For those who don't know what Gamer Gate is, here's everything that's happened so far.

Gamer Gate? You mean that idiotic fiasco that's got all the radical feminists, gaming "journalists," and their cats in an uproar? We are seriously giving these people more attention than they deserve. This really is no different from the monthly celebrity mishap, both in trend and stupidity. All this really shows is that gaming journalism is a grand farce, something I'm sure the majority of gamers already know. I just hope this thing dies like it should and whatever changes need to be made are made quickly. Although I will admit, the guy commentating in the video is rather amusing.

If anything GG needs all the attention it can get.. we need these corrupt journalists and the shitty agenda pushing gaming news websites, shut down and not given any kind of stage to speak from.

As you can see, sites like reddit and 4chan are blocking any kind of coversation in an attempt to silence our anger. Meanwhile all the journalists are trying to cover their asses and call all gamers misogynists, woman haters (same thing) and racists.. they really are pathetic, we can't let them get away with it, they need to go and we can't stop GG until they're gone for good.

Their corrupt bullshit and feminist agenda has no place in the gaming industry at all.

I didn't mean the cause needs less attention, I meant the individuals who are obtaining notorious celebrity status from all this. I wholeheartedly agree that these people need to be removed from the gaming industry as all they are contributing is harm to an already unstable environment. If it were up to me, I'd get rid of gaming journalism as it currently is entirely. Gaming is supposed to be a pastime where a person can unwind after a long day or have fun by themselves or with some friends. We don't need these conceited jackasses shoving politics down our throats and telling us we're the problem.

My word, I...I-I can't believe they would...You have my condolences, good sir. This travesty shall not go unpunished! Come! Arm yourself with holy water, silver daggers, and a flintlock! We shall march down to these scoundrels and show them our wrath!  Let no injustice of this magnitude be forgotten!

@Kukyona - Actually if people just used their heads and stopped putting these people up on a pedestal and blindly believing whatever they read on their favorite site this never would have been as big of a problem. But that's obviously asking a lot too. And you know, if people actually wrote and acted with maturity then a lot of this wouldn't have happened either.

@godzillaboy100 - It's my understanding that the feminism bit is actually separate but has still been getting lumped into the idiotic "gamer gate" name. I could be mistaken though as I haven't watched any videos about it, even that would be giving "journalists" and wannabe "journalists" more attention than just about all of them deserve.

(Not everything is a gate people. Just because there was Watergate doesn't mean gate has to be used for everything else. I think I'll come up with Ripoff Gate as a label for all these different gates everyone seems to love to come up with these days).

Either way though, I agree, the majority of the people writing for these sites really shouldn't be doing so. Pretty much all of them are trying to be a critic in one way or another when all they're capable of doing is writing something vitriolic.

To me, a person actually worthy of being a gaming journalist would have maturity and be capable of acknowledging that their opinion is just that, their opinion. It's not fact like you see so many try to make it out to be. Even here, on the best Playstation site out there you have people like this. If they don't like a game they make it out to be the game's fault when hey, maybe it's just not for them. They make it out to be that because they feel that way then everyone else must have that opinion too. Anyone can write an article about something in gaming, I've done a few myself, but that doesn't mean everyone who does write an article is automatically a reviewer or a critic or even worthy of any attention at all. Yet, invariably there will be people who will hold these "writers" in high esteem.

I think Anton Ego said it best (and yes, I'm actually quoting an animated character from Ratatouille) - "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."

I agree, i personally don't use any of those sites anyway, I have no interest in listening to buffoons talk like their opinion is gospel, they also click bait like it's their day job.. oh wait it is.. so yeah, I steer clear, I've seen many people fall for and regurgitate their bullshit so much to the point where it's annoying me enough to care about flushing out these corrupt self indulgent fucks out of the industry.

I agree with the quote you left also.

I completely agree.

Are these guys the gaming version of peta?

I know that a lot of the well-known, extreme feminists, like Anita, are getting riled up in this. Although, as you said, it may not entirely be dealing with "Gamer Gate." Also, that quote is very powerful, despite its origins.

As a side note, you bring up a good point about the name "Gamer Gate." The Watergate Scandal was called what it was because of its relation to the real life Watergate Hotel. Why is this being linked to that at all? Their similarities are very miniscule.

couple things i learned from my intended limited exposure to this mess:

1) be kind to one another. seriously. no one deserves death threats, harassment, or any of that bs.

2) be skeptical of everything you read. reviews are opinions. reviewers have bias, it's unavoidable. ultimately, you have to draw your own conclusions.

