The new NFL tv deal is official with some big changes in 2023

Thursday night will be on Amazon exclusively from 2023, the Amazon games, like MNF now, will be on an over-the-air station in the 2 local markets

There will be three Monday night doubleheaders -- with games on ESPN, followed by a game on ABC. There will also be a Saturday doubleheader during the season's final weekend

MNF gets flexing, ESPN+ gets one exclusive international game

would have been smarter if Thursday was on amazon and still NFL Network, having these 2 big games Saturday week 17 will be interesting how they work out who gets what, be even harder if there like 1 or very few with implications.

Adding the ability to flex games into Monday Night Football is going to be a mess.  I'm sure this is just another case of doing whatever it takes to get more money, but I can't imagine very many teams and/or players being happy with the possibility that their Sunday afternoon game is going to get pushed back 30+ hours and in turn fucking up travel schedules and practice schedules and all that.

There's probably an element of "we don't want craptacular games between craptacular teams on MNF" in this and using that as an attempt to raise the number of eyeballs on their game, but nobody watches ESPN anymore, anyhow.

Yeah but I believe it’ll only be from week 12, I don’t get why they don’t just put all MNF games on ABC,

the NFL/ESPN has obviously have had enough of average games on a primetime slot

I don't mind the amazon games because I'm in the UK and I watched a few last season but the saturday games and the three MNF doubleheaders I'm not the biggest fan of because personally I just think it's better if a majority of the teams play on Sunday it's just more exciting at least for me anyway.

Because NFL Football no longer has the cachet or the ratings to justify it being on the parent network on a weekly basis.  ABC would rather use that timeslot for their newest dumb comedy, or to air the umpteenth season of "The Bachelor", or some other stupid shit.

Not that this specific decision matters to me.  I don't watch ESPN in my household because I find their politics abhorrent and therefore won't condone them with my ratings presence.  If the Jets play on MNF, I watch the local simulcast.  And I don't watch the insipid prime time programming from ABC, either.  (Also included in this category:  NBC.)

Very interesting I wonder who the 49ers are drafting now a QB maybe??

Then Miami trades with Philly to get up to 6! This is brilliant as a Dolphins fan. They want Chase and 3 is too high for him, so they get an extra 1st round pick now!

To answer, yes, they want J. Fields

Regarding Deshaun Watson?  Why would Watson fabricate all this stuff?  It crushes his trade value because no other team is going to want to touch him with a ten-foot pole after the Ray Rice fiascos from several years ago.  If he gets released because of this, it's probably in a fashion that allows the Texans to void all his guarantees and pursue past signing bonuses for his behavior and he'll never get that money back from somebody else.

I've seen a suggestion from one of the usual suspects that the Texans were the party that leaked this to try and gain the upper hand in their little kerfuffle with Watson, but that sounds equally farfetched to me.  Because it would completely undermine what's left of their bargaining position if true, and it would open them up to all sorts of legal remedies that are spectacularly more expensive and destructive than giving Watson away to another team, not to mention the chilling effect it would have on future player acquisition.

Maybe it's a greedy lawyer looking at what he felt was an easy mark.  And maybe Deshaun Watson is simply a creep.  I have no idea, and I'll reserve judgment until the process has played out.  That's what this country is supposed to be about, right?  Due process for the accused?

....

As for Justin Fields, I believe he's going to be every bit as good as the last several Ohio State QBs have been in the NFL. (/rimshot)

And I still hope that the Jets pass up on all the QBs (assuming Jacksonville takes Trevor Lawrence) and grabs the Right Tackle from Oregon to bulk up their offensive line.  Maybe now that the 49ers have jumped up to #3, the Jets can find a way to trade down to #4 and get Atlanta to jump up for a QB of their own.

The lawyer is apparently representing the girls pro bono and many of the women are only seeking the minimum ($500) in damages. These announcements are to get more women to come forward, if there are any, to make a more solid case. Watson is looking boned from where I'm sitting because all it takes is two convictions for a lifetime ban.

Fun little tidbit, the guy apparently won a multi million dollar lawsuit involving a spiderbite

It’s Official https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31166690/nfl-owners-approve-17-game-season-2021

So coming into affect straight away is Monday Night Football having another game added, in the 2nd last week .

And the 2 playoff implication games on the Saturday of last week on ABC/ESPN, which I still personally don’t like this idea

They're already talking about an 18 game season. It's going to get worse

It could be just me but 17 is worse than 18.  I just don’t like the unbalanced aspect for # of home/away games.  I would’ve preferred keeping it at 16 though, and scheduling worked so well.

From what I've read, they have an actual paradigm they're working with for 17.  You play a non-conference team from the division that you faced two years ago with the opponent determined by standings position and the conference that gets the home game alternates by year.

Of course, the bellyaching over that will get louder just as soon as more people realize this means the reciprocity built into the current 16-game system isn't there.  The AFC East is hosting the NFC East this year in that 17th game; four years from now, the AFC East will again be hosting the NFC East and it won't go back the other way.

But money talks and pretty much everything else walks.  I'm in agreement with the loud players about how the 17th game is stupid and a health risk, but the Players did this to themselves by agreeing to it in order to get other concessions in the CBA.

You know what would be an interesting wrinkle in addition to a 17th (and 18th) game that would also pay lip service to "player health"?  (Not that anybody cares about that, including the players.)  What if you added a regulation that a player may only be active for 16 regular season games, perhaps exclusing Placekicker and Punter?  All of a sudden you'd see some guys on the back end of rosters get real opportunity and playing time and the meta-game around when you de-active key personnel would be fascinating.

The sportsbooks would hate this, however, unless teams were required to publish in advance when players would be sitting.  Because it would make their jobs difficult insofar as forecasting games if they don't know when certain key personnel might get a week off.

So are AFC teams hosting NFC for every 17th game this season?  And reverse it the following year.  If so, that is better.

Bit if teams competing each other for playoff spots (i.e. in the same conference), if some have 9 home games and other have 8 home games, that is less than ideal.

They are getting rid of pre-season games to “make up” for it from a health perspective but it’s not really the same.

How about the Bud Selig approach and the winner of the Pro Bowl gets the extra home game for the following season? :P

Why? ABC is network TV, so you can't miss it, unlike with NFL Network.

Because I prefer all games on the Sunday to end season and they want playoff implication games, what if we have a last week let’s say with only 4 games with any implication?

NBC would want on for SNF

CBS/FOX would surely want one for 4;25

Then you have this which automatically needs 2

i just think it’s a needless thing, They going to get  there main thing, a Super Bowl back on ABC and a divisional playoff game now

Thats just my opinion

Pretty sure I heard Goodell say that statistics and data have concluded most injuries happen in the pre-season so the "science" (I'm getting so f--king sick of that word being thrown around every time someone or someones wants to push something through) dictates that removing a pre-season game and adding a regular season game is actually safer for the players.  Every time that man speaks he exposes how much of a hollow, weasel, tool he is.

Most of the guys who play in the pre-season and get injured are people who either aren't going to make the roster or who are going to populate the back end of things (and/or the Practice Squad).  The top players frequently don't even suit up for the pre-season anymore, so of course those players aren't getting injured.

This is just going to accelerate that trend.  At this rate, pre-season may as well be powder-puff football in a couple of years.
