Popular Post Zach
#131 and 100% Borderlands Enjoyment: 8.5/10 Difficulty: 3/10 (4/10 with DLC) Time: 25-30hrs (55-60 including DLC) I was so happy when Gearbox announced the remaster would be coming to the PS4 after 10yrs since it originally released. I was planning to the play it on the PS3, but I have not been playing on the PS3 as much I'd like to be recently. This game was exactly how I remembered. A goofy, fun, looter-shooter. My favorite character is still Brick in this game, but I decided to go with Roland this time because I really liked his character in Borderlands 2. If you played 2 before this game for some reason, don't expect a great, in depth story with this one. I've always looked at this game as test for the coming sequels. With that being said, it's still a very enjoyable game. The DLC is also great, but I will list my two main complaints with the DLC in this game. The Arena DLC's 3 big arenas take around 3 hours a piece and THERE IS NO GOD DAMN FAST TRAVEL IN ANY OF THE DLC. When it comes to fast travel, the zombie and Claptrap DLCs didn't really need it. General Knoxx's DLC however.... really could have benefited from some fast travel due to the big size of the DLC. Anyways, everyone should play this game and the $30 price tag is very appealing and fair in my opinion.
Popular Post Viper
#159 Borderlands: Game of the Year EditionBorderland Defender It was a blast getting to revisit this game. It was always the one I put the least amount of time into and used an exploit on to get to level 50 back in 2012 when I originally played it as (back then) I never really understood the idea of replaying the whole game I just played, just to get to level 50...it seemed so redundant. It took Borderlands 2 to show why it was important. So this time I did it all legit. Still going to finish up Playthrough 2, and still have the DLC to do. Lillith was my main originally, so I decided to go with Roland this time...who honestly was rather boring to use, his Scorpio Turret was rarely much help...kind of wish I chose Mordecai instead, but it's all good. I'm so beyond ready for Borderlands 3 right now though! Edited May 10, 2019 by Viper

Popular Post FluffyAssassin64
#111 - Everybody's Gone to the Rapture "This Pattern is Mine" You got them all. You got them all Finally... my trigger finger is hurting. This wasn't necessarily a 'bad game' - then again, it's not really much of a game (in the traditional sense) at all - but I can honestly say that the frustrations and shortcomings probably outweighed the positives. Having recently played 'Edith Finch', I was a bit disappointed with this. It's much less focused, movement is a chore, and the story - though intriguing - is a bit of a mixed bag IMO. Probably easiest to split this into pros and cons... Pros: Gorgeous environmental design and atmosphere Excellent voice acting Beautiful soundtrack Story (at times) Cons: Extremely tedious walking / movement. I know you can hold down R2 to go faster (hence my sore trigger finger), but when you're trying to explore every inch of the map, this quickly became very frustrating. It's not the pace of the game that's the issue - I enjoy taking my time and exploring - but when I need to walk for 5 minutes to get back to the main path after exploring the outskirts, I sorely wanted a way to move faster. This is much more of an issue here than in a game like Edith Finch (with more contained and focused environments), and my interest regularly waned throughout. There is also very little reward for exploration for the most part. Framerate, screen-tearing and re-used assets. I swear, if I have to go in one more identical house.... Collectibles / trophies (generally) suck. When a trophy says 'wait for...' or 'play with...', I don't expect to wait for 3-5 minutes... at least give me some feedback that I'm doing the right thing? I missed basically all of these on my first playthrough because I thought there was something I was doing wrong. Another trophy LITERALLY tells you to do nothing for 5 minutes... rip me. 'Reading' books requires you to look at them; how do I know I've looked at it? There's no stat tracking, and no way to tell if you missed anything. Yes, I realise you can follow a guide, but considering I missed maybe 10 things on my first (in depth) playthrough, having to collect EVERYTHING again was simply a chore. The story started interesting enough; and kept my interest throughout; for the most part. I liked learning about the individual characters and their fates; and discovering how the disparate stories all intertwine across time was intriguing. The ending though? Hmmmmm.... I understand what they were going for here, but it just didn't do it for me. I don't know about you, but I don't feel like you can