Popular Post starcrunch061
Plat #463: LEGO DC Supervillains Here's to Mischief Collect all the trophies Mixed feelings! It's remarkable that the same game can take such care in some aspects, while completely mailing it in others, but here we are. On the one hand, the voice work, the choice in villains, the storyline and side-quests: DC and the devs really did well in getting the feel of this game. Particular praise goes to the voicework, which grabbed a lot of the voice talent from classics like Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Teen Titans: Go! and others. I was particularly pleased that Michael Ironside reprised his role as Darkseid, and amazingly, Gilbert Gottfried actually donned the guise of Mxyzptlk. That guy wasn't even a side-story character, and they still got the old voice to do it! But on the minus side, this is the same buggy, bland Lego game you've been playing since the PS2 era. While I did enjoy some of the puzzles, combat is as insipid as always, the play loop is identical (beat level in story mode, unlock other characters, beat level in free mode while unlocking minikits, repeat). The game crashed on me a couple of times, though it wasn't nearly the mess that Marvel Super Heroes on PS3 was (I've never managed to beat the first level without a crash there). All in all, I can't complain about this as a PS+ game. I went in and bought the DLC for $3 (which, honestly, is about all it's worth; excepting the Mad Hatter character, the character unlocks are lame, and the levels are second-rate). I don't regret the playthrough, thanks to the nostalgia, but as is often said, the only reason to play these games is that you enjoy the franchises they, uhhh, "lego-ize".

Viper
#261 Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure Dragon Keep Assaulted That title though! For those unaware, this is a stand alone version of the DLC from Borderlands 2, meant as sort of a refresher course for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands coming in March. Comes with a few "new" trophies, including a Platinum, taken from the main game such as using every characters action skill for an allotted amount of time or a certain number of times, and doing all level 1 challenges (some of which have lower values than before), and the level cap is capped at 35 so the game not only gives you 2 Skill points per level (instead of 1), it does so right at level 2 instead of waiting to give you your action skill at Level 5. So here's the thing...if you're a BL2 fan, you were probably a fan of this DLC...in my opinion it's the single best DLC in entire franchise, but I wasn't really going to jump of this, didn't see the need...but of course it was cheap and came with a Plat, so I figured why not? And for the most part, it's the same Bunkers and Badasses you know and love, all the Tiny Tina wackiness is still there. However, because of the way they tried to make it, its own thing...the leveling feels very unbalanced. I finished TVHM (NG+) at level 30...so I still had 5 levels to go before I could Plat the game, which means pointlessly having to replay the Badass round of Murderlins Slaughter just to have something with high enough level enemies to give me any XP. You could fight the Ancient Dragons raid boss too...but I can't do that shit solo on TVHM when they scale to my level, I have no idea how people manage it. This game definitely needed to just keep in UVHM for the last few levels. I went with Krieg as my main, as he's the only character in BL2 I never put an extensive amount of time in to. And honestly, I wasn't missing anything, he's a lot like Brick from BL1...I just don't care for melee built characters in an FPS and a lot of his skills are just annoying and hurt you in tense situations. Like he has one that will increase his melee by 250%, but he also has a chance to whack himself in the head, which disorients him and makes the screen flip out...and while it doesn't do a lot of damage, it's enough that it can screw you in a big fire fight. Speaking of fire, he has another skill that increases Elemental Effect Chance...but ends up with a 35% chance to light himself on fire. Very Krieg things to do...but they just seems so pointless...at least it is if you're not focused on some kind of crazy build, which I never am. But his action skill alone is just boring to me...going around meleeing enemies while I take all the damage in the world just isn't fun to me. And he just has nothing that helps you with guns...one of his skill trees could have been for players who wanted to make him a shooter. Then there's the damn Cute Loot trophy for killing a Chubby Enemy. Go anywhere on the net right now and you'll see people complaining about this one. Borderlands 2 was always known for having terrible RNG and drop rates, but my god! For a game rated at about a 35 hour Plat...I put in nearly 70, in large part because of this damn thing not spawning. I spent hours, each day just running the same couple of courses just trying to get it to spawn. And the weird thing is that they seemed to have INCREASED the drop rate for Eridium and Seraph Crystals. Every time you turn around another enemy is dropping them...not only did I max out all my SDU's, but I had 500 Eridium again with nowhere to use it except on Shrines or Moxxi's Eiridum slot machies. And I had more than enough Seraph Crystals to stay with an Antagonist Shield and the weapons from that vendor and keep replacing them at higher levels...for 90% of the game. Soooo why not increase the Chubby's drop rate Gearbox? Needless grinds. Overall it was a fun thing to go back to. It's unbalanced and I, personally, chose poorly on a character to play as, but if you every enjoyed this DLC and you're interesting in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands...get yourself an easy Plat.

