Popular Post JoaLoft
#273 - Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel's Avengers screwed up last year. And Eidos Montréal made up for it in spades in 2021, with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. In this standalone adventure - not linked canonically to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the Guardians face a new adversary. Everything starts off rather innocent and low-key with our group of antiheroes entering a prohibited zone in space to acquire a rare illegal creature to make some extra cash. But it is never that simple: things go awry and before they know it, they end up in deep trouble, which cascades into catastrophic events. As the guardians of the galaxy, it is up to them to rectify everything and stop impending doom from destroying the entire universe. I'll keep this short and to the point: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best games of the entire year. And that has nothing to do with a lack of big blockbuster hits, it is genuinely a great game. Early signs were already pointing in that direction when the developers revealed that there would be no multiplayer mode, DLC or any microtransactions to speak of. A fantastic design decision which led to more development time for the story portion of the game and prevented an Avengers meltdown. Because the multiplayer addition and endgame garbage is exactly what turned Avengers from a mediocre game (with a decent campaign) into *the* video game disappointment of 2020. The soul, wit and humor have remained intact, the voice acting is top-notch, the writing is exactly along the lines of what you'd expect of a Guardians entry, there is plenty of licensed music classics present, the visuals look really great and it is a long game! You'll get to play an engrossing story campaign which lasts anywhere between 15-20 hours, depending on how much you explore in all the available chapters. There is constant banter going on between the characters, which provides so much flavor during the adventure. Simply put, this could have been a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and that is already a well-deserved compliment, considering I find the Guardians movies the best Marvel films by far. The only thing that could use some more improvement in a next installment? The combat. It is by no means bad or mediocre, but some of the battles - especially the later ones - could feel a bit repetitive. For a first game, however, the combat in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy provides solid foundations to build upon for a more fleshed-out combat system in a potential sequel. And you don't need to watch the movies to understand the game's story, seeing as how this story leans much closer to thee comic books. As you might expect, there are also plenty of collectibles and outfits to collect, which do add more lore to the background and story of Guardians of the Galaxy. And those are the best kind of collectibles, which serve an actual purpose. You'll travel to different worlds and locations, with a wide palette of vibrant and dark colors, and the decisions you make down the line, have several (small) consequences which give the story a bit of a personal touch. Even though the ending remains largely the same. Honestly, there's very little to complain about. I hope Square Enix learned its lesson and will use the blueprint of Guardians of the Galaxy as an example of how to move forward. Maybe there is hope for a proper Avengers sequel, but if the positive criticism and sales are anything to go by: I hope they'll focus on a sequel to this game. Most frustrating trophy - ... NONE! There are no difficulty-sensitive trophies to speak of or any other annoying ones that could prove to be a problem. To collect every collectible, it is advised that you do play the game from start to finish while doing so. Not exactly a hassle, because the game is a lot of fun to play, even during a second run. Wash down the sour aftertaste of Marvel's Avengers with this year's exquisite Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Highly recommended.

Jermster_91
#81 The Playroom VR This game took me 3 years and 10 months to get the platinum, not because it is hard or anything but when I got the VR Headset for Christmas in 2017, I tried out The Playroom VR not knowing much going in and got two trophies and never touched it after that because the game is considered a party game, but can be done solo, although you will need a second controller for one of the mini games. The trophies in the game can be gotten in about 1 to 2 hours easily with a few challenging ones being related to the Ghost House and Wanted where ideally you are playing with a second person but can be done solo by propping the VR headset on your head so you can see in the VR and the TV. Popular Post ASMODAIOS344
A short but interesting point and click video game with a simple story that is carried by the marvelous artistic backgrounds and the narrative of Nergal(lead singer of the band Behemoth). Most lore elements are in the background and easy to miss but if you have a interested in the history and folklore of this time period you will enjoy it more. Popular Post MrGarland
