Popular Post Darling Baphomet
204: Serious Sam Collection (4.09%) Rarity's a bit inflated (deflated?) because of the NA version of the game still having a glitched trophy. Luckily, I have a German side account I made years ago and as such was able to obtain an actual platinumable version of the game. Anyway, the Serious Sam games are classic FPS action filled with iconic enemies such as the horse skeleton-esque kleer, charging werebulls, and screaming headless kamikazes. The Serious Sam collection is... well, it's a port of the first three games of the series, ignoring Serious Sam 2 since Croteam seams to have all but disowned it. I tried playing this on the Switch first, where it had massive performance issues; on PS5, the game runs silky smooth, as you'd expect, although it is unfortunate that you still have to choose between the blurry performance mode and the high resolution fidelity mode. The trophy list is fairly straight forward, requiring you to play through three games and two DLCs (one of which is absolutely fucking godawful), and then top it off with a serious difficulty run of one of the three base games, which makes enemies hit twice as hard as on normal and move and attack faster, but gives you double ammo to balance it out. Combined with being able to rocket jump to skip some encounters, serious was nowhere near as bad as I expected it to be, although I still had to quicksave like a madwoman to get through it.

Popular Post Stockton572
#217 Steep King of the mountain What a joy it is to get this one out of the way. Thank goodness for those added missions so I didn't have to do the especially tricky wingsuit missions. I still recommend Steep as a game, but the platinum requires a lot of trial and error.

Popular Post Moridin83
#250 Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth This is one of my all time favorite games, so I wanted it for this milestone. I'm not even going to try to be objective on this one, but I will admit it has its flaws. The voice acting ranges from serviceable to pretty bad, depending on the character, and even the line. For the love of all that is holy, turn on the classic filter ASAP to save your eyes. And the biggest thing is if you play decently, you are criminally under engaged with the battle system. I am a huge fan of VP's battle system, but you spend the first third of the game killing everything with spam all magic, the last third (minus bonus dungeon) killing everything with big magic, and the post game tanking through un-survivable hits with Guts, Angel Curios, and Auto-Item. But that middle third, where you're actually strategically stringing together attacks in the right order to get the most purple gems, and do your proper PWS chains is some of my favorite use of any turn based system ever. Add to that a story that's stronger than it has any right to be, mainly based on the character introductions and interactions, and you have a game that I absolutely love. One note though, if anyone tells you they got the A ending for the first time with no guide, call them a liar...repeatedly...to their face!? I'm kidding a little, but it is seriously unlikely anyone would stumble upon the requirements for the best ending without significant use of a walkthrough. It's just that obtuse.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
#637 - Shadow Warrior 3 A decent enough FPS. I'm not much into arena shooters which is why this one is guaranteed to be my least favourite of the series. It's still fun, but the combat gets a tad boring after a you realize, you still have to deal with another wave of enemies. Looks and sounds great though. After all these years its announced outta nowhere with trophy support for PS Plus premium, so heck yeah I jumped in and I loved it! I love the Primitive 3D models, I love the music, and I love Robbit, because rabbits are cool.

Popular Post starcrunch061
PLAT #518 - DEMON'S SOULS (PS5) At this point, I feel like some people just hate games for the sake of hating them. While most people gushed over the Demon's Souls Remake(?), there're always a few folks, right? Those folks usually buff up their credentials first ("I slayed 134,112 black phantoms back on PS3!"), before giving some weird technical reason why the game isn't as good as everyone says ("If you played the original, you'll realize that the hit windows have become more trapezoidal in nature...but with right angles!"). OK - I made those up. But the point is, while I'm certainly no great expert, I did plat Demon's Souls 3 times on the PS3, and even partook in a little online combat (Pushed Talisman of Beasts for the win!). So when I heard that Demon's Souls would be getting the upscale treatment, naturally I wanted a PS5. But unfortunately, due to "supply chain issues" and "COVID related issues", it took multiple years from release to get that PS5. Finally, I got it, and I got to play. And...it's great! I loved it. Yeah, I know I took a break from it, but that was only because time got away from me over the holidays (with family around 24/7), and I got annoyed by farming a stupid gold coin. But all in all, I enjoyed every minute of this game, and I imagine most Demon's Souls fans will as well. Amazingly (and unlike Shadow of the Colossus), BluePoint managed to keep some of the jank that made Demon's Souls memorable, while correcting other jank that was just annoying. Arrows are one of the great examples: the original Demon's Souls often saw you firing arrows that stopped in mid-air, because the game thought that some bridge extended beyond its graphical scope. But here, sniping is glorious. Your Dragon Bone Smasher will still get hung up in cave areas (with a ridiculous graphic to boot), which I find good. I could have used a better camera on level 5-1, however. Gameplay is smooth, though I feel that enemies (particularly bosses) are significantly easier here. As I mentioned in a status update, I don't remember a time where I was tanking the Flamelurker. The Maneater remains the worst boss for a slow melee character, but it seems a lot more manageable this time around (his green fire, and AOE explosion just don't seem to hit you as much). I've never been particularly good with the False King, but here, he's an absolute joke. His Soulsucker attack is probably the least dangerous attack in the game. Maybe it's because I went pure melee this time, but he seemed so much slower and more manageable here. Some enemies, however, are very annoying. BP Lord Rydell gave me fits. But for the most part, things seem easier. Hell - those annoying giant jerks in the poison swamp are far less menacing than I ever remember them. Trophies in this one are really nice. I enjoyed the special "do this particular action" trophies. There was none of the silliness with getting the best weapons with each stone. You do need a bit of grind (you have to get all rings, all miracles and all sorceries), but I enjoy the game, so why wouldn't I want to kill more bosses? I give special praise to the music here. I was initially worried about the new soundtrack, but the composer has taken special pains to keep the themes of the tunes of the original Demon's Souls, and upgrade them will full orchestration. I was particularly impressed that, while the Tower Knight and the Penetrator have different music, the underlying theme is still "bum bum bum bum bum!". All in all, this was a great title, and I highly recommend it. Edited January 31, 2023 by starcrunch061

