Very very tedious platinum, even on the PS4. Like I said for the PS3 one, It's not terrible, but nor is any real fun. The missions are always randomized and get very boring, especially when trying to grind out the requirements for the trophies, the character customization is bare bones and one of those does-it-even-make-a-difference cases, game flow and combat, for a game starring ninja turtles who can grind and climb with ease, somehow manages to be clunkier and slower than the game starring a bunch of bulky robot-turned vehicles, and why they didn't go for the old cartoon look is beyond me.

 

Oh well, here's to the next turtles game that I guarantee will get us all excited, but will inevitably disappoint when it actually comes out.

I didn't expect to finish this so fast, but getting the conversation trophy went better than I thought it would. With a guide, it's fairly easy. Without one, it would probably be impossible. There are 100 different conversations, and some of them can only be triggered in a very specific way. If they are interrupted, which can happen rather easily, it won't count. Also, there's no in-game way to keep track of which ones you've heard already. 

 

Complaining aside, I had a lot fun playing this game. Shortly after watching the anime, I somehow found myself already buying the game (no self-control, I know). I'd highly recommend it to anyone who liked the anime, as the game is pretty much a slightly abridged, playable version of the anime. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit rare now though, so good luck finding it for anything less than 60USD or so. I don't have anything else to say so... パンツァーフォー！

If it wasn't for the high road, this might have been the hardest of the 3. As a person who has played the originals quite a lot, I have to say I'm disappointed in how unfinished these games are. Vicarious Visions needed more development time. Most notably the hit boxes are making this game needlessly hard. Despite the shortcomings, I am happy that this remake happened, and I'm looking forward to platinuming more PS1 remakes.

First of all, that's a pretty badass image. I've heard a lot of things about God Eater and wanted to try it for a long time. God Eater Resurrection is a re-re-release and contains the original God Eater, GE Burst, and the Resurrection stories. In this game the world has been overrun by Aragami: monsters that can absorb organic and inorganic materials to evolve. These monsters can only be defeated by destroying their cores, which only God Eaters can do with their special God Arc weapons. Luckily, the story in the game is so much better than the anime. There were more types of enemies than I expected and this was a welcome change over Freedom Wars (though I did miss the thorn from FW  ). Each type has its own weak spots and these can be destroyed for bonus material and to deal extra damage. Sometimes enemies lose the ability to use certain attacks when destroying parts. I also liked the ability to devour Aragami to gain special bullets. The effect of the bullet differs for every variant. My most hated enemy type was the Kongou (monkey-ish enemy) followed closely by Chi-You (bipedal bird). They like to spam spinning and AoE attacks and these are especially devastating at the start of the game. The first real challenging boss was the Dyaus Pita. This enemy is definitely a step up in terms of speed and attack combos. Taking the time to observe and memorize his patterns is definitely required, as mindlessly attacking won't be enough. The next real challenge was Hannibal and its variants Caligula and Blitz Hannibal. The latter has got to be the most agile enemy in the entire game, but luckily it doesn't have as much health as the other Hannibal types. My favourite enemies to fight are Susano'o and Hannibal. I also found it funny that Amaterasu had boobs, seeing how Aragami are supposed to be genderless. That enemy is something I'd expect to see in games like Senran Kagura.

 

The weapon system is nicely done. It's possible to craft and upgrade new weapons, shields, and upgrades. Later on it's possible to add new skills to melee weapons, guns, and shields, giving players the option to select and add skills based on their playstyle. Though the only downside is the skills obtained are completely random. Some skills can also level up a weapon/shield to increase it's attack/defence stats. Some weapons also resemble the Aragami whose materials were used to craft it and some have a nice design. Obtaining materials can be a hassle at times, as it's random which ones you get as a reward. It's also possible to attack specific parts and break them to obtain materials. Besides that, there's also the option to exchange tickets or other materials to get the required ones. The only downside is that tickets are random rewards. Later in the game the Amor Aragami is introduced, this one is a random spawn and will always drop a ticket when defeated. The mission Harvest Festival also spawns gold and platinum tickets as pick ups, I even got a black ticket twice.

