Trophy: Play 1000 matches online

 

Never again, will I do this trophy. I'm finally done with the online portion of the game, which is a relief since the game is 8+ years old and I was afraid the servers would close before I had a chance to finish it. This took 30 hours to achieve with a boosting partner with a regular controller. Best of luck to anyone who still needs this trophy. Big thank you to my boosting partner. 'