Popular Post MrGarland
Platinum #108 Difficulty: 5/10 (3/10 after getting the necessary gear) Playtime: 92 hours Enjoyment: 8/10 I bought my PS3 back in October 2011. One of the first few games that I bought for that console, besides the Uncharted trilogy, was Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (after it was released). I've had some knowledge about the series a few years back. I also played Metal Gear Solid before I hopped into the HD Collection, so I was good to go. While I platinumed Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 back in 2013, I never bothered doing the same for Peace Walker. The reason? I suppose I could say it was the gameplay, which is different when compared to the other two. It has some things similar to Metal Gear Solid 4, but it still stands as its own game. The thing that makes this game different from the other two is the Mother Base. As you recruit soldiers during missions and progress through the game, you expand it. Not only that, but you can also develop many different kinds of weapons and items, which will help you out. I have to say, this was a cool idea. Researching certain items takes a while, but the effort is worth it. Before I discuss the game any further, I have to point out a couple of things. These are just my opinions, but surely some of you would agree about what's said below. - The enemy AI. For example, whenever you're seen, but not discovered by the enemy, he will sometimes come take a look. What I don't understand is why he has to walk slowly instead of running. Compared to the other games, the guard moves faster. In short, this one has the worst AI. - Aiming while lying down is no longer possible. Why remove something that you can do in other games? There are times when you have to use a sniper rifle and I usually prefer to aim while lying down, because that's how snipers usually aim, right? At least you can aim while crouched, but... - Vehicle missions. In these, each type of vehicle has an additional fuel tank attached to somewhere of the vehicle that, when destroyed, stops it from moving for a while. What really doesn't make any sense is that it takes so many bullets before it explodes. Shooting it with missiles won't make a difference. I get that the game is fiction, but have some sense of realism. - Besides the Life meter, you also have the Psyche meter. If the latter one ever runs out, you're f***ed. What happens is that you get stunned and you have to shake the left stick which takes forever. It's faster to just restart since you are going to get killed anyway. With all that said, I'll do my usual way of covering my journey to platinum. Starting with the Main Ops. Spoiler - Torture Chamber Escape: I already mentioned this once, but I'll say again. This part is terrible. Surviving three rounds was a major pain. Metal Gear Solid 2 also had that, but it's nowhere as bad. Still, my playthrough on Extreme almost made me buy a turbo controller, but somehow got past that without it. Little did I know it wouldn't be the only game with that. After failing a few times, I looked from the internet if there was another way to get past it. Besides the turbo controller, you can (probably) pass it if you wrap your thumb with a shirt and slide the button back and forth quickly. I tried it, but it didn't work. Only once I got close to the end, but died. As a result, I had to buy a turbo controller. With that, it's nothing. At least the escape from the facility is easy. - Zadornov Search Missions: These were easily the most boring missions of the game. You need to do these a total of 6 times, plus once more to trigger the final boss battle. Each time Zadornov escapes, you have to locate him and capture him again. Also, on some of them, his location is randomized. If you replay the mission, that is. Luckily, the location changes only once. The only reason I'm saying that is because when I had to replay at least one of them, his location was different from the first time and I had to look from a video. The only thing I like about these missions are dialogues between Snake and Kaz. Snake's quotes were pretty funny at times. - Metal Gear Zeke Battle: The final boss of the game, but I won't spoil who pilots it. That said, the character really takes a different turn, when it comes to personality. From calm to crazy. Also, the character really likes saying "Soon you will witness true Hell" and says that a lot. Besides the Main Ops, there's also side missions known as Extra Ops. They're much like the VR missions, with a variety of different objectives. Some examples include target practice, holding up all enemies and so on. It does have unique ones such as Extra Ops 56 (where you only have one bullet to take out all the enemies) and even Monster