Platinum #123 Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars (EU version) Difficulty: 3/10 Playtime: 15 hours (completed in 1 week 3 hours) Enjoyment: 8/10 Remember last time when I said I was going to help someone by playing a certain game, as well as giving some hints about it? I only mentioned the word "Nine". If you guessed Mighty No. 9, then you were correct. By the time I started it, the guy had already made some major progress on it, which meant that he didn't need my help. That said, I decided to at least try and see if it is that bad. My thoughts? Oh, boy. Where do I even begin... Since you've probably seen the thread, there's not much I have to say about this one. This is without a doubt THE worst game I have ever played. I only managed to clear two of the stages before I decided to try some of the challenges. I played one of them for about an hour, but I just kept dying over and over. Not to mention, those falling pillars in the Oil Ring stage are the cheapest death traps I've seen. Oh, and the electric gates that kill you instantly? Do I even need to say anything about them? Overall, it could've been great, but too bad they messed up. Not only is the level design messed up, but also the human characters look terrible. The only good thing I have to say is the music, which sounds alright. I don't have much else to say, so let's just move on. Then there's this. Since I was quite annoyed after playing such a broken mess, I decided to play something that would clear my mind. Looking at my collection, this got my attention. After giving some thought, I decided to play it and see if it's any good. Before I get to that, something that I want to say is that I haven't played any of the Senran Kagura games, nor do I know anything about them. Since this is part of that series, this was my first time playing it. Onto the game. As I've mentioned earlier, I thought it was alright. However, the more I played, the more I started to enjoy it. The gameplay is pretty simple and there's not much to say about the plot (it's your standard Neptunia game), but after my previous platinum (Sky Force Reloaded), I deserve to take it easy. If there's anything negative I have to say about this, there's not too much. Some might complain that there's no English dub, which I also agree with, but I also understand why they didn't do one. Oh well, the Japanese voice cast does a pretty good job too. My biggest complaint, however, is that the enemies are the dumbest I've seen. There were many times when enemies just stood still, allowing me to land hits before they started to react. Overall, this was pretty good. Better than I expected and better than the game I planned to start. It's also much better than Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart or Neptunia Virtual Stars. Don't get me wrong, the latter one is good, but I find the gameplay somewhat unbalanced. I'll jump back to it in 2022 and see if I can get the job done. As for the former one, I'd say it's the worst when it comes to the balance. As you might guess from the screenshots, my favorite duo is Goh and Purple Heart. Goh, because she reminds me of another ninja character from a different game: Saizo from Fire Emblem: Fates and that was a great game. Purple Heart, because her JP VA has a powerful voice which suits her. Not to mention, I've heard a couple of her roles in anime series, including the one I've mentioned a few times in other threads. Next project: Before I start, I'll take some time off for the next few days by focusing on my projects, but I'll be back on the weekend. Once that happens, I'm going old school by playing something I've never played before. And that is: Edited December 1, 2021 by MrGarland

Popular Post guy_flies
"Viking Legend" Assassin's Creed Valhalla What a slog! 135 hours! More than 700 collectibles and mini-sidequests. The game is... fine. I like the modern direction of AC games and open world action RPGS are my favourite genre. But the method of telling the story isn't optimal. There were times when I'd greet allies later in the game and think "who is that again?". In part it's my fault as I'd spend the time to clear a region as I go, but even steam rolling the story there could be 50 hours between first meeting a character and their return, filled with lots of other characters and locations (even dimensions) in between. There's no new AC on the horizon for a while yet and that's a good thing. After that long on the base game I need a break from it for a while. As this is my 9th platinum from an AC game I won't even pretend I won't devour whatever the next release will be though.

Guest
#453 I doubt there's a person on these forums who doesn't know who Pac-Man is. This classic and ingenious game, although simple is quite challenging, of course there are patterns to be mastered and make the game easier, but for casuals this game can be extremely difficult. in my opinion, Pac-Man is brilliant; provides a lot of fun with little. the game consists of very few elements and a simple premise: collect all the pellets, while dodging ghosts in the narrow paths. as the game progressively speeds up, you can make big ghost sequences and get more points. for a professional person in this game, there's the infamous level 256, where the game crashes and becomes impossible. Trophies can be obtained with save scumming at its worst, with plus cloud or usb. you can increase the amount of lives and stagnate the rounds, but I didn't know and I did it the hard way. Popular Post Jermster_91
#82 Maquette This is the second PS Plus game that I had in my Playstation library that I got the Platinum for in the last 3 days. The game is unique in that you can move pieces around and it changes the world so you can progress and solve puzzles that tell the story of a relationship between a couple. The trophies are pretty straight forward with a few that you have to go out of your way to get. My biggest gripe with the game are the speedrun trophies, which seem out of place in a game like this but could be a minority in sharing this opinion. Difficulty 2/10 Time 1-2 hours if you use a guide.