Is this that story that started over a butthurt ex boyfriend posting "grand revelations" over multiple websites that got deleted because they each rightfully recognized it for what it was, i.e. revenge porn, until he had to get his own website to be heard? Then it turns out Zoe Quinn's vagina controls the game journalism industry or some tin foil hat nonsense like that? Yeah, I agree with godzillaboy or whatever, that we're giving trolls way more attention then they deserve. I stopped listening the second this snide fucker in the video said the words "Zoe Quinn", because this all started with one guy and his revenge fantasy. Nobody was giving any of this attention when people were getting fired because game companies didn't like the negative reviews their games were getting in like, 2011 or whenever that was way before this when I first heard shenanigans like that taking place. So, like, cool story bro.

I would rather sandpaper the asshole of an alligator inside a telephone booth then see another discussion of this mind-numbingly retarded topic ever again. I'd much rather re-open this completely idiotic thread and renew discussion about how I'm a completely horrible person for disliking Proteus and trying to serve a word of warning ahead of time to people that might think the same way.

Honestly by thinking this is about Zoe Quinn only proves you don't know what you're talking about.

No porn was leaked. He showed a screenshot of her admitting she had cheated on him with five guys.. a couple of which were game journalists.

Those Journalists in question, gave Zoe Quinn's game glowing reviews and or promoted it, which totally shits in the face of Journalist ethics.

That's how it all started, but it's moved so far beyond that, that whole Zoe Quinn mess is irrelevant.

More and more evidence has come out showing the corruption in Gaming Journalism. That's what Gamer Gate is all about.. exposing and getting rid of the corruption in the gaming media.. it has nothing to do with Zoe Quinn anymore, if you watched the whole video you'd know that.

Zoe Quinn does have nudes online.. but she put those up herself on a website (I've forgot the name) where you can purchase them.

If you didn't want to discuss Gamer Gate why did you come to this thread?

As for Proteus, fanboy's are fanboy's, their opinion of you is irrelevant, if they can't handle differing opinions they should get off the internet.

It's okay to disagree with people on certain things.. fanboy's don't seem to grasp that, they'll just judge your entire being because you don't like a game they do.

When I can fast forward through this video to five or six different places at random, you know just to see if they say anything interesting, and within less than a minute they mention that girl's name YET AGAIN, really sounds like this all centers on her. You know, just throwing that out there.

And yes, gaming journalists all got together to give glowing reviews for her retarded little browser game that you don't even need to pay for... I'm still struggling to figure that out, because you can either donate to the Suicide Helpline, give her a set amount of your choosing, or give her a stiff middle finger and play for free. I might be inclined to agree that there's under the table deals for reviews if she was $20 buck end of story, but not for a game you can play for free. What benefit would anyone get from giving glowing reviews of a game to drum up sales to something that isn't even technically being sold? Can you explain that to me, because nobody fucking can! I'll fall out of my chair in amazement if you can, so surprise me.

This is what I did: "blah blah blah *skip* blah blah Zoe Quinn *skip* blah blah blah Zoe Quinn's supporters *skip* blah blah Zoe Qu- *skip*" All around this video.

Explain to me how this isn't about this freaking girl and her retarded browser game that pissed off the wrong guy when they mention her name 15 times in the time I skipped around this video? And revenge porn? That doesn't necessarily even mean nudes so much as it means some dude getting his jollies posting his post breakup rant on... 30 goddamn sites, wasn't it, and starting this whole thing?

The funny part about all this? Nobody gave a shit that this sort of thing had been happening for years, until one ex boyfriend got butthurt. Do they mention anything that I linked to in your video?

You know what the great thing about game journalism is?  If a website does something you don't like, there are literally THOUSANDS of other ones to choose from.

As far as Zoe Quinn goes, it's not the first time she's been harrassed.  Since she's started work on Depression Quest, she's been dealing with online abuse daily.  Now, with "GamerGate", these gamers have targeted her in an attempt to simultaneously gain the moral high ground and disparage her character and reputation by taking the word of an ex-boyfriend as fact.  It doesn't fit in with "the downfall of gaming journalism" (or whatever they're claiming) but rather, the latest offensive against Zoe Quinn.  There may be some truth to all these wild accusations, but the fact of the matter is that you can't harrass someone over the internet and then claim the moral high ground the next day.

If you have to resort to doxxing people, you've already proved your opponents right.

And again, I say that nobody thought "game journalism corruption" was a big deal when that one guy got fired for giving a 6/10 review for a game that was being sold ad space on the very site he was reviewing for. Or that Jessica Chobot was glowing about Bioware as a game company on her shows, then turned out to have a voiced NPC role in Mass Effect 3 (psst, that's a Bioware game...).

Again, throwing this out here, because I know you ignored it the first fucking time.

Nope, we're going to raise a fuss, now, because a girl developer slept with some journalists to get some reviews to drum up "sales" of her technically free retarded little browser game. Our intentions are noble, but we're throwing our lot in under Sauron's banner, aka #Gamergate, with people that call in bomb threats and resort to doxxing to make points, all started by a raging asshole. We could've made this an issue like, 2-3 years ago when it would've mattered, but no let's do it right now so it totally doesn't look like it was started for the reasons most sane people know it was started for.

