 30 2013 As a true Naruto fan I read the manga and I watch the anime. I also completed Naruto UN Storm 1 & 2. But I have to say this game sucks big time, it's one big grind from start to finish :( . The story mode is literally copied from Storm 1 & 2, with a few new things like the story of Zabuza and young Kakashi. Besides that there are some non-cannon fights and stories. After the very short stories, you can do some tournaments and survival. The tournaments are somewhat entertaining at first, because it's a new feature for the Naruto Storm series. Survival is basically fight X amount of characters with 1 life, if you die you have to start all over again <_< . After a grand total of 250 survival matches  , you've earned every survival related trophy. After that you need to buy 80% of all images, titles, cards, videos and ninja tools :S . Only the titles and cards are very annoying to get, because these unlock by doing special things. I also tried the online fights and It was surprisingly fun: CyberConnect2 really listened to the complains from Storm 2. You can no longer see which character your opponent selects, wins and losses aren't shown on your card and you can't spam the substitution jutsu (where you teleport behind an opponent when he attacks). It's also possible to download and upload replay's from your fights. I uploaded one fight in which I was nearly defeated, but still managed to win with 4% health remaining :D . :platinum: #81 Borderlands 2 February 2 2014 After playing Borderlands 1 I wasn't very excited to play BL2. However it turned out to be quite entertaining. That's because BL2 has a mini map, a real story with an antagonist, different scenery, a lot of enemies, almost no glitches and hardly any recycled side quests. I also played a lot in co-op mode (thanks for that MrCostari :highfive: ). The Scarlett DLC adds some new areas, pirate enemies and 2 new raid bosses. The second raid boss (Master Gee the Invincible) is a very cheap fight in which you first have to remove his shield by killing acid-spitting sand worms and have Gee walk over the acid pool they leave behind. If Gee doesn't absorbs the acid, it'll fill the entire room and eventually kill you. You can't damage Gee until his shield is gone, so it becomes very boring <_< . In the Torgue DLC you revisit BL1: it has numerous glitches, recycled side quests, boring characters, hardly any story and recycled enemies. This piece of crap should never have been created  . The Hammerlock DLC has a drastic change in scenery (Pandora's version of the Amazon) and only 4 story missions. It also has an overpowered enemy (Witch Doctor) who has way too much health, can heal himself and others and can level up every enemy and himself :shakefist: . I mostly ran past them. The Tina DLC is imo the best dlc: it combines dungeons and dragons with guns and grenades. You fight dragons, dwarves, orcs and other fantasy creatures and the story takes place in a fantasy land. :platinum: #82 Sly Cooper Thieves in Time (PSVITA) April 7 2014 My first Vita plat. This game is even better the second time. Getting the Sparrow Approves trophy was much easier on the vita. I could tap the rear touch pad while playing the game instead of mashing :l3: on the PS3 controller. Because I already platted the game on the PS3, I knew where most of the collectibles were. That reduced the amount of backtracking. The hacking minigames were a little difficult because I still have to get used to the smaller screen. :platinum: #83 Uncharted: Golden Abyss April 14 2014 This game takes place before Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. As usual there's an interesting mystery you have to unravel. But it didn't feel like a real Uncharted until Sully got some screen time (it still wasn't the same without Elena though). The developers could've easily replaced Marisa Chase with Chloe Frazer. Most of the weapons are the same and the trophy images are re-used from Uncharted 2. There are also way too many collectibles (I believe 379 in total) and 141 of them are random drops from enemies. Taking pictures and making charcoal rubbings was a nice change at first, but quickly became boring. Crushing difficulty was way more easier than I expected, at some parts it even felt the same like Hard difficulty. I like to think that's because I've honed my skills over the past years, but that's probably wishful thinking seeing as a lot of people agree that Crushing is far more easier in this game. The boss fights in this game are a series of touchscreen QTE's and they don't always register properly. On Crushing you can't fail a single QTE or else you have to restart the entire fight, so that gave me some trouble. It's too bad you don't get any ingame rewards for beating the game at a certain difficulty. I kind of missed the Doughnut Drake skin. :platinum: #84 Gravity Rush April 21 2014 This game takes the open world experience to a whole new level. You play as Kat: a girl who has lost her memories and can manipulate gravity to walk on walls and ceilings or float through the air, which is a nice concept. The cities are also made up of layers so you can go underneath it to look for gems. The combat was a bit repetitive, an upgraded Gravity Kick and Evade is more than enough to deal with most enemies. The challenges were difficult at first, but once I upgraded all the abilities they became much easier. The DLCs are basically cut content from the main game: for example in the third DLC the players are introduced to Yunica, while at the end of the main game Kat greets Yunica by her name while this isn't mentioned before. Each DLC also contains 2 new challenges that are much harder than the ones from the main game. The Inferno race was by far the most difficult one. I did like how the dlc trophies formed a picture when they're all unlocked. Nonetheless it's a great game and I really advise you to try it. :platinum: #85 The Walking Dead Season 1 April 22 2014 I heard a lot of praise about this game, so I got this game from Sony's Easter Sale. And it turned out to be fantastic. The game presents you with morally difficult choices (for example chop off a leg with an axe to save someone or leave him behind) and I would often think about which one was the lesser evil choice. All choices have an impact on how the story continues and how people treat you. A few requires you to make a split second decision to save one person while the other one dies. In a post-apocalyptic world, I had to think about who was just a burden on scarce resources and who was useful. There was one fat guy with a weak heart and a big temper who was basically sitting at the compound, telling everyone how they screw things up, eating while complaining and being a jerk. I got rid of him the first chance I got. Of course his daughter became very hostile towards me after that and I had to solve that situation. Sometimes I would go for a selfish choice (leaving a random woman who was already bitten running and screaming to attract the zombies to give me more time to collect food and medicines), because I thought no one would find out. However I soon learned that somehow someone would find out and would bring it up during a conversation or an argument. You have to justify most decisions to Clementine (an 8 year old girl who the protagonist looks after). There was also the issue of trusting people, because not everyone has good intentions. At the end of each episode the game shows how many percent of the players made which decision, which is nice to see. The 400 Days DLC is really disappointing, because it tells very, very short stories about 5 new persons and you have to figure out bits and pieces for yourself. However TellTale Games did an amazing job with the main game and I will definitely play season 2. I really recommend this game, because it's a story-based game with gory action, morally complex situations and the impact your choices have on how events unfold. :platinum: #86 Sacred 2: Fallen Angel June 11 2014 So after 4 years I finally managed to get the platinum trophy. The only reason I kept playing this game at first was because I wanted an overall 100% completion percentage on my profile back then. After I gave up on that I only needed three more trophies so I thought I might as well get those too. I didn't like the game, because it's a failed MMORPG port to the consoles with very repetitive gameplay and filled with extremely large, empty areas with the same 5-6 per area (simply put it's a worse version of Borderlands). The reason I bought the game was because the trailer looked really cool and back then I was naive enough to believe a CGI trailer for actual gameplay. To get the platinum you have to play as all 6 classes, find a lot of hidden and random drop crap and play through the game 4 times with the same character to unlock the highest difficulty and 2 times for both the dark and light ending. The reason I went for this platinum again was because another games gave me a complete armor set and helped me get to the highest difficulty. So I'd like to thank SobirisArunbirok for all the help, because without you I most likely never would've gotten this trophy :highfive: . Now I can finally donate this game to the shooting range so people can use it for target practise. :platinum: #87 XCOM: Enemy Unknown June 22 2014 In the year 2015 aliens have started a full scale invasion and are attacking mankind. In response 16 countries have joined forces and created the XCOM project, which stands for eXtraterrestrials COMbat. You are the commander of the base and you direct the missions and decide what should be researched, build and upgraded. You also choose which countries to help and panic will rise or decrease in countries that you didn't help or helped. If 8 or more countries leave the XCOM project, because their panic got too high it's game over. During the campaign you encounter and kill aliens and research the recovered materials and artefacts. Gradually you can develop better weapons, armor, facilities, upgrades and vehicles to combat the aliens. As the invasion continues, the aliens are bringing in more, better and stronger enemies. So even if you don't continue the story, you will still encounter these upgraded aliens. The game is quite interesting to play. You can use the environment to your advantage (i.e. shooting from an elevated position, or blowing up a car where an alien is hiding for extra damage). Soldiers gain xp by killing aliens and can earn promotions, when this happens they gain a permanent boost to their will, aim and health and learn a new skill. There are 4 types of soldiers: snipers, assaults, heavies and support. Snipers deal severe damage, assaults are basically scouts, heavies carry a rocket launcher and supports are medics. Midway through the story you also gain the ability to turn soldiers into psionics. When that happens these soldiers can deal psychic damage or even mind control aliens. To complete missions with no casualties, you need to use strategies and tactics. It took me 3 playthroughs to refine my strategy. :platinum: #88 Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 July 4 2014 A fun and easy platformer, though completing every quest and collecting all 176 pins sure was tedious. The controls are a little wonky at times, but I enjoyed the game. You also have to defeat bosses in different ways if you're good of evil, which is a great feature. It's nice to see some Disney characters that didn't quite make it. It was also amusing to play through some classic cartoons like Night On Bald Mountain. :platinum: #89 Dark Souls July 7 2014 After playing the amazing Demon's Souls I just had to get this one. The story is very vague, but the fights are very entertaining. Invaders also add an element of surprise and dealing with other players is fun because I got to test my strategy and playstyle against an unknown enemy who doesn't suffer from A.I. restrictions and can't be exploited that easily. The covenants and humanity are nice additions and the game is an open world. A lot of people told me the Four Kings boss fight is the hardest fight in the entire game, but I managed to defeat it on my first try in NG and NG+ :D . For me the hardest boss was Manus from the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. The DLC bosses are more aggressive and difficult to stagger, therefore I found them harder than the main game's bosses. My favorite boss fight is against Ornstein & Smough, because it's 2 against 1 and that fight has an awesome soundtrack. My favorite armor sets are the Artorias and Ornstein armors, though the Lord Blade Ciaran's set looks pretty neat too. The 'Link to the Fire' ending was a big anti-climax to such an epic journey. I prefer the badass 'Dark Lord' ending. I really recommend this game to everyone. Don't let the difficulty stop you, because the game has a reasonable learning curve. Other than that you just have to observe and learn enemy attack patterns and the movements or sounds they make before an attack and once you get the hang of the controls, the game becomes easy. I'm definitely going to get Dark Souls II :platinum: #90 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag July 12 2014 This game is awesome and has replaced Assassin's Creed II as my favorite AC game. You can attack ships and either incapacitate and board them or send the ship and the crew to Davy Jones' Locker and receive only half of the loot. It feels really epic when you have naval battle against a fleet during a storm with lightning flashes in the background, while trying to avoid being sucked into waterspouts and facing rogue waves and dealing with barrages of cannon fire, fire barrel mines and mortars (and also trying to listen to the amazing soundtrack). Another epic thing is storming a fortress while it's being bombarded with cannon fire and you run through the battlefield trying to kill the commanders with the occasional explosions around you. It was also a lot of fun to watch the Britsh and Spanish ships weaken each other and then swoop in and board them. I managed to capture 3 Men o' War, 1 Frigate, 1 Brig and 2 Schooners in one battle. Your own ship (the Jackdaw) can also be upgraded to take on bigger ships and eventually the legendary ships. My personal difficulty rating from easiest to hardest battle is La Dama Negra, the twin ships HMS Fearless and HMS Royal Sovereign, the ghost ship HMS Prince (I barely survived it) and El Impoluto. El Impoluto took me 6 tries, while I managed to destroy the other 3 on the first try. Each ship also has a different strategy and I generally took down ships by circling around them while firing the mortar, broadside cannons and the swivelgun. That's probably why I found La Dama Negra the easiest of the 4. Also on a side note, I liked Julien du Casse's hat. I really wanted it for Edward as a customization item. Ubisoft really made a wonderful pirate experience which include a treasure beyond your wildest dreams, betrayals, a prison break, payback and the everlasting war between the Templars and Assassins. The mp was a boring grind as always, but this time I was lucky and did it during a double xp weekend. Getting from lvl 1 to 55 took around 11 hours and after that I ran around with the copycat perk waiting to be killed to get every ability and ranged weapon. :platinum: #91 Saints Row IV July 24 2014 After Saints Row The Third I was really looking forward to this game, However this game is disappointing. The main story is very short, the character graphics seem worse than SR3, the game freezes every 2 hours, there are about 1300 collectibles, it also has annoying glitch and lag effects that happen once every 5-10 seconds and my eyes hurt from the way too bright lasers making it hard to spot the enemies. I also finished the game and the DLC in about 28 hours, so I had to wait another 12 hours to get the pointless fourth and forty (SR5 better not have a fifth and fifty trophy). I'm really hoping all this is because THQ was bankrupt and they needed to earn money fast. Sure you have superpowers, but those get boring and repetitive fast. I did like all the Mass Effect references and the final mission reminded me a lot of the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2. Even Captain Anderson was in the game. The 'Enter The Dominatrix' DLC shows some of the plans for the canceled SR3 DLC and is an interview with the characters during which you play a few missions while listening to their comments. And after the "What the hell is this crap" ending (that makes no sense at all) I got my beloved VTOL jet back  . The 'How The Saints Saved Christmas' DLC is very amusing, but also very short. In this DLC you have to save Christmas and the future by defeating Clawz (an evil Santa Claus). :platinum: #92 The Wolf Among Us July 28 2014 After waiting for months I finally played this game. And TellTale made another masterpiece. The game is set in the 1980's where fairy tale creatures live in the human world and disguise themselves to look like humans. You play as Bigby Wolf, who is the big bad wolf from Red Ridinghood and the Three Little Pigs. You're the sheriff and it's your job to ensure the other fairy tale creatures follow the rules and don't reveal their existence to humanity. I didn't know anything about the Fables series, so everything was new for me. It was somewhere between episode 3 and 4 that I understood the problems of the fairy tale society and after that I tried to solve them. The game has an awesome story and a lot of great WTF moments and plot twists. And now I want to know what will happen next, because the episode 5 ending is a big cliffhanger. I also liked the parts where you investigate a crime scene and try to solve and connect the events. I won't go into details, because it will spoil something so please bear with me. I absolutely recommend this game to everyone who likes a game with a awesome and well written story, where your choices determine how events unfold. :platinum: #93 Tomb Raider Anniversary August 17 2014 I've never played a Tomb Raider game before, so I bought the TR HD collection after playing Uncharted. I was expecting something similar and was heavily disappointed at first. When I gave it another try, I really liked it. The emphasis lies on exploration and solving puzzles and not on shooting, which was a nice change from usual games. The locations are interesting, hard mode is very doable and there aren't that much collectibles. But some of the time trials are very unforgiving (looking at you St. Francis' Folly and Sanctuary of the Scion). I ran out of time during the final swing before the end of the level in Sanctuary of the Scion, so I had to replay 20 minutes. Most of the time I died, because the controls don't respond. The graphics are a little disappointing, but it's understandable because it's a remake from the PS2 game, which in turn is a remake from the PS1 version. You even unlock the PS1 version skin and after seeing that one, the graphics suddenly looked very good. :platinum: #94 Tomb Raider Legend August 17 2014 This game has a lot more shooting parts than TR Anniversary. I'd say it's about 65% shooting. The story is very interesting, because you also get to explore Lara's past. The final boss was very difficult on hard mode. The locations are very diverse, there are more collectibles, the time trials are easier and Lara looks better then in TR Anniversary (especially in the ripped evening dress skin :eyebrow:, though I preferred the Biker outfit). :platinum: #95 Tomb Raider Underworld August 17 2014 This game is set one week after the TR Legend ending and also deals with some things from TR Anniversary. The story didn't make much sense until I read all the journal entries. These give a lot of crucial background information. The graphics are far better than TR Legend and it's about 65% exploring. In this game you can dive to ruins and explore them for treasures, which is a nice change. Imo there are too many collectibles, but after you complete the game you can play Treasure Hunter Mode. In this mode there are no enemies and the puzzles have been solved so you can focus on collecting everything. TR Underworld has no time trials (thankfully) and Lara looks even better than in TR Legend. It's really a shame the developers didn't show her entire face on the platinum trophy image. :platinum: #96 Puppeteer August 17 2014 This game has a very unique approach: it's a 2d side scrolling puppet play and you're controlling the main character in this fairy tale. Long ago 3 years ago in a kingdom far, far away (on the moon) the Moon Goddess ruled just and kept the balance between light and dark with the Moon Crystal. But then a moon bear stole Calibrus, which is the strongest weapon ever created and also functions as a pair of scissors. He claimed the Dark Moon crystal for himself and shattered the Light Moon Crystal and gave a piece to each of his 12 generals. After that he named himself the Moon Bear King and started stealing souls from the children of Earth. The game is divided into 7 acts and each act has 3 curtains (levels). Each act also has a different theme and setting. My favorite one was the 'Nightmare before Christmas' Halloween setting. There are far too many collectibles (700+ in total) and the game keeps track of most of them. Luckily there's an excellent collectible guide here on PSNProfiles.com. :platinum: #97 Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 August 17 2014 This game is the best one in the Storm series so far. As always the fights between Naruto and Sasuke are epic. CyberConnect2 really puts a lot of effort into these fights and the Naruto vs Sasuke boss fight is even better then the anime (which is extremely rare for a game) with a fitting soundtrack. During boss fights you can choose 2 paths: Hero or Legend. Legend is somewhat more difficult, but after upgrading the Hero level you can use better items. Also during boss fights there are secret actions that trigger exact re-enactments from the manga/anime. Since I'm a huge Naruto fan, I had no problem triggering these actions. Some major fights in the manga/anime are just regular battles in the game, instead of epic boss battles (which is really disappointing). The Full Burst DLC expands the story and adds another epic boss fight (and 100 challenge missions) This boss battle is by far the hardest one to achieve a S-rank rating. Completing this battle and the 100 challenges also unlocks 12 themes for the XMB menu. :platinum: #98 Assassin's Creed Liberation HD August 19 2014 In AC Liberation you play as the female assassin Aveline de Grandpré. She has a few new weapons like the whip, a blowpipe and a parasol that shoots darts. Also new is the ability to change into different outfits (Assassin, Lady and Slave). Each outfit has its perks and disadvantages. Getting 100% sync on every story mission is also very easy and there is no multiplayer :yay: . The story is quite vague and the pop up messages during the loading screen gives some background information that explains the events that happened between each sequence. There's no fast travel, which is especially annoying with the slow Lady outfit. The game is very short for an Assassin's Creed game and there are a lot of collectibles. 