Popular Post Darghel
#123 A Special Girl (Blue Reflection: Second Light) Difficulty: game is too easy (even on normal). Trophies however are annoying Time to Complete: Around 62 hours split into 2 playthroughs (47+15) Recommended: Yes but take it slowly Total score: 8/10 Ahhh Blue Reflection...the original game was my 10th platinum and despite its flaws and kind of lukewarm reception, I really enjoyed it. I loved its slice of life setting and story and the side characters, I loved the music (Sayonara is still one of my favorite final boss theme alongside EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~omness chs ciel sos infel from AT2 and To a Glimmering Tomorrow from CS2), and I loved the combat (it was simple and fun, just never gave you exp though). It was definitely an acquired taste and not a game I could recommend to anyone, but it was definitely one of those games that I truly enjoyed to play. And when I heard a sequel was announced I was very hyped! One of my favorite games getting a sequel? Awesome, I couldn't wait for it...and well it's definitely a better game, but at the same time I feel it lost a lot of its charm too. First things first, let's be positive for a second: the game does feel improved, graphically speaking is leaps above and beyond the predecessor, combat now gives you experience and that's definitely something that might encourage new players to play. The game also has also 6 playable characters (up from 3), the dungeons are better designed and at least feel unique (even if 2 of them are recycled but at least it has a reason), and overall they did improve a lot of the original game's flaws. Combat itself is much simpler and fast paced (I would say, it's basically Ryza's combat) and it's all about saving ether in order to attack. Talent points are now used to unlock passives and more skills, with the non-playable girls giving extra buffs too like for crafting or drop rate or even experience. And crafting has been improved, with now items being able to be powered up thanks to "groups" and infrastructures being able to be upgraded so you can get extra stats. Overall, the game is a lot better and it's a solid 50 hour adventure to boot! Still, I will try to be brief but I can't lie because I can't (urgh, my bad): as much as it's a much better game than the predecessor, I didn't fully like this game. The combat feels too fast, so fast that I mostly mash buttons since there's no reason to save ether points. Even the best skill in the game, Ether Tide, is not worth its 3000 EP expense when you can just stun a boss/enemy and kill them in a one-on-one. Combat is hit or miss: it starts very slow and kind of boring, then about halfway through it becomes so easy it's kind of a joke really. The whole "shifting gear" mechanic is not that fun and actively discourages you to wait for stronger attacks, since it's just better to attack asap. Also you don't transform right away which is kind of a letdown! The music is a hit or miss in my opinion and feels a bit too generic: even the main combat theme is pretty forgettable. Some heartscape dungeons have great music though so I'll give them some slack. The roster has some great characters (Kokoro, Rena, Yuki, Hinako herself) and some less stellar ones (Kirara, Mio, Hiori, the latter of the two being characters from the anime), which is a problem because you have this roster of 10 girls, these ONLY characters in the whole game, and yet they're so uninteresting most of the time it is a shame. Even the villains are pretty forgettable...mainly because there aren't any! The management sim parts are decent at best but not that interesting: it's very limited and its main purpose is to replace weapons and armors (alongside fragments, which work more like perks). It's okay but could've been better. The talent level system feels very bland and very unrewarding, because you have to do dates to gain talent points and dates are boring, because there's no character development in practically any of these. They were meant as a way to give more screentime for each girl but 9 times out of them are just very boring and not really interesting to watch - which is a shame because there are many games who did this already, like Persona or Caligula Effect. But I have to delve a bit deeper into the dating aspect, specifcally because there are trophies around this talent system: most of the trophies are fairly easy, some requiring to visit all locations (which is a missable by the way! so make sure to grab all of them the first time you enter!), and other stuff, but the worst trophies of all are the max talent of all girls as you're required to send them all to level 10. Problem is, you can't do that in a normal playthrough: the most you'll be able to get is 9, maybe one to 10 at best, and even if the game gives you a final boost of choices before the final dungeon there's another problem, which is Ao's talent system because her talent level only increases if others talent level increases, which means that you are going to get many to level 10 before you can get her trophy! That's why a second playthrough is required, and not one you can just rush: you have to almost play the game in full again, do all the dates again, craft anything you can again, and reach level 10! I was at chapter 9 when I finally got it and it definitely longer than expected. It's the only downside of this platinum, requiring an almost full playthrough and even if I skipped most of the cutscenes, you can't skip dates or farming mats for crafting... Other than that, I at least can say that this game is good, it's got better gameplay (I still prefer turn based from the original), an interesting story that is a bit clichè but works - it's not bad at least! - some nice character development through the heartscapes (some of which were pretty and legitimately surprised me). a crafting system that encourages you to do more items in order to be stronger, and more. It's definitely a more detailed game than the predecessor...but I think I'll still prefer the first a tiny bit more. Music aside, I just liked Hinako a bit more and I really enjoyed to see her getting over her accident and become a normal girl, whereas Ao IS a normal girl and she's got no struggles at all...yeah sorry she's just uninteresting for me! Edit: Also for those who might think "why not put on hard", that's the funny thing: you don't. There's no hard mode until you finish the game. And frankly I was too bored to redo the whole game on hard just so I can get its trophies. Edited November 26, 2021 by Darghel I thought I should've added some positive stuff. My bad! Also I still can't be brief!