justify sacrificing the entire world to satisfy your scientific curiosity and cure your loneliness.... IN MY OPINION, I didn't find many of the main characters particularly likeable. Kate and Stephen were self-centred, selfish idiots (imo), and many of the supporting characters were just as annoying (Wendy being nosy, Jeremy being kind but weak-willed, and Lizzie being unfaithful). Sure, I get that part of the point is how broken human lives and relationships are, and how the light 'rapture' fits into that (no more detail here; spoilers!!!), but apart from maybe Rachel and Frank, I wasn't a bit fan. More? Probably... IMO, this is an example of why people don't like 'Walking Simulator' games... there is a (somewhat) interesting story, some beautiful environments, and a pretty great soundtrack / voice acting work, but overall I can't help but be left feeling like I didn't really do anything. The only interaction you have is to interact with radios, balls of light and maybe doors/gates by pressing a single button, and the rest of your time is spent simply... well, walking around. Again I GET what the game is going for, and I don't think this is the most egregious example of this type of game, but it's by no means the best either. Compare this to something like 'Edith Finch'. The story is more focused, there is variety in gameplay and interaction (with some incredibly creative levels), there are emotional and dark stories, and the whole game can be completed in 2-3 hours; pretty much perfect for this style of game in my opinion. No, it wasn't perfect either, but I feel that Edith is an example of this style done right. Do I still think many people will enjoy this? For sure. Did I enjoy the relaxing exploration of 1980's England? Sure, at times. But that doesn't mean I would recommend this game to many people. There are better options out there, but feel free to give it a go if you enjoy this style of game. Game rating: 5.5/10 Plat difficulty: 1/10 (easy, just tedious as heck)

Popular Post Kristycism
#98 - Mafia III Let the Good Times Roll Enjoyment: 2/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Let's just say I'm glad I didn't pay for this game, and got it free on PS+ (though I did spend on the Season Pass but nvm) because this game was NOT my idea of fun. This game is the perfect example of everything done wrong in an "open world" game. There's little to no content in between story-related missions (which, by the way, are mostly garbage repeats of "go here, kill these guys, go to somewhere else far away, kill other guys, etc") so you're just driving through an annoying-to-navigate map, with an annoying-to-maneuver car for most of your play time. Once you get to your destination, you just shoot some things, then it's back in the car to go through the map, again. And again. And again. There aren't even any collectibles to distract you from what you're doing, so it's literally just going from one thing to the next with big empty spaces between. It's not fun. At all. Plus there was a number of glitches which made progression impossible without restarting the game (thankfully, that's all it ever took, I would not want to go through this crap any more than necessary...), including not being able to talk to NPCs to progress the story, or doing enough damage for the racket only for it to not advance and not be able to talk to the NPC to end it. Also the game crashed any time I drove too fast for too long, or otherwise did things too quickly in an area with a lot of enemies. Also the fact you HAVE to do at least two playthroughs annoys me in games. If people want to do second playthroughs (or more) because they like the game, that's fine, but adding trophies just to encourage a second playthrough is just annoying and unnecessary (yes, I'm aware, trophies are an optional extra, but clearly the devs put those trophies in because they WANTED to convince people to play through this pile of garbage more than once, instead of making the game good enough that people themselves wanted to without any further encouragement). Games like this really make me question my need for 100% completion...but then I can't help myself and go for 100% anyway, because I have some mental problems that probably need some sort of psychological intervention, but whatever. That's an issue for another day. The one saving grace of the game was that some of the characters were decent, and if you took the time to talk to them, etc, they had some decent backstories added, and the overarching story was okay, if a little cliché revenge story. It's just a pity the actual gameplay done it a total disservice and made me glad this thing was finally over when that Plat popped (I have never deleted a game so quickly in my entire life).