 

This game can be played solo, but it's also possible to do it all in co-op, which is more fun. I liked the option to register friends, so their avatars become NPCs. These are generally a lot better than the in-game NPCs, though the free DLC pack adds some strong ones too. I got @Shana Alter's OP avatar and that one was a great help. It definitely speeds up missions, though player avatars can't be used during story missions. Player avatars can have up to 3 different loadouts when used as an NPC and I wish the limit was 4, because I created a loadout for every element. Also this game may be the only one where it's not possible to fully customize the avatar after starting it. I quickly skipped the character creation, thinking I could always do that later, as I like to take my time for that. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned. Turns out I could only change the hairstyle, accessories, and outfits afterwards  . Some things that IMO could be improved are: being able to fully customize the player avatar after starting the game, having more badass outfits, I would've liked the option to start a romance, as there are small cutscenes where the player character spends time with other NPCs, so a romance system could've been added. And this game needs more diversity in areas. There are only 6 or 7 and these are used over and over again.

 

I saved a special mission for the plat screenshot, as the name (Dragon God) seemed very fitting  . All in all this game is very enjoyable and has a very good crafting/upgrading system that seems simple at first, but is a lot more in-depth. Definitely a recommendation for people who like or want to try the monster hunting genre.

I am bumping this up a bit in difficulty from what most people say. As the win three special treasure matches were hard for me. I am not very good at fighting games. I love Tekken since i first played Tekken 2 way back in the arcade. However I do not sink enough time into them to get amazing, so there was a little bit of struggle on that front. Especially anytime i fought Devil Kazumi. Probably lost to her 7 times before beating her in Arcade mode. I love the story, especially the feeling of it all coming full circle in terms of the base line plot. The one off character missions are alright. However the best part is just playing in a lobby with a bunch of friends until someone gets too heated and we move on to something else.

Loved this game back when I played it in 2012 but didn't care about trophies then. Decided to play it again and it's still a great game. Going through it a third time was a little tiresome because of unskippable cutscenes but at least the cutscenes are great to watch. Probably my favourite Suda 51 game.

I started the Vita version in 2016 but it crashed on Episode 4 and corrupted my save. I hadn't backed it up because I just couldn't fathom a TellTale game doing that. Picked up the PS4 version later that year and platted it, then eventually got the motivation to come back and clean this one up too.

 

As much as I enjoyed the story, I really feel TellTale should either give their games gameplay again (a la Sam & Max / Monkey Island) or go full-on visual novel and cut out the stupid QTEs. Ignoring the fact that it's near unplayable on the Vita, especially the action sequences, the lack of meaningful choices and fake gameplay is grating.

 

 

 

For example, at the end of Episode 3 you chase Crane, get shot at by Dee & Dum, walk towards them while becoming a werewolf, attack Dum, then Dee, then fight with Bloody Mary and have to defend against an amputation. Except you can push zero buttons and that all still happens - it tells you to push up to walk but you'll walk anyway. I literally left the Vita running for the last three chapters of episode 5 and didn't once need to push a button. The game warned me that the Crooked Man was swaying the crowd but my continual silence just brought forth others who talked in my place. It didn't matter what I said, the Crooked Man would never succeed. I might as well have been a cardboard cut-out for all my usefulness.

I decided to mix up my backlog a bit instead of doing it in a random order in a randomiser. I decided for a while I want to do it in alphabetical order and this was first game on the list. I was trying to hold it off as long as possible. As I heard it was glitchy etc and crashes a lot. So I decided not to play it at launch. At the beginning of playing this, I thought here we go another 2D game where everything is going to be a pain in the ass but was pleasantly surprised when it actually wasn't. Everything is pretty simple. I'm guessing it's low-ish rarity is from when it first came out on PS plus it was broken so not many people picked it up? Can't complain with a very rare platinum and a easy one at that.