3 kinds of collectibles can only be collected if you wear the correct outfit. :platinum: #99 The Walking Dead Season 1 PS3 August 20 2014 I played this game again, because it's a great game and I was in a trophy hunting competition. For an extensive description please read :platinum: #85. :platinum: #100 Persona 4 Golden August 21 2014 The game opens with a student transferring to a school in the village of Inaba for a year and during the trip you have a strange dream in which a man tells you this year marks a great change in your destiny and you'll be facing a problem. Failing to solve this in time will have catastrophic consequences. During your time in Inaba people disappear and end up murdered. You discover something and set out to investigate. I know this is cryptic, but I don't want to spoil anything. You can choose what to do after school and during the weekends and should you fail to solve the mysteries in time to continue the story, it's game over. I wasn't planning on making this game :platinum: #100 at first. However, once I started playing I became addicted to it. The story is mindblowing, the main characters are well-written, there are a lot of choices you can make which greatly adds to the replay value. It's impossible to experience everything in 1 playthrough and there's also content that's only available in NG+ (provided you got the true ending). Some things carry over to NG+, but your level is also reset. But that doesn't matter, because you can still use high leveled personas you fused during NG. One soundtrack I really like is the alternate version of 'I'll Face Myself'. The only thing I didn't like was to get 250 different lines from Rise. Because it's not clear which lines count and I had to grind lines by getting status ailments on every party member and getting defeated on purpose. Other than that, this is one of the best games I've ever played in my life and by far the best VITA game (and actually also the reason I got a VITA in the first place). :platinum: 101 - 125 :platinum: #101 Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch August 27 2014 A lot of people recommended this game to me, because I enjoy RPGs. They said the story is great with amazing graphics and funny moments. Well, imo it's not. The first few hours feel like a tutorial. Drippy is extremely annoying and just won't shut up. The story is mediocre, characters aren't memorable, side quests are recycled over and over again and getting 120 recipes + 250 familiars is a big pain in the @$$. It took me 28 hours of grinding to get 5 Kaleidostones and 5 Scrolls of truth for the final errand and I never seemed to get the familiar I needed for Derwin's quests. Fixing brokenhearted people was fun at first, but quickly becomes boring. But people were right about one thing: the game does look beautiful. :platinum: #102 Dragon's Crown August 29 2014 A great sidescrolling RPG with an interesting story. You can choose from 6 classes and switch between characters on the same save file, which is a great feature. The locations and bosses are very diverse and the game also has a lot of references (for example the Killer Rabbit and Rickey the magician's apprentice). The side quests involves finding hidden rooms/items and defeating bosses under certain conditions. The levels also have runes in the background and when you purchase the 4 rune stones you can create a combination for various effects. I really liked this feature and it makes you pay attention to the background. Completing the game with each class and doing all the side quests unlock a piece of art. These are quite nice to look at. After completing the game you unlock a harder difficulty and the Labyrinth of Chaos. These are 24 randomly created levels and the 25th is a boss battle against the Demon King. This fight is very frustrating, because the Demon King spams every kind of magic and summons an infinite army of demons and skeletons. Also a huge thank you to GarciaFever for helping me with the speed kills and leveling up :highfive: . :platinum: #103 Thief September 7 2014 I've never played the first 3 Thief games, so the story was somewhat confusing and mediocre. Also there's a chapter that feels like something from a horror game and really doesn't fit. The stealth part is nicely done and is one of the best I've seen. Most of the times it's obvious how to go to your objective without alerting enemies, but you have to explore a bit to find the best paths. It's also great to explore The City, because you'll always find some treasure, loot or item. Garrett has almost no close combat skills, so a stealthy approach is necessary. You can kill or knock out guards. There's also a special ocular ability called 'focus'. At first this highlights loot and interactable objects and can later be upgraded to enhance your other skills. The diversity in arrows is also great. For example you have a water arrow to extinguish torches, fire arrows to ignite oil barrels to create a distraction and many more. Master custom difficulty is quite a challenge, because enemies spot you very easily and reloading too often causes them to glitch and stop patrolling. Most of the times this makes it harder to get past them, but a non-lethal knock to the head with a blunt arrow causes them to investigate and patrol again. The Thief-Taker General also glitched and just stood there while I turned the valves and picked the lock (best glitch ever B) ). :platinum: #104 Dead Space 3 October 18 2014 I've heard a lot about the Dead Space series and always wanted to try it. But like with Dragon Age II and Mass Effect 3, EA changed to series to an action oriented game to earn more money. Thus the horror/survivor part wasn't really there. It's basically another shooter. Crafting and changing weapons was a lot if fun. scavenging for resources made it feel a little like a survivor game. Cutting of limbs is also a nice addition. The background story from Dead Space 1 & 2 is explained in a special 'the story so far' video. Classic difficulty was the most annoying for me, because I couldn't upgrade my weapons. After that I used the Devil Horns for Pure Survival and Hardcore mode. During Hardcore I only died twice: once during the space chase in chapter 2 and once during the ambush in chapter 15 when I took a rocket to the knee. The Awakened DLC has some horror elements. I like the parts where you fight enemies that aren't really there. The DLC ending was very impressive and now I really want a Dead Space 4 to know what will happen. Also I'd like to thank Mr_Freaker for helping me with all the co-op trophies in the main game :highfive: . :platinum: #105 Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories November 8 2014 I've played this game on the Gameboy Advance years ago and the HD remake plays a lot smoother. For example you can now dodge properly. Playing the game once with each character was ok. But getting this plat was mostly a grindfest: playing the game 6 times on every difficulty, grinding both characters to lvl 99, collecting every card, creating 300 rooms, editing a deck 500 times, obtaining over 300 battle cards, using over 20,000 Moogle points at the shops. There's hardly any story, almost everything is recycled from Kingdom Hearts. Only 8 characters and 2 worlds were new. :platinum: #106 Dragon Age: Inquisition February 23 2015 A great sequel to Dragon Age 2. There are a lot of good things like: areas aren't recycled, there are new enemies, decisions have a greater impact, the new companions are diverse and interesting, Qunari race is playable, the story has some great plot twists, and companions from previous DA games returned. You can also explore a lot and it's great to find some powerful armor or weapon as a reward. It's also great to create a new world state and see how events unfold in a different way. The crafting system has been improved and expanded. You can now create a weapon/armor and craft upgrades to improve different parts and add runes for extra damage. A few flaws are: the antagonist is a disappointment, the game freezes, it takes a while to load an area, Nightmare difficulty is hard at first, but becomes much easier once you progress through the game, learn better abilities, and get better equipment. Killing 10 high dragons glitched on me and I had to reload the final high dragon fight twice and save the game so I got it after killing 12 of them. The epilogue is also a huge cliffhanger and I can't wait for Dragon Age 4 to see what happens next. A few soundtracks that I liked in this game are Adamant Fortress and The Inquisition Marches. :platinum: #107 Clannad March 1 2015 My first visual novel game. I've always wanted to try a VN and what better game to use than one of my favorite anime. The story is about Tomoya Okazaki, who has a difficult childhood and lost his mother during an accident when he was very young. His father raised him alone and also had to deal with the loss of his wife. Tomoya is a delinquent who hates his life. One day he meets Nagisa. Tomoya tries to help her and during the events he meets several other people whom he befriends and helps. During the course of the story Tomoya faces numerous hardships while growing up. The game has a branching storyline, a lot of funny moments, and there are multiple endings. After clearing the events from high school, the After Story becomes available. During this part events from the next 7 years are shown. After helping everyone, the true ending becomes available during which a miracle occurs. One soundtrack I like a lot is Nagisa's theme. I recommend the anime to everyone, as it's a true masterpiece. Also I'd like to thank Boooda and Kochiya-Shana for their help. :platinum: #108 Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII April 29 2015 And with this I've platted the entire FFXIII trilogy B) . I finally got around to play this and I must say it's very different compared to FFXIII and XIII-2. For example there is only 1 playable character, you can only gain stat boosts by completing quests (which makes fighting unnecessary), and there are no summons. In this game the world will be destroyed in 13 days and Lightning has been chosen by the god Bhunivelze to become the savior and save the souls of humans. During the game time is running out and you can use Chronostasis to freeze the clock to do everything you want. Should you save enough souls (meaning complete at least 50 side quests), you can give the world one more day (14 in total). On this extra day you can enter the Ultimate Lair to fight some of the strongest enemies. Ereshkigal is the strongest enemy and defeating it earns you 2 gold trophies :awesome:. Another superboss is Aeronite, I challenged this boss on NG+ after upgrading my weapons + shields and doing all the main and side quests again to gain some stat boosts. I do like how you can equip so many different garbs and adornments on Lightning. I even found Lightning's Shades from the intro movie, but it looked really lame in the cutscenes so I replaced it with the Raven Mask. It's a shame you don't get XMB themes anymore like in XIII and XIII-2. But if you have a save file from those games you can unlock Lightning's outfits as garbs. The Knight of Etro garb from 13-2 is still one of my favorites and I've used it during both of my playthroughs. :platinum: #109 Resistance: Burning Skies May 5 2015 The Resistance games on the PS3 are ok, but nothing special. This Vita game however is mediocre at best. In this game you play as firefighter Tom Riley (with no military training whatsoever) and kill hordes of Chimera . The game throws some characters at you and expects you to care for them, while you've only seen them once or twice. Afterwards the developers put some sad things in it and tried to make you care (which completely failed). Checkpoints are placed in weird locations. There are 8 weapons, but most are useless. The Bullseye used to be such a great weapon and it's completely nerfed in this game. And assault rifle ammo is very scarce. Before enemies die, they show the 'knocking back' animation, which makes it unclear whether you actually killed them or not. Aiming sucks too and I usually shot without zooming in. Also I'd like to thank fellow PSNP member Yadilie for helping out with the mp trophy :highfive:, since the servers are almost dead. I'm so glad I got this during a sale for €5, because it's not worth to pay more than this. :platinum: #110 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist June 5 2015 I always enjoy stealth games and was in the mood for a shooter too, so Splinter Cell Blacklist was a good choice for that. You can play the game in 3 ways: completely stealth through the levels without disturbing enemies, stealthly kill enemies, and guns blazing. That added a lot to the replay value. Completing the game on the hardest difficulty was challenging, because enemies are alerted very quickly and you die after 2-3 hits. The hardest enemy are the dogs, because they can smell you from miles away and will alert everyone. But sometimes there were also amazing short cuts that allows you to bypass entire groups of enemies with minimal difficulty. The mp was surprisingly entertaining too when I wasn't all alone against an entire team of experts. And most mp trophies can be done solo in a private match. Also I'd like to thank FilmFanatic for helping me with the 10 mp assists. :platinum: #111 Super Exploding Zoo September 13 2015 Finally after more than 3 months the platinum drought has ended . A lot of people recommended this game to me and after trying it, I agree it's a fun game. In this game you have to defeat all aliens before they attack the eggs. You can recruit sleeping animals to your horde and use them as kamikaze infantry to kill all aliens. Almost all animals have a special ability too. For example, lamas can mount special objects and use their spit as a mortar attack. Lions can use the same objects and roar to strike fear into nearby aliens, thus severely slowing them down. Most levels are easy to complete, but some of them really requires some planning. The mp trophies are a buggy mess and some of them won't always pop (I played the Vita version) even when you meet the requirements. And I got the trophy for using rhinos without having a rhino in my horde  . That being said, I'd like to thank STFUxDxD for boosting the trophies with me. :platinum: #112: Sound Shapes October 2 2015 I've always wanted to try out Sound Shapes and the International Day on Non-Violence event seemed like a good excuse to do so. The campaign is meh at best, Beat School Mode made me wonder why that was even there, and Death Mode is just really cheap. About 90% of the time I'd have to wait to get lucky so that it was possible to finish the levels within the time limit, because the nodes spawn randomly. When I did get a lucky run, I'd die most of the time because of all the obstacles moving around on the screen. For a non-violence event, this game made me rage a lot and in hindsight I really should've chosen another game. :platinum: #113: Ys Memories of Celceta October 31 2015 Oh yeah, I've finally popped this one. In this game Adol goes to explore the great Celcetan forest and two weeks later he's found again with amnesia. The game revolves around exploring the forest and finding out what happened to Adol, which involves events from 800 years ago when the Kingdom of Celceta was suddenly destroyed. The story is great and there are some plot twists here and there. The characters are ok too. The gameplay is different from the average JRPG: you can run, dodge, guard, and attack freely and enemies are roaming around too. Take the wrong turn and you can have a horde of enemies chasing you. This game was so much fun, I even wrote a guide about it. The reason it took so long to plat was because I joined Superbuu's We Play Ys. And today we finally finished it. :platinum: #114: Tales of Hearts R November 24 2015 Holy $#!t, would you look at that plat image. It's so beautiful, I wish every developer would put that much effort into creating a plat. Anyway on to my thoughts about the game. This is my first Tales of game and it was amazing. The story, characters, humour, and interactions are all great. Just when I thought the story was nearing its end, a new plot twist would be revealed and that kept me interested. These plot twists were believable and fit in the overarching story. Each party member has his/her own quirks and that guarantees some hilarious situations. Hisui's attitude did annoy me a bit, because he's too protective and obsessed with hit sister, though it's explained why later in the game. The grinding isn't that bad compared to other JRPGs and the balloon mini-game wasn't as annoying as I thought it would be. I definitely recommend this game to everyone who likes a well-written story. I'll definitely try out more Tales of games in the future. :platinum: #115: Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc January 1 2016 Hope's Peak Academy: the best and most prestigious school in Japan where the best and brightest minds are allowed to enter. You don't ask to study here, you get asked. Once you graduate, you're set for life. The headmaster does his best to motivate the students and to provide incentives. The school has state of the art facilities. And students are fully commited once they are chosen and live in the school until graduation. In fact no one is allowed to leave until they graduate and the only way to do so ... is to murder a fellow student, frame someone else, and get away with it. Wait, what!? You read it correct, because Hope's Peak's headmaster Monokuma has turned this prestigious school into a sadistic game where 16 students are trapped and being monitored 24/7. After a murder takes place, the remaining students have to investigate and look for clues for the class trial. During a class trial the students try to reconstruct what happened and find the murderer. Failing to do so will result in the murderer to "graduate" and go home, while the innocent students are executed. If the murderer has been discovered, he or she is executed and the game begins again. Not knowing who to trust, constantly living in fear, and no contact with the outside world takes a toll on the everyone. The story is really great and the evil mastermind was quite a shock to discover. Obtaining all gifts and seeing all School Mode endings was a boring grind and I'm not looking forward to do that again in Danganronpa 2. Still the good far outweighs the bad. :platinum: #116: Virtue's Last Reward January 1 2016 Virtue's Last Reward has an amazing story, the puzzles are challenging, and the characters are great (Zero jr is by far the best character). Sometimes it gets a bit boring to see the same scene 9 times with only a few small changes (like character names), which means the dialogue can't be skipped because it counts as a "new" scene. It's a bit annoying to play a route, only to encounter a story lock. That means you have to do other routes and come back when you have the necessary information to continue. When that happened, I often forgot the major events from the route with the story lock after doing a few other routes. At first things don't make sense, but during the True Ending route everything comes together and suddenly it all makes sense. I'm really looking forward to the sequel to find out what happens next. :platinum: #117 Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus January 1 2016 I first played this game because of the amazing "plot" and was surprised to find out it had an actual plot too. The game can get a bit repetitive with the limited environments and enemies and the story was a bit hard to follow, because it's divided in 4 parts. Based on which group you're playing, events happen in a different order, while some events are new or don't happen, adding to the confusion. Homura is by far the best character with her background story, attitude, weapons, and fighting style. I really liked slicing and dicing through hordes of enemies with 6 katanas. :platinum: #118: Grim Fandango Remastered January 1 2016 I've heard a lot of good things about Grim Fandango and wanted to try it out. The story is funny and interesting with a lot of humour and the puzzles can be quite uhm ... puzzling. However, the tank controls are terrible. Half of the time Manny didn't go where I wanted him to, especially when going to another area. Glottis can be annoying most of the times when trying to figure out what to do next, while he's constantly yelling or making car noises in the background and I had to mute the sound more than once. :platinum: #119: Conception II Children of the Seven Stars January 1 2016 After hearing Conception II was similar to Persona 4 Golden, I became interested in this game. It does have some similar events, but it's imo not even close to P4G's league. The story is interesting, but the combat is repetitive and quickly gets boring. Star Children also have a level cap and you need to create new ones for every chapter. This wouldn't be such a drag if stronger Star Children started at a higher level, but they don't. Every Star Child starts at lvl 1, which means revisiting dungeons from previous chapters to do more boring fighting and level them up so you're strong enough to make it through the current dungeon. This repeats itself during all 8 chapters. Besides the combat, there's also the bonding part. You can choose between 7 heroines and each one of them has her own unique story. I liked most of the stories, which is rare. Feene, Chloe, and Fuuko are my favourites. Though Chloe's ending seemed a bit lacking compared to the other 2. After getting all the endings, you can unlock a harem ending where all 7 heroines end up with the main character (and they're all ok with it). :platinum: #120: Freedom Wars January 1 2016 In the year 102,014 mankind has been forced to live in city-states. The surface can no longer sustain the population, which makes food and resources very scarce. People are sentenced to 1,000,000 years for not contributing and are forced to fight other Sinners and Abductors (large robots that abduct scientists). Here's where the monster hunting part comes in: it's possible to sever different parts from Abductors and remove their weapons and armour, which makes fights easier. Weapons can also be upgraded and there are a lot of possibilities. However, the random material drops forced me to farm specific materials. I liked the story, but the end was half-assed: the story suddenly ends and not much is explained. In fact it raises more questions instead of giving answers. Here's hoping a sequel will be announced soon. Successfully completing missions lowers the sentence and the Jakarta special operation is great for quickly reducing the sentence. I liked this game so much I reduced the sentence all the way to 0 years. I also like to thank theguytom for helping out with the co-op missions :highfive:. :platinum: #121: Demon Gaze January 1 2016 Another dungeon crawler, but unlike Diablo it's far less repetitive. You are a Demon Gazer and have the power to tame demons that have taken over the world. The story is really amazing and there are 7 other classes to choose from. You can add up to 4 party members and have 3 reserve members. Demon bosses can be used as summons and those have very powerful effects. My favourites are Mars and Venus, though I usually went with Mars, Chronos, and Neptune for their attack, defense, and health boost. After beating the story, there's some postgame content (including a new demon and a superboss). Getting the Muramasa and Big Muramasa was quite a grind though. It took about 2-3 hours to get them. Nevertheless, this game is one of my favourite Vita games. :platinum: #122: Tales from the Borderlands January 1 2016 To be honost I didn't have high expectations for this game (due to the huge disappointment from the first Borderlands game), but this one is amazing. The story, characters, humour, music, conversations, and locations are all amazing. The story takes place after Borderlands 2, leads up to the events from The Pre-Sequel, and there are also events that happen after that. In this game Rhys is a huge fan of Handsome Jack and dreams to follow in his footsteps. Fiona is a con-artist and scams people to make a living. These two people meet when Rhys tries to buy a Vault Key for 10 million dollar. The game didn't end where I expected it and goes on to show what happened to every character. Collecting money as Fiona opens up some new options and it's also possible to buy new skins. Telltale delivered yet another masterpiece and imo this is their best work so far, I really hope there will be a sequel. Also Butt Stallion finally makes an appearance in this game. :platinum: #123: Game of Thrones January 1 2016 I was really looking forward to this game. However, this game isn't as good as I'd hoped. The story revolves around house Forrester, who fought for Robb Stark in the War of the Five Kings. The Red Wedding happens at the start of the story (Robb and most of his armies are slaughtered during the wedding at the Twins). Lord Forrester is also killed, but passes a message to Gerard Tuttler. Now that the Boltons are the new wardens, his bannermen can do whatever they want. So the Whitehills want to take everything from the Forresters. The Forresters try to keep that from happening. Mira tries to do what she can in King's Landing, Ascher assembles an army in Essos, Gerard goes on a secret mission to the North Grove, while the remaining Forresters deal with the Whitehills in Ironrath. characters from the series make an appearance (and are also voiced by the actors) and events like the Red Wedding, Purple Wedding, and liberation of Mereen are also included. Telltale managed to capture the essence of Game of Thrones, but the story is lacking and poorly at times. For example just when things are finally going in the right direction, everything goes back to square one very late in the story. The explanation from the traitor also makes no sense and some choices don't carry over properly. The ending leaves a To Be Continued feeling and a season 2 has been announced. So here's hoping things will work out. :platinum: #124: Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 January 1 2016 My first Hyperdimension Neptunia game, I've heard a lot about the series and always wanted to try it. The characters are funny, there are quite some humorous scenes, and the fourth wall gets broken in great ways. However, the story is nothing spectacular, areas are recycled too much, and enemies are mostly palette swaps. Focusing on raising the AVD stat becomes really OP, because enemies will miss a lot. I also tried to get the less AP needed passive skill, so I could spam the most powerful combos every turn, which felt really satisfying. The Conquest Ending was really sad, but that made the True Ending so much better. I still think the story could've been more fleshed out. :platinum: #125: Dragon Fantasy Book II January 1 2016 After playing this game, the events from the first game finally make sense. The developer did a great job with that. I'm also very glad the random encounters were removed, these were terrible in the first game and happened every 2-3 seconds when exploring. The story brings the characters from the first game together, while also introducing new ones. It also hints to a sequel, with a very subtle teaser in Crescent Cove. Wait where are you going, this isn't the end of my checklist. The rest is in the second post. . Edited February 26, 2019 by BlindMango
Popular Post Dragon-Archon