My very fist platinum of this year 2023! ? I really enjoyed my time with this game, it has its flaws and bugs that sometimes are embarrassing for a multi billion dollar company, but overall I enjoyed the game and spent many hours playing just for fun, I got to max level on multiplayer which is 250 so that sums up my enjoyment for the game. I'd like to delete the game from my PS5 but my girlfriend loves shooting games and every time she comes to my house she asks to play MW2 haha ??
Popular Post PotrikBerger
Forspoken (PS5) Anticipation - 4/5 First big game release of ‘23 and I was looking forward to playing it more than anything else that’s due in Jan/Feb (apart from football manager next month). Hadn’t seen or read any reviews before I bought it so wasn’t fully aware of the criticism it had received before I started playing and I haven’t played a demo in my life. All the promotional teaser trailers and such that I had seen in the previous two years to it’s release always made me think back to the open world of just cause 3 for some reason, and how you traversed so fluidly around that world with the wing suit etc. I don’t know why, but it just seemed to strike that just cause 3 fluidity-chord with me, however tenuous the link maybe. And I loved that game. So yeah, I was looking forward to playing this. Enjoyment - 4/5 Overall, I’d have to say, it was really quite enjoyable to play. It’s completely lost on me why there is such criticism of the voice acting. If I wasn’t aware of the backlash against it, I never would have blinked twice at it. It’s not award winning by any means, but at same time, I could discern no difference from this game and any other run-of-the-mill script with run-of-the-mill exposition and run-of-the-mill dialogue. It was all pretty standard. Certainly not terrible anyways. Yeah, there is lots of annoying repetition of the same scripted lines when repeating actions...but again, not exactly the only high profile release to cut some corners or save costs in this way. Outside of that, the gameplay is good I thought. It starts off a little janky in the beginning and can feel very stop-start with the unwelcome coupling of input delays between actions & interacting with npc’s and the opening couple of hours being very cut-scene heavy, so I do understand why some may not have persevered. But as soon as you get through the intro stuff and start upgrading the spells, expanding your spell knowledge and get to grips with the timings of button inputs, it becomes a real delight to parkour around the open world. Tussling with enemies feels very dynamic and energetic too. The fight mechanics themselves and the attack options available to you are varied enough to never get dull, and I absolutely loved having some of the ‘collectables’ be a series of actions to complete rather than every single item on the ‘collectable’ checklist requiring you to trapse to the four corners of the world and everywhere in between like most recent open world titles. This really encourages you to vary the spells you are using which all adds to the interest being kept high. Retrospect - 3/5 i enjoyed my time with this game. Nothing in it felt like a grind, and just as I may have been starting to approach boredom with collecting cats and whatnot, I found I pretty much had them all. So probably got the balance just about right. Probably. The movement and traversal were fluid (after the initial 2/3 hours), the spells were much more fun and interesting then say a, Ghostwire: Tokyo and on the whole I couldn’t really not recommend this game. Sure, there are a few areas it could do better on, as is the case for many, many other games, but I can’t get away from the fact I didn’t find a serious failing (beyond the initial stop-start and traversal jankiness) with this game that was sustained throughout my play through. And it’s the first game I’ve played on day one release, in what must be well over 12 months now, that didn’t glitch or crash once. Popular Post RoastedPeanut
#216 - Monster World IV Monster World IV - 29.82% Difficulty: 4/10 Enjoyment: 7/10 This game again?! I've played this a few times recently. From the PS3 version, to the Wonder Boy Collection, to the remake. This was the copy that came as a digital download as part of the Asha in Monster World remake. I had bought the digital version of the remake, but came across someone on eBay selling just the code for the download so I grabbed it for $7. I can never get enough of the Wonder Boy series. This is a great entry in the series and can actually be quite challenging at times, especially the Sky Castle with its crazy moving platforms and spikes waiting to take you back to the start of the area. While it's not my favourite in the series, it's still a really enjoyable platformer and I know I'll be playing through again when I grab the Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection
