Popular Post DaisyVilla102
Hi, everybody! I've been around for a while, even posted here in the forums a few times, but never formally introduced myself. Better late than never, though, right? So anyway, I'm not a trophy hunter (obviously), but I love the stats and tracking of this site, and the community here is pretty friendly, so I was happy to become a member. My first introduction to video games was an Asteroids arcade system in the laundromat I went to to as a small child. The next game I remember was Donkey Kong in the Food Town (later to become Food Lion) grocery store near where we lived. I never had the quarters to play, but I used to move the joystick and mash the buttons as if I was controlling Mario. A family I knew where I lived next (I moved around a lot as a kid) had some sort of system with Pitfall and Pong (or copy-cats), and I played that whenever I could. Then I gained a new step-father when I was ten who was pretty strict, and our TV had an actual lock on it, so without a key we (my step-siblings and I) couldn't even watch that, therefore a game system was out of the question. This was about the time the Nintendo Entertainment System and Atari, etcetera, came out, so I caught a few glimpses of Mario now and then on the few occasions I went over to a friends house. I do remember learning if you held the light-gun close enough to the TV, you didn't have to aim at all in Duck Hunt to score. My (new-ish) family did get this little handheld electronic sports game for Christmas one year that I really liked playing, where you attached this plastic face-card for each different sport, and the players and ball were each represented by an LED light. Ah, simpler times... (If you watch Doom [one of my guilty pleasures], and listen to the sounds of the game that Duke is playing in the beginning before they go to Mars, that's what it sounded like.) There was a class I went to weekly when I was 11 or 12 where we had Commodore 64 computers and I loved playing some sort of detective game with what I think was vector-based graphics. And a LOT of text. Then when I was a senior in high school, during the semester in my typing class when we weren't using actual typewriters (yes, I'm THAT old), we occasionally got to play the Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego? video game. It wasn't until I left home for the military that I got to play regularly on my boyfriend's Sega Genesis. Buster Bunny's Hidden Treasure and Flashback-- those were my favorites. When I got reassigned overseas, my own personal mission was to buy a TV and Genesis of my own. And that was the true beginning to where I am today. I kept up with gaming, although it wasn't easy, being overseas and experiencing some upheaval in my life, but I still wasn't as into it as I am now. It was easy for me to lose interest in a game and never finish it. Actually, that was true for nearly every game I played. What precipitated the change in what video games meant for me was the movie Silent Hill. I was in a movie theater in Minnesota (having moved again), waiting for some (now-forgotten) movie to start, when a preview for the first Silent Hill movie came on. The moment the air raid siren wailed and the paint began lifting off the walls, I knew I had to find out more about this movie. When I came home, looked it up, and found out it was based on a video game, I went straight to a GameStop and bought a used copy. And that, as they say, was all she wrote. I was hooked on the emotional response that Silent Hill evoked from me. It didn't just scare me, it bothered me psychologically, and I loved it. Now I HAD to finish the game. And the next one, and the next... So here I am... My PSN ID is taken from Silent Hill 3: Heather lived in Daisy Villa Apartments, unit 102. And I only used that because I figured it might be best if I didn't use the same one I initially used to make my Xbox Live account that is based on room 312 of Lake View Hotel from Silent Hill 2, which is one of my most beloved games to this day. I reckon it's fortunate I'm a girl (woman? female? What's P.C. anymore?), since most people call me Daisy because of it. It's a nickname I don't mind, so it's what I go by in my gaming life instead of my real name. Um... so... I also like to read; I love sci-fi, horror, and action films, and TV shows like X-Files, Grimm, Supernatural, and Better Off Ted, and I'm a big fan of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I used to get ready for work while listening to SpongeBob and Jimmy Neutron every day when I lived in the U.S. Central time zone. I'd sometimes get to work and someone would ask me, "did you see so-and-so on the news today?". Pfft. Nope. Give me Courage, Dexter's Lab, Regular Show, Transformers: Beast Wars, (you-get-the-picture-here), over the "real world" any day. My top three animated shows, though, are The Venture Bros., Futurama, and The Boondocks. I also really love old pre-1960 films. I adore the Turner Classic Movies channel. Hmm, what else, after this wall of text I've laid down? ... Oh, right! Music! I like most any kind of music, with the exception of New Age, newer Jazz, and most Country. My favorite genre is Metal, though. Industrial, Nu, Thrash, Death, etcetera, etcetera, I like pretty much everything. If you've made it this far, I thank you. If you haven't, I don't blame you, because seriously, this is a LOT of reading! I'm always kinda wordy, though... aaaand that may be somewhat exacerbated tonight by a bit of Guinness. So, I'd better stop here. Cheers!