hidden message #1 126 - 150 #126: Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands January 1 2016 Forgotten Sands definitely has the best graphics in the game (especially the djinn world), but the story is pretty meh and the combat is by far the easiest in the game. I never got enough from kicking enemies from ledges though. The new "freezing water" and "launch yourself at an enemy" powers are great, although the developers overdid it with the water puzzles near the end of the game. The last parts of the game dragged on way too much. Upgrading all those skills was a grind too, but luckily I found out there was a Uplay reward that gave a few skill points. #127: Diablo III January 1 2016 Diablo is an entertaining game, albeit a quite repetitive dungeon crawler. Difficulties don't stack, so it's necessary to complete the game 4 times. Luckily areas and events are randomly generated, so that adds some variety. Exploring is also rewarded, because most of the time you'll find some good loot or a treasure goblin (which are basically walking treasure chests). There are 5 classes to choose from in the vanilla version and I played as a Wizard, who has some badass spells. However, going for the plat means a lot of pointless gold farming at the end to pick up 5 million gold. You have to pick this up yourself and gold obtained from selling items, completing quests, or from other players doesn't count. To put things in perspective: I had a little over 1.5 million gold after 4 playthroughs (and I was already exploring a lot to find gold). Which meant I had to farm gold for around 35 hours on higher difficulties. When reaching Paragon levels (which is lvl 61 and higher), the gold find and magic find increases with 3% for every level, so on the long run that really helps. #128: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance January 1 2016 I've never played a Metal Gear game before, so I was really looking forward to this (even though it's just a spin-off game). Having played other games from developer Platinum Games, I knew it was action-packed and had a lot of epic stuff. And the game did not disappoint. It also has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard and my favourites are It Has To Be This Way and The Only Thing I Know For Real. Playing as a cyborg ninja that can slice pretty much anything never gets old. Most attacks can be parried and those that can't can be evaded. The trick is to memorize enemy attack patterns. After beating the game, you unlock a lot of amazing gear. Using these makes the playthroughs on the higher difficulties very doable. Most of the VR Missions are doable within a few tries, but some of them are really hard. Beating the game on Revengeance difficulty with all S ranks was quite a challenge, especially the Monsoon boss fight. Perfect parrying and QTEs also do more damage on higher difficulties, which really surprised me. So the fights are actually easier if you can dodge and parry attacks. I definitely recommend this game and the learning curve is very reasonable. #129: Zombie Driver HD January 9 2016 I'm so glad I got this game from a PSN sale for a few euros, because it's not worth more than that. A nameless city suddenly became infected with a mysterious disease and is now overrun by zombies. This is a very mediocre game, the story mode has 31 missions with a briefing and result screen. It's obvious the army is just using you to do their dirty work. The missions get really cheap later on when exploding zombies are almost everywhere. These deal massive damage when you're near one. The Railgun is handsdown the best weapon to deal with them, The races are terrible since the game has a top-down view, my attention was divided between watching the minimap and the screen for obstacles and invisible walls at corners. More than once I'd hit an invisible wall and end up losing the race. Slaughter mode is just a survival mode with endless zombies. Like in the story mode, exploding zombies will swarm you in the later waves. All in all a fun game if you like to kill zombies infinitely and want to race, but I wouldn't pay more than €2-€3. #130: Monster Monpiece January 10 2016 This game reminds me a lot of Yugioh, which I enjoyed a lot. The goal is to hit your opponent's base to reduce their life points to zero. Monsters are divided in 4 categories (melee, ranged, buffer, and healer) and can be summoned using mana. Mana regenerates each turn and it's possible to get bonus mana when summoning monsters from the same colour 3 times in a row. Fusions are also possible to give the stats to another monster of the same type. A unique feature is upgrading cards by rubbing them. The mp trophies are easily boostable, because you can just forfeit the match. It took almost 2 hours to do 200 matches, but I didn't mind that because you get cards too. Some of these cards are exclusive to the mp, which sucks since the offline AI almost always starts with these to get lots of mana and reduce my mana. A few concept arts I liked are Red Dragon, Fia, and Ouroboros. #131: Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed January 17 2016 Akiba has been overrun by manmade vampires and only the neighbourhood watch Freedom Fighters can stop them. The only way to do that is by stripping their clothes and let the sun burn them. This game has a lot of character custumization, you can take clothes and weapons from anyone and wear it or use it to upgrade your own equipment. What I like about this is that there is no best equipment, that way you can wear whatever you like. Anything can become the best equipment by upgrading it to lvl 999, which is easy to do once you're near the end of the game and enemies drop lvl 100+ equipment. The story is also ok and it branches into 5 different outcomes depending on your affection. This does mean it's necessary to complete it at least 4 times to get the true ending for each heroine. Luckily it's easy to speedrun through it in around 3 hours after upgrading your equipment and playing on Easy. The combat is really simple and doesn't change much. This becomes a bit boring during the later playthroughs. It also takes a while to spawn NPCs when entering a new area, which was annoying. #132: The Legend of Korra January 22 2016 This game is set between season 2 and 3 of The Legend of Korra. I like how the opening, ending, and soundtrack from the show is also implemented in the game, that way it feels a bit like an episode. The game is rather short and the story could've been more fleshed out. However, the gameplay is really fun, all attacks can be countered or evaded with the right timing, switching between the 4 elements can be done at any time after unlocking them and this adds variety to the combat. Extreme mode is a joke with the right setup and I got lots of gold and platinum medals, but the boss in chapter 5 took around 15 retries to beat. Beating match 5 in Ace mode was quite a chore. I got knocked out really easily, which is an instant loss. It took me around 45 minutes and managed to win in round 1 by knocking the entire team out of the ring with only 4 seconds remaining. Definitely felt like a boss afterwards. #133: Drakengard 3 February 9 2016 For a game released in 2013 the graphics are very lackluster. The final boss is a roughly 7-8 minute long rhythm minigame without checkpoints and missing a single note results in a game over. That wouldn't be so bad if you coud actually see all the notes. The screen zooms in and out on the boss, making it impossible to see when you have to block the note. The last note also occurs when the screen is completely black. With a video it still took me around 4 hours to beat it (and I lost at the last note 3 times ). However, the story, humour, and gameplay more than make up for the flaws. Especially the humour is amazing. At first the story seems confusing and not much is explained. As the story progresses, more and more is revealed with the final revelations near the end of the game. After finishing the story, there's is a money grind to upgrade all the weapons. Luckily I played the DLCs and got 3.5 million gold from treasure chests. That meant I only needed to farm another 5 million. The reward is a garb that gives infinite Intoner Mode. This game also has a nice ending song, which fits perfectly. #134: South Park and the Stick of Truth February 13 2016 This game felt just like a South Park episode and I loved that. I played the game as a Jew, because why not . It's a very OP class, especially with a fully upgraded Plagues of Egypt and that other ability that inflicts bleeding damage. Butters was surprisingly useful with his ability to heal me every turn and aggro enemies. Cartman's fire farts are also OP. Most of the times a Plagues of Egypt + fire farts combo would finish fights in 1 turn. The katana is by far the best melee weapon, being able to deal around 9,500 damage per turn against the final boss. Most of the collectibles are easy to find, so I only needed the guide for the missables and clean up. #135: Mirror's Edge February 17 2016 I still have no idea what the title refers to. The story is pretty meh, but that's not the reason to play this game. It's because of the amazing parkour system, which takes a while to get used to. After getting familiar with the controls and levels, you'll discover new routes and shortcuts, which adds to the fun. Hard mode isn't all that different from normal, the Runner Sense (objects that indicate the path turn red) is disabled and enemies do a bit more damage. The time trials requires some practice to get to 50 stars. Most are easy and I got 3 stars on some without even trying. In the end I could skip the Atrium 2 time trial and still attained 50 stars. The speedruns definitely took quite a bit of practice. Most of the tricky parts are part of the time trials, so doing those over and over again for a better star rating also helps with the speedruns. This game also has an amazing song, called Still Alive. Tbh the reason I started this game was because of the song. #136: Catherine February 29 2016 From the creators of Persona 4 comes another great game. Recently men have been found dead in their homes and the police have no idea how they died. Vincent starts having nightmares every night and he has to make it to the end to stay alive. Meanwhile a woman named Catherine shows up and starts an affaire with Vincent. One night he dreams that someone he knows died and the next day he finds out that person really died. Decisions made during the game affect Vincent's state of mind and that affects the ending. After completing the game with gold prizes, Babel Mode is unlocked. This mode randomly chooses pre-set formations and you'll have to make it to the end. It took me 2 days to beat Altar, 3 days for Menhir, 13 tries for Obelisk, and only a mere 6 tries for Axis Mundi. Beating Babel Mode unlocks the final ending. Besides that there are 128 Rapunzel puzzles, which is a boring minigame. I don't know what the developers were thinking, 30 or so would've been more than enough. Unlocking trophies also unlocks more soundtracks at the jukebox and I spent more time than necessary there listening to the Persona 4 Golden ost . #137: Life is Strange March 6 2016 Let me start with this: the trophy images are horrible. This game starts out very interesting with Max having a nightmare about a huge tornado destroying everything around her. After waking up in class, Max finds out she can rewind time and saves her best friend Chloe from being shot. Chloe has been looking for her friend Rachel, who disappeared 6 months ago. During the next few episodes Max and Chloe work together to figure out what happened to Rachel, while dealing with several problems. What I liked about this game is the ability to rewind time and check out other choices. Sometimes it's even necessary to rewind time to solve puzzles or use new info during conversations. The first four episodes are imo very good, but the last one feels like the developers ran out of ideas. There's a long part about a nightmare/broken reality that drags on for way too long. #138: Dynasty Warriors Next March 12 2016 OMG YES! Finally got this plat after nearly 2 years . I've played Bladestorm before, but this is my first DW game. The story starts out interesting, but becomes confusing as the story progresses. That's because there are 3 different storylines mixed together, with another 2 branches in the last 2 stages. The boss fights are only have touchscreen controls and that gets really annoying at higher difficulties. One mistake and the boss can stunlock you to death. Conquest mode is fun the first few times, but having to do it 78 times to get all the collectables is a bit too much. Then there's Coalition mode where you have to work together with 3 other gamers to complete 4 missions. The catch: these are ad-hoc only, so you must meet physically and to get the plat you need to finish all 4 missions with an S rank to get the remainig 4 items. It took a long, long time to find 3 other gamers and we beat all missions with an S rank in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes thanks to this useful S Rank Guide. Major thanks to my boosting buddies HcG Clawz, Zone Hunter, and MvP-BumperKlever. Here's a screenshot to remember that moment (click the image to enlarge): #139: OlliOlli 2 Welcome to Olliwood March 28 2016 I like games with a solid story, well-written characters, great voice acting, and an interesting world. This game lacks all of those. It's best described as a game that's easy to learn, hard to master, and has a ton of challenges. You may wonder why I'd ever play a game like that, the answer is simple: a few people I talk with thought it would be fun if all of us platted this game. I reluctantly agreed and became the fifth person of the group to complete it. At first the game was a lot of fun, until the Titan Sky levels. Those are a nightmare and requires a flawless run. There are 25 Amateur levels and 25 Pro levels. Each level also has 5 challenges for a total of 250. Doing these challenges quickly became a huge grind and completing them all unlocks RAD mode. In this mode all 50 levels have to be completed using perfect tricks. The guide estimates the time needed to plat this game at 26-35 hours. I spent between 50-60 hours on this game. #140: Titan Souls April 3 2016 This game seems like a mix between Shadow of the Colossus, Zelda, and the Souls games... at least that's what I thought at first. The game has titans (SotC part), a lone hero with his trusted bow and arrow traveling the world to slay all the bosses (zelda part I guess), and nothing is explained about the story or his reason or goal to slay all the titans (Souls part). This game only has boss fights and the main character doesn't get any skills, equipment, or lives for beating them. There are no other enemies and no leveling system. You have to go through the entire game just with your starting equipment (bow + single arrow) and skills (dodge and running) He does absorb the souls of the titans, but this provides no extras. Both bosses and the main character die in a single hit (provided bosses are hit at their weak spot). Not all titans need to be killed to get to the final boss, but slaying them all unlocks a secret boss. Completing the game in No Roll mode was definitely one of the most annoying things to do and some of the trophies for killing bosses in a special way took more than a few tries. #141: Persona 4 Dancing All Night April 9 2016 The first game set after the Golden Epilogue from Persona 4 Golden. It's great to see how everyone from the Investigation Team was doing. I was really surprised to find out Rise and Naoto also moved to the same city as Yu, which means he isn't alone. Rise is working on her comeback debut and asked the Investigation Team to be her backup dancers. A few days before the festival, other idols have been disappearing and there are rumours about a video showing a dead idol if you go to the festival's website at midnight. The story is a bit on the short side, but I enjoyed every moment of it (except for the parts where Kanami spoke, her voice made me cringe every time). After the completing the story and all songs in Free Dance mode, a special chapter is unlocked. As with P4G, the opening song is great again. This is also my first rhythm game and it was pretty fun experience. I may try out more in the future. #142: STEINS;GATE April 13 2016 In the year 2010 the (self-proclaimed) mad scientist Hououin Kyouma attends a conference and discovers a woman lying in a pool of blood. After texting his friend, suddenly his vision blurs and hundreds of people have vanished. Not long after someone calling himself John Titor claims to be a time traveller from 2036 and has gone back in time to prevent SERN from taking over the world. I've seen the anime and it's one of my favourites. It follows the true ending route of the VN very closely. Still the game explains things a lot more and answers most of the questions I had from watching the anime. All the other routes were new content for me, though these endings were a bit sad. Story-wise this game is outstanding and it has great characters, definitely a recommendation for everyone. El Psy Kongroo. #143: Hitman GO April 28 2016 I got this one from a sale to try it. At first it was fun to move around and beat the levels, but the game quickly became extremely repetitive and boring. There's hardly any variation, besides some new enemies. The second half of the game was a real chore to complete. Not to mention almost all of the 91 levels had to be completed multiple times to get all the optional objectives. I'm so glad I got this game during the sale, because it's not worth the full price. #144: Last Rebellion May 2 2016 This game is a bit confusing in terms of story. Not much background information is given, characters are thrown into the story, and the story is very short. All in all it feels very rushed. The game suddenly ends after the final boss fight, while leaving a lot of questions unanswered. It's easy to powerlevel and become too OP, which makes fights a bit boring. Which is a shame, because it had potential. Attacking different parts of enemies and figuring out the correct order yields a lot of bonus exp. #145 Dark Souls II May 2 2015 I've heard a lot of things about this game and I agree with some of it. The game tries to hard to be difficult. The start of the game is the hardest part, because you only start with 1 estus flask. Luckily there are some consumable items that slowly restores some health, but these cost souls to buy and are limited until beating the Last Giant boss. It's also possible to permanently clear an area of enemies. While this sounds great, it also means limited amount of souls available for leveling up, improving equipment, and buying items. The Souls games are all about trial and error: you try something and either succeed or die, in which case you try something different. However, this game also punishes gamers for dying by reducing their maximum health by 5% for each death. This does stop after 10 deaths, still at 50% health most enemies can kill you with 1-2 hits. To get your health back it's necessary to consume a Human Effigy. These things are very rare at first and cost a lot of souls. All these things make the start of the game very annoying. By the time you find a lot of human effigies or a lot of lifegems, it's no longer needed. This makes the game feel unbalanced. During the second playthrough I hit 99 effigies and didn't even need them, because of the Ring of Life Protection that negates death and allows gamers to retain their souls. Since there are 3 per playthrough, stocking up on them removes the need for human effigies. Still, besides these flaws the game offers a nice challenge. Enemy spawns are different from NG+ and onwards and loot from chests also improves. Jolly cooperation was fun as always and now I'd also get a sunlight medal when summoning a golden phantom, which helped to get 30 medals faster. #146: Operation Abyss New Tokyo Legacy May 21 2016 I've been saving this image for quite some time, but it's finally here: trophy #7,000 . From the developers of Demon Gaze comes another Dungeon Crawler RPG. Though imo it's not as good as DG for a few reasons, but first some things I liked. The game starts with a full party of 6 characters and you can create more for free. Every character can activate a Unity skill (which is equivalent to the Demon skills from DG), but only 1 per turn. Using Unity skills increases the Unity gauge, which in turns allows players to perform stronger skills. The Academic has a skill to boost the Unity gauge, making it posible to spam these Unity skills every turn. It;s possible to use Gamble Codes to create new equipment. The equipment you get is random, but with save scumming it's possible to get some good things. This is also a much beter way to get the Muramasa blades, otherwise I'd have to spent hours to farm chests. After completing all the wanted missions, I got an awesome item that lets 1 party member equip anything from other classes. Gave it to the Healer and afterwards she had higher defenses and evasion than the tank . Now onto some things I didn't like. The story starts out interesting, but characters that are apparently important in the game's lore are suddenly introduced, without having been mentioned before and exit just as quickly. It's possible to lose every character if they're inflicted with Exhaustion. The ingame manual metions this, but doesn't say what the status effect icon for it is. That's the main problem I had with the game: hardly anything is explained, only the very basics are mentioned in the manual. It's not possible to save or level up in dungeons. Later in the game an item is introduced that is consumed to save, but these are limited. There are also 2 level caps in the game and I hit the first cap 2 missions before it was lifted. All exp earned was wasted afterwards. Another thing is the loot. Chests are ranked D-S, but an S ranked chest can also give you D ranked equipment. Higher ranks only increase the loot pool, making it hard to get useful things. Combine that with the fact that higher ranked chests are random and S-rank only drops in 1 area, it's quite a grind. Speaking of grinds, to get trophy for winning 3,000 battles I had to fight battles for 8 hours after completing everything else. I did this in the area with the weakest enemies, so a battle only lasted 5-6 seconds. With the Neo Chain magic, I'd have a guaranteed encounter every time when going through a door. Also whoever thought it would be a great idea to leave the amount of battles won out of the stat page should be fired. All in all an entertaining game, but not as good as Demon Gaze. #147: Saints Row Gat out of Hell May 22 2016 This game is more like a standalone DLC to Saints Row IV. The story can be done in 2-3 hours and only has 3 main missions (including the introduction and final battle) between those missions you'll be doing anything to piss Satan himself off in order to increase the Satan gauge. Reaching a specific level on the gauge will advance the story. The bulk of the time will be spent on completing all 101 challenges. There are lots of (imo unnecessary) grindy challenges that becomes quite boring to do. Luckily most of the kill, weapon, and power challenges can be farmed at Altars as enemies will keep spawning at certain altars. Unfortunately, the powers can't be changed when an altar is activated, so some power-related kills have to be farmed by using Survival events. Leaving the area before completing it will reset the event kill count, so kills can be farmed this way. Upgrading all weapons is also a very useless challenge and costs millions of wages (the currency used in hell). However, Volition had some mercy on gamers and added the Greed SMG that comes with the Jackpot passive ability. This increases the amount of wages dropped when killing enemies with this weapon and the Jackpot can be increases 5 times. The weapon does cost 100,000 wages, but it's definitely worth it. After going on a killing spree, simply use a vacuum stomp to quickly collect all the money and repeat. Taking over all the islands unlocks a special epilogue, which is a nice addition considering there was hardly any story component. The game also has 5 endings and it's possible to beat Satan as many times as you want to see them all (or, you know, just look up a YouTube video ). The servers for this game are really crappy (not sure if it's the same for the PS4 version). I got kicked a lot from co-op sessions and the game froze quite some times, but only when doing co-op. This never happened while playing the game solo, even when I was online. The trophy was a little buggy as it popped after playing co-op for 2 hours and 16 minutes (not that I'm complaining about that, mind you). Special thanks goes to my boosting partner Stevieboy for enduring all this and still helping me out, even though he already had the platinum trophy. #148: Amnesia Memories September 17 2016 I got this game from PS+ and saw some people were going to try the game. Thought why not join them and here we are. Amnesia Memories is about a woman who lost her memories because the spirit Orion merged with her. She's the only one who can see and hear him. To become separate again they have to go to parallel worlds and recover the memories. In each world the relations characters have with each other are usually different. I liked the Heart World story the most because it has a crime that needs to be solved. The Diamond World was easily the most messed up story. After completing the first 4 world a 5th is unlocked. This route explains some strange things that were happening in the other 4 routes. The minigames were a nice addition, but tapping certain CG images at specific places was really unnecessary. #149: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 January 1 2017 This is a fun game and I liked it a lot, except for the money grind (more about that later). I used the free Fairy Fencer F DLC to quickly get everyone to lvl 99. With a full Tera processor set those enemies do 0 damage in HDD form and Neptune gets an OP sword as a reward (it's far better than her ultimate weapon). For the credits I got a credit disc and the credit plan. With those Clione gave around 332,200 credits. With a party of Neptune, Vert, and MAGES. I could defeat Clione within 15 seconds. This was by far the fastest method to farm credits. Still took about 128 fights to get to 50 million. Then I bought and sold the most expensive clothing over and over to get to 100 million. I really don't get why this trophy was in the list as it has no purpose, just like with Diablo III. Besides the money grind this is a very enjoyable game. The story was nice, the humour is great, and I like how often the fourth wall is broken. I also created all optional dungeons and did all Colosseum fights to get all the best weapons for everyone. Though it took me a long time to realize there was a plan that added more fights to the Colosseum . The best character is hands down MAGES. I like all the Steins;Gate references and that banter with Noire being her assistant (she's voiced by the same actress that voiced Kurisu). Finding Kurisiu's outfit in the game was a great surprise too. Too bad I had to replace the witch hat with an invisible hat for some boosted intelligence during the Clione grind, though I did give Vert one . 