Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #475: Difficulty: 2.5/10 Playtime: 30 minutes to an hour Enjoyment: 7/10 That's right, it's the sequel to Random Interchangeable Ratalaika Port #748... and it's actually pretty good? What?!? Just the fact I've deigned to comment on it here when I usually forego such a practice for its EZPZ ilk should tell you something right there. Is it a masterpiece? Lolno, but in terms of improving upon the original in a myriad ways when it really had no need to, it deserves some credit. They might as well have called this Super FoxyLand World as it takes some inspiration from that SNES Mario classic, including a traversable world map with secret levels. Another fun gameplay addition are Foxy Coins which are hidden all over the place, whose clever hiding spots are indicated by weird wall etchings that look like a wrench and some weird plant. Don't ask me, dude. And lastly, there are some fun NPC interactions some classic old-school crappily translated dialogue serving as an act breaker now and again. It's marginally more challenging than its predecessor, mostly because you're a one hit point wonder this time around. Although levels are about as "long" as they ever were, you're really gonna be grateful for those checkpoints now and again. Moreover, just breezing through the levels isn't going to get you all that far, as collecting coins is a requirement for progressing. The jumping physics still aren't my cup of tea, but they feel slightly better. Jumping off ladders is still the full and complete ass, though. It's pretty much all unoriginal and derivative stuff, of course, but the tropes employed are considered classics for a reason. As a game, I wouldn't recommend this over pretty much any of its legion of "influences", but this is probably as much fun as I've had playing a Ratalaika Game. And sometimes, that's just about good enough. Small victories, and all that malarkey.
Popular Post Dokusha
#110: Okami HD What a beautiful, beautiful game this is. It brims with creativity and colour, it's a true feast for the eyes, and barring some mild frustrations here and there, it also plays like a dream. I'm so glad Capcom re-re-released this true classic for PS4, finally allowing me to give it the time it deserves. You play as an avatar of the Shinto Sun Goddess Amaterasu, who has manifested in the form of a white wolf. The people of ancient, mythological Nippon are plagued by demons, and a curse spread by the vile eight-headed serpent Orochi chokes the land. Although there is a well known legend of a white wolf defeating Orochi 100 years ago, the people nowadays have all but given up on the gods, not even recognising Amaterasu for who she is any more. It's up to you, and your sprite companion Issun, to work miracles, to restore Nippon's natural beauty, to slay demons, and to defeat the darkness so that the people can live their lives in splendour once more. There's something endlessly satisfying about using Amaterasu's divine powers to rejuvenate withered landscapes. Even if the game didn't feature a satisfying (if perhaps not as intricate as you'd expect from a Clover Studios game) combat system, I would've had lots of fun merely exploring dungeons and healing the land. It's also hard to understate just how important Okami's famous art style is: I genuinely believe the game wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable had it sported generic PS2-era graphics instead of the wonderful style inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e woodcuts and watercolour paintings. If ever there was a game to prove that graphics do matter, it would be this one. Whilst I have no reservations calling Okami a classic, that's not to say it's flawless. My biggest gripe comes with the aforementioned sprite companion Issun. Put simply, the little bugger is grating. He consistently gives everyone rude nicknames (calling Amaterasu "furball", the dread Orochi is "serpent-breath", and so on), is incapable of addressing female characters without constant come-ons ("cutie", "sweetie", "babe", "don't you worry your pretty little head over it, honey", even frequently using "busty babe" to a girl's face multiple times), and since he is based on the infamous fairy companions that tend to speak for Link in the Zelda games, he also frequently explains very simple game mechanics to you over and over and over again. I understand the writers tried to give him a distinct personality instead of simply having him screech "HEY! LISTEN!" for 50 hours, but I personally could've done with less of the annoying bug's chattering. It's not enough to ruin the game by any means, but I'd be lying if I said he didn't annoy me. The trophy list is in line with most lists for Capcom remasters: you effectively have to do everything, and do it in the best way possible. So don't just expect the standard completionist tasks like finding all collectibles and maxing out your abilities. At the end of the game, you'll also be ranked based on the amount of deaths you've suffered, the quantity of demons you've slain, the total sum of yen you've accumulated, the Praise (EXP) you've earned, and the number of Demon Fangs (special currency) you've wrested from demons. I wouldn't say it's extremely difficult, but it certainly requires some effort. Now all that's left for me to do is to let loose one of Amaterasu's signature Victory Howls!

