Thoughts on Starhawk?

I've been keeping my eye on this game and am seriously doubting about getting this. It releases in about 2 weeks here so I can still preorder it, but the trophy list looks just immensely time consuming. I mean come on:

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/CTF-Veteran

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Zones-Veteran

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/TDM-Veteran

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Team-Leader

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Lone-Wolf

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Prospector-Veteran

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Deadeye

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Eagle-Eye

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Annoying-Little-Fly

https://psnprofiles.com/trophy/Starhawk/Long-Bomb

Some of these just put me off completely. And unless the matches are like 5 minutes a piece this will be a 300-500 hour plat because of the online. I don't know if I should get it or not. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are, that far too many people dismiss games based on a trophy list. What ever happened to playing a game for the sake of enjoying something other than trophy content? Some people miss out on some great games.

From what I've seen and played, it could be one of those few games that master online play. the main deciding factor for me will be based on how many are playing by the time i get round to picking it up.

Very true AF, but I do believe that we all have been ruined forever due to trophies. Games sadly just do not feel worth playing if it does not give you trophies. Starhawk and Warhawk both have turned me off due to their insane trophy lists.

I have infact not played Warhawk and that is another factor in why I would or would not want it. I agree with AF here on the fact that it will have to be very active for me to consider it like I am now, which is why I want to get it ASAP or even preorder it to make sure. I aim for getting my acc as close to 100% as possible but not with just n00b games which is why I got Far Cry 2, Medieval Moves and Twisted Metal among other insanely hard games. I've watched the gameplay and it looks amazing but something you will either shine in or fail immensely hard in, which is why the 500-600 overall wins in different game modes are kind off a turn-off. Right now i'm just hoping for more info or another trailer or something on this game that will help push me over the edge and get this game.

Sorry Daniel, with all due respect, I couldnt disagree more with this statement. I honestly feel its this attitude that is killing off 40 - 50 hour epics, because it takes too long to platinum for people. it wont be long before all SP games are 4 hours long and you get a gold trophy for completing it without doing side missions, but then I suppose its also possible I'm just a crochety old f**k.

Eitherway I dont want to de-rail this thread from what its actually about, which is whether or not people will be buying Starhawk, and if they can persuade GIM into buying it. My earlier point stands about activity though. That will be the make or break for this game and in turn the respective trophies for it.

i won't but only because i have the attention of a lemming when it comes to shooting games, i get bored after 10 minutes. But i tried the beta and i CAN say that the BUILDING aspect of this games makes its gameplay very unique and fun (watching a pod drop on an enemies head is kinda satisfying).

As for long trophies, i don't care. I'm a rpg player, if the game is good and fun i'll put the required time in it. Currently playing White Knight Chronicle like a madman on a 350 hours save and growing.

And i play games without trophies too, Valkyria Chronicles, Bladestorm, Elderscrolls 4, and Disgaea 3 (before they patched in the trophies and erased my save :shakefist: ) are a few examples.

And every once in a while i pop a ps1 or 2 games in there.

I've promised myself already that if I finish Dead Space, Pure Chess, Uncharted 2 and Army of Two: The 40th Day online before it's release date I will get it. It's not alot to finish truthfully. I'm being very lenient on myself because I feel like I want this game. Looking forward to a WKC-size online grind lol.

I am playing this game ATM and I'm loving it it's highly enjoyable, yes the trophis are a grind but wouldn't you be proud to have the platinum considering the difficulty of some of the trophies. Anyway it's just great to have an online game that isn't a COD clone

AF, this post has given me an idea. Are there any topics about reasons for playing a game?

Bought the MP portion of the title off of PSN and I must say, this has to be some of the funnest and intense MP I've played in awhile. I've never played a CTF match where my team and I were working together, trying to get the flag and covering each other from fire. There was one match where I got the flag and I was running, the enemy team was just shooting rockets, pods were coming down trying to land on me, mechs were battling other mechs to get to me, and starhawks were in the air battling each other. Everyone was shouting,"Protect Scotty!!! Hold down the line!"

I don't know if I'd say it's the best MP I've played, but it's damn sure the best on PS3 and a well worth price tag to play such an unforgettable MP experience.