150: Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment January 1 2017 This game has an alternate story and takes place shortly after beating floor 75 in Aincrad. When Kirito won the duel, the game didn't end. Instead they all have to clear the remaining 25 floors to end it. This game depicts the floor-clearing aspect well and also has a MMO feel to it. To clear a floor players need to explore it first, then find the boss room. Along the way they can also gather information about the boss, which will help NPCs during the boss raid. It's also possible to help NPCs when they send a request to help them level up. During a boss raid 6 NPCs will fight with Kirito and whoever he partners up with. Keeping all of them alive during all 25 floors is challenging at first, but becomes much easier after Kirito has leveled up a bit and learned OSS combos (chaining sword skills), but more about that later. Floor bosses also have a last hit bonus, meaning the the one who kills the boss gets a unique piece of equipment. There's also a trophy for getting them all. Besides Aincrad, there's the Hollow Area. This is a testing area that was used to test stuff for the main game and has its own story mode. After completing it, Phillia can move to Aincrad and will be available when clearing floors. The Hollow Area also has a mechanic called implements. These are basically items, equipment, and skills that Kirito can test. Once the tests are complete, they can be implemented into the game and will be available to use freely in Aincrad and the Hollow Area. The idea behind this is great, but they're way too grindy. Completing 100 out of 114 takes a long time. To make things worse, implements can only be tested during a Hollow Mission. These are timed missions that appear in the Hollow Area and requires players to beat certain enemies or reach a specific place before the timer runs out. These missions respawn after a certain time and can be done over and over. Doing 80 unique Hollow Missions is quite a lot, so keeping a checklist is recommended. Of course I didn't do that at first. Also on the Vita version the Hollow Missions in the Discard Area (which was added to the Hollow Area in a patch) don't count for the trophy, so I had to do about 23 Hollow Missions in the other 5 areas. Another grindy trophy is to kill 100 Hollow Named Monsters (HNM). These only spawn when an area rank has reached lvl 3 and are stronger versions of bosses from the Hollow Area. An area rank will increase when doing Hollow Missions. Killing 100 is a bit too much, but it wasn't so bad. It's also a great opportunity to work on implements. The last (and IMO the worst) grind are the affection trophies. Every main heroine needs to have a maxed out affection. There are several ways to do that: talk to them or spam Good during fights. I used the latter until they were lvl 4, then talked to them for 90 minutes to 2 hours to get them to level 5. This had to be done for Asuna, Phillia, Strea, Leafa, Sinon, Lisbeth, and Silica. The combat system is nicely done too. At first it seems very simple to attack, use a buff or sword skill, dodge, and parry. But the more you play, the more mechanics will be discovered. For example timing dodges/parries will result in bonuses. fighting styles and sword skills also level up through usage. Later it becomes possible to create an Original Sword Skill (OSS). Chaining sword skills will increase the damage for the next sword skill, provided sword skills aren't used more than once during the combo. Using a finisher skill ends the combo immediately and these can get a 300% increase in damage. Doing the Grand Quest in the Discard Area also rewards Kirito and his partner with an OP sword skill finisher depending on the weapon he has equipped. This one is very useful when defeating floor bosses and HNMs. Kirito can equip a variety of weapons and my favourites are dual-wielding, rapier, and katana. Dual-wield does lots of damage against single enemies, rapier has fast attacks, and the katana has lots of AoE skills to deal with mobs. After completing the Grand Quest, the Ultra Hard Quest becomes available. There are 9 quests to defeat extremely powerful bosses and getting the last hit bonus on them rewards a legendary weapon. There's one weapon for each fighting style. All in all this game is a perfect adaptation of the anime and if you like that, you'll like this game. It's quite a time sink, so people who haven't seen or don't like the anime should think twice before getting it. 151 - 175 Spoiler #151: Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix January 5 2017 This is also a game that I've played dozens of times before on the PS2, so this time around I started immediately on Critical Mode. The start of the game was the hardest part, because Sora was underleveled most of the time and he didn't have that many abilities yet. Luckily, Critical Mode gives some starting abilities and increases damage inflicted with 25%. Of these abilities the 2 Lucky, Lucky are the most useful ones. Those increase the drop rate of items and synthesis materials. Having no means to dodge until getting the Wisdom Form to lvl 3 was certainly a great handicap (that form is acquired roughly 25% into the the story). I was thrilled to fight the new boss in The World That Never Was and went in completely blind .... and got destroyed the first two times . During the third time I started getting familiar to the patterns and during the fourth try there was a QTE, beating it gave sora control over three keyblades, which completely destroyed the boss. Xaldin was still the hardest boss in the story and Saïx seemed to be nerfed down a bit. After getting Limit Form, the game becomes so much easier. That form has an ability that heals Sora when using a limit and Sonic Blade grants lots of invincibility and can stagger enemies + bosses easily. The exception are the 15 OP post-game bosses (Sephiroth, Lingering Will and the Organization XIII data fights). These required lots of trial and error to get familiar with the new attack patterns. Out of the data battles, Xaldin was still the hardest one (yay for consistency ). I'm also glad to never have to do Mushroom 8 and 10 again. The puzzles are a nice addition: they reward good items and you also get great artwork. #152: Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix February 26 2017 Finally a KH game that's completely new for me. This game takes place 10 years before KH1 and focuses on Terra, Ventus, and Aqua as they travel the worlds to restore the balance between light and dark. You can only play as 1 character at a time and to switch to another one, it's necessary to start a new game. All 3 stories must be completed to get the entire picture and each character has different events in each world, while the story converges in some small cutscenes and a few fights. Each character plays different, so they don't feel like clones with different skins. Terra is a tanky guy with higher hp and attack stats, his finisher gauge fills quicker, though he's also slow and has a terrible dodge. In fact, calling it a dodge is just insulting, it's basically a slide, as enemies can still hit him while sliding. Ventus is very agile and I'd describe him as a rogue class. He can attack very fast and dodge away too before most enemy attacks hit him. Aqua is the mage and is very proficient in magic, though does very little physical damage at the start. She has some amazing exclusive spells that tear through enemy groups with ease. I like the combat system in this game a lot. Magic and special attacks are placed in a deck and can be used after they've cooldown. With a bit of knowledge of the commands and abilities, it's possible to get strong commands and helpful abilities early in the game by melding them together. This makes Critical mode a lot easier compared to KH2, where the start is arguably the hardest part due to the lack of special attacks and abilities. Shotlocks are also a new mechanism, which are very powerful. These attacks lock on to enemies and with timed presses, it's possible to do additional damage. The third new mechanism are Dimension Links, which replace Drive Forms from KH2. Activating a D-Link completely heals you and gives you access to a set amount of commands. Leveling up a D-Link adds new commands and a new finisher. Some things I didn't like was how the stories in each world was so short (as it's divided between 3 characters). Another thing I really disliked was completing the reports with all 3 characters. This basically means getting a 100% completion trice, which is a completely pointless grind. So doing all mini-games (and there are a lot), arena matches, beating all optional bosses, getting all treasure chests, commands, shotlocks, items, and command styles, defeating every Unversed, beating every Unversed Battle Mission with the highest rank, getting and maxing out every D-Link, unlocking all finishers, and using every shotlock and D-Link finisher. This easily adds lots of hours of pointless grinding. The optional boss Mysterious Figure is also a huge disappointment as Square Enix made it a luck-based boss for Terra and his crappy dodge. With the other 2 characters it's doable in 30 minutes. Though he has an insta-death move where a countdown timer appears. It starts at 5 ticks and when it reaches 0, it's game over. Mashing will break you free. This doesn't sound so bad, but the kicker is that the maximum amount of ticks decreases by 1 every time you get hit by it. It generally takes 3 ticks to break free, though it's possible to do it in 2 when mashing the controller a lot. Besides that, he can split into 5 clones, become invisible, throw dozens of orbs that auto-attacks the player, drop huge meteors, shoot exploding orbs of fire, stop time for players while he moves, and heal. Oh and once he turns invisible he combines lots of attacks. So yeah, a terribly broken boss. #153: Severed April 15 2017 Somehow you and your family have been transported to another dimension that's filled with monsters and it's up to you to find them and escape. The story in this game isn't that great or detailed, but that's not the reason to play it. It's the game mechanics. This is one of the very few Vita games that makes good use of the touch screen. Interacting with objects and fighting are all done with touch controls and I had a lot of fun attacking, parrying, and slicing enemies. Each enemy type has a unique attack and parry style, which adds to the variety, though later in the game stronger versions are introduced and those usually have the same patterns. Defeating bosses also grants the player new powers that can be used to solve dungeons and during fights. When the fury bar is filled, killing an enemy starts a QTE with the possibility to sever certain parts from monsters. These parts are used to upgrade powers, which is a great incentive to sever as many parts as possible during every fight. In fact, I severed so many parts that all powers where fully upgraded before reaching the farming spot at the end of the game. Finding all secrets in the game wasn't so hard as the map marks rooms with secrets and unexplored paths are marked in grey. The game is very short (I platted it in 6 hours and 23 minutes while taking my time and dying a few times), though it was a very fun ride. If you have a Vita, definitely check this game out. #154: Super Time Force Ultra April 16 2017 In the 80's Earth is invaded by a robot army just as one professor unlocks the secrets of time travelling. What follows is the creation of the Super Time Force, whose goal is to make Earth a better place for everyone by fixing stuff throughout time. This game is filled with humour, that alone makes it worth to play it. For example saving the dinosaurs from becoming extinct causes them to live in the present and they eat humans. Definitely making life better for everyone . In the game the objective is to beat the level within the allotted time (like the old Mario games). However, it's possible to rewind time when dying or screwing something up and do it again. During levels there are also time shards that slows down everything except the player for a few seconds and glorbs that add extra rewinds. An optional thing are speedruns and completing them all adds a very OP character to the team, but that isn't required for the plat. Other characters are added after rescuing them in levels, collecting all time shards + glorbs, and completing the game. Each character has unique attacks and abilities. For example a guy with a lightsaber can throw it and also use it to reflect bullets. It's also possible to save a dying party member and acquire their charged attack. One character can get up to 2 other charged attacks, so there are lots of combinations possible. A favourite one mine was a barrier that repels almost every attack with a rocket launcher and a gun that fires through objects and enemies. When needing to do some crowd controls, I'd go for a rapid fire machine gun with homing scarfs from the character from Journey and the arc rifle from Sir Galahad from The Order 1886. Besides the story mode there are also 50 Helladeck levels. These are basically challenges to collect all glorbs with restrictions, such as time limit, limited rewinds, and limit characters to choose from. Some of these are easy, others are annoying and requires perfect timing. Completing all of them adds a powerful character to the team and he comes in handy during Super Hardcore Mode, where characters stay dead for the entire levels, unless they're saved. When completing a level, they're available again, so it's not really perma-death. #155: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation April 29 2017 The third main game of the Neptunia series. This game had its pros and cons. It takes place in the same dimension as Hyperdimension mk2/Re;Birth2 and the story is funny. Plutia is a nice addition and her personality takes a 180 degrees turn when transforming into Iris Heart. Both friend and foe isn't safe from her sadistic personality. The final boss was also nicely done. The money grind was also a lot shorter than in Re;Birth1 as it only took 50-60 minutes to get to 50 million credits and grinding lily ranks could also be sped up thanks to some plans. Some things I didn't like was not having a real healer until the last part of the final chapter of the true and good ending path. The normal ending didn't even have that character available. In this game Compa isn't playable, so Rom takes over as a healer. In the meantime Plutia and Nepgear have some healing spells, but they can't revive or remove status effects. Stella's Dungeon was also a huge chore to do, so I eventually gave in and bought a DLC to speed this up while also keeping her equipment when dying. It was only €1, but I still felt cheated as this DLC was also released for Re;Birth2, so the developers could've just added it to the game. That DLC also came with a plan to increase EXP a lot, so I downloaded the free DLCs that increases the lvl cap from 99 to 999. Ended up with a party of around lvl 300 characters after obtaining the plat, so decided to do some of those DLC Colosseum matches that have a recommended lvl of 200 and 300. #156: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir July 6 2017 Another fun game from Vanillaware. This time the story is set in a world based on the Norse mythology of the 9 realms and Ragnarok (the apocalypse). The gameplay fun, though the story is a bit confusing as it's split into 5 books (one for each main character). So events are completely out of order and it's up to the player to connect them chronologically, which is a huge chore. After completing these 5 books, another book is unlocked, which acts like an epilogue. It's up to the player to decide which character to use for each part, leading to different endings. When all possible endings have been seen, the complete ending is unlocked. I'm grateful that Vanillaware didn't force players to play the game on all difficulties, unlike in Dragon's Crown. I'm also glad that each character's story is unique, instead of just the same thing with another character. Though some bosses are recycled a bit too much. I also really hated the fights against the Three Wise Men and the giant snowtroll thing. Those Wise Men would teleport around constantly when approaching them and the Snow Troll had way too many attacks that interrupt or knock down the player character. The boss rush wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. After each character's item storage was linked, I moved all the bronze, silver, and gold fruit to one character's inventory and used those to heal. With the heal upgrade the bronze fruit restored 2,400 health while raising the max hp with 50 permanently. Didn't even need to use the silver and gold fruit . All in all, it's a fun game to try if you like 2D games. #157: Sword Art Online Lost Song July 18 2017 I'm a huge fan of SAO and was looking forward a lot to this game after platting SAO Hollow Fragment. However, this game left me with mixed feelings. The story is meh and feels like it's a filler arc where the main cast just go on some questing, much like the Excalibur arc in season 2 of the anime. And I'm still waiting for an explanation about how Rain can dual-wield, which should be exclusive to Kirito. The combat is simplified compared to Hollow Fragment, which is a shame. I did like the flying mechanics in the game, though the altitude limit was driving me crazy. It felt pointless to be able to fly, only to have an altitude limiter preventing me from reaching story-related places. Having Kuroyukihime from Accel World as a playable character was a nice addition. I wasn't expecting to fight her when starting the event and she defeated me with 2 attacks... The post-game cleanup was just a boring grind: 100 side quests, 100 extra quests, raise a sword skill to lvl 500, raise a magic skill to lvl 500, raise all OSS skills to lvl 100, and unlock all skills for a single character. Luckily, the trophies for the skills could also be unlocked when an A.I. reached the requirements. #158: Code Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ July 21 2017 Another PS+ freebie that turned out to be more entertaining than expected. The game is an otome VN, but it's at least 100 times better than the other otome VN freebie Amnesia Memories. This game doesn't force you into a relationship with one of the potential romances. The story and setting are a lot better and interesting too. It takes place in a steampunk version of London in the 19th century where alchemy has been used to improve the daily life of humans. The game starts with a mysterious group hunting the main character. The main character's has the ability to melt pretty much anything she touches due to a strange poison in her blood. She's saved in the nick of time by gentlemen-thief Arsène Lupin. Together they search for a way to rid the main character of her poison. Other notable characters that appear in this game are Van Helsing, dr. Frankenstein, Saint-Germain, Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Queen Victoria, and even Jack the Ripper. Some characters I didn't like were Impey Barbicane, Nemo, and Finis. I also hated how Finis was a guy, but cross-dressed like a girl. Most character are interesting and especially Saint-Germain's route is one of the more interesting ones. There were lots of moments in that route where I was convinced things would lead to a bad ending, only to find out it was all part of the true ending route. What I also liked about this game was that the bad endings aren't required, so I could jump right into the true ending for each character. The real true ending route in the game wrapped things up nicely. Though the routes tend to drag on a bit when they reach the end and I usually found myself skipping dialogue just to get it over with. All in all an entertaining story. #159: Broken Age August 3 2017 An entertaining point-and-click game where the story follows Shay and Vella. They live in different worlds and don't seem to have anything in common. Shay lives in a spaceship and is looked after by the ship's computer, who calls herself Mom. He goes on "important" missions, which turns out to be something that Mom set up for him. Shay is bored because he never gets to do something exciting or dangerous. Vella lives in a medieval-ish world and is about to be sacrificed to Mog Chotra, a monster that appears once every 14 years to eat the sacrifices in every village. In return it leaves the rest of the people alone. She wants to fight and kill Mog Chotra and goes on a quest to make it happen. Then, one day Shay and Vella's lives intertwine in the most unexpected way. The story is entertaining, but sometimes it's not clear where to go or what to do next. This game has lots of missable trophies that would've been a huge pain to get without a guide (shoutout to zadorvp's excellent guides for this game). The speedrun took me 2 attempts. I'm not a fan of speedruns, so this was very annoying. During the first one I finished acts 1 and 2 in 58 minutes and didn't bother finishing the finale after passing the time limit. The second attempt went much better with act 1 in 19 minutes, act 2 in 51 minutes, and the finale at 57 minutes. #160: God Eater Resurrection August 6 2017 First of all, that's a pretty badass image. I've heard a lot of things about God Eater and wanted to try it for a long time. God Eater Resurrection is a re-re-release and contains the original God Eater, GE Burst, and the Resurrection stories. In this game the world has been overrun by Aragami: monsters that can absorb organic and inorganic materials to evolve. These monsters can only be defeated by destroying their cores, which only God Eaters can do with their special God Arc weapons. Luckily, the story in the game is so much better than the anime. There were more types of enemies than I expected and this was a welcome change over Freedom Wars (though I did miss the thorn from FW ). Each type has its own weak spots and these can be destroyed for bonus material and to deal extra damage. Sometimes enemies lose the ability to use certain attacks when destroying parts. I also liked the ability to devour Aragami to gain special bullets. The effect of the bullet differs for every variant. My most hated enemy type was the Kongou (monkey-ish enemy) followed closely by Chi-You (bipedal bird). They like to spam spinning and AoE attacks and these are especially devastating at the start of the game. The first real challenging boss was the Dyaus Pita. This enemy is definitely a step up in terms of speed and attack combos. Taking the time to observe and memorize his patterns is definitely required, as mindlessly attacking won't be enough. The next real challenge was Hannibal and its variants Caligula and Blitz Hannibal. The latter has got to be the most agile enemy in the entire game, but luckily it doesn't have as much health as the other Hannibal types. My favourite enemies to fight are Susano'o and Hannibal. I also found it funny that Amaterasu had boobs, seeing how Aragami are supposed to be genderless. That enemy is something I'd expect to see in games like Senran Kagura. The weapon system is nicely done. It's possible to craft and upgrade new weapons, shields, and upgrades. Later on it's possible to add new skills to melee weapons, guns, and shields, giving players the option to select and add skills based on their playstyle. Though the only downside is the skills obtained are completely random. Some skills can also level up a weapon/shield to increase it's attack/defence stats. Some weapons also resemble the Aragami whose materials were used to craft it and a few among them have a cool design. Obtaining materials can be a hassle at times, as it's random which ones you get as a reward. It's also possible to attack specific parts and break them to obtain materials. Besides that, there's also the option to exchange tickets or other materials to get the required ones. The only downside is that tickets are random rewards. Later in the game the Amor Aragami is introduced, this one is a random spawn and will always drop a ticket when defeated. The mission Harvest Festival also spawns gold and platinum tickets as pick ups, I even got a black ticket twice. This game can be played solo, but it's also possible to do it all in co-op, which is more fun. I liked the option to register friends, so their avatars become NPCs. These are generally a lot better than the in-game NPCs, though the free DLC pack adds some strong ones too. I got Kochiya-Shana's OP avatar and that one was a great help. It definitely speeds up missions, though player avatars can't be used during story missions. Player avatars can have up to 3 different loadouts when used as an NPC and I wish the limit was 4, because I created a loadout for every element. Also this game may be the only one where it's not possible to fully customize the avatar after starting it. I quickly skipped the character creation, thinking I could always do that later, as I like to take my time for that. