SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated

 

 

How can a game with such a vibrant color palette feel so lifeless? Even as a longtime SpongeBob viewer, I found Rehydrated to be a fairly generic and dull collectathon platformer, which fails to utilize locations from the show to their full potential, and halfheartedly shoehorns references in just for the sake of it. Of course, the voice cast is phenomenal as always—besides Krabs and Mermaid Man, who are voiced by some soundalike actor—but the humor is a mixed bag. While it certainly isn't as painfully unfunny as newer SpongeBob episodes, Rehydrated only managed to squeeze a couple of laughs out of me by the end of its 12-hour playtime. I've never identified with Squidward more.

 

As you may have guessed, the undersea city of Bikini Bottom is in a quandary, thanks to another one of Plankton's harebrained evil schemes. Hostile robots are streaming out of the Chum Bucket restaurant to terrorize the populace, and for completely arbitrary reasons, SpongeBob can't gain access to stop it unless he collects at least 75 Golden Spatulas first. These are the game's main collectible, akin to the stars in Mario 64, but there's also Shiny Objects, a currency required to both pay Krabs for more spatulas, and unlock forward progress at "toll clams" in many levels. A somewhat annoying design choice, since I was forced to stop and farm them on several occasions. Finally, you must also seek out Patrick's lost socks (ew) to trade for even more spatulas.

 

At bus stops throughout the game, one can switch between the eponymous SpongeBob, Patrick the starfish, and flying squirrel Sandy Cheeks, each with unique abilities. SquarePants has basic spinning and stomp attacks, and can launch himself vertically to destroy objects directly above him. By the late game, he also unlocks two bubble projectiles, including the very useful Cruise Bubble, which functions almost identically to the Nikita remote missile from MGS. Patrick possesses similar melee moves, along with the strength to carry and throw various heavy objects, which is necessary to solve certain puzzles. Sandy can Karate chop and kick enemies, destroy them from afar with her lasso, and glide for long distances. I enjoyed the bit of variety this provides, although Sandy is overpowered enough to make the other characters feel like inferior choices, at least until Sponge earns his ranged attacks.

 

Despite some sporadic camera angle issues, it's a pretty easy game for platforming veterans overall, but there are a number of surprising difficulty spikes. I have to wonder how many parents regretted buying this for their children, because areas such as the Kelp Forest and SpongeBob's Dream are definitely not "kid's game" material. It was wise of them not to limit lives, that's for sure. Personally, I welcomed Rehydrated's tougher challenges as a reprieve from the boredom it inflicts the rest of the time. If anything, the game needed more of this stuff. Such pitiful, pushover boss fights, too; a shame.

 

A decidedly mediocre experience for me, but it did whet my appetite to finally play the far better Spyro Reignited trilogy, for whatever that's worth. Now stop staring at me with them big ol' eyes!

I was honestly a little intimidated by this with Delta Difficulty, but it really wasn't that bad. 

 

I bought this trilogy on PS3 ages ago and never got around to playing it, and I think it had a lot to do with Delta Difficulty, a lot of posts around here and elsewhere made it seem like it was doable, but a real headache. So when the remasters came out, I figured it's even better time to try this series out. Plus the PS3 versions of 2 and 3 having online didn't help. 

 

The game was fun, but by today's standards it is a pretty dated FPS. It's very much get from point A to point B in (very) large hub areas taking out enemies along the way (or avoiding them entirely). The game also has that older mentality that you always have to be in danger, so if you're making it to your destination unscathed, that won't last long...enemies will spawn in, somewhere a round you. I did 2 playthroughs, the first on Normal then on Delta. Other than enemies killing you MUCH quicker, Delta wasn't that much harder than Normal...in fact I probably had a harder time with the end boss on Normal than I did Delta. 

 

This game weirdly changes wildly on what it is by Act 3. The first two acts are you vs. North Korea and it's mostly using the cloak to stealth your way through areas...then the aliens come into play and the whole idea of the game changes, cloaking doesn't help much any more and you have to utilize the suit armor...which barely does much. It's basically...can you kill them faster than they kill you? I personally felt the whole of Act 3 was annoyingly paced and the final boss fight wasn't well designed. In a game where you die super fast, there isn't much in the way of defense or cover for you...I found this broken VTOL that provided me cover, but I feel like that wasn't supposed to be the intention of how you play. 

 

Performance wise on PS5, the game runs perfectly fine. The only odd hiccup you get is when you hit a checkpoint and the game autosaves...it freezes for a split second which can be jarring, especially if you're focused on a task. Other than that I didn't have any series framerate dips or anything like that. 

 

Fun game for the most part, that's very Gen 7. Some annoyances in act 3. Probably was a hell of a game in it's prime. But I look forward to seeing what 2 and 3 have to offer now as I hear they're much better.

My most recent platinum was in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. This is an excellent game that does have some foibles, those being bugs that were never patched and a slow burn opening. Also, there are lot trophies in the DLC's tied to actions in the main campaign so as much as I hate to say it, following a guide is recommended.

 

That said I loved my time with KCD. 1403 Bohemia definitely had its challenges but this is one of those games that you just lose yourself in. Think Skyrim minus the fantasy elements and much more realistic combat. I felt like I really was Henry learning to pick locks, swing a sword, and shoot a bow. 

 

If you're looking for a game to sink hundreds of hours into, step into Henry's shoes and guide him from a blacksmith's son to a knight felling bandits.

 

PSA: If you have the Royal Edition, do not touch any part of the last DLC, A Woman's Lot, until after beating the main campaign. You've been warned.