 

There wasn't much of a sound track and your voice actors were your typical bunch so that's a shame, this game could of had some pretty badass music but failed to deliver. There's over 70 collectibles. To be honest, they're not the worst in the world and they all show up on the map AND they have something inside of them that can help you on the journey. Don't worry when you see the guide and you see most things as missable. If you explore everywhere and go through every door it's pretty easy going. Think of it as a 2D God of War but without Kratos and his crazy combos. More as a plain soldier who was chosen for a quest due to some circumstances.

 

I did use the olympian glitch, why not? It's a developer bug right? I guess you could give yourself more of a challenge if you played it on Olympian but that would require 2 playthroughs as it only unlocks after the first playthrough. 1 out of the backlog down. 111 to go. I got this.

I decided to get all the plats for the Sly HD Collection. I already played and platted Thieves in Time, but I’ve never finished the original three games. Overall, it’s a good series, but I think the Sly series is generally inferior to the Jak and Ratchet series. I have the first two games on the PS2, but I don’t remember finishing them. Anyways, it’s the charm and style of the series that shines the most, not the gameplay or writing. The characters are great… even though it took three games for me to like them. The writing is a bit cheesy, but the dialogues are fun. The stories for all three games are average. All of the stories have something to do with getting a bunch of stuff in order to complete a certain something.

 

The first game is good, but it didn’t age too well. Mechanically, it felt similar to Crash. You can only take one hit, but you can use horseshoes (similar to Aku Aku from Crash) to extend your life. Because of this, Sly’s combat felt pretty boring. It was just a matter of who hits first, rather than skills. That being said, it’s still an easy game. The final boss battle was a bit hard though. The platforming is fairly good, particularly because of the level designing. But the controls aren’t always responsive. But the worst part about the game was easily the camera controls. Half of the time I dies was because the camera would mess up whenever I’m making a jump. And I hate how the camera doesn’t turn if there’s an object with a collision detector nearby. This makes moving the camera is crammed spots a nightmare. Overall, it was still a good game. It was short and didn’t overstay its welcome. The plat is really easy as it requires you to open all safes and beat the game.

 

And then came the sequel. Sucker Punch did try to make this a more ambitious Sly game. The game has a more open-world feel to it, the platforming felt more responsive, and there’s a health bar system with enemies being stronger, making things feel better. But the pacing is atrocious. This game is twice as long as the first game, when it didn’t need to be that long. There’s eight episodes and they’re all the same thing. Take photos -> Do fetch quests -> Do more fetch quests the next day -> Do final operation. I got bored of the game by the time I started the third episode. That being said, the last three episodes were actually enjoyable, particularly because of the interesting maps they take place in. I’m surprised that people think Sly 2 is the best in the series, but I guess it wasn’t for me. The camera in this game was even worse and the forced mini-games were more annoying than challenging. It’s annoying that I have to run back to the safehouse to switch characters. That being said, I praise Sucker Punch for trying to expand the formula of the first game into something bigger. They just stretched it out too much. The plat is just as easy as the first game. I ended up collecting all the bottle clues because they’re not hard to find. I feel like I’m sounding too negative about this game when it’s actually pretty good. It just has too many issues that could’ve been easily solved.

 

The third game is easily the best. They improved most of the problems from the second game. The game is a lot short and more varied, thanks to the larger amount of playable characters. The mini-games were actually fun and the camera was more responsive. The story was the worst. Though I’m happy that they didn’t force Clockwerk into the story, the whole recruiting storyline makes it seem like the game’s not trying anymore. And the main villain was a joke too. And I though the Sly 2 main villain was bad. Clockwerk from the first game was top-tier due to good voice acting and buildup. Sly 3’s main villain just feels to random. The plat is a bit harder due to the Challenges. Two of them were a bit hard (the first and last boss battle challenges took a while).

.Enjoyment: one of the best games I have ever played.

 

Whooo sit tight, this one is going to be long. 11 years ago, I saw Final Fantasy XII in the pages of a videogames magazine, I was 13. The game came out far away from my birthday, but my brother's birthday was mighty close so I literally shoehorned the game into his very existence to the point that, out of exhaustion, the poor guy asked for it and thanks to that I got to play it sooner than I expected to. I saw something, right from the start, that made me feel like I had to play it. And predictably so, I was immensely touched by it.

