As long as last year wasn't just a fluke I'm actually pretty stoked about the Meyers signing.  The kicking game has been a bit of a nightmare over the past couple of years and, with the Seahawks' style of play, it's vital to have a guy who can get the job done when he needs to.  Janikowski (or however you spell his name) wasn't the train-wreck that Walsh was the year before but dude's aging and injured, it was a problem that very much needed a solution.

Most kickers are very erratic from year to year.  Good on Jason Meyers for getting paid by somebody, but I wouldn't be expecting a repeat of last year's performance.  He may not be as bad as the guy who Seattle waived in Training Camp last year and who Jacksonville cut during the season before, but he's probably getting paid for last season and not very likely to repeat it.

Gimmie a guy who's consistent in the 35-45 yard range and I'll be happy.  Extra points and mid-range kicks have been a huge bug-a-boo for Seattle for three years now.

Eric Berry has been released from KC

They needed to. He's nowhere near the same as he was before his injury and we were just throwing away good money for him to sit on his ass.

It makes me sad as a UT fan, but I think everyone knew.

I feel for Berry, and hope he can make some comeback. He's put up with so much during his career.

Holy shit Clay Matthews to the Rams. :o Wonder if Greenbay will find an adequate replacement. :hmm:

An adequate replacement for an overrated player who is an advertising whore and gets tons of sponsor opportunities because he's white? Hmm.....

If he's smart he'll be able to sit on a beach for the rest of his life not doing a damn thing. As sickening as that is lol.

So I guess the next question is, does Gronk make the Hall of Fame? He won't have the longevity career stats in just nine seasons of work. And his season yards are a bit skewed too bc he only played in 14 or more games just five out of nine seasons.

With that stated, he had four seasons where he had more than 60 catches and over 1,000 receiving yards. Best year was 2011 with 90 catches, 1,300 receiving yards and 18 TDs. His touchdown numbers are incredible as a tight end. 80 career TDs.

Career-wise, had over 500 catches, and just three lost fumbles.

He's been a four-time first-team All-Pro, and been on five Pro Bowl teams.

In the post-season, he has 12 TDs and over 1,000 receiving yards (most in NFL history for TE). And of course, he has three Super Bowl rings.

I'm biased, but I say he's a HOFer. Again, he won't quite have the career stats like Tony Gonzalez, but he has prolific numbers in a limited number of seasons like Terrell Davis. And like Davis, injuries exited him early from the game.

I get the feeling he's going to either become an actor or television personality. I can already see him in cheesy b movie action films

He might do cheesy B-movies, but I think it's more likely he does cheesy "reality TV" shows given how those things have proliferated over the years.  Maybe he can find a niche in LeBron James' new reality show, the one that debuts after Survivor on CBS on Wednesday night (and that I'll leave the television on for because it looks mildly intriguing).  Assuming LBJ even gets a second season out of it.

When it comes to the Hall of Fame merits of a particular player, my default isn't to look at the stats but to apply former Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's "pornography/obscenity" test to the player -- i.e., "you'll know it when you see it".  Obviously it's a standard that doesn't work too well for me for players prior to the early 1980s, but it's definitely something I can apply to Gronk.

And to me, Gronk is a Hall of Famer, no doubt.  He was a force of nature on the field; moreover, he was a player that defenses always had to account for and frequently change their gameplans to address.  His lack of longevity and career stats don't bother me in the slightest, because I've generally held the opinion that we're far too lenient when it comes to awarding Hall of Fame status to players in all sports just because they hit particular "benchmarks", especially considering how some guys hang around an extra year or five just to make more money and pad their stats.  (I'm looking at you, Eli Manning.)