Popular Post PooPooBlast
#130 Steins;Gate 0 So this game is a prequel/sequel to the original SG in a weird way due to all of the time travel elements associated with it. It starts out in the beta wordline from SG 1 where Okabe has failed his "mission" and has given-up. As a person who went in blind; at first, the game seems like it's exploring a "what-if" narrative with a PTSD-ridden Okabe but then you slowly realize that this wasn't the case.. I won't spoil it because it proved all of my assumptions and biases incorrect, leaving me quite impressed with how it tied back to the events of SG 1. A few manly tears were slightly shed as well so that's a win in the story department in my book. Well done game . Anyway, praises aside, there were a few negatives that are worth mentioning. There's a lot of filler early on which didn't feel like it was advancing the plot that much. I stuck through with it though because I remembered that SG 1 also had a slow start (although not as slow..). Some of the endings (more on that below) were quite confusing especially the true ending and I had to read up online more about them to wrap my head around it. I don't recall having much trouble understanding SG 1 that much so a few points were docked off here. However, once I did understand, I was able to look back and appreciate the story told in this game. Regarding the endings (no spoilers except in the spoiler tag): 1) Maho's ending: Maho's ending was just really terrible and unsatisfying. The only redeeming factor was seeing a different side to Kiryu Moeka (Shining finger!). Given that it was my first ending, it left a sour taste in my mouth and gave me a false premonition in terms of what to expect going forward but thankfully, the rest of the endings were much better than that. I wont spoil it of course. 2) Kagari's ending: It was better than the previous ending and I liked how it unravelled the mystery behind this Kagari person. However, as expected it didn't really tie up all the loose ends you'd expect from a true ending so I marched on. 3) I'll mark this as spoiler just in case.. Spoiler Kurisu's ending I put this as a spoiler because many people I've talked to didn't even know that Kurisu will be involved in this game after the events of SG 1 so I put that here to let them find out by themselves. It was decent enough in that it showed a glimmer of hope from all the depressing crap PTSD Okabe was going through and how Okabe is going to slap some sense into himself in 2010 and reach the door to Steins Gate. But of course.. to the true ending we must carry on.. 4) Gehenna's Stigma: If you are an evil, psychopath who loves to see the world plunge into Chaos, then this ending is for you . It was incredibly dark and it gave me the chills man. Also, the way you'd trigger this ending I thought was brilliantly subtle given that Spoiler it punished you for answering Amadeus Kurisu's calls and still treating her like she's a living entity, talking to her whenever you get the chance as opposed to fixing the world line where the real Kurisu can exist. 5) Vega and Altair/ 6) Milky-Way Crossing (true ending) The vega and altair ending leads to the milky-way crossing only if you've triggered certain events. I liked the climax of this game. The denouement however, all the way to the ending left me really confused and a lot of the events happened too quickly and too soon before the credits just suddenly rolled. I had to scour online forums to explain this one because they left out a couple of details that were actually explained in the anime.. Only then, did I feel satisfied and more appreciative of what just happened. Finally, I would like to share my favourite Osts that plays in the game. They were pretty awesome. Spoiler The main menu track. It has quite a sad undertone with a glimmer of hope mixed in-between which tied really well with the theme of the game This one is so very sci-fi-ey and I believe it plays when pretty much everyone is deep in thought about something. Very mysterious. Maho's theme, hence the title newcomer. One of my personal favourites when you're deep in thought. And yea... Overall, I had a blast reading this VN which took 36 hours to complete by the way. I'd rate it just below SG 1 but it was pretty damn good considering the extra layers it added to the original game. If you're a fan of the first game, then this should be a no-brainer! Onto the next game! Edited January 25, 2020 by PooPooBlast
Popular Post Atoya
#32. Wolfenstein: the new order Wolfenstein master this game was very good, it’s a lot better than old blood but I was disappointed when they didn’t have the challenges like old blood which made the platinum so much easier gameplay wise it’s the same as old blood but the missions are more fun because your not in the same area like old blood, you travel to different places which is a good thing. at the end if you haven’t played wolfenstein games, you are missing a lot of fun, this was an awesome series I can’t wait to play wolfenstein 2 after I finish some of my games. thanks to my friend @Wolfy who told me about wolfenstein. Popular Post snakebit10
#296 We Always Had Faith In You This is another excellent entry in the Far Cry series. I don't think I can get bored of these games. I was interested mostly because of the Cult theme and religious themes in the game. The Seed family are great antagonist for the game. The father Joseph is a great main antagonist. I would put him before Pagan Min but not above Vaas from FC3. The gameplay is mostly the same except for some minor changes. Gone are the towers you have to activate the map for that area. The skill tree is gone and now is under perks. You have use of Guns for hire. There are different ones you can use that have different abilities. I mostly stuck with Hurk and Jess Black. If you have enjoyed Far Cry games in the past than 5 is a worth pick up. I will get to New Dawn later this year. Fun 8/10 Difficulty 3/10 I knocked a couple points off of the fun factor for the MP trophies. Far Cry should stick to SP and Co-op. Popular Post Reaperberri
#3: The Crew 2 My third plat, The Crew 2. In my opinion, it is a great game. There is a ton of content - races, vehicles (cars, bikes, planes, boats, etc.), you will always find things to do. The developers are still actively updating the game. Just now, there are some new lunar year events going on. Really recommend it to anyone who likes arcade racing, and open world games.

Popular Post ZachBoardyHD
Platinum 90: CONTROL Usually I like to discuss the game and what a I liked about it but it was such a meh experience with bland gameplay I thought to do them in bullet points instead ? PROS .When the game was working properly it were a beauty to look at .The story itself did have some good moments but just only some .The detail/lighting in the environment was incredible as everything had its own shadows and some relective furniture would actually reflect the lighting from them, also nearly everything can be interacted with, with your powers CONS .When the game wasn't working properly it were a nightmare to deal with especially when the frames would drop constantly leaving you struggling to where to go and dying in combat due to the constant drop in frame rates (People's defence is if it's not being played on a pro and a standard PS4, what do we expect?) Well it's a PS4 game to be played on the PS4 as it doesn't and shouldn't mater if it were on a PS4 PRO or not) .The story at times felt like it were full of itself and too ambitious, you would only get fed a little bit here and there about what were happening and that's it (granted, there are collectibles that expands on the story but with the game being short, they could have least done some extra cutscenes and missions) .The emeny types felt 'samey' (those flying ones can just do one) ? .The weapon mods were lackluster and didn't do much to make your weapons powerful or like they were upgradin your current mod .The map was really hard to navigate around so for a good hour or so I were wondering where to he'll to go .The side mssions really just felt like padding to me that it didn't even seem to matter what you were doing .The ending (I WON'T spoil anything) but it just ends with no satisfactory conclusion (I suspect this is where the DLCs comes into play) I may sound harsh on the game, but when first going in I felt excited to play it as it had the mystery and the horror to it at the beginning but then it just turned into a mediocre shooting game, fighting the same enemies over and over while going from point A to B and having some Star Wars like powers. Overall a disappointing game unfortunately as it did have so much potential. Popular Post StraightVege
The Bright Lord Middle-earth has been saved. For now... #223 - Middle-earth: Shadow of War Being patient pays off as usual, because this would have been an intolerable grind before the greedy microtransactions were removed, and game systems were altered to account for the change. It definitely suffers from Ubisoft syndrome: repetitive open world busywork, climbable lookout towers, dull and disjointed story missions, clunky controls, and the first quarter of the game is basically a glorified tutorial which denies the player agency. It's a formula that grew stale many years ago, but what held my interest is the very impressive Nemesis System, which has been expanded upon since the first outing. The sheer number of different orc types, personalities, and voice lines is staggering—you'll rarely encounter the same orc twice. I never got tired of manipulating them, and it's so amusing when an orc you thought you killed repeatedly returns to stalk you, looking ever more pitiful each time. The deranged orcs are just hilarious, too ("lumpy bumpy lumps!"). I can't imagine the amount of work that's gone into making this component so robust. The overarching goal of the game is to build an army by dominating the orcs' minds, then using them to assault the stronghold in each area. Unfortunately, this new fort capture/defend mechanic isn't nearly as epic as the trailers made it appear. These disorganized battles boil down to brief and frantic disarray, where the goal is to stand in a few crowded "king of the hill" style highlighted areas until they're captured, then fight an orc boss. The controls can really falter when there's so many orcs packed into one place, and there's nothing particularly challenging or fun about the whole mess. A boring letdown, but thankfully, the number of fortress defense missions required to achieve the true ending has been drastically reduced in the current version. I certainly had a good share of enjoyment in the Middle-earth titles; Nemesis is amazing, and some of the combat moves—such as Shadow Strike, a teleportation attack which can be used to travel vast distances—are both a blast to use and visually spectacular. At this point, however, it's already feeling like yet another tired open world series. I'm just looking forward to Monolith's new sci-fi IP now, as I expect it will also feature Nemesis. Popular Post Justin__Harris
Platinum #69: Resident Evil 2 (PS4) Game Score: 9/10 Platinum Difficulty: 6/10 It took me way too long to finish completing Resident Evil 2. This game, as most of you already know was pretty spectacular. I grew up on the originals, so there's a lot of nostalgia and love I have for this. I'm super stoked they're remaking RE3 so now we can trophy hunt proper all the entries of the series. The game was great, but I gotta say that I've always been a bit turned off by the number of times you have to do playthroughs, speedruns, use certain conditions. I think that's honestly what kept me from finishing it was just the grind of not wanting to do another run of the game when I have so many others I can be playing. The rewards of the game are well worth the subsequent playthroughs however, so at least there's that. After taking a break and coming back to it, there was some revitalized energy in taking on the other rounds. I had a blast playing this and I can say it's worth checking out if you have not already.