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned. Turns out I could only change the hairstyle, accessories, and outfits afterwards . Some things that IMO could be improved are: being able to fully customize the player avatar after starting the game, having more badass outfits, I would've liked the option to start a romance, as there are small cutscenes where the player character spends time with other NPCs, so a romance system could've been added. And this game needs more diversity in areas. There are only 6 or 7 and these are used over and over again. I saved a special mission for the plat screenshot, as the name (Dragon God) seemed very fitting . All in all this game is very enjoyable and has a very good crafting/upgrading system that seems simple at first, but is a lot more in-depth. Definitely a recommendation for people who like or want to try out the monster hunting genre. #161: Killzone Mercenary August 17 2017 This one is also Ultra Rare plat #20. At first this game was a lot of fun. Sure, the story is nothing spectacular, but the graphics, controls, and motion controls are great. The motion controls worked flawlessly, contrary to games like Uncharted Golden Abyss and Resistance Burning Skies. Most mp trophies can be done solo in Botzone, where you can add AI bots and decide their difficulty. However, some trophies requires can't be obtained with bots and must be done with actual players. Here's where the problems start: the servers like to troll a lot by kicking you from a match lots of times before it finally works. As a host you have the ability to switch players between teams... only this doesn't work on public matches and trophies can't be obtained in private matches (huge thanks to my boosting partners DarkSoleride, Dav9834, outlawblue1, and DILLAsirens). When using the Join Friend or Party features, you can still be kicked. Getting this plat also requires lots of grinding. I completed the game on the hardest difficulty and then 3 more times to complete all contracts. After obtaining 25 unique valour cards, I did a 5th playthrough to get all intel. I purposely saved at least 1 intel in every mission, because collecting them all in every level gives players 3 unique valour cards per level. With this I could get the remaining 27 cards and complete the deck. So that's 5 playthroughs with less than 4,500 kills That meant I had to grind 5,500 more kills for one bronze trophy, which basically comes down to replaying chapter 5 55 times. This chapter has an average completion time of 15 minutes and cutscenes can't be skipped. At least the plat image looks nice. #162: Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book September 8 2017 This is my first time playing an Atelier game. I was told this is a good game to start with, as it has no time limit, like in the previous games. At first I played it just like any other RPG and focused on defeating enemies to level up. However, the focus in this game isn't combat, but the synthesis system and gathering materials. In fact, the final boss is the second or so boss that's fought as part of the story. Sure, you can challenge other mini-bosses by buying rumours, but most of them are way too OP to take on early in the game. The story is expanded by interacting with specific NPCs and following their questlines. The synthesis system is pretty in-depth and also a bit confusing at first. At first the items that can be created aren't that great in terms of quality. Gathering better materials and searching for specific traits to inherit makes all the difference, as was evident by the post-game superboss Demon Lord. I farmed some materials from the Hidden Archive DLC area and thought the equipment was good enough, since the other post-game bosses were defeated with hardly any trouble. But nope, he kept defeating me and healing insane amounts of health. So I went back and created some better healing items and bombs, which worked wonders (though I still just barely won). Also the Demon Lord doesn't really understand the concept of turn-based combat when he gets a turn after every party member does something . Doll Making was also a nice feature, which allows a specific party member to change the stats and appearances. I eventually went with something that resembles the hooded white robe from Assassin's Creed. The Epilogue DLC is a nice way to end the game and it sets things up for Atelier Firis nicely. I may try that game at some point too. #163: Muramasa Rebirth September 23 2017 Another gem from Vanillaware, this time the setting is ancient Japan. The art style and OST are wonderful, especially this part. Demon blades slowly corrupt their wielders, which causes them to slaughter anything in their paths. Only people who master the Oboro fighting style seem to retain their sanity. The story follows Kisuke and Momohime, whose stories seem to have nothing in common at first. The controls for both characters are completely identical and I would've preferred it if each of them had a unique ability or move. Now it just seems like a different skin. I do like how it's possible to switch between their campaigns and how swords are shared between them after clearing both story modes. When starting the game it took a bit to get used to the weapon system. Blades can break once their spirit gauge (the weapon's hp bar) reaches 0. Sheathing the weapon and using another one will cause the broken blade to regenerate. When a blade is broken, it's offense is severely reduced and blocking + deflecting isn't possible. Obtaining all endings on Fury mode (where the player only has 1 hp) wasn't as hard as I expected. The game is pretty generous when dying and respawns you at the same area. Some bosses did take over an hour to beat. Especially the final bosses were annoying due to random lightning bolts and falling rocks. After finally beating Kisuke's final boss, a lightning bolt hit me. For a moment there I thought the game would make me fight both forms all over again. Luckily, that didn't happen. After Fury mode the speedrun was a joke. I took my time exploring and fighting and still managed to beat it in 2 hours and 31 minutes. The DLCs add new characters and story, while also tying in with the main game at certain points. I liked A Spirited Seven Nights' Haunting and Hell's Where the Heart Is the most. The former because of the story and bosses, the latter for the humour. The second ending from the Haunting DLC would also be a good setup for a sequel. Fishy Tales of the Nekomata was ok, but A Cause to Daikon For was the by far the worst DLC. The character was lame, story was meh, and the second boss was broken. Defeating all 16 bosses and 14 Caves of Evil from the main game with each DLC character was a huge disappointment, as the recycled content didn't add anything except for playtime. Most of the DLC bosses were a step up and very challenging to do on Fury. #164: Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana (Vita) October 6 2017 According to PSNP I'm the fourth person to plat this version . The game completely exceeded all my expectations. The story is amazing and so well-written, characters are interesting, locations are nice, artwork is beautiful, and the soundtrack is top notch. It's been a while since a game blew me away like this. It takes a bit for the story to build up and become interesting though. As much as I want to discuss the plot, I won't. Not even in a spoiler tag. It's best to play this game without knowing anything about the story and be amazed. Dana is a great character, her voice actress does an incredible job, and she has the best track of the game as her theme. Nightmare difficulty was harder compared to Ys Memories of Celceta, but memorizing the bosses' attacks helps a lot ... and I may or may not have retried the final boss a few extra times to listen to the battle theme . I'm definitely going to get the PS4 version at some point. #165: Senran Kagura Estival Versus November 1 2017 The sequel to SK Shinovi Versus, the story is much better compared to SV, because it's one story instead of 4 stories events happen differently based on which school is selected. The story is about how all the groups are transported to another world by Asuka's grandma Sayuri and there they must train hard to become better shinobi in order to prepare for the arrival of a yoma that awakens once every 1,000 years. The Shinobi Girl's Heart stories are funny too and some continue from those in Shinovi Versus. Homura is still my favourite character. Miyabi, Yumi, and Asuka got some pretty OP ultimate moves. One thing I didn't like was how locking on didn't guarantee a character would attack towards the locked-on target, which is especially frustrating with slow characters like Yozakura. #166: Valkyrie Drive Bhikkhuni November 5 2017 Another series from the creator of Senran Kagura. It's easy to see the similarities in characters and controls. The story is interesting and while the game is entertaining, it also has its flaws. There are only 7 playable characters and most range from great to likable, with the exception of Mana and Manpukumaru. Mana is a backstabbing bitch who only looks out for her own interests and Manpukumaru is annoying and also reminded me a lot of Hibari from Senran Kagura, which is an instant dislike. Some of the controls are a bit buggy, most notable is the Phantom Delude, where players dash towards a target, then dodge right before an enemy attack hits. The idea behind this move is great, but the move hardly ever works and the timing seems way off. And worst of all: there's a challenge that requires 2 successful consecutive Phantom Deludes. There's also an extremely pointless exp grind. To put things into comparison: completing story mode, survival mode, and challenge mode yields about 1.5 million exp. So that means another 3.5 million needs to be grinded. Also all characters can be fully maxed out with 1.9 million exp. If there's ever a sequel, I hope these flaws are fixed. #167: Lone Survivor November 5 2017 This is one of the games I never expected to play. It's not really my genre, but someone had been bugging me about how great this game is for a while now. So I made a deal: he would play Persona 4 Golden and I'd play this ... truth be told I never expected him to accept . The game isn't as terrible as I expected, but just barely. It also wasn't even close to the supposedly hidden gem I kept hearing about. The protagonist is seemingly the only survivor in a world where a zombie outbreak occurred. To deal with these walking dead, the Lone Survivor (who is called You) has to stay sane. That turns out to be a bigger chore, as simply drinking 2 cups of coffee or playing a video game twice per day negatively affects the mental health. You also suffers from hallucinations and amnesia. Besides that, there's the usual scavenging for food, supplies, looking for other survivors, and trying to figure out what happened. The story is ... well, pretty much non-existent. Things are implied and that's basically it. It's up to the player to make something of that. There are bosses ... sort of and these are dealt with by running away. #168: Persona 5 November 7 2017 After completing this game, I still can't decide if I like this one more or Persona 4 Golden. P5 has more gameplay elements and I like how Palaces aren't randomly generated dungeons. The story is amazing and there's lots of optional things to do. The final boss fight was also good. I like how enemies are Personas and it's possible to obtain them through negotiations. Unlocking perks when leveling up Confidant ranks was also a nice addition. Hearing 250 unique lines from Futaba was also a lot easier to do compared to the P4G counterpart. However, this game also has its flaws. The story feels a bit rushed around the 5th Palace and Haru is added very suddenly even though she goes to the same school as the protagonist. She appears in a cutscene early in the game, but doesn't say anything. Her story arc also feels a bit forced and could've been fleshed out a lot more. Luckily, the other characters are a lot better. Besides that, I didn't like going through Mementos, as it's a randomly generated dungeon where the aesthetics of the floors only change when entering a new path. Getting to the end was a boring thing to do. Something that also annoyed me a lot was being told to go to sleep, which means no free time. This happens way too much and it's because the developers removed a palace from the game. Some of my favourite Personas are Horus, Seth, Kohryu, and Lucifer. My top 3 favourite Palaces are definitely the pyramid, castle, and casino. The ending was good and I'm looking forward to Persona 5 Dancing Star Night. #169: Dungeon Punks November 14 2017 A freebie from PS+ that piqued my interest because the gameplay looks similar to Dragon's Crown. The game has 6 classes to play as. There's the knight and dwarf, but the next 4 are pretty unique: a were-witch (werewolf with witch powers), drakken (bipedal lizard), djinn (also known as a genie), and hierophant (who looks like Anubis from Ancient Egypt's pantheon). I like how it's possible to switch between them at any time, though 3 are unlocked after beating the 4th level. My favourite class was the hierophant. The dwarf, hierophant, and djinn also had useful skills. The story is about the classes making a delivery to the King and Queen, only to find out they're under attack. They rush to save them and one thing leads to another, so they're dragged into it. The story has a lot of humour, that alone is a good enough reason to play this. I liked how each level had a different setting and tried to add something unique, such as the crows in level 4 or the spikes in level 9. Beating the game unlocks NG+, which is a lot more challenging, as enemies are stronger, react faster, inflict status ailments more often, and the shop stops selling equipment after reaching lvl 29. That means new equipment must be farmed by replaying chapters over and over again. That makes NG+ way too grindy, as the dropped equipment is completely random. If NG+ wasn't so grindy, this game would've been a hidden gem. The trophy for unlocking all rank 1 skills is bugged and it didn't pop when meeting the requirements, so I had to start a new save file and do that again. #170: Ray Gigant November 20 2017 Another dungeon-crawling RPG from Experience Inc. This game has its good points and flaws. The game is about giant creatures called Gigants invading Earth. Conventional weapons are useless against them and only people who wield the power of Yorigamis can defeat them by creating a symbiotic bond with them. Yorigamis consume energy from their host and in return give incredible power. The story is divided into 4 arcs where the playable characters also change. It's ok with some moments where things become interesting, but it's also predictable. It also failed to explain a few things, for example: how a certain character from arc 2 ends up in arc 3. Something that also annoyed me where terrible translations from time to time. The opening definitely got my attention, a giant dragon that resembles a red Shenlong from Dragonball Z lays waste to Tokyo. Most of the gameplay consists of going into dungeons to track down a mini-boss, defeat it, and bring back the marker they carry. Afterwards, that marker is placed in a special area to summon a Type-I Gigant, which are the giant bosses. All the bosses in the first 17 chapters are unique, though chapter 18 and 19 recycles them and also the mini-bosses for story reasons. I didn't care much about the characters and Ichiya is very annoying. The Evolve system was something I liked a lot. This is used to level up characters by spending upgrade resources. There's no exp or money and new equipment is also obtained by leveling up the item tree. Resources are obtained after fights and also found as treasures in dungeons. There is a level cap, so it's not possible to overlevel, but this is removed later in the game. Fights are also no longer random, which speeds up dungeon exploration a lot. During combat each party member can do up to 5 moves per turn and these consume AP, which is shared between the entire party. Therefore, it's necessary to consider enemy types and elemental weaknesses. Later in the game Parasitism mode becomes available which depletes health instead of AP. Health is fully restored after a fight (unless a character dies), so this is a good way to end fights quickly, as it removes the need to restore AP. Besides that, there's an ultimate move Slash Beat Mode, which is a rhythm mini-game. This can quickly make short work of bosses, but it takes a while to recharge. I'm really hoping the Evolve system will return in other games from Experience Inc. IMO this game is overall better than Operation Abyss, but not even close to Demon Gaze. #171: Zero Time Dilemma November 25 2017 The sequel to Virtue's Last Reward and this game did not disappoint. It's the third game, but it happens before VLR for story reasons. In this game 9 people are trapped in an underground shelter and forced to play a decision game. They can only escape after at least 6 people have died. I had a bit of knowledge about certain events as some things were spoiled. but it was still a great story with lots of twists. I liked most characters, except Eric. The stories of Phi, Sigma, and Diana were nicely done too. One of the endings set things up nicely for VLR. Almost all the puzzles were fun to solve, except the transporter room, that one was just needlessly annoying. Zero's identity felt incredibly forced as he was never mentioned before even though he was supposedly there all the time. I'd hoped the true ending would give more closure. All in all a good sequel, now I just need to play the first game. #172: Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair December 3 2017 I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game, it has good and bad things. Like the first game, the story in the sequel is excellent. A new class from Hope's Peak Academy is going on a trip to Jabberwock Island. Once there, Monokuma takes over, takes them hostage, and starts another killing game. The objective is to kill another student and get away with it in order to escape. The player will need to investigate these murders, find clues, and determine who did it during class trials. If the murderer manages to get away with it, everyone else is killed. In case the murderer is discovered, they are the ones that will be killed. There are a few new mini-games during the class trials and I wasn't a fan of Logic Dive and Rebuttal. The new characters are great and some have very interesting background stories. The ones I liked most are Ibuki, Chiaki, Nagito, and Fuyuhiko. The murder cases are all great and have nice twists. The third case is by far my favourite one and I actually managed to deduce the killer's identity before the trial when investigating for clues. The final class trial dragged on way too long due to the long conversations between the arguments. Taking care of pets was a huge chore as pets are raised when walking. They gain 1 exp for every step, which makes it necessary to ignore the quick-travel system and walk everywhere. Running is also out of the question, as the protagonist needs less steps to go somewhere when running. Besides the story mode there's also Island Mode and the Monomi mini-game. Island Mode is exactly the same as School Mode from the first game and just as boring. It took 4 playthroughs to fill every characters' report cards and obtain their endings. Each playthrough lasted about 2 hours. The Monomi mini-game is even worse: there are 6 levels where Monomi fights Monobeasts from the story. Completing each level once is ok and I would've been fine with that. However, there's a trophy to obtain all 60 items. All of them are random drops and it's possible to get the same item multiple times. It took about 8 hours to get all 60 of them, which was a completely unnecessary grind. It's like the developers added these modes just to inflict players with despair as both of them are terrible and reduced my enjoyment of this game entirely. This makes the plat so much more grindy and boring that it needs to be. #173: The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel December 18 2017 Where to begin? I'd heard a lot about this series, but never got around to playing it. Bought this game about a year ago during a sale and it's been in the backlog ever since. That was a grave mistake, for me this game is a sleeper hit. After starting the game, I could not put it away. Even made it into the top 50 fastest achievers. The story is great, characters are diverse, the combat and quartz system is nicely done, and it has some great soundtracks (To Become the Foundation of an Era is by far my favourite). My favourite characters are Laura, Fie, Jusis, Crow, Emma, Towa, and Sara. Some characters were annoying at first, but luckily there's lots of character development. The story centers around Rean Schwarzer who enrolled at Thors Military Academy. He's placed in the newly formed Class VII, which has students from both nobility and common people. That's an entirely new concept as social standing is very important in the game's universe. In the empire are two major factions: the Noble alliance and Reformists. The Noble Alliance is led by the Four Great Houses and wants to return things to how they used to be when the nobility was in charge of everything. Most of them look down on common people and believe they're entitled to everything. The Reformists want equality for common people and want to diminish the nobility's control as much as possible. The Chancellor is the leader of this faction and he's been working on strengthening and expanding the empire by annexing smaller states. So far the Emperor has been able to keep both factions in check. Over the course of the game Class VII goes on field studies to learn more about the Empire and its underlying problems, while also trying to work out the issues between classmates. But behind the scenes things are unfolding and Class VII is dragged into major events. Each area feels different and the developers did a good job with this. The combat system is pretty in-depth. There are different kind of regular attacks (slash, pierce, thrust, and strike), which makes it possible to stagger enemies. That in turn leads to Link attacks if a link is formed between party members. These bonds can improved and that unlocks more perks. Later in the game Rush and Burst link attacks are unlocked. Besides that, each character has an ultimate move and their magic attacks can be customized at will with quartz and master quartz. These items add stat boosts, new magic attacks, support moves, add status ailments to attacks, or other passive effects. Master quartz can be levelled up for improved perks. There are a lot of missable collectibles in this game and @Leon Hasegawa's excellent Overall Walkthrough was invaluable to platting this game. The game ends with a cliffhanger, which is very nicely done. That definitely made me want to get the sequel immediately to find out what happens next. #174: √Letter January 1 2018 First plat of 2018. This is one of the games I was looking forward to a lot, despite the mixed feelings people seem to have about it. After playing the game I understand those mixed feelings. The story is about the protagonist who corresponded with a pen pal 15 years ago and comes across an unopened letter from her in which she admits to murder. The protagonist travels to the town she supposedly lived and tries to track down his pen pal and her friends from high school to figure out what happened. The game has 5 endings and I'd say Bond of Marriage would be the true ending. The ending itself is good, but the route is lacking and disappointing, much like the Crossing Paths route. In fact both of those aren't that different, which adds to the disappointment. Cursed Letter and Princess of Himegamori Forest are by far the most interesting routes, though Princess of Himegamori Forest feels incomplete as if it's missing a real ending. Government Plot is also pretty interesting, but also feels incomplete. I expected the true ending to deal with breaking Aya's curse and also thought there'd be an ending where the classmates killed Shiori and tried to cover that up . Too bad that didn't happen. #175: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II January 16 2018 After seeing the cliffhanger ending in the first game, I just had to find out what happened next. This game picks up a month after said ending. Rean sets out to find the members of Class VII. Most of the characters have some development, but I still didn't care about Elliot at all. My favourite characters still include Laura, Fie, Emma, Jusis, and Crow, but after playing this game Sara, Towa, Duvalie, Alfin, and Altina are added to that list. Locations from the previous game are revisited and when importing a save file, it's nice to see the references. My only gripe with the locations is that there aren't so many new ones, the majority is still from the first game. The story is excellent for the majority of the game, except for 2 specific parts. Both of these moments feel incredibly forced. The first one is a 'Luke I'm your father' moment and the other is Class VII graduating after only 1 year. At first the game makes it seem as if everyone is getting extra lessons to make up for the 2-month gap due to the war. However, talking to people reveals they're actually cramming the entire second year in just 3 months while also doing their regular first year lessons. For a game that's keen on talking and explaining things, this was just lazy on the developer's part. The reasons for everyone leaving is also very forced. Everyone except for 3 people didn't have urgent reasons to leave, yet they all left and Rean is left behind. It feels like Falcom did this just to have some added drama. The soundtrack is just as great as the first game and some of the new ones I liked a lot are Blue Destination, Phantasmal Blaze, and Awakening. The song I'll Remember You sounds nice too, even though I didn't understand a word of it. I liked the combat system from the first game a lot and it's expanded a bit in the sequel with Overdrive. When a gauge is full, it's possible to get 3 consecutive turns between a linked pair and do things like ultimate attacks or immediately casting magic without delays. Normal attacks are also guaranteed critical hits and Overdrive also heals all status ailments and restores some HP and CP. This may sound a bit too OP, but on Nightmare it's definitely needed, especially against the optional NG+ superboss. Trophy-wise this game is a lot less grindy compared to the first game. There's no trophy for winning 1,000 battles and obtaining 1 million mira (money) is so much easier since sepith are worth a lot more. In fact, I managed to get it at the end of the first playthrough by selling all sepith and some endgame equipment and quartz before reloading the save. There also isn't a trophy for playing 100 hours, which I only found out after playing for 100 hours without any trophy popping . I do wish the trophy images weren't completely identical to the first game, as I'm not a fan of recycled images. 