How's this games holding up on PS3?

Recommended Posts

I got my pre-ordered copy for the PS3 since this afternoon but i don't intend to open it and play it any time soon (stil got the Dark Souls plat to achieve before).

So honestly, for those who have already played this game on PS3 , can someone tell me if it's a graphically beautiful on PS3  and isn't such a major downgrade compared to the next-gen versions.

I'm talking about the graphics cause i know the gameplay is garanted t be totally awesome , at least in my mind.

Yes, Parker. I played Ground Zeroes as you can check on my trophy list. If so  i have no complains about that since i really enjoyed Ground Zeroes graphic wise.

I was a lil' worried about the vast open-world and how well was going to run on the system.

I watched some PS3 gameplay and while the game looks great the framerate seems to be pretty choppy, and that was inside a building so it may be even worse in the open world. There is some PS3 footage out there if you don't mind watching it (it will spoil a bit) and this video compares the graphics between systems.

The current gen systems run the game at 60fps while last gen is 30fps, you won't notice a difference in screenshots but it makes a big difference during the actual gameplay.

I have seen that video a few days ago. Thanks for that, Parker. I hope i wouldn't mind the framerate that much , it just i didn't wanted to buy a PS4 exclusively to play MGS V PP.

I have the PS3 version and like Parker said, it's choppy in some parts but I find it's very little and doesn't take away from the game because overall, it still looks beautiful and is a blast to play. I'd reccomend getting it for PS3 if that's your only option and you're a big MGS fan. This game is too good. Either version will suffice IMO, but then again I tend to not be too picky about graphics and frame rates and stuff.

Btw.. anyone else absolutley adore charging up to enemies full speed and knocking them on their ass with the bionic arm? xD I feel like a badass every time. I love all the different options this game gives you to taking enemies out and It's just the start of the game.

Maybe. But right now i'm not interested in anything that PS4 has to offer.

Same here. I won't have a reason to get a PS4 until Uncharted 4, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, The Last Guardian, and Ratchet & Clank arrive. Oh man, I can't wait for all these games. Now if only Sanzaru Games would make a new Sly Cooper game for PS4...

*Sigh*

The game overall is still beautiful. It plays smoothly, I've had no lag whatsoever, and I'm playing on a 9 year old system. If you get down to tiny details then yes, the game lacks a little compared to next gen versions, but they don't take away from the overall experience. The game is still amazing no matter where you play it.

I'm 240+ hours into TPP and still addicted. Just got the mission tasks to do then disarm my nuke and hello platinum. Would have had it done sooner but FOB missions are amazingly addictive. But to answer your question, yes. It's the most graphically beautiful game I have ever played on PS3. Close to being best game ever, but FF7 and 10 hold a special place in my heart and it might take another 240+ hours to dislodge them. I'll have to play those hours to find out :D.

There are some minor issues caused by PS3 limitations.
Overall the graphics are good, the shadows look bad due to how PS3 handles shadows - it's not an exception of MGSVTPP on PS3 - many games share this issue.

There are some frameskip moments but without any slowdowns in gameplay.
So far the biggest issue for me was draw distance which is significantly lower than on PC or PS4. Not only this makes enemies disappear past 300-350m,but causes a bigger issue:
Even when you see enemies that are extremely far away without any optic (Binoculars / sniper scope) , they may in fact be behind an obstacle that is not drawn and invisible until you  zoom on the target with binoculars or a sniper scope.
Got 98% of the game finished on PS3 and those are the only graphical issues I can think of.
Note that neither of those spoils the positive experience of the game.

I platted TPP on PS4 but I loved this game so mcuh, I got the PS3 digital version to play and of course get the Plat.

On PS4 I had 5 or 6 specialists missing (Needed for weapon upgrades and Armour etc) who would not spawn into the game no matter what and that made the game harder and it took me 915 Hors to get the Plat.

Now I on PS3 playing it and GZs I just hope theres no missing characters like there was on PS4. Brilliant game. Addiction would sum it up.