DPtheGod
WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SAN DIEGO!! I loved that game when I was younger! Played it on PC and SNES! Welcome to the forums! I liked your introduction, there is obviously a lot of depth to you in your experience, what with the military and being overseas Also, +1 for being a metal fan! Are you excited to see where this new Silent Hill coming out goes? I think the combination of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be interesting, but who knows what kind of chemistry they can pull off when the smoke clears. DaisyVilla102
Thank you all for the welcomes! I'm glad you enjoyed wading through my short story that I swear I didn't mean to write! Now I feel less like and more like WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SAN DIEGO!!I loved that game when I was younger! Played it on PC and SNES!Welcome to the forums! I liked your introduction, there is obviously a lot of depth to you in your experience, what with the military and being overseas Also, +1 for being a metal fan! I think the combination of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be interesting, but who knows what kind of chemistry they can pull off when the smoke clears. Ha, cool! Carmen Sandiego was pretty fun, especially instead of actual schoolwork! And I can't believe I forgot that for Christmas of 1982 a relative who was stationed in Japan got me a Donkey Kong Game & Watch system. It was my preciousss for years! I am... cautiously optimistic for Silent Hills. I've played P.T. over and over again, and I am very impressed with it of course, but if they make a full-length game based on that whole community-puzzle-solving premise they used for the demo, I think I will lose my mind. You know what would make me really happy, though? Seeing Akira Yamaoka's name attached to Silent Hills. If I see that, it will be accompanied by "Ode to Joy" and rays of heavenly light streaming down from the sky. ...and thanks for the +1, btw! Nice to meet a fellow fan! \m/

LeiFangFan85
Welcome to the forums. Glad to see someone that's a true gamer and a fan of Dexfer's Labortory, even though the last few seasons sucked big time because of Chris Savino. Anyways, enjoy your stay!
DaisyVilla102
Hi, Starrk_01, LeiFangFan85, and thanks! And yes, I'm really more of a fan of Genndy Tartakovsky's Dexter's Lab. And of course I have to watch it now that I'm thinking about it!
SoliDeoGloriaIHS
Welcome to the forums, Daisy. I read all of it and it was very enjoyable. You gotta be somewhere's around my age/generation - 40 years young - cuz I know all about the old arcades - Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Jr. and later in the late '80s, Dragon's Lair were my faves - and I had an Atari 2600 and a Commodore 64. Anyways, welcome to the forums and thank you for the nostalgic read. Also, +1 for SpongeBob. I love him and The Fairly Oddparents and Foster's Home for imaginary Friends. And another +1 for the metal. I listen to everything, but lately mostly Korn and Deftones and the like and EDM mostly Armin Van Buuren, Cosmic Gate, Hardwell, etc. Edited October 15, 2014 by Spider-Man916
Hoshi
That's totally why I never made an introduction myself, I can also be quite wordy. I try to force myself to skim it down, but than I don't know what to write to make it so. Ooo, I love Silent Hill, but I'm too chicken to play them except Book of Memories. One of these days I'll force myself, seeing as I buy them anyway. I know I have a HD collection of 1-3. Or 1-2. Or 2-3. I'll watch any horror movie, though. Even if it sounds completely stupid. Other Clever name. All hail Cartoon Network, that's nearly all I watch. Or Comedy Network. I prefer to use my TV for games, so I don't invest in any big series. I'll only watch The Walking Dead when I happen across it. I did enjoy what I seen of Grim years ago.

DaisyVilla102
Thank you! PipeSwinger, I really like your sig gif! Welcome to the forums, Daisy. I remember always wishing so badly that I could play Dragon's Lair whenever I saw it in an arcade! Didn't know how it was played, but I was always drawn to the way it looked like a movie. So when they released it on PSN, I got excited and bought it right away. Then I played it. And omigosh I hated it, lol. I was so irritated with it I still haven't used the option to watch it without playing. I really should have done my research on that one... someday I'll gather up my patience and try it again. Ah, cartoons and metal... a winning combination (although I do dig Chip Skylark singing My Shiny Teeth and Me) That's totally why I never made an introduction myself, I can also be quite wordy. I try to force myself to skim it down, but than I don't know what to write to make it so. Ooo, I love Silent Hill, but I'm too chicken to play them except Book of Memories. The HD collection is for 2 & 3, and even though it's definitely not HD, I highly recommend you play the first Silent Hill, especially before you play the third. And oh yes, horror movies I'm a sucker for, even the sub-B-movie ones. I used to watch USA's Up All Night with Gilbert Gottfried and Rhonda Shear, MonsterVision with Joe Bob Briggs, and of course MST3K. My favorite serious ones though are the horror-scifi-space ones, like Event Horizon, Alien, and Pitch Black. And pretty much everything I watch is on Netflix or Amazon Prime; I rarely watch actual television programming anymore. I am a season behind on The Walking Dead TV show-- I also need to get caught up on the comics, but I'm further in them than what I've seen in the first three seasons of the show.

I picked it up a while ago, I knew it was one of those three. I know they're a trilogy. I remember the stories of 1 and 3, but have forgotten 2. So it works for me. Provided I get the courage. I don't have netflix. I download and watch on my laptop or buy them. So the only thing familiar to me is Alien and The Walking Dead. I think I'm caught up with the last. I found a marathon a few days ago leading up to the new season. My horror preference is usually ghosts, zombies, and dolls. Like Dead Silence.