Underrated game at this point, I was insanely critical of this game being a big multiplayer fan but the zombies are really good and its crazy so many ppl probably never experienced this game due to the overall hate it got. The story isn't great in single player but Zombies are really damn good. I did all DLC. The game took me about 35HRS total for the 100%. The Zombie trophies are insanely challenging. This isn't an easy game by any means. It's my 4th rarest platinum on this site but it's a pretty enjoyable game all these years later. I wouldn't touch the terrible multiplayer though, this coming from someone who gets Nuclears and V2 Rockets on more recent cod games lol.

As a HUGE fan of the Trials series, I cannot objectively say this is a good Trials game, because it isn’t. That doesn’t mean that in parts it’s not fun, some levels are really cool and creatively - the team went wild with this one! I just can’t shake some of the terribly implemented segments with wonky mechanics: Jet-packs, Grapple-hook and the run and gun platforming sections were a total mess, imo. 
 

I understand this is not meant to be a hardcore Trials game, and as a hardcore Trials fan - the game probably wasn’t aimed at me. There’s enough good for it not to be outright terrible but enough bad for it not to be good. I’m happy to have the series complete for what’s available on PlayStation and move on to the next one!

Hmm, it could simply be the case that my rapidly aging gray matter has a distorted recollection of the original game by now, but a few things seem off about this remaster. Sure, the game looks absolutely stunning, but it actually feels less responsive than the old version, and there appears to be some frame rate jitter when turning the camera. I could swear I never missed jumps so often in the PS1 incarnation. And was Spyro always this annoyingly overconfident? It's no wonder all those massive, tough guy dragons he frees from Gnasty Gnorc's crystalline imprisonment don't bother to help him in any material way, beyond offering repetitive tips about gliding. I had also forgotten just how compact most of the levels are—a surprisingly brief game!

 

Fortunately, Spyro Reignited retains that spellbinding gameplay flow I remember so fondly from my youth. When you're gleefully charging around at blinding speed, bashing open chests, scorching goofy-looking baddies, and vacuuming up every last colorful gem you can find, it's hard to think about anything else. Most collectathon platformers feel like a chore to me, but Spyro was always a joy to spend time with—it's the gaming equivalent of comfort food. I'm also appreciative that they added Sparx the Dragonfly's helpful gem finder ability, which I don't believe made its debut until the third game originally. One thing certainly hasn't changed, though: the flying levels are still kinda bad. Poor controls, bad camera, and the flame breath's range is apparently too limited to hit targets right in front of Spyro's face. Thankfully, they're few and far between.

 

Well, onwards to Ripto's Rage, which I recall being the best of the trilogy. We'll see how that holds up!

It's been a while since my last one, but here's another old account platinum re-earned!

 

Not too much to say about it, it's a fun portable FPS with an interesting story. Granted, there is a endgame twist that I didn't like, but other than that, yeah pretty fun.

As a gaming experience, I can see why it's beloved as it is. From the gameplay to the art and character design, to its intriguing narrative, it is a great playthrough. That story  especially, as it's great to see a 2d platformer that walks the fine line between being an engaging adventure with twists and drama, and total self-wankfest. Just saying, axing that scenario where Shovel Knight was gonna bury his loved one was a good idea, as the last thing we need is it another faux-Mother narrative with ooooo so sad and dark, betcha didn't see that coming did ya? elements. 

 

As a gaming experience, it's a bit more complicated. For the longest time, this was one I was content to never get done. Most of it was on me; I tried to approach it like I could get it all done in a few playthroughs, and oh no, this game was not having it. It humbled me, so to speak. It wasn't until a few weeks ago, where I rechecked the trophy guide on here that a Time Trial exploit was found for the PS3, that my interest was peaked. A couple of researches later, I found out the Armor of Chaos powerful attacks (that I was aware of) has the unintended (?) benefit of letting you defy gravity. Trying it myself, suddenly risky jumps that irritated me where a thing of the past, so much that I confidently said "you know what? Let's go for it." And here I am, 1 shiny blue platinum later.

 

Props to those who got it done legit. Just a game that I can definitely see why everybody loved, but when it got down to it, I just wasn't geling with. Thankfully I learned my lesson with Cuphead, which I am happy to enjoy from a distance. Special shoutout to @Alucard_Brabofor bringing that trick to light!

I have to say I have enjoyed Saints Row: Gat out of Hell. It was very decent and it wasn't serious just like Saints Row IV: Re-elected back then. It turned out alright and the lack lusting story was very short and easy to begin with. It was very good and gathering the new power-ups from certain activities throughout the open-world hell. I know it seems a bit tad off boring and all but those mayhem challenges was addicting as fuck. Keeping on repeating those challenges just to make more money and chewing most of it as time passes on.

 

Weapons/Upgrades: Those weapons I have fully upgraded to all of em at max was a bit tricker then I thought and as I said before farming those money was annoying but very quickly as always and it took me 30 seconds to make around $5750 hell money (I don't know what currency it is lol) each time. So it is acceptable and not much for me to say around it.

 

I have taken my time slowly and bear with it completely. I know I would of gotten this done way sooner then you all think but I had other preparations to make for my other games in the making. But hey in the end it will turned out just fine as always.

# Wild Arms.

 

.Wild Arms is one of my favorite frachises, despite being slightly forgotten which pains me deeply, the fact why it is so especial to me is because it was my very first PS1 one game and a gift from late mother, so replaying it brought me feelings of nostalgia and a remembrance, as for the story it's the regular JRPG trope, unlikely people meeting, becoming dear friends and saving the world, it shows how important true friendships are and that you are not alone, even when you think no one cares, especially if you are different, gameplay wise it's the traditional turn based RPG, simple but engaging, as for the platinum it was a joy, it basically asks you to see everything the game has to offer which so happens is my favorite kind of platinum journey, all in all an incredible game that's very dear to my heart and couldn't recommend more.