Popular Post Elvick_
Platinum #225 Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Masters of the Multiverse Collect All Trophies Was great, not $10 more than A Crack in Time great though. Despite being a huge fan, I can’t justify paying $10 more for games when prior to this virtually every gaming company reports record breaking profits year after year. Not to mention the bs “Deluxe” editions, which this also has. No thanks. Got it used (granted on accident; thought I made sure to order new, wouldn’t have paid $40 for it if I knew it was used, yuck, at least it’s in great condition). Anyhoo, on to the game. I like Rivet, and Spoiler Kit But I felt the game was lacking Rachet in this Ratchet and Clank game. Clank was around enough, but I felt his puzzles were a let down. When I got to them the first time I though there’s be more to it, like gold bolts to earn in later ones, optional challenging ones for something, nope. I thought it’d be more clever like the ACiT ones. It was alright though, just wish they did a bit more. I don’t know what the point of the ssd is when you slow your game down constantly anyway. I don’t mind series staples still being there, the ship flying into a planet as an example. But the way that the arena works is so damn tedious. Not only are you kicked out of the menu (why) when you lose, you have to go through the tedious “Rivet fall, hero land, camera spin” every time. I chose to play on the hardest difficulty and the majority was fun, except that Arena challenge for the shotgun. That sucked. I tried it dozens of times. I finally did it at max level at least. I kind of wish there was more going on in certain moments. I was kind of underwhelmed as far as the use of dimensions and portals went. And Spoiler The final battle, I wish it was less “take turns”. I get why, it’s single player but I’d rather play Ratchet and Clank in my Ratchet and Clank game and have Rivet and Kit just as AI fighting with us or something. That would’ve been cool, instead it’s a tag team. at first when Giant Emperor Nefarious showed up I though “cool, so Ratchet will fight one arm and Rivet the othe…” no. That could’ve been a “take turns” for the player while presenting it as simultaneous in the plot. FFVII Remake did a better job at that. Not to get into that game. Gameplay felt nice, it had really nice use of the DualSense. Nothing as insanely creative and defining as Astro, but it was nice to see it used well again. The weapons themselves were a lot of the same, but that’s kind of R&C these days. They don’t add that many actually new things just reskin what they’ve already done. if they’re going to do that I kind of wish they’d just let us have all the weapons. That’s be madness and I’d love it. the game looked great, I played at 60fps with RT enabled so it could’ve looked better but I didn’t notice any dropped frames. Only visual complaint is the wet fur just looks weird. Otherwise the art style is stunning as always, I do wish they had included more of the races from the other games. I like the story setup, and intro sequence. I kind of wish we could’ve unlocked a full parade through the entire R&C series. It would’ve been cute and fun. the Spoiler Alternate dimension versions of every character were neat. No Helga though… qwark’s voice didn’t seem right, I wonder if it wasn’t the original voice actor. Spoiler Given he had like two lines in cutscenes and most of his lines are gameplay in the start I wonder… there’s a lot of Easter eggs, and revisiting areas at certain times gets new dialog which is neat, Spoiler Angela mention, which is kind of annoying. I get they want to play up Ratchet being alone, but I feel like they could properly acknowledge that he’s met two Lombaxes before this game. That Angela is now just Easter egg material and not given something of substance to do is frustrating as hell. if they make another game actually going to find the Lombaxes and she’s not a main part of it, I swear. The other being Alister. I can understand not wanting to go there, but geez. I don’t think it’s any less impactful to acknowledge it’s not his first time. The universe has acknowledged their scarcity many times, and we go numerous games without any other than Ratchet. the references to Sky, Jak and Daxter, Knack and LittleBigPlanet were cute. And the final Lorb or whatever talking to any Lombax left behind hit me in the feels. good to see Talwyn even if only in the credits as an image. Music was great. I did have some glitches, like near the end of my platinum there was just weird phantom objects appearing and Rivet’s nose was see through. and