 Are you talking about the one for PS2? Or the first one for the PS3 which would be the third one? I want to start playing these eventually too!

Was referring To Disgaea D2 on PS3 which is a sequel to the 1st game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Disgaea 2 on PS2 isn't a sequel since it has a different story. Even though the Disgaea games are numbered Disgaea D2 is the only game that is actually a sequel in the series, they rest have different stories that aren't connected and can be played in any order dood

 

Disgaea games do have some cameo appearances of characters from past games but they aren't related to the story though dood

I'd Say if you want to understand who all the characters are then play d3 and d4 on the vita and you'll have plenty of background for 5. However the story's are completely different so there is no need to play them in order for storyline purposes.