176 - 200 Spoiler :platinum: #176: Steins;Gate 0 January 24 2018 This game starts during the true ending of Steins;Gate. In this game Okabe gives up on trying to reach the Steins Gate world line. The story mainly focuses on the evens on the Beta world line. Most of the routes are nicely done, but some things aren't answered, such as Spoiler who the woman in the motorcycle suit was during the New Year's party as Kagari was there and FB didn't send the Rounders. Yuki wasn't there and it's mentioned her arm hurts, but it's never clarified if she was the one and why she'd try to kidnap Maho. The most likely person would've been Reyes, but that's also never specified. Then there was that guy who wanted to kill Maho, Leskinen, and Okabe in the garage, but his reasons for doing so are also never revealed, nor who sent him. During the true ending Kagari is also somehow back to normal, while she was shot earlier and underwent plastic surgery to look like Yuki. No explanation is given as to why Kagari looks like herself again. It took a while to get used to Okabe being depressed and all as I liked his Hououin Kyouma persona a lot more. It was weird how the characters hadn't aged in some world lines, while parts of the story took place 14 and 25 years later. The true ending route also ends without revealing what happens, which I found disappointing. All in all it's a good game, but just a little more polishing would've made it better. :platinum: #177: Mary Skelter Nightmares February 9 2018 This game mixes various fairy tales together and the story is more faithful to the Brothers Grimm version. A city was consumed by the Jail and the inhabitants are now being tortured by Marchens (the enemies in this game), because they can. Jack and Alice are rescued by Red Riding Hood and try to find a way to escape the Jail. The story is ok, but gives the minimum amount. To find out more about characters, it's necessary to raise their affection and see events. Most of these are in the base, but some are in the dungeons. Hameln is by far my favourite character, followed by Gretel. The dungeons are nicely done and each represents a different fairy tale. The Underground Cavern dungeon was too big though and had lots of branching paths. Finding the correct route in that one was a pain, luckily, it was only 3 floors. One thing I liked about this game was the Jail Bonus system. Fulfilling certain requirements while exploring fills one of 3 gauges and when those are full, a roulette mini-game starts and players can choose a bonus. This can also happen during fights. All in all it's a fun dungeon crawler. :platinum: #178: Salt & Sanctuary February 20 2018 I've been waiting a long time to play this love child of Dark Souls and the metroidvania genre and it was definitely worth the wait. People who have played any of the Souls games will feel very familiar with this as most of the mechanics and controls are the same. Even the story is just as ambiguous and to understand it all, the lore on descriptions must be read. Then there are NPCs that move to different locations and their dialogue must be exhausted before taking on certain bosses. It took a bit to get used to the 2D format, but after an hour or so it all felt natural. As with Demon's Souls, I wanted to defeat the prologue boss too to get the rewards. However, this took 13 attempts to get it done, which was a good opportunity to try out all the classes. It was so worth it though, as the rewards are pretty good to start the game with. The Charms are a nice addition too, these give permanent effects to weapons for as long as they're equipped. The boss fights are unique too, which is always a good thing. Some of them weren't required for the plat, but I still defeated them all. The skill tree had its advantages and disadvantages. It's a good way to see which build to create for the character, but on the other hand not having a node unlocked also means not being able to equip certain weapons, armour, or even shields. One thing I didn't like was how there wasn't a better weapon to be found for almost half of the game. I did find starting gear for other classes, but nothing better. So it took ages and lots of retries to defeat a few of the bosses with my crappy starting weapon. Especially the Kraeken Wyrm was challenging, but eventually they all went down. That moment when I found an awesome Tachi when exploring made it all worthwhile, which is also the weapon I used for the remainder of the game. I also liked the pumpkin head helmet a lot, as that reminded me of Halloween and the Headless Horseman, which felt fitting for such a game. For the armour I went with something that was aesthetically pleasing. Though my biggest gripe with the game were certain platforming sections with disappearing platforms in the Pitchwoods. This couldn't be skipped as there was a trophy tied to reaching the Creed at the end. All in all a great 2D Souls game, which I recommend to everyone that likes the Souls games. :platinum: #179: Forma.8 February 23 2018 This game wasn't as much fun as I expected. You control a forma (round robot) that's deployed on a planet to explore it. Along the way you get more powers and defeat bosses. The bosses take some time to figure out how to beat them. The game's graphics are good, but that's about it for the pros. The cons far outweigh the pros. The game is boring, enemies are agile, can easily damage forma, and it takes a while to defeat some of them. My biggest gripe was how incredibly slow forma moves, which is completely unnecessary. All the collectables also need to be obtained to fight the true final boss, which isn't even a fight. I do like how these collectables unlock extra powers. All in all this game is disappointing. :platinum: #180: Grand Kingdom March 17 2018 Where to begin? I guess with some good things: the online wars are just fights against A.I.-controlled characters from other players. It's possible to transfer stats between equipment, that way it's possible to use the ones players like the most and also trick other people when using weaker weapons. Online wars are also very good to earn lots of exp, gold, and royals (a special currency). It's also possible to use up to 2 characters from other players during wars, it doesn't matter if they're working for a different nation. Wars are also a good place to get flags, but obtaining one is random. There's also a rare Monokuma flag that can only be acquired from a war. There are 17 areas that can be freely explored without being limited to an amount of steps and these have bounties. These are strong enemies that drop blueprints when defeated, which can be used to forge better equipment at a blacksmith. Now for the bad: the game depends too much on RNG for almost everything. Items and equipment received during quests and wars, equipment that's sold in a nation's store, skills that characters learn, abilities that characters have, and which characters can be hired. After completing a quest or a battle in an online war, the characters that can be recruited change. These characters learn some skills, but it's random which pattern it'll choose <_< . Likewise, characters have a passive ability that's also random. There's a trophy for one unit to learn all possible attack and support skills. For the attack skills this requires players to level up multiple units of the same class. Support skills requires at least one unit of each of the 17 classes. Besides that, there's one support skill that can only be received as a reward from a liege. You've guessed it, that's random too as it's possible to receive items and field skills too. There's a way to receive only a support skill, which raises the chance to obtaining it to 1/43. It took 94 hours and 42 minutes before I got that skill :shakefist:. Now to transfer all skills to a single character, there's a mechanic called Gran Grimoire. That basically means a skill can be duplicated and taught to another unit. This sounds really neat, which it is, but there's a requirement: a skill needs to be leveled up to lvl 3 to create a grimoire. Only equipped skills gain mastery when finishing a fight, regardless of they're used or not. A character can have 1 field skill, 7 attack skills, and 4 support skills, though support skills requires SP to equip. Each skill needs 1,000 mastery points to level up once and each fight yields 18 points. It's possible to level up attack skills faster by equipping certain pyroxene. These are items that can be added to weapons and armour and have various effects, such as increasing skill power, reducing skill damage, increasing stats, or increase a specific attack skill mastery. There are 3 types of attack skills (melee, ranged, and arcane) and each one has 3 sub-types. Obtaining the right pyroxene is, of course, random. Support skills can't level up faster though, unless an online war has a Skill+ effect. It's also possible to use an Orb of Training, which makes it possible to create a grimoire with only 1 level of mastery. And yep, these are random and also very rare  . But that's not all RNGrand Kingdom has to offer, there is a mechanic known as policy points. These increase the amount of exp, gold, or royals, and requires players to do some tasks. When the player's mercenary rank increases, the amount of policy points increase too as do the requirements for the tasks. I wasn't aware of this at first, so didn't focus on policy points when my rank was low. It's not clear what the requirements are for increasing a mercenary rank, so getting to rank S took a lot of time too. That about covers all the major grinds for the platinum. I also tried to create a perfect unit that has rank S for all 9 stats by doing a Class Up, which was an optional grind. Doing this requires tomes and scrolls that are specific for each stat and obtaining them is random. Story quests always have a tome, scroll, or Orb of Training. A tome increases a stat rank by 2 and a scroll by 1. To use a tome, a character needs to be at least level 30 and a scroll has a requirement of level 20. Using either of these reverts a character back to level 1 and adds extra stat points to invest based on how much a rank increased. This can't be used to learn new skills though, I already tried that. When a stat rank is increased, you'll get bonus points faster. At rank F you need to invest 8 stat points to get a bonus point, while at rank S every 2 points yield a bonus point. Doing this was very tedious, so I only upgraded 6 stats to rank S (see the image in the spoiler below). The results were above expectations though, as the Valkyrie class unit tore through most of the enemies with ease. This is the same unit I used to learn all skills, so it seemed fitting to make it a perfect unit. Doing a Class Up also unlocks extra colour palettes for the armour, but only for that unit and not for other units of the same class. Up to 4 palettes can be added this way and some of the best are among those 4. Near-perfect Valkyrie unit Spoiler This near-perfect Valkyrie unit also helped a lot to defeat a Hero from the previous war. During a war the player from each of the 4 nations that has the most points becomes a Hero and acquires Hero weapons. Defeating an A.I.-controlled Hero rewards a player with a Hero weapon with the Hero's username on it. Heroes only show up randomly after many consecutive victories and it took 3 attempts to figure out a strategy to defeat @Shinumade, which yielded the King's Spike spear (shown in the image above). With the new Hero weapon added to the Valkyrie I was able to become a Hero myself for Landerth (one of the 4 nations) during the 663rd war, which was a nice way to finish up this game. Since I already got a spear, I got the King's Hammer for becoming a Hero, which has my username engraved on it B) . The bard in Landerth will sing a song about each Hero until the next war ends, which is a nice addition. Becoming a Hero Spoiler The bard's song, in hindsight I really should've picked a better name for my mercenary squad  . Spoiler All in all, this game was fun at the start, became boring and grindy afterwards, but trying to become a Hero was fun again. Also if anyone wants to hire the Valkyrie unit, my search tag is Dragon. Note that you have to be at least lvl 94 to hire her. :platinum: #181: God Eater 2 Rage Burst June 1 2018 This plat image isn't nearly as badass as the one from GE Resurrection. It's also way too blurry. Anyway, this game takes place 3 years after the events of GER. The Aragami continued to evolve and some variants gained the ability to disable God Arcs (the only weapons that can kill Aragami). In response Fenrir created the Friar division that researched for a way to defeat these Aragami. This resulted in the creation of the Blood unit, which the player's character joins at the start of the game. Members of Blood can use Blood Powers. This game improves some of the gripes I had with the first game: there are a lot more Aragami, there are a lot more areas where missions take place, and the Fierce Kongou doesn't take forever to kill anymore. Though the developers added a new variant (Rakshasa Kongou) that's even more annoying to defeat, especially when there's 3 or 4 of them. The story is good and I like how most of the characters from the first game make an appearance. Would've liked it if it was possible to import a save file from GER and meet the main character from the first game in GE2RB. Emil used to annoy me a lot, but after a while he grew on me (though this event helped a lot with that). My favourite Aragami (Hannibal and Susano'o) from the first game returned. From the new enemies the Kyuubi is my favourite one. Orochi was a huge disappointment as it resembles a 3-headed dog instead of an 8-headed serpent, so the name "Cerberus" would've been better. My most hated enemy type is still the Kongou and its variants. New additions are Character Episodes, Blood Arts, Blood Bullets, and Blood Rage. Character Episodes are side stories about certain characters. Blood Arts and Blood Bullets add various effects to melee attacks and gun attacks. Blood Rage makes your character invincible and very powerful for 30 seconds, but only if you manage to activate it. Obtaining a full set of rank 15 equipment is also much easier than the first game. Some things I didn't like were unlocking Blood Arts, as this requires using the same attack over and over again. It's way too grindy. The equipment in GER felt more balanced as they had some good skills. The ones in GE2RB only have a few good ones, which means relying on RNG to obtain good ones. Obtaining 400 pieces of clothing was also unnecessary and way too grindy. It's a shame that male clothing is still so disappointing. There are hardly any good outfits, while female characters have a lot of good ones. Just like with the first game, I would've liked some kind of romance system. All in all it's a very entertaining game. I liked it so much, that I created a second character and did another playthrough. :platinum: #182: Demon Gaze II June 15 2018 The first game was a hidden gem for me, so the expectations were high for this one. The story is good, but it feels like a standalone game until reaching the post-game part. That's when an overarching story is explained that ties in events from both games and also mentions some things that could be used for a third game. The characters were diverse and it was nice to see some from the previous game. Though Muse and Prim looked like a mix of Fran from the first game and Alice from Operation Abyss (another game from the same developer). The sequel also improved some things from the first game: party members now have a role in the story, the horrible rent system is gone, and information is provided about what each stat does. Some things I didn't like was the reduced amount of dungeons and not being able to save at summon circles anymore when save-scumming for artefacts. Besides that, gold is hard to come by at the start due to the rent system being removed and enemies don't drop gems anymore (which are used at summon circles to obtain loot), so these need to be bought. The music from the first game was also better. After beating the story and the post-game boss, the free DLC that's included in the English version is accessible. This DLC easily takes 40+ hours to complete, which is great. There are a lot of developers who could learn a thing or two about creating good DLC. This DLC takes place in the area of the first game and also gives players the opportunity to find out how other characters are doing. As a bonus only the music from the first game plays during this DLC. All in all it's a good sequel, but I liked the story from the first game a bit more. :platinum: #183: Criminal Girls Invite Only July 4 2018 In this game souls of delinquents are sent to Hell in order to go through a reformation program to accept their sins and change their ways. This is done by climbing the Spire. Doing so will allow them to be reborn on Earth. You play as the one in charge of a group and your task is to guide them through the Spire and motivate them. The story was better than I thought and my favourite character is Himekami. Motivating characters is done through mini-games. The EU/NA version has censored images in these mini-games, but the censoring doesn't make any sense. Some images have pink fog if a character's underwear is shown and others do not. Motivating also unlocks new skills to use during battles. Combat is a little different, as skills are seemingly randomly chosen. I say seemingly, because after playing the game I noticed that it depends on which enemy is fought. If you fight one that's weak to ice, ice skills will show up more often. Whenever an enemy was charging a powerful attack, the guard option would almost always appear. Then there are enemies like Greater Devil, that almost always have a magic skill and/or hard hitting melee skill to choose. The second turn usually had regular crappy melee attacks, then the third turn included a skill, then crappy melee again, etc. So it seems to be preset patterns and skill pools and not completely random. During each turn in combat 1 item can be used as well. To get each character's ending it's necessary to turn them into knights and beat the boss, which means doing this 7 times. Then one of those save files that unlocked an ending needs to be reloaded in order to beat the boss again to continue the story. All in all defeating that boss 8 times was way too much, especially since that boss liked to hit the entire party with status ailments, charge an attack, and use an attack that randomly hits 9 times. The true final boss of the true ending route was also very cheap. It had an attack that hits the party 13 times and it could do 2 actions per turn. When it had around 25% health left, it would do that attack twice per turn, which could bring a party at full health to 1-2 at critical health and the other 2-3 dead. The boss would use it twice per turn, followed by once, then twice again the next turn until it was defeated or until my party was dead. This is a very cheap way to make something hard and left a bitter aftertaste, as this was the final thing to do for the platinum trophy. So, I saved up money and bought items that could ignore RNG and make a character's special knight ability available and it wouldn't even cost mp to use. That way the tank would use her special skill that makes the party immune to all melee and magic damage for 2 turns and my hardest-hitting character would use her special ability the second turn to do 10,000-11,000 damage with buffs. After 5 of these attacks the boss was defeated. All in all I had fun with the game, but it has some flaws. I might give the sequel a try when it's on sale. :platinum: #184: Adventures of Mana July 8 2018 It's a fun oldschool RPG that reminded me a lot of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Time in terms of gameplay and mechanics with its top-down view, tile world, and beating dungeons to obtain items that are needed to progress further. The bosses were hardly a challenge and grinding to level 99 was completely unnecessary, as the game is easy enough already. The story was surprisingly sad. Characters and some parts of the plot could also be fleshed out more. :platinum: #185: Cat Quest July 14 2018 The dragons were thought to be extinct for hundreds of years, but suddenly they've returned. Only the one with the soul blood of a dragon can save everyone. Let's hope he doesn't take an arrow in the knee :awesome:. As a catperson and (self-proclaimed) RPG connoisseur I've been interested in this game since it was announced. The game is described as a mix of Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Skyrim. While I get the Skyrim (dragonborn, story, exploration) and Final Fantasy (overworld) part, the Zelda part isn't clear. There aren't any hard puzzles or dungeons in the game. In fact all the caves are similar to Skyrim's caves, as in short and not very rewarding at all. At first I explored every cave, until realizing that most side quests required me to go through the ones I already explored. Luckily, caves have a recommended level and the ones that haven't been conquered are marked. The lore was nicely done with information about the dragon war and a war with the dog kingdom. The story isn't anything mindblowing, nor was I expecting it to be. Most of the plot can easily be deduced from playing the game, but there was one twist I wasn't expecting, which was nice. The end of the story can be used to set things up for a sequel and I was happy to find out that a Cat Quest 2 is already in development. I also liked how it was possible to upgrade equipment when finding a duplicate version. Combat is simple: use melee to restore mp, use mp for powerful attacks and buffs, and dodge roll away when the enemy is about to attack. Repeat until victory is achieved. All in all it's a short and fun RPG that restored a bit of faith about indie games. :platinum: #186: Ratchet & Clank (Reboot) August 13 2018 I finally got around to playing this game, got it with the PS4 over a year ago. This game retells the events from the first game, but changes some things. There are some new characters and Nefarious and the Galactic Rangers are introduced too (those originally made a debut in the third game). The game looked amazing. I also liked how the sound of combat and music was almost muted while being underwater, which added to the feeling. Then there was the whole narrated approach of the game, where Qwark recounts the events with some hilarious parts. This was also a good way to incorporate hints into the game. The maps of some worlds felt identical to the ones from the first game, which was great. I just wish some of the new characters were fleshed out a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing more reboots like these, though a new game would be better. :platinum: #187: Cyberdimension Neptunia 4 