dialog repeating over and over because one line was mute so it’d start back over with the same character. Really odd. but it was fun. I so wish the entire series could be played natively on PS5. I’d love to replay and replatinum them all, once more. Especially the Future games, and UYA. And be able to plat one we haven’t been able to yet, like ACiT, Quest for Booty, Secret Agent Clank, Size Matters… I hope they make more. I could play the series forever, it’s always fun. Even the worst ones are fun. I’d put this in probably top 5… let’s see A Crack in Time, Up Your Arsenal, Into the Nexus, Going Commando… yeah, I’d put that in the top with them. Big fan of Nexus, the darker tone is so amazing. Even starting challenge mode on this I skipped the cutscenes, but into the Nexus I watched three times all the way through. (Took me three playthroughs to plat lol). I digress.

Popular Post Boomshanks
( 73) UNCHARTED 4 ONE LAST TIME Enjoyment: 10/10! Difficulty: 7/10 (crushing no cheats) My last platinum of 2021. I challenged myself to get 12 platinums last year (which is the most I’ve ever gotten in an year) and I actually succeeded with Uncharted 4 capping of the list in a brilliant fashion. Uncharted 4 is my favorite game in the franchise, closely followed by Uncharted 2. The story and characters are some of the best I’ve seen in a game ever. That scene with Nate and Elena in their house just feels like a real relationship and it’s a testament to the writers that they have moments like this throughout the game. Elena has to be one of the coolest characters in any game ever. And the performances are incredible across the board. With Sully, you can tell he is genuinely worried about Nate as they go on this adventure and Naughty Dog does an excellent job of portraying this in all the small little details. And the banter between all of the characters is top notch. I could just watch a road trip of Nate, Sam and Sully all day . And I could just keep talking about these characters and the performances by the actors all day as well. They are probably my favorite characters and performances in any game. And Naughty Dog tried a different approach with a Nate that is older and more cautious and who actually takes some damage this time around. The story is more subdued and for the first time there are no supernatural elements, which I loved. Rafe is also a great villain and one who doesn’t get enough credit in my opinion. The end fight is thrilling and the game perfectly concludes the Uncharted game series for me . So often, we see studios go on with a game or series for far too long. I’m glad Naughty Dog decided to end it like this, on an absolute high note. This time you’re looking for the lost city of Libertalia where all of the most famous pirates were supposed to keep their treasure. The game does a great job of slowly unravelling the mystery as you come closer to the end. The environments are incredible and I’m glad they scaled down the setpieces a bit. The parts with the car chasing you are exciting but are the weakest part in the game in my opinion. The game looks absolutely gorgeous. If I wanted the show someone how good a PS4 game could look I would show them the part just after the shipwreck when the weather clears up. It’s unbelievable that they managed to create this years ago. One can only imagine what they’ll be able to do with the new PS5 hardware. I could just keep talking about Uncharted 4, it really is a masterpiece. In my opinion it’s the best game in an incredible series and deserves all the praise it gets. The trophies are a bit different than the other Uncharted games, with even a speedrun trophy. I did the Crushing difficulty without any cheats, just like I did on the previous Uncharted games and man… that was difficult. There were a few encounters that I dreaded, like the Ship Graveyard and… yep, they were absolutely brutal . But in the end I got through it and got my platinum goal for the year. On to another year, with many more platinums to come.

Popular Post JAK-KRIEG
Platinum #618 - Bound by Flame Enjoyment: 4/10 Difficulty: 5/10 Time: Roughly 20 hours I bought the game on sale about 2 years ago, played the prologue and thought nope not feeling it, but recently I've been looking through my library to see what I can play without spending more money. So I saw bound by Flame and decided to give it another go. It's by no means a great game but it does have a few fun things about it like the combat and the upgrades to your gear. The story is boring and the characters are boring, but it's worth playing if you can get it from the cheapest bargain bin.

