riot mecha challenge

how do you force the flamethrowing, i spent over 10 minutes just waiting for 1 flame throwing, then i ended up having no magic and no orbs and i had to give up the challenge, do i have to position a certain way ?

 

edit : I just got it, guess its really just random, I did one battle over 10 mins and a few tries later I got it in about 2 mins ><

This challenge is seriously trying my patience. I have to constantly run around like an idiot an use up all my resources to make sure I have enough magic and shield and still nothing happens. The main game itself already has terrible mechanics that don't work. But this crap is just a whole new level of terrible game design.