Hunter-themed ones which is cool. There are a couple of things I don't like about these missions. The first is that there are way too many vehicle missions. A grand total of 43. Second, unlocking many of them is messed up. While it does make sense that some of them are unlocked as you progress the story, some of them are unlocked by completing certain vehicle missions. This means that you have to half-ass your way through these since you don't have the necessary gear required for the S rank. Only a handful of those are possible with low-leveled gear, but not too many. Like Main Ops, I'm going to cover some of them. - Hold Up missions: These missions were more or less annoying in MGS2, but here, they're actually fun. With Sneaking Suit, these missions are very easy, as the enemies won't hear your footsteps. Also, the weapon you have in these missions is by far the most ridiculous. What you have is... a banana. Yeah. - Vehicle missions: Like I said, they really got carried away with these. With the best gear, they're easy, but you still have to be careful, as some of the vehicles are armed with strong weapons which can get you killed quickly if you're not careful. Anyway, when going for S rank, you have to repeat the same strategy which is not too bad. My strategy (and probably everyone else's) is to run and shoot all the soldiers with Carl Gustav (Fulton Recovery), then going after the vehicle. Depending on what type of vehicle you're facing, the leader comes out more or less quicker. The tanks are the worst, as you have to damage them until they're almost destroyed. As far as I know, there's no other way. Also, I find the chopper battles amusing. Every time you take out its pilot (regardless if you defeat him lethally or not), he somehow manages to land it safely. - Chrysalis Type 2 and Custom: The first battle is easy. Just throw a chaff grenade and it gets stunned. Quickly fire the M47 and it loses a lot of health. Repeat this a few times, and it's over. Sadly, you can't do the same for the second battle. Instead, you have to take your time and shoot when you get a chance. Also, its missiles hit very hard and I honestly couldn't find the best timing to avoid them. At least there are a couple of places where you can hide so they can't hit you. - Cocoon (all battles): The easiest boss in the game, due to its huge size and how easily its attacks can be avoided. No need to bring the best gear for this, as the S rank is easy to get. Unless you plan to speedrun or something. Also, its overall design reminds me of Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte. Perhaps Kojima got inspired by that when this boss was designed? Who knows. - Peace Walker Custom: The worst boss in the game. It wouldn't be so bad if you had the bandana. The thing is, this mission gives you that, but only if you get the S rank. This means that you have to do things the hard way, and this battle certainly took a while. I don't know what the time requirement for that rank is, but it must be at least 20 minutes. I spent almost that much time in this battle, but still got the S rank. - Monster Hunter missions: I've already covered these in another thread so I won't repeat much about what I've said. But like I've said before, these were easily the best missions of the game. With the right strategy, they're also easy enough. Another feature in the game is the Outer Ops. This one is hard for me to explain, so I'll put it this way. It's more or less like playing chess. You deploy your units, and see if you're victorious. Starts easy, but it gets tougher the more you complete them. They're also quick, but like with Extra Ops, there are just too many of them. The final mission was surprisingly easy, though it was a very close call, as two of my soldiers had their health on critical. Still, I won on my first try and I didn't lose a single soldier. The last thing I have to mention is the multiplayer. As I only played it for a while when getting those trophies, I don't know how active it has been since the game was first released. Nowadays, it's dead so finding a boosting partner is a must. Luckily, getting the trophies won't take too long. Also, the more people in a match, the faster it will be. As for the multiplayer, there's not much to say. With only 4 game modes, it's nothing too special, other than playing it Metal Gear-style. And that's all I have to say about this one. Overall, it was a pretty good game, though I must say that I enjoyed the other two more. At least the HD Collection is finally complete, something that I thought would never happen. For the record, I am not going to 100% Peace Walker. Completing missions is enough for me. While I did develop all the items, I left a few weapons undeveloped. I'm also not going to collect all the insignias and ranks, as it would take me time and some of the insignias are online-themed. Speaking of ranks, despite that I worked hard, I only got two of them. I'm a little disappointed, to be honest, but whatever. I also might as well say if I'm going to play Metal Gear Solid V. I have planned to do so, but if that ever happens is unknown at the moment. We'll see what happens. Edited April 2, 2021 by MrGarland