Also, at 12 posts into your stay here at PSNP, way to become That Guy by posting about Gamergate. Have you ever looked at a person and just known intuitively that they were stupid before they open their mouth? Like it was something in the way their eyes were set or something? I don't know, it's hard to describe. You'll find that the people that agree with you on Gamergate around here, will be those exact people.

You're focusing far too much on her shitty browser game.. that isn't the point.

Ever seen shawshank redemption? You know the scene where the governor walks in to Andy dufrense's room and throws the chess piece at the poster.. it made a tiny whole that led to the whole poster being ripped down which in turn exposed the tunnel that Andy had dug?

Zoe Quinns reviews/promotion from her Journalist sex buddies is that first chess piece going through the poster.. after that people just kept finding more and more evidence of how corrupt the gaming media was.. before we know it, we've found the tunnel.. the poster has been ripped down and we can finally see the gaming media for what it is.

Corrupt as shit and all working together to push an agenda down our throat.

People can believe what they want, but there's a time and a place to discuss that, the gaming industry is not that place.

The gaming media, well some of the gaming media shouldn't be pushing any agenda at all, whether that be, mens rights.. feminism, Christianty, anti abortion, you catch my drift right..

Gamer Gate is gamers fighting against that, fighting against the corruption and agenda pushing.

Most people with an IQ above 80 don't give a shit about Zoe Quinns sex life, I sure as hell don't.. it's not Zoe's fault that the gaming journalists she slept with have no fucking integrity, none of this is her fault directly, but the exploits she was involved in, helped shed a light on the corruption in gaming journalism.

If you watch the entire video you'll see what's its all about. It's up to you what you do with your free time, I don't care either way.

But nobody can say that it's okay for gaming journalists at different sites to all have a google group discussing what agenda they're going to push in their articles on their sites.. they're meant to reviewing games and reporting gaming news.. not pushing agendas.

These sites in question all released articles on the same day, saying the term gamer is dead and gamers are misogynists.. which is horse shit, I have a lot term girlfriend.. she's plays a lot of call of duty.. which is really the worst community for a girl to play in, given that it's 90% male.. and yeah she gets sexist comments from time to time.. but there's a fucking huge difference between sexist comments and misogyny, which is the hatred of all women.. because they're women.

Huge difference.

Gamer gate is fighting that, not Zoe Quinns sex life.

She is irrelevant.

Granted dumb fucks attack her.. because they're dumb fucks and it's the internet, there's no backlash for their shitty actions so dumb fucks do what they like.

I made videos years ago and got 'attacked' as they would call it.. but guess what I didn't give a shit because they're just words.

Everyone on the internet who shares an opinion will be 'attacked' for it.. that's just the nature of anonymity and the internet.

Doxxing is never okay.. but Anita Sarkesian has doxxed a few people already and Zoe Quinn doxxed the fine young capitalists.. it's a doxxing shit show at this point.

It's a case of either dealing with it or just getting off the internet, that's the nature of the beast.

And on an irrelevant side note, that ex boyfriend posted his shitty story about his break up on his own blog, other sites picked it up and ran with it.

And again, I say that nobody thought "game journalism corruption" was a big deal when that one guy got fired for giving a 6/10 review for a game that was being sold ad space on the very site he was reviewing for. And you missed my point: This was brought up as early as 2012, maybe even sooner. Nobody gave a shit back then. So why now?

Let me tell you, your stupid little Shawshank analogy? You've already done threw the rock at the poster, saw the hole, said "Screw it, I'll take care of it later. When does Minecraft: Electric Go-kart Boogaloo come out?" Then you get enraged when the guard hits you up months later, interrupting your boosting session for Minecraft: Electric Go-kart Boogaloo to tell you about an escape through that hole, and you're confused as to Why Godammit Didn't We Do Something About This?!

This is why nobody takes anyone seriously with this Gamergate bullcrap. Furthermore, this is why every sane person thinks this is about jealous boyfriends, because none of this was an issue till just now. Not when it mattered, just right now.

I don't know.. ask internet aristocrat or mundane matt, they're the guys who broke the news so to speak.

My guess no one knew it was there, the ex bf is just some irrelevant random, no one was exactly looking for it.

So maybe they found it recently and it was passed to some people who linked the dots and made a video about it.. and now it's in the spotlight.

Once again it's not even about her anymore. What started it, is irrelevant, what it's become is what matters.

I don't understand how you're struggling to grasp this.. forget Zoe.

It also doesn't scratch the surface of what they've dished out either.. silencing opposing opinions.. doxxing people, ddosing and doxxing gaming charities..,