Goddesses Online August 13 2018 Due to this game being a parody of Sword Art Online, it piqued my interest. In this game the main characters are selected for the beta of the MMO 4 Goddesses Online. The game was entertaining, but the digital version has an issue where it would randomly close the game and also made it impossible to move around during boss fights. This latter bug meant not being able to dodge and having to rely on blocking. The game is on the short side, so bosses are recycled a lot for quests. :platinum: #188: Batman August 13 2018 I've never been a fan of Batman, so when this game came to PS+ I went in with no expectations. It turned out to be quite nice, especially the stuff about Bruce Wayne's parents. Don't know if any of that is canon, but it sure was interesting. Some characters were familiar from movies and others were new for me. Quite a few villains appear and the identity of the main villain was a real surprise. I did not see that coming. The ending sets things up for a sequel, which I'll definitely give a try some day. I've read some horror stories about the game crashing and being unplayable. Luckily, I didn't have any of those issues. Only in episode 2 there were a couple of completely black backgrounds and characters were looking in awkward directions during a few conversations. :platinum: #189: Dust: An Elysian Tail August 15 2018 Another PS+ freebie and a very good example of indie games that work perfectly. You play as Dust: a person that doesn't remember anything and is found by a mysterious, talking sword. The sword guides Dust to recover his memories, all the while hinting it knows more than it tells. The sword's guardian, Fidget, is a great source of comic relief. It reminded me of Daxter from Naughty Dog's Jak series, both in terms of appearance and the bragging. She also breaks the 4th wall in a hilarious way. Enemies in chapter 4 and 5 are very strong on Tough difficulty, so defeating them took a while. When doing a clean up before finishing the story, I got enough money and items to create the best equipment, which came with lots of multipliers for Fidget's attacks. They all stack, so that made it possible to breeze through them. Something I liked a lot about this game was being able to sell items that enemies drop. The stores would then add more of these items over time, which removed the need to waste time farming items. IMO more games should add this feature. The one flaw it has are the challenges: there are 6 obstacle courses that need to be cleared with a specific high score. The fourth challenge is by far the most annoying one due to the sliding mechanism not responding when trying to slide quickly, which results in Dust jumping instead. I really hope there will be a sequel (minus the challenges), as this game is fantastic. :platinum: #190: Apotheon August 16 2018 Another indie metroidvania game. Unlike Dust, this one had some bugs. There was a patch released, but there's still a bug that can cause the game to crash every time when opening a loot box (all 75 of them must be opened for a trophy). The game even crashed twice when trying to save before opening a loot box  . In this game the Greek gods have abandoned humanity and they're slowly dying from diseases, famine, and slaughter. Hera has pity on humanity and tasks Nikandreos to travel to Olympus to gather divine objects that would help humanity survive. At first I was worried that this would feel like a 2D clone of God of War, but that wasn't the case. There's no level up system and Nikandreos only becomes stronger after obtaining these objects. Then there's an armour gauge that increases after finding/buying any armour. Those all contribute to the same gauge. Besides that, weapon damage and speed can be increased by paying for lessons at weapon masters. That's all the "leveling" in the game, which doesn't give much incentive to fight enemies. I tried to fight new ones, but but it becomes a bit boring after a while, especially when dealing with annoying ones, such as wolfs in Artemis' hunting grounds. That is a shame, because there are lots of weapons in the game. These weapons will break eventually and there's no way to restore their durability. The repair kits in this game don't help, because those restore Nikandreos' armour gauge. Athena's labyrinth trials were a nightmare to complete, especially when the targets were off screen. Whoever designed that is a sadist. The ending was an unexpected surprise. I'd like to see other games like this based on Egyptian, Mayan, Chinese, and Japanese mythologies. :platinum: #191: Tales from the Borderlands August 16 2018 I already played this game before and it became my favourite TellTale game to date. So when it came to PS+, I gladly played it again. It was fun to choose different options and see how things unfolded. Too bad I still wasn't able to unlock the mysterious Vault Hunters at the end. :platinum: #192: Valkyria Chronicles September 18 2018 This plat is also trophy #9,000. It's the first time I've played a Valkyria game and I liked it. It's a strategic war game where you have to defeat enemy soldiers/tanks, capture bases, or defeat bosses. Soldiers are divided into 5 classes, each with their advantages and disadvantages. Completing missions yields money and experience, those can be used to research better weapons and level up units for more health and effects. Besides that, there are Aces, which are stronger regular enemies. Defeating them yields bonus exp, money, and their weapon. There's also an actual story and most of the characters are interesting. However, this game also has its flaws. Bosses are very overpowered, even cheap (looking at you mission 7, 10B, and 15B). During the enemy's turn it's not possible to skip or fast forward their walking animation. This is worse when the enemy can move a lot of soldiers or is crawling through high grass and seems to take forever. In some missions it took more than 2 minutes before the enemy's turn was over. The final flaw is the ranking system for missions that's completely unbalanced. The rank determines how much money and exp is received, these range from A to D. The criteria for the ranking solely depends on how fast a mission is completed. That's it. Enemies defeated, bases captured, allies that weren't injured don't count for anything. This results in obtaining mostly C and D ranks during the first playthrough. Story missions can't be replayed during the first playthrough, so the game forces players to do skirmishes (these battles similar to story missions without bosses that yield a lot less exp and money). All the while tons of exp and money is needed for leveling and research. Players are punished for taking their time with strategic game by playing tactically. During NG+ levels and research carries over, so it's easy to run past groups of enemies (and even tanks) with a single soldier while brushing off a hail of bullets in order to rush to the enemy's main camp for an A rank. This yields a ton of exp and money, but there's no need for it anymore. There's a trophy for completing every battle with an A rank, so this must be done. I don't know what the developers were thinking when deciding upon this ranking system for a strategic game. I'm glad to know these flaws have been fixed in other Valkyria games and I'll definitely try out more of them in the future. :platinum: #193: Toukiden The Age of Demons October 7 2018 First of all, I'd like to thank @viech54 and @ab4h4r4k1 for exchanging avatars with me, which allowed me to use their avatars as A.I. party members. As usual, I'll start with some of the good things about this game. I liked the story, it's nothing original for a monster hunting game though: humanity is losing -> player character arrives to turn the tide. In this game an event occurred 8 years prior to the start of the game where oni (demons) invaded the human world. Only Slayers can defeat these demons and purify them. I also liked how a special ability (Eye of Truth) makes it possible to see the health bar and breakable parts. These parts are also colour-coded to indicate how close they are to breaking. Now for the bad things *cracks knuckles*. First of all, the game has no f#$%ing jump feature, while there are large oni that sometimes don't even fit on the screen. What kind of idiot thought that shouldn't warrant jumping. Two out of 6 weapons have a leap attack, which is the closest thing to jumping. There's also a bow, but it's not that good due to not being able to track oni fast enough. Some large oni receive a huge speedboost when they're in perma-rage mode. The biggest grinds in this game are to obtain at least 1 of every material for the slayer record + area record and collecting all mitama (souls of fallen heroes that grant abilities and buffs). Collecting 1 of every material applies to both enemy drops and materials that are found in mission areas. To make things worse: the post-game maps have a completely new list of materials (both for areas and enemies). In addition to that: there's a specific material (Eye of Truth Mask) that can only be obtained by breaking every part of large oni. However, breaking every part doesn't guarantee an Eye of Truth Mask will be obtained. Oh no, you just have a chance to obtain it. And this material must be obtained for every single large oni to completely fill out the slayer record. Areas can also have an Eye of Truth Mask as a pickup reward, but again, this is random and has to be obtained for every area to fill out the area record. As if all that wasn't bad enough, materials obtained for completing a mission doesn't even count towards the slayer record and area record. Which means it's necessary to obtain the Eye of Truth Mask 30 times (once for every area and once for every large oni). There are also small, grunt oni that have enemy drops, but luckily no Eye of Truth Mask. But fear not, the developer found a way to add annoying things for small oni too. There are special version of a few small oni that only spawn after killing the regular version and coming back to the area. Besides that, there are shadow oni, which are usually invisible and can only be seen with the Eye of Truth ability. However, these shadow oni have a chance to spawn. The A.I. party members get in the way most of the time, as there's no way to issue commands. For example: after a part has been broken, it must be purified. Otherwise the oni can regenerate it and that wouldn't count as breaking all parts. When breaking a part it's random whether or not the A.I. helps out with purification or keeps attacking. Another thing is the A.I. continuously attacking parts that have been broken, which deals more damage. That in turn makes it needlessly harder to break all parts before the oni is defeated. Or when an oni uses an AoE attack that lingers, the A.I. just charges through it, instead of going around it. How hard would it be for the developer to add a command system so that the retarded A.I would prioritize purification, hang back, go all out, or even focus on reviving? Apparently not that hard, as it's been added in Toukiden Kiwami. It's possible to take fewer party members, but this results in fights taking longer to finish, which is highly unwanted when farming for mitama. There are 200 mitama in the game and about 5 are story-related. The rest has to be farmed from oni. Mitama have a chance to be dropped from oni and you can't just fight the easiest mission ~195 times. Nope, mitama are dropped only by fighting the correct oni in the correct map. Of course there are different drops in the post-game maps. Then there are story missions and online missions. You've probably guessed it by now: some mitama are exclusive to story missions due to the area-oni combination. It's actually better to use the online missions, as it's possible to use other players' avatars as NPCs during these. Not only are those a huge improvement over regular A.I. members in terms of damage output and skills, but it's possible to stack a buff that increases the chance to obtain a mitama. Each player character can have 2 of these Heroes Guidance buffs, so a party has a maximum of 8. The avatars I received both had 2 of these buffs, which didn't disappear after a mission. That's right, having these buffs on your own character means it'll disappear after completing a mission. Obtaining them is up to RNG too, as one is obtained by visiting the Pool of Purity with a specific character. This character is fixed and only changes when completing a mission. The other one is obtained by making a donation to the offering box. This last one can be save scummed though. Remember those shadow oni I mentioned earlier? Well, those have a grand total of 24 mitama too. There are 2 shadow oni and there's one for each map and post-game map. Getting them to spawn (and more importantly, obtaining the mitama) is up to RNG too. There are 2 DLC packs that have guaranteed shadow oni spawns, which makes it possible to obtain 8 out of those 24 mitama. I eventually caved in and bought them. There was also an error in this mitama checklist: Kajiwara Kagetoki isn't obtained from Honour Bloodhunter, but Honour Manhunter. I wasted a lot of time trying to obtain it from Bloodhunter. After 50 attempts, I moved on to shadow oni farming and got it the first time from Manhunter. I can't believe no one updated the checklist in the ~4 years since the game has been released. One final thing I'd like to point out is how easy it is to be knocked back or even ragdolled by large oni to the point it's incredibly cheap. For example: when an oni starts to fly, lands, or even roars, you're knocked back. Getting hit with attacks results in ragdolling for 10 kilometers. And the oni love to spam the same attacks a few times in a row. So, recapping: I do NOT recommend this game at all. It has huge, pointless grinds, retarded A.I, and terrible RNG. You'd be better off with Toukiden Kiwami, as the trophy for completing the slayer record is removed and a few things are improved. :platinum: #194 Claire October 9 2018 This game is very similar to Lone Survivor, only there are demonic entities instead of zombies. The game is divided into a few areas and going towards the best ending reveals bits and pieces of Claire's past with some parts open to interpretation. In addition to a health indicator there's also a sanity indicator, which will reduce your health on higher difficulties when it gets low. On Nightmare it's necessary to be fast in order to prevent the sanity from staying low all the time. :platinum: #195: Mind=0 October 23 2018 In this game teenagers are transported to another world where they form contracts with other beings to fight together. These beings are called MINDs and people that have a contract are Minders. This game may be the biggest bomb of 2018 so far. It's best described as a terrible Persona clone. But, I'm getting ahead of myself: before going into details about that, let's take a look at the good things first. *Thinks long and hard for a while* right, good things about this game :hmm: ... oh, I got one: it's possible to equip/unequip skills in this game, provided you have the necessary skill card. That way you can adapt to new dungeons and boss fights. In case you're thinking "Is that it? Nothing else was good about the game??", then congrats; we're on the same page. And nope, that's it for the good things. The story ... well, calling it a story is actually way too much credit. Anyway, the story is very lacking and doesn't explain anything, except for the basics about MINDs. That's it, there's a very brief explanation about the bad guy's plan at the end, but the majority isn't explained. This game just feels like a prologue that overstays its welcome and it was obviously intended to have a sequel. The story also takes place over the course of 9-10 days. After the initial meeting (and getting their butts kicked), the party is somehow strong enough to defeat the bad guys 2-4 days later. The antagonists are introduced exactly halfway through the game. Before that the main characters wind up in dungeons filled with hostile MINDs that want to kill them, so the logical conclusion is to reach the end of the dungeon rather than finding the exit. Once the antagonists are introduced, not much changes. Nothing is revealed. Only after defeating each of them, you see a short scene (for a lack of better word, as it's just a black and white screen with some dialogue) that vaguely implies why they joined. Even their fate is not clear. One is confirmed to have died (for reasons unknown), one got away, and the other two... I don't know: they could be dead or escaped :dunno: . If it wasn't for the confirmation about one of them dying, I never would've guessed it. Most dungeons are very uninspired and the interior is recycled often. Interiors include an abandoned factory, subway trains, pure white mental facility-ish setting, back alley shopping street where every store's shutters are closed, and some hideous thing that resembles a 3-year old's colouring book. I liked the Japanese festival-ish theme and the movie theater though. The post-game dungeon had nothing new, instead it recycled every other dungeon. Enemies are also recycled over and over again with just a palette swap. After the second dungeon there's only 1 new enemy per dungeon. There's no character growth or real events that make you care about the characters. There are 4 events per main character, but those don't add anything useful. Enhancing skills at first doesn't seem to do anything, as the skill's description doesn't reflect the changes. You need to manually equip a skill, then take a look at the stat boosts or damage inflicted to notice the difference. Also, enhancing skills in one go from start to max costs much less skill points. If you raise a skill a few levels per time, the cost goes up about 100 times. Finally, there's no item to escape from dungeons, you need to reach a warp portal. This is especially annoying in the post-game dungeon, where you need to backtrack from floor 50 to floor 42 to escape, which is BS. :platinum: #196: Rogue Legacy November 12 2018 This game is great, it starts out hard, but after leveling up things went much better. Upon dying, you choose an heir to continue the adventure, which are randomly generated. There are 9 classes to choose from, each with their pros and cons. The most expensive class to unlocks the Dragon class, which is the most useless of all due to the limited range and weak attacks. Clearly the devs don't know that a dragon is supposed to be OP. Heirs can also have up to 2 traits, which add fun effects, such as sepia screen or floor spike traps not activating. The objective of this game is to explore the castle to defeat the 4 bosses, which opens the door to the final boss. The castle is randomly generated too when dying, unless the Architect is used to lock it down, which is useful to practice boss fights. After defeating the regular bosses it's possible to fight remix versions of them, which are basically much harder versions that are fought with a preset character.Alexander IV and Neo Khidr. Defeating all 5 bosses unlocks the Traitor class, which is the best one in the game. Using it against the final boss adds a fun part to the dialogue. After defeating the remix bosses, completing the game with 15 deaths or less was a lot easier than expected. Dragon-Archon
For some reason the second post can't be edited anymore, so I'm just going to continue it here. 197 - 200 Spoiler #197: Dungeon Travelers 2 January 22 2019 Another dungeon crawler. In this game the Demon God was sealed away a few hundreds years ago, but the seal is weakening. It's up to the Royal Library to prevent the Demon God from resurrecting. You play as Fried, a Libra completely focused on studying monsters and incredibly dense to the point of not noticing anything about every party member having feelings for him. He hardly has a personality at all. The party members are somewhat interesting and my favourites are Grishna, Mefmera, and Yae. The story is pretty meh and very predictable. It needed to be fleshed out a lot more. The game does have a lot of different classes and there are some funny ones among them, such as Maid or Joker. I also like that each party member has a unique outfit when changing classes. Even if you have 2 party members of the same class, their outfits are completely different. There's also a huge grind to defeat 20,000 enemies, which the game doesn't keep track of. I reached 5,000 just before the final boss so tried the post-game content. The post-game content has 8 dungeons (2 less than the story mode) and takes a long while to complete. I gave up on completing those in the final dungeon and farmed kills in early dungeons. The trophy popped after farming 6,000-7,000 kills. This grind put a huge damper on the fun factor. #198: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance March 12 2019 I was looking forward to this game a lot, since it was a KH game I didn't play before. But it turned out to be a horrible experience. As usual, let's take a look at the good things: I like the Flowmotion mechanic, that makes it easier to traverse areas, which have become bigger and bigger since KH1. The game has some new brand new worlds and Hunchback of the Notre Dame surprised me a lot, as I don't really like the movie. My biggest issue from KH Birth by Sleep was solved: the story doesn't require multiple playthroughs with a character and the reports are shared. The things I disliked are: the worlds don't add anything to the overall story (far less compared to previous games), the pokemon mechanic feels out of place in Kingdom Hearts, the Flick Rush mini-game is a boring KH Chain of Memories-ish card game where the opponents cheat on the highest difficulty by immediately cancelling an attack and going into defense mode, there are way too many secret portals (78 in total) and you only have access to 1 per world per character. Switching between characters randomly unlocks a new portal, so completing them all is a boring chore as the game will open ones that you've completed before. Now that doesn't sound too horrible and it isn't. However, the reports have glitched trophies. I encountered that glitch and reloaded an earlier save file (about 10 hours of post-game clean up had to be redone) and it still didn't unlock. Afterwards, I deleted everything and started a brand new playthrough, doing everything over again... and the trophy still didn't pop. So, afterwards I re-downloaded the save from the first playthrough again and thought to give it one more try before giving up. And this time it popped when fulfilling the requirement. I have no idea what caused the glitch, nor what solved it, but I'm glad it worked in the end. #199: God Eater 3 March 24 2019 First of all, what's up with the plat image? Where is the badass Fenrir logo, or even the Gleipnir logo? Moving on, this game has it's pros and cons. The story is good, but game mechanics were overhauled and the bullets + skills were nerfed a lot. In GE3 custom bullets can be fired a limited amount of times and you can only take up to 6 custom bullets with you. The amount of skills that can be equipped and the quality of the skills has been lowered significantly. In GER and GE2 skills could to up to lvl 10 and there were even compoound skills that contained 2-4 other skills, but only took up 1 skill slot. In GE3 skills only go to lvl 5 and there are no compound skills. I really hope the GE3 expansion will bring back compound skills, as I like to spent time farming compound skills and become a god-like character. Besides that, the outfits are mostly the same too, with only minor differences, such as short sleeves, straight collar, etc. For some outfits I can't even tell what's different. The devs have released a few patches that adds more outfits and customization options, so I'm hoping that continues. There are some good things too, such as an upgrade tree that shows the different upgrade paths of weapons and shields. That makes it easy to see which materials are needed. The new weapons are great too and I especially like the dual wield weapon that transforms into a double bladed glaive. There are lots of new enemies too and 2 of my favourites are in the game too ( those are Hannibal and Kyuubi). I'm hoping Susano'o makes it to the game too at some point. There's also a new mechanic called Engage, that allows 2 party members to link together and share other mechanics (Burst mode and Acceleration Trigger). This sort of offsets the nerfed skills, albeit temporary, as Burst, Acceleration Trigger, and Engage don't last very long. Besides being able to co-op the story, there are special co-op missions (called assault missions) that have a time limit of 5 minutes. These missions are the only way to unlock new Engage effects, which sucks. Because you unlock the effects that other members of your party have at the end. It's not necessary for the platinum trophy to obtain any of these, but I like creating a great build, so I spent a few hours doing assault missions and got all but 3 Engage effects. Starting a new character doesn't transfer the unlocked Engage effects, meaning those need to be unlocked from scratch again. Patch 1.20 added 60 new challenge missions: there are 30 standard missions that can be done with a party and there are 30 elite missions, which are identical to the standard missions, but must be done solo. Completing these adds new customization options and new outfits of your party members. There's also a new enemy in mission 20. I managed to complete all 30 standard