Popular Post BlitzkriegHottie
PRAISE THE GUN! Remnant: From the Ashes From the Ashes Very interesting take on the beloved soulsborne formula, that despite being a good game overall, falls short on several important aspects. This is a "what could have been?" scenario for sure, and it's quite frustrating to see it never reaching its true potential. That paired with a plethora of technical issues (like the constant lag, even when playing in offline mode) make this a good, albeit somewhat disappointing entry in the crowded soulslike "genre". One of my biggest issues are the boss fights, they just revolve around dealing some damage to the boss until they start spamming trash mobs non-stop. It makes me think the developers truly hate solo players like me. I definitelly recommend getting one buddy to help you out, and I don't mean this because of difficulty, I mean this because it will definitely make dealing with all of the spam far less annoying. Trophy wise, it was a nightmare for me. Most of the trophies were very easy but 2 came close to making me ragequit: "Precious" and "Not so Lucky". Fucking fitting trophy title, eh?. Since the whole game is randomized, getting these two items was a neverending nightmare for me, I was just not having any luck. I dedicated an entire day just re-rolling the campaign / adventure mode and nothing, not even one of them. It probably took me 18 hours just to get these luck based trophies and it definitelly made me hate the whole randomized nature of the game. Game rating: 7/10 Platinum Difficulty: 5/10 Time to platinum: 40 hours (greatly luck dependant) Also completed the Subject 2923 DLC and it definitely is a meaty expansion, well worth your money, and the final DLC boss was quite the amazing boss fight. The best one in the game by far. Not interested in the other DLC, it seems to be just a challenge mode. Subject 2923 DLC rating: 7/10 100% Difficulty: 5/10 Time to 100%: 10-15 hours GIMME MOAR SOULSLIKES!

Popular Post AJ_Radio
Platinum #270: Middle Earth: Shadow of War (March 19th, 2021) Difficulty: 3/10 Excitement Rating: 8/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 27 - 30 Hours Hardest Trophy: Such Great Heights ( Reach the rank of Captain in Online Conquest ) An eagerly awaited sequel to Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor that was met with criticism regarding the lootbox controversy. Thankfully, lootboxes were patched out completely. Overall an enjoyable game from Monolith Productions. Talion and Celebrimbor join together to put a stop to the Dark Lord (Sauron) by forging a New Ring. New faces and enemies await, with several changes to the Nemesis system and several new areas to explore and exploit the poor Uruks. Like in the previous game, the power to control and bend the will of the Uruks for you to command is too good to pass up. There is a lot of backstabbing and battles to be initiated, this time around there are overlords who are the leaders of strongholds, which require Uruk Captains and a bit of preparation to take down. Nothing too difficult. I felt I messed up Online Conquests as I did them fairly early on, but I had an attack force with a decent level (over 400) and by having good defenses I was able to reach the rank of Captain. Story wise it was a bit all over the place. It starts off strong then sort of falters as you basically take control of several fortresses. A little spoiler alert, an important event in the story happens at the end of Act III, leaving Talion to fend for himself. Act IV is the Shadow Wars, which was formally a time consuming affair involving many battles at the strongholds. Recent updates made the grind significantly less as I only need to defend my strongholds about 4 - 6 times. Base game was good. Neither DLC pack was anything too special. If you can grab this at a discount, I definitely recommend picking this up. Platinum #271: Blizzard Arcade Collection (March 20th, 2021) Difficulty: 1.5/10 Excitement Rating: 7/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 2 Hours Hardest Trophy: A collection of three arcade games from Blizzard Entertainment's earliest days as a gaming company. One of my earliest memories as a kid growing up in the 1990s was playing The Lost Vikings on my cousin's Super Nintendo. You can argue this was the inspiration for more modern puzzle based platformers like Trine. I was never able to beat The Lost Vikings, as the puzzles were too difficult for my young mind to comprehend. Blackthorne I played a little here and there, which takes inspiration from a game that predated it called Flashback. Rock n Roll Racing was entirely new to me, and for what the game was worth it must of been enjoyable way back in the day. There is a bit of nostalgia attached to each game, but I doubt too many people will bother with this collection unless they grew up in the 1980s/1990s. There are several versions; a Definitive Edition, a Super Nintendo (SNES) version and a Sega Genesis/Megadrive (GEN/MD) version. The trophy list is quite frankly a joke, as you can just watch full gameplay, cut to a section where you can unlock a trophy, and you're done. So this definitely is something the 'trophy whores' can pick up. I wish you had to beat the games from the start, but oh well. Only the Rookie and Veteran circuits in Rock n Roll Racing present any difficulty at all. For $19.99, it is a bit steep. For retro game lovers, this collection is fairly good. Platinum #272: Air Race Speed (March 21st, 2021) Difficulty: 2/10 Excitement Rating: 6/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 10 Hours Hardest Trophy: The Neverending Story ( Pass at least 20 stages of any endless level ) A low budget, fairly okay game for the PS Vita. Not too much to say on this one. The only real objective here is flying through ring checkpoints and laps. There are no AI opponents, no online, no ship customization, no real variety. There are several tracks that you can earn Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on how fast you finished. Some tracks will be impossible to get Gold until you unlock faster and better ships later on. Most of the trophy list is grinding, such as crashing 1000 times, flying 2500 miles and playing the game for 10 hours. It's a rather dull list, and the fast paced nature of the game got boring after a while. For under $5.00 it's a quite alright little game, but one I can't recommend unless you're looking for a quick and easy racing game for the Vita handheld. Platinum #273: Ducati - 90th Anniversary (March 27th, 2021) Difficulty: 3/10 Excitement Rating: 4/10 Estimated Time to Platinum: 16 - 18 Hours Hardest Trophy: The Champion ( Reach at least the third place in all the events in the Historic Tour mode ) Another low budget racing game. While Ducati has its moments, it ultimately turned out to be a slogfest. This was basically Ride, but without the Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki or BMX bikes or any other bike manufacturer. Ducati are the only bikes in this game. So already this was stripped down, likely as a cash grab since the Ride games from what I've seen have far more to offer. The game itself is boring. There are no less than over 100 races in Historic Tour Mode, problem is you're racing the same 5 - 6 tracks over and over and over. Early on you unlock 1970s - 2010s era Ducati bikes, with the modern bikes having far more power and speed. The tidbits of history surrounding each bike is nice, but as someone who isn't familiar with Ducati I found it rather dull. Online trophies seemed to be glitched. I spent over three hours with a boosting partner but realized that finishing in a Public Race with AI opponents doesn't count if any AI finish ahead of you. You can't just finish the races and expect them to count, you have to beat out each AI opponent and either finish 1st or have your boosting partner finish 1st. Thankfully the AI is a joke on Very Easy difficulty, but wasting over a hour doing races that didn't count was a little frustrating, because the online mode for this game is practically a ghost town. You have five race types; normal races, championships (which are three races in one except for the final championship), head-to-head, overtaking, and time trials. Everything but the trials are easy. The trials in contrast are far harder than anything else in the game due to their strict time limits for finishing a lap. Good knowledge of the tracks and effectively going fast around corners is required. Cutting corners by going into the grass or sand incurs a penalty which affects your time. Scoring a Gold in these trials is difficult and requires a good modicum of skill and lots of retries. But since you only have to get third place or better in all events in Historic Tour Mode, I was happy with a Bronze. In conclusion, boring game, too monotone, not nearly enough variety. Ducati - 90th Anniversary was one of several games up for sale in the Mega March sale, I guess the under $2.00 I paid for it speaks for itself. If you're a huge racing fan, you might enjoy this game. If not, definitely skip it. Edited April 2, 2021 by AJ_Radio
