Are you a trophy hunter, or a completionist?

I'm a little bored, so i figured I'd create an interesting topic. Trophy hunters are people who play games until they reach either their platinum or the 100% mark. And usually once completed they toss it away and never look back.  Meanwhile, completionists play games to their fullest while collecting everything there is to collect, beating everything there is to beat, and completing everything possible within the game. Whether it be all treasure chests in the assassins creed series to all of the time-trials in sly cooper. Usually across all gaming platforms. I also have a small question for trophy hunters. Would you still play games as much if there weren't trophies? And if so, why?

For me, im a completionist, and i play across all platforms. My goal as a completionist is to simply see what the game has to offer, and to play it to the fullest. I'm also a purist, meaning that i play through games by myself without using exploits, hacks, or even collectable guides (to an extent). And it honestly increases the satisfaction of finding a secret tenfold. I typically stick to games that i find enjoyable, and ive been thankfully lucky enough to never experience a game that is truly terrible. :D

Trophy hunter, i know there are varied types of trophy hunters but i am the kind that likes playing alone, and playing game franchises from beginning to end, a game has to have a trophy list for me to play now which made me stop playing on PC and drop the Xbox entirely...Uncharted for example, i didn’t buy the games until the Nathan Drake Collection dropped on PS4 which gave me the opportunity to play the trilogy and the 4th game, now i am going for the Vita game and the cards game, i am one of those people who has to play any game in the franchise and the games have to have a trophy list (even one trophy per game is enough for me to buy it) otherwise i wont think about the game twice!

I sometimes can't believe it's been three years since I started this thread. I was in high school sitting at home procrastinating instead of finishing my homework when I wrote it. I played a whole lot of games back then. Now-a-days I can't stand either trophy hunting or completing games. I just play what I like. It's weird to think I'm the exact opposite of what I used to be. And I feel better for it.

Well it really depends on the game I guess...sometimes the platinum is enough and I'm content even though I haven't gotten 100% completion. However, If I really enjoy a game I try to complete everything, even if it's not trophy-related. For example, despite the fact that I got all Uncharted 3 trophies, I'd like to complete the legend sets (which are treasures that have nothing to do with trophies).

I'm both. But  I'm also using trophy hunting as an "excuse" to buy other (simple) games. Before I was looking to get more trophies or a higher completion %, I would've never played games such as the telltale games or 101 ways to die, or one of my all time favourites now, life is strange. Before I actively started looking for trophies, my main games consisted of GTA, battlefield, COD, skyrim and fallout. Basically just AAA games. I found a lot of cool games due to trophy hunting and a few great bargains as well. Games I wouldn't have touched otherwise.Besides that, I like getting 100% on a game, and working a bit on my backlog at the same time, but I'm not actively looking for a 100% completion. Hopefully one day I'll get it above 90% but with games such as BF hardline and blackops III, and the (hidden game on my profile) neverwinter, I know I will never get the 100%.

Trophy hunter.  Once I have all the trophies I can achieve, I never go back to a game.  It just doesn't seem productive to continue to play something, when I could be playing something else WITH TROPHIES.  My one caveat is, however, that I have to enjoy the game.

I never go for the platinum, sure it's nice to finally complete a game 100%, But I'd rather f- around and do stuff rather than work for the trophies. I usually play a game for 10 minutes-1 hour then play another game, then come back to it, etc. Never really sat down and played a game 100% in one sitting.

Well, i guess i didnt really get my point across, trophies are part of the completionist part. But if you dont want to do something unless trophies are involved, then you are definitely a trophy hunter.

Looks like im the lone completionist, in case any of you were wondering, trophies are part of being a completionist, whether it is DLC, multiplayer, or random single player junk. A completionist does it all. Mainly because his OCD tells him to.

I know this is SUPER old, but completionists such as myself will also do everything in a game. Collect every collectable and do every side content with or without trophies, they are just bonuses. When I complete a game I like to be rewarded, preferably, with an in-game reward instead of a trophy. Like how you get weapons, life, stars and bullet vests in your apartment on GTA games as you collect packages. Or a special cutscene (like in Banjoo Kazooie, Scribblenauts, SpongeBob Battle for bikini bottom...)

Edit: Also, Jirard the completionist is a God to me.

To be honest, I admire completionists, but I consider myself a trophy hunter cause I'm not buying a DLC if I don't really like the game, but that's not the main cause bc I really LOVE playing almost every type of game, is something that is inside me, idk, the thing is that if I were a completionist, been unable to have a game at 100% will stress me out a lot.

I think everyone (myself included) here has kind of OCD in the good way, and the condition of having all my games at 100% will make it worse. Oh to the ppl that suffer this, i have TWD on my profile at 98% platinum, just 1 trophy left but it was luck-based so I left it at 98%. Sorry hahaha

For example, even with games I really really love, there's a point when I get the plat, I say "yasssss finally, omg", and then the game cames out with 48923 DLCs (*cough, borderlands, cough*)?! c'mon. Nope, not doing that for the purpose of having 100%.  Just play it cause I love it.