Popular Post StrayEidolon
Platinum #113: Astro's Playroom For a lot of PlayStation 5 trophy hunters, it may be safe to assume that this will be their first PS5 platinum trophy. Apparently Genshin Impact has a tight grip on me as Astro is my second PS5 platinum. Anyway, this is a charming platformer and a fun way to test out what the Dualsense can do. More than that, it is a joyful virtual museum to PlayStation’s history with plenty of cute gaming references that are (or have been) connected to the brand. Delightful-looking environments, awesome final boss and some short time trials to get competitive with friends over. Great launch title. Popular Post Sofa King
164 Teslagrad I've had this game collecting digital dust for 6+ years and finally motivated myself to finish it. I just never really got into this game when I first played. The controls never felt comfortable and for a game needing a degree of precision it felt more like dumb luck getting past the trickier sections, Protective Father especially. Just glad to have it done and off my list of incompletions. This also marks my 225th complete game so I'm pretty stoked on that too.
Popular Post Cmndr_Yoshi
It has been a busy couple weeks, starting around Christmas, gaming-wise. First up... Platinum 140 de Blob 2 Rarity - %11.62 I posted up de Blob a couple weeks back and mentioned how much I enjoyed that game. Having played this one again, I'm truly at a loss as to which one I enjoy more. The controls are better in part 2 but I feel like the levels are better-designed in part 1. This is worth a play if you enjoy a semi-platformer / painting hybrid. As for trophies, they aren't bad from a difficulty standpoint, but you will have to be thorough on each level and paint EV-ER-Y-THING. __________________________ Platinum 141 L.A. Noire (PS4) Rarity - %16.18 (Plat) / %11.60 (DLC) There's not much more to say about L.A. Noire that hasn't already been said, especially considering its age, but I still feel that it holds up even today. It's open-world, so you're bound to have your open-world issues (pop-ups, weird vehicle spawns, etc.), but it was a massive risk that I think paid off. I'm on the fence regarding a sequel...on one hand, I think I'd like to see one someday, but on the other hand, this game sits on its own as a unique experience that, for better or worse, hasn't been replicated since. Trophies are standard fare for open-world games with some being fairly straight-forward and others causing somewhat of a headache (find and drive all vehicles). _____________________________ Platinum 142 Hoa (PS5) Rarity - %84.40 I saw this on the shelf and figured I'd give it a try. It was a nice palette cleanser after L.A. Noire, though it wasn't much in terms of gameplay. What it lacks in gameplay, though, it makes up for in visuals. Even in the image shown above, the visuals have a gorgeous Studio Gibli-type look to them. Hoa is an easy platinum, obviously, but it will take 2 to 3 hours and there are four missable trophies, so keep that in mind if you're interested in giving this a shot. _____________________________________ Platinum 143 Sonic Forces Rarity - %4.31 (Platinum) / %3.50 (DLC) This is one of those game that gets undeserved hate. And I do mean 'hate'. I recently even saw a mini-review that said this was a "trash" game. I just don't see it that way. Is it the best sonic game? No. Is it great entry into the series? Absolutely. Sonic Forces is stuffed full of things to do and levels to explore. The controls can be quite wonky and frustrating at times, but overall this was a fun experience for me. Trophy-wise...well, let's just say you're going to be busy playing the levels over...and over...and over again. Whether it's collecting the different types of special rings, or completing the in-game mission (achievement) list, there's a TON of things you'll need to do to grab the plat. Word of advice...start the game on Hard difficulty. Hard difficulty isn't any more difficult than Normal difficulty, plus Normal difficulty maxes out your ring counter at 100 in each level. Considering you'll need to collect 100,000 rings for all trophies, you're going to need to start off better than I did. Thanks for spending time reading this update/post. Looking forward to seeing what games you guys complete! Edited January 4, 2022 by Cmndr_Yoshi