Popular Post B1rvine
Fallout 4 Platinum Trophy Did anyone else think the settlements portion of this game was like The Sims: Fallout Edition (ie keeping people happy, giving them enough resources, etc)? Popular Post Deadly_Ha_Ha
#22 - Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Enjoyment 7/10 Difficulty 3/10 I'd played Diablo 3 on release for a while with my friends on PC back in 2012, but then after it came out with the dlc on PS4 I didn't touch it. Then I played Battle Chasers which was somewhat reminiscent of the style of game and it reignited my interest in isometric rpg's like Diablo. Coupled with Path of Exile being (soon then) released on PS4 and I got three of my friends together to get the plat cooperatively. My account is 100% so I went on ahead for the dlc trophies as well but most of my friends sufficed with the plat. On release this game was far less forgiving. That's how I remember it anyway. But this go-around was very, very easy. When you play with four people your experience and gold intake is increased by 30% and I think your drop rates are increased, which meant we were overtooled for the content within the first chapter, and the game never caught back up. I was a Crusader which was new to me as it was included as the game's first dlc. It was a lot of fun and I even took it post-game and put many "unnecessary" hours into grinding Greater Rifts - this game's version of challenge content. The game is broken up between a softcore and a hardcore play through. The thing is, even in hardcore when death is permanent and you need to spend the better part of 6-7 hours grinding rifts to power-level your character to 70 for a trophy, you can just save scum. We did, admittedly, but I never died so I did not need my backup save. It's just to say, the game is easy, and it's made easier by how you can cheese hardcore and just res your character even if they do die. The trophy grind between the base game and the dlc is actually not so bad, though I have a high threshold for grinds (see my playing Dark Cloud 2 currently - it's a nightmare). Individual grindy trophies like 500 bounties for the base game or 500 elites with Command Skeletons for the Necromancer dlc can be done with the right setup without too much of a headache, and otherwise the game's trophies are among the easiest I've gotten on my profile really. Popular Post Desmuria
#181 - Heaven's Vault Platinum Platinum Enjoyment: 8/10 Difficulty: 5/10 On 03/05/2019 at 11:56 PM, Desmuria said: I bought Heaven's Vault, which looks super interesting, so I might start giving that a go. Long story short. I stuck to my word. I did it. Despite the very uninspired platinum name, Heaven's Vault is an absolute hidden gem of a game. It was released on 16 April and I bought it on release day (because PS+ users got it at a reduced price). I can't say I regret that decision in the slightest and I'll tell you why! Heaven's Vault is an exploration game. Not only that, but it has its own unique Ancient language that you can learn and translate as you explore. You play the role of Aliya who is an archaeologist and lives in the centre of the Nebula, on the moon Iox. She is tasked to find Iox University's roboticist, Janniqi Renba, who has mysteriously disappeared. Along with your new robot, Six, you go exploring different moons, uncovering secrets and finding ancient sites and relics along the way. The search for Renba just opens up a massive can of worms for Aliya and Six, as they unravel the mystery of fabled Heaven's Vault. I guarantee that this game won't be for everyone, but if you enjoy point-and-click adventures and like exploring, do yourself a favour and try this game. I managed to complete the game in two full playthroughs and a bit of clean-up at the end (I'll explain why in a sec). The trophies are generally straight-forward, except for a small handful which really got on my nerves. I'd say the hardest trophies to earn are: A Reunion, Enrollment and, the absolute worst, The Gates of Iox. Some of the requirements are so weirdly specific that it can completely screw you over if you make one wrong choice. The game has no manual save slots, which is incredibly annoying because you'll end up like me and have to do a NG+ to do it all again! I would highly recommend you make use of manual back-up saves if you're going to have a conversation with someone that could go drastically wrong. You have to recruit someone for the university for the Enrollment trophy and I managed to mess up the conversation three times before I got it. Don't let any of that put you off, though. This game is beautifully drawn, voice acted and scripted. The story is amazing and keeps you interested throughout. Despite playing the game almost three times in a week, I always found something new that I had missed before and the translations get harder if you NG+ Heaven's Vault is a wonderful game and I can't recommend this enough. HUMBLE BRAG As of posting, I'm the third person to earn the platinum and I'm the fastest achiever. Definitely bound to change, but very happy with my achievement getting this one. Popular Post blu3st4rdust305
Lego Ninjago: Nindroids - PS Vita (#198) "Master of Ninjago!" Enjoyed this variation of the Lego formula. 31 short levels which varied from the usual puzzle-solving point a to point b to vehicle levels, and several boss fights. The repetition came in trying to accomplish the set challenges within each level. These levels were all pretty short, none lasting more than 5 minutes, many can be completed in less than 100 seconds. Being portable made this even more appealing. The number of skills is limited, so you don't spend an unnecessary amount of time swapping between characters. Also, you do not have a side kick to get in your way or get stuck far behind you in the level. The story is more interesting than retreads thru movies, as it allows for actually telling a full story.

Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #266: Assassin's Creed III Remastered Enjoyment: 8/10 Playtime: 50-52 hours (would have made it under 50 if I'd rushed it) I was hyped for a remaster since day one. It's since slipped out of there, but AC3 was in my top three AC games for a while. Connor's still one of my favourite assassins; his melancholic stoicism and uncompromising sense of honor is very Auron-like, and if you don't already know what the A in AK stands for, welp, that's a freebie right there. Remaster's spotty but serviceable. Increased load times are a godsend. Some of the gameplay elements are still pretty glitchy and broken, and the perfect play AI of Fanorona is still some frustrating bullshit. Some of the side missions (looking at you, underground tunnels) are still dull and boring. If you didn't like the original there's nothing that really assuages the game's copious flaws, so you might as well not even think about it. It's still a good Creedin' time for any assassin worth their salt. And since platting all the AC games is one of my trophy hunting goals, another one's in the bag.

Popular Post madbuk
#313 - LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril Going into this, I had heard from multiple sources that it is the worst LEGO game on Vita (and, from some people, the worst LEGO game period). While it's certainly not the best, I do think it trumps LEGO Movie (on Vita) and absolutely trumps LEGO Hobbit (on Vita.) It has the tedious 10 challenge system and, like Movie, is split up into 15 chapters with 3 levels each, and you have to redo levels over and over as various characters... but the levels are all so short in this and unlike Movie, flying characters are abundant so it's easy to fly through levels quickly so the level replays felt a lot faster than they did in Movie. Also this is one of the few LEGO games on Vita where I haven't had my character start running in a single direction without any input, necessitating a reset of the game entirely. In fact, apart from one time where the buttons on the main menu broke, I never had to close and re-open the game for any reason in this one. I'd argue it's perhaps one of the least buggy on Vita. Story was as generic as ever but that's fine. Despite the negative reputation this game has, I enjoyed my time with it and thought it was worth the play, even though there are better Vita LEGO games available. Only 2 left (Jurassic World and Star Wars) until I'm done with the Vita ones entirely, which is a shame as I appreciate their simplicity compared to the console versions that have large open worlds filled with fairly tedious things to do.

AK-1138
Platinum #267: WWE 2K18 Enjoyability: 6.7/10 Playtime: Who knows, probably some 100+ hours over the course of a year and a week Welp, this is one of the big ones, folks ? The grind and the online stuff was giving me flop sweats to the point I all but forced myself to mark it down as a loss about a year ago. However, the impending server shutdown spurred me into action out of nowhere. Turns out, I am actually pretty good at the online graps! I'd say I won four out of every six matches, and it probably would've been even more if I hadn't stopped caring about wins and losses after I got the trophy for a 100 wins. After that I played for the love of it, racking up five star matches regardless of the end result. Amazing considering it was nearly impossible to get a match without some kind of connection issue. Anyways, despite a boring, grindy career mode, this kind of got me back into modern wrestling games again, which I had mostly quit after SvR2010. Once you get into it, the new system is pretty satisfying once you learn how to maximize it. I'm already concurrently working on 2K19 (the AJ Tower will be my next big gaming stumbling block) and chances are I'll get 2K20 day one as well! 2K is slowly but surely getting better at making wrestling games. One day they might have something worthy of getting in the top ten. Here's hoping. ...And you know, I didn't just decide to plat it on any random day; as we speak, I'm on my way to see my first (and possibly last, depending on if they ever head to my neck of the woods again!) ever WWE live event! It'll no doubt be an experience regardless of what the card's like! Wish me luck, guys!