 

Admittedly, my 13-year-old self did not pay a lot of attention to the story because it was politics and I found those terribly boring. I fell in love with the system, the locations, the music, the atmosphere, basically everything minus the game's plot, which I even got to forget with the years.

 

In 2013, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster came out and it was a critical and commercial success. From that point (and possibly even before), my focus was on asking "will Final Fantasy XII come next in the remastering trend?". And so it began: I started to literally beg for a remaster of the game that touched me so much when I was a teenager. I wanted to relive it with the touch of adulthood and maturity I now hold. 

 

I remember the day it was announced. My Twitter friends all knew about my interest in it so they all told me about it but I was teaching, and in the middle of a lesson, I caught a glimpse of it. I literally couldn't contain myself! I smiled and giggled like a kid and my students gave me the odd look, to which I replied that I had simply "received very good news." 

 

From that point on, I blacked myself out of any footage or information until July 11, when I set up on my journey across Ivalice one more time. And it was just as beautiful, charming, mysterious, perilous and diverse as it ever was. On top of that, I now had the chance to enjoy the story and even be moved by some of the themes showcased in it. It is still not the most engaging plot of all time, but it works. 

 

The game is easier than it was on its PS2 release and the speed-ups make it much more accessible too. Trophies are not difficult by any standards and if you rush through it all you can be done rather quickly. I obviously did not, and still the 135 hours I spent in Ivalice felt short. I will come back from time to time, as I feel right at home when I play Final Fantasy XII, and now it looks more gorgeous than ever. 

 

Sorry for the length, this one hits me right on the spot! I am now switching gears from reviving an already tried triumph to jumping into 100% uncharted lands, the lands of NieR! Wish me luck!

Platinum #12 - Mortal Kombat X

What can I say about Mortal Kombat that hasn't been said before? I can proudly admit that it has always been a big part of my early years of gaming! Scorpion was my childhood hero, I even had a costume for Halloween! As for MKX, it's a marvelous tournament fighter and it certainly provides more offline content than Street Fighter 5. You can tell that NetherRealm still cares about their flagship franchise. Obtaining the Platinum is simple but very very time consuming. This is due to the fact that certain Living Towers only appear at specific times and are online generated. There are several online trophies to watch out for, like winning 10 ranked matches in a row. You also have to max out the levels of all 5 factions, which is nothing a little Brutality grinding can't take care of. 1000 hits to the Invasion Boss is also a real pain and only appears at a specific time as well. You'll also need a partner or friend to send you a Challenge Tower to beat. I recommend unlocking the Juggle Modifer before attempting 10 hit combos with all characters, but even that Living Tower appears at a complete random time for it to unlock. Trophies or not, MKX is still a most excellent and solid fighter for this generation! I highly recommend it as a Mortal Kombat fan and fighting game enthusiast!

Murdered: Soul Suspect

 

I previously platted this on PS4 and decided to do it all over again as I spotted it in a sale a while ago. For me, this is a very underrated game and I believe it's a much better game than the mediocre reviews would suggest. I enjoyed the story that it told. I found it pretty gripping. There are negatives of course. There are too many collectibles plus the demon encounters are annoying rather than scary. They ruin the flow of the game and you need to pull off QTE's to defeat them. The graphics on PS3 weren't particularly great either in comparison to PS4. All in all though like I said, a far better game than the reviews would suggest and I was happy to stack the PS3 version.

#177 Patapon Remastered 

 

I played all 3 Patapon on the PSP so I was happy to see the first one coming to PS4 so I could replay it. It's a fun game once you know the timing of the beat and rhythm but there isn't too much replay value after completing the story. Trophies are straightforward except for getting all the Divine weapons which becomes a luck based grind defeating bosses over and over again for a specific item drop. Apparently people are having some trouble with glitched trophies but I didn't have any. I would like to see Patapon 2 and 3 come to PS4 as well, I feel they are much more superior to the first game as they add more weapons, bosses, and patapon types and classes to the game.