missions and currently have completed 14 elite missions. I'm going to attempt to complete the last 16 too. #200: Kingdom Hearts III March 24 2019 Here it is, platinum trophy #200 . I've been wanting a Kingdom Hearts plat as a milestone for a long time now and was planning to make the first KH game plat #75, but that failed. I've been looking forward to this game since KH2 was released back in 2005 and I must say, the game wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but more about that later. The game picks up immediately where 0.2 A Fragmentary Passage left of. First, the good things. IMO it's best thing are the graphics: the game is visually amazing. Yep, that's right: not the story or bosses, but the visuals. The gummi ship part has been improved too: the missions have a very similar setup to KH2, but outside of missions is a free roam part. The intro song (Face My Fears) is amazing, I have a very hard time deciding if it's better than Simple and Clean (the intro song of the first game), which is one of the best intro songs I've seen in games. It's possible to equip 3 keyblades and switch between those, though it's not possible to wield those simultaneously (or even dual wield 2 keyblades). Twilight Town was full of NPCs, which made it feel alive as opposed to Traverse Town and Twilight Town from the previous games, which felt completely deserted. Olympus finally follows the events from the movie. As for what's disappointing about the game, well that's quite a lot sadly. The Disney worlds felt like filler content or just a way too long prologue, since that added nothing to the story. Suddenly, the plot picks up during the last 3-4 hours and all Organization members are fought in the last world. I wish that was balanced more. The final clash between light and dark has been revealed in Dream Drop Distance, so having only 4 hours of overall story content is outrageous for a €60 game. Sora is still treated as the hero that solves everything, even though Riku and Mickey had a much harder job. In fact, every other Guardian of Light except Sora didn't get much screentime at all. Maleficent and Pete's role was also non-existent, which was disappointing. Most of the world's story could've been better too. It looks like Disney didn't want the plot of new movies revealed, so the story feels rushed and incomplete. Almost as if Disney wants to say: "Oh you want to understand what's happening? Well, #$%& you, go watch the movie." In previous KH game Sora would experience the story of the movie, but in worlds like Arendelle and Kingdom of Corona, the story occurs mostly when Sora isn't there (you don't even get to visit the town of Arendelle). The final boss fights were a bit of a letdown too: Xehanort mostly uses very fast attacks that can't be dodged or blocked when in the middle of a combo and moves away after he's done. By the time I caught up, he was already doing his next attack. Twilight Town was disappointingly short too. Radiant Garden only appeared in cutscenes and not a single Final Fantasy character was in the game. Most of the boss fight soundtrack is recycled from previous games, which is a letdown. The final fights even have a remix of other tracks with something new thrown in there. I do like the battle ost from The Caribbean and Scala ad Caelum. I'm surprised those weren't used as the ost for the final fight. The game is also very easy and there's just 1 post-game boss, which also uses dashes and extremely fast combos. Those dashes and fast combos artificially increase the difficulty somewhat, but that's just a cheap way of making something harder. The loading times are atrocious and can take more than 30 seconds to load. All in all I have very mixed feelings about the game. It feels like a half game, just like DDD, where the worlds don't matter as the story doesn't progress until the end. Dream Drop Distance, 0.2 A Fragmentary Passage, and KH3 barely have enough story content to form 1 game. 201 - 225 Spoiler #201: Omega Quintet April 21 2019 I bought this game from a sale for €5 and figured to give it a try, since it seemed similar to the Hyperdimension Neptunia series (another series from the same developer), which were enjoyable games. But let me tell you, that was a mistake. The story is simple: a 100 years ago the Blare (monsters from another dimension) invaded and now humanity only has a single city left. The only reason humanity hasn't been extinct yet is due to Verse Maidens: teen idols that use their special singing and dancing powers to defeat Blare... and if that doesn't work, they're armed with special weapons that will kill Blare. After 4 chapters the gang has been assembled and the story doesn't progress at all until the end of chapter 8. Between chapters 4 and 8 it's just completing quests and defeating bosses. Even the final boss was a letdown. Its reasons for doing everything was just for lolz. The game needs to be completed on Advanced difficulty (the highest difficulty), otherwise the post-game dungeon can't be completed. On Advanced mode enemies have more health, inflict more damage, and they spam Order Break. That is a mechanic where enemies can get 1-3 extra turns in a row, even when it's your turn. This is completely BS in a turn-based game. During boss fights this usually means the party is annihilated. Another BS mechanic is outfits that can be destroyed. Outfits requires money to repair and to improve, but money is very scarce. Players are only punished when outfits break (they have less defence, voltage decreases upon breaking, amp effect disappears, not being able to use Live Concert, voltage hardly increases) and there are no bonuses when keeping those intact. Then there's the cost for repairing outfits that increases when outfits are improved. Voltage is needed for ultimate attacks and amps adds passive effects, such as higher stats, more exp, etc. It just feels like this was all set up to force players to purchase DLC resource packs. Finally, there are the grinds. Lots of these are pointless and take dozens of hours to complete. There's one for obtaining 1 billion approval, which is only used to unlock side quests. However, the final side quests unlocks at 350 million approval. This means having to successfully fight the same two bosses 100+ times to reach 1 billion and reloading a lot when the boss uses Order Break at the start of the fight if there aren't at least 3 grunt enemies that accompany both bosses. Next is affinity, every member must reach level 5 affinity. As far as I know affinity doesn't affect anything stat-wise. Only 2 people (out of 5) need a specific affinity level to reach the true ending and those levels are affinity level 4. Maxing out all affinity means going into battle and guard enemy attacks with a special guard. It takes roughly 1,250 of these special guards to go from affinity level 4 to affinity level 5. Lastly, there's defeating 10,000 Blare. After doing everything else (including 1 billion approval and everyone at affinity level 5) I had a little over 4,500 kills, which meant hours upon hours of farming kills. As for good things about this game: I liked that dungeon exploration powers upgraded throughout the game, which made it possible to explore new parts. My favourite characters are Kyoka and Aria. Yep, that's about it for the good things. #202: Tales of Berseria June 1st 2019 This is my second Tales of game. In this game a disease (Daemonblight) turns humans into daemons, causing them to wreak havoc and kill. Velvet's life takes an unexpected turn and she's out for revenge and doesn't care who or what to use to accomplish that. What I like about the story is that Velvet isn't the usual goodie two-shoes type who wants to help everyone. She only thinks about what helps her own quest for revenge. The main antagonist isn't the usual "destroy/conquer the world" type either. I did find it disappointing that some information about certain characters was locked behind side quests. Even background information about party members and lesser antagonists must be seen through side quests. This is especially annoying since some party members and all the lesser antagonists don't have that much revealed about them when playing the story. The locations are diverse and look beautiful. It ranges from tropical islands to frozen tundras with polar lights, giant canyons to grassy plains with lakes that reflect the sky. The soundtrack is good too and imo the best track is The Way of the Embodied Dragon. This track plays when exploring the final story dungeon and I tried to explore everything in order to listen to it for as long as possible. This game also has its share of grinds, which forced me to do a second playthrough. This put a damper on the fun factor, as I did everything else during the first playthrough. There's the experience grind to reach level 200, the money grind to obtain 20 million gald, playing mini-games to earn a grand total of 200,000 Tales Coins, and getting every title to rank 2. This last one meant farming 25,000 kills, using ultimate attacks 250 times, using a character for 150 battles, using attacks 2,500 times, and evading 400 attacks for each of the 6 characters. All in all, it's a fun game, but the grinds are too much. #203: Fallen Legion Flames of Rebellion June 9 2019 The story is a bit confusing at first, because there are a few events that are revealed later on. In this game players assume the role of Laendur, a general in the Fenumia army. There's a lot of lore to be read in the History section that gives background information about terms and names. The emperor has passed away and his daughter, Cecile, is next in line to inherit the throne. Due to some events Laendur decides to become emperor too and part of the story revolves around his motives and reasons, which even he confesses might not be solely righteous. There's another game (Fallen Legion Sins of the Empire) where players see Cecile's side of the story, meaning most of her motives and events are unknown. At some points during the story Laendur and Cecile cross paths, but 95% of the story is separate. The combat was a lot of fun during the first 1-1.5 playthroughs, but became very repetitive afterwards. Laendur can summon 3 Exemplars (physical embodiment of legendary weapons) to fight for him, while Laendur himself uses magic (healing, revive, offensive, and buffs). He can only equip 3 spells at a time and only use 3 Exemplars in battle. Examplars evolve into a Chaos form and Order form, which greatly boosts their stats and unlocks new passive abilities. From the second playthrough on it's possible to have both a Chaos and an Order form of the same Examplar in the party. During the levels, players need to make choices that permanently affect morale and how events unfold. This is also how optional bosses and levels are unlocked. Some of these unlock new ultimate attacks for Exemplars. #204: Nights of Azure June 23 2019 Somewhere in the 11th century the first Saint defeated the Nightlord (the demon king). Upon the Nightlord's defeat, his blue blood rained all over Ruswal. Anything that came into contact with the blue blood became a fiend. Since the Nightlord is a pure blood demon, he will eventually revive and bring back the Eternal Night. Since then, a Saint is selected every 10 years as a sacrifice to strengthen the seal that holds the demon king. In the game's present day Arnice arrives in Ruswal to guard the next Saint, Lilysse. The game is very easy, in fact I'd say it's way too easy up until the final boss. The final boss can heal itself and seal familiars, but leveling up a bit is more than enough to overcome this. The story is ok as are the characters. Not much is explained about secondary characters, which is a shame. The post-game has two more bosses and the first one is a good challenge. After clearing the main story, the Extra section is unlocked. This enables players to view concept art and listen to soundtracks. I like that each soundtrack has a personal note from the composers. This game also has its share of grinds, such as summoning familiars 1,000 times, defeating 10,000 enemies, and completing 300 side quests. Completing 300 side quests is by far the worst and most pointless grind and I barely reached 100 when completing the main story (and even that was only because I did as many quests as possible). There are only around 30 side quests in the game and these are recycled over and over again. Defeating 10,000 enemies is also very pointless, as there are much faster ways to level up. All in all the grinds reduce the fun factor a lot, since it takes up about a third of the time to plat the game. #205: Nights of Azure 2 Bride of the New Moon August 3 2019 The second game takes place an unspecified amount of years after the first game. After the defeat of the Nightlord, the Moon Queen attempts to become the new ruler of demons and start the Eternal Night and she's very close to achieving it. To slow her down, a Bride of Time is selected and sacrificed. The game's main character (Aluche) is tasked with escorting the new Bride of Time, which is when they're ambushed. This synopsis sounds similar to the first game, but luckily, it's not a copy-paste story. The game has a combination a brand new cast of characters and some old ones. Arnice is only a party member and IMO she's introduced very late in the game and won't even become a party member until the penultimate chapter. Even that is missable. All of the seven party members have their own personal questline that fleshes them out and completing those quests also increases affinity, which in turn unlocks stat boosts, new attacks, and even equipment slots. The Servan system is altered too: instead of being able to create Servans, there's now one of each and they must be collected. Information about the Moon Queen is also revealed over the course of the story, though sometimes it's subtly hinted and its up to the player to connect the dots. This is an improvement over the first game, where the player only got some more information just before the final boss fight. As for the things I didn't like about the game. Well, there's a limited amount of days to complete the first playthrough. During NG+ and beyond the time limit is removed, so that compensates it. However, the biggest grind in the game (obtaining enough ability points to unlock all of Aluche's abilities) is tied to leveling up, which means defeating enemies to obtain blue blood. Each day also has a time limit of 10 minutes, which can be increased to 20 minutes by leveling up. Due to the limited amount of days, it's impossible to reach 20 minutes during the first playthrough. Upon reaching NG+ your level and party member levels are reset to 1 (to enable ability point farming). When clearing the game with the normal ending, players receive an accessory that adds ability points as quest rewards. Even with that + reaching the max level, I still had to do about 25% of the story during the third playthrough to unlock all abilities. This is by far the biggest grind in the game and it could've been mitigated if the developer added ability points as quest rewards from the first playthrough on. Servans have to be collected again during NG+ and their ultimate evolutions don't carry over. I had fun with the game, but the ability point grind was unexpected. Had I know about that before, I could've used all my remaining days during the first playthrough to farm blue blood. #206: Megadimension Neptunia VII August 14 2019 This game exceeded my expectations. I've played the first 3 main games and Cyberdimension Neptunia, so I figured this game was similar. Let me tell you, it's not. The biggest surprise was the soundtrack, which is so much better and epic. My favourite tracks are ABSOLUTE, Will Be Venus, Encounter of Destiny, URANUS, and PROVIDENCE. The story is also a step up: the bad guy girl is much more powerful, so the CPUs need to step up their game too. This is were the NEXT form comes in, which is even more powerful than their HDD form. As for things I didn't like: well, this game has a card collectible that can only be obtained from a special item. 62 of these items are obtained by correctly answering questions, but the rest needs to be farmed from enemies. Oh, and lets not forget that you can only hold 30 at most, because this item also doubles as a healing consumable. Opening it has a chance to award one of the 33 collectible cards, which are divided into 3 rarities: normal, rare, and super rare. Super rare has a chance of 0.1% and the game can give you multiple of the same card. This requires save scumming, lots and lots of save scumming. I got super rare cards 16 times before I had all 4 unique ones. Normally, I tend to stay far away from this lootbox crap, so having it shoved down my throat like this was a huge disappointment. It took almost 7.5 hours of reloading and opening card packs (it took me 23-25 seconds to open all 30 card packs and another ~5 seconds to reload), so this got extremely boring after the first 5 minutes. Then there's the Spelunker dungeon: the second dungeon was very annoying to complete, as I'd sometimes die just by jumping. Eventually, I had to resort to watching a video to get past a section of the third floor where I always died when jumping from one platform to the next one. It turns out you can skip the first platform and immediately jump to the second one without dying, which is something I don't get, but ok. All in all it's a fun game with amazing soundtracks, except for the cards. Whoever came up with the idea to implement this should be fired, as no one in their right mind would enjoy wasting hours reloading the game and mashing the button. #207: Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force August 21 2019 After the disaster that was Omega Quintet, I was very hesitant to try a new series from Compile Heart and Idea Factory. Some people on this site told me this game is nothing like Omega Quintet and after playing, I wholeheartedly agree. The game starts with a brief summary about events from eons ago: the Goddess and the Vile God waged a war that lasted years and at the end they both exhausted all their powers and went into a deep slumber. They created the fairies, which are tied to a weapon (called Furies). These furies can be used to unseal the deities and revive them. People that can wield a Fury are known as Fencers. The game starts with a lazy protagonist who only likes to eat and sleep. After hearing a rumour about a Fury that will grant the wish of whoever can wield it, he tries his luck and succeeds. This sets him on the path to awaken the Goddess and the protagonist reluctantly goes along. At the halfway point of the game, the story goes into one of three routes. Each of the routes is vastly different form one another, though the Goddess route is very similar to the first half of the game, which was a minor disappointment. I consider the Evil Goddess route the true ending, because at the very end some new information is revealed that can be used for a sequel. Besides that very short scene, any of the three routes can be considered the true ending. I liked the fact that certain characters are allies or enemies depending on which route is chosen. The characters are diverse and I like the protagonist's character growth. As for best girl, I'm leaning towards Tiara with Ethel being a close second. After completing a route and starting NG+, unlocked characters can be used at any time, even when playing other routes. There's one soundtrack (Sherman's Theme) that I liked a lot. Even the grinds aren't so bad (you know, for a Compile Heart/IF game). The 5 million gold can be done by defeating a boss during the story. This boss has a ridiculously high defence, so it can't be done during the first playthrough. Defeating it yields 5.75 million gold. The only real grind is defeating 10,000 enemies. After four playthroughs I only had a little over 6,000 kills (and even that was because I defeated every enemy I encountered). Farming the remaining 4,000 kills took around 5-6 hours of constantly fighting enemies. There can only be 6 enemies at most per battle. #208: Shining Resonance Refrain August 27 2019 I had high expectations for this game, because it seemed like a fun JRPG with dragons and music in a fantasy setting where the protagonist goes on an epic quest to save the world. However, after completing it, I have very mixed feelings about the game. I can't help but wonder if my high expectations caused that. The story starts of strong with the synopsis, but becomes a bit mediocre after chapter 4. Luckily, it picks up again near the end. The game has multiple character endings and I was relieved when finding out it's possible to work on all endings simultaneously as the game puts you back before the final boss fight when clearing it. This enables players to choose another character and get their ending (provided you have enough affection). Something I appreciate a lot is that the game has optional epilogues that show what happens when choosing a love interest. These take place after the game's ending. The best thing about the game is definitely the graphics, everything looks very nice. The locations are diverse as are party members and their personalities. Each party member plays different, which adds variety to the combat. The main character can transform into a dragon and I also like how musical instruments are incorporated into special weapons, which can be used for extra buffs or debuffs during battles. These buff/debuff songs are nice to listen to. The soundtrack in the game is ok, it fits the environment and situations, but I wish there was an epic boss battle theme. I did like the dessert theme, which reminded me a lot of the music from The Mummy (the movie with Brendan Fraser). Another thing I appreciate is: the game hardly has any grinds, which is very rare in RPG games. Now as for the things I didn't like. The game has two game modes: Original and Refrain. The difference between those is that in Refrain you have two more party members. I thought Refrain was some kind of enhanced story mode where the two party members (Excella and Jinas) would join at some point during the story. But that doesn't happen. They're both there from the start and you can interact with them and take them with you, but that's it. No explanation as to why/when they join. This is especially disappointing considering Excella is featured prominently on the cover of the Draconic Launch edition and on the image in the XMB menu, which makes her seem like the main heroine. At the final boss fights there's some new information revealed that's meant as a plot twist. I don't mind that, but it's not done properly as the new information was never mentioned or even hinted at before. The final boss just casually mentions that there used to be a group that set things in motion, but the group has never been mentioned before nor is there any explanation that follows about the group, so I'm wondering why he bothered mentioning it now. It doesn't add anything to the story. From chapter 3 on it became necessary to farm levels as enemies' levels are increased by 10 at the start of each chapter. Unfortunately, the amount of exp they yield hardly increases and even decreases when leveling up. Side quests don't yield exp either, which is a shame considering the game likes to recycle quests a lot. Almost all quests don't offer money either, which means most quest don't add anything and are pointless. The game has no fast travel system even though there are resting camps. That means players have to go from the hub area to wherever the main quest tells them to go. There is an item to teleport back to the hub area, but you'll have to manually return to continue the story. The frame rates drop a lot when fighting lots of enemies or when enemies/allies use AoE attacks, which is very annoying as this happens a lot. The bestiary only fills when obtaining the information from enemies (very rare drop) or when using a RNG mechanism at the cost of gold that likes to give duplicates. The game needs more in-depth explanations about the bond mechanic. It only explains what the mechanic is, but doesn't go into detail about the colours of the traits and bonds and what those mean. Something that was missing are endings for secondary characters. I liked the scenes with Primula and Rapple and would've loved to see a conclusion. All in all, the game had a lot of potential, but needed to be polished a lot more. It's a real shame it was released like this as it's very mediocre. There is enough room for a sequel, especially after seeing some of the character endings. If there's ever a sequel, I hope the developer improves the cons while keeping the pros. It was more like a necessity to move. I had no more space in the treasure room so I had to find a bigger one (with also enough space for my pet dragon which guards it ). 8 posts reserved? Going by my math youll need over 640 plats to fill that up Looks like youre set for the next 200 years Well it took my 5 and a half years to earn enough to fill my first post. So the other 7 should be filled in (give or take) 38.5 years I was literally waiting with I aim to please. So are you satisfied? Was it worth the wait? If there's anything I can do to make your vists to my Lair more enjoyable, feel free to ask . Thnx buddy , I also didn't know that. It all depends on how much content you have. I have 86 with quite some text, a backlog, a curently working on and a guides written section. Your checklist doesn't have so much text, so I'm guessing you could probably post quite some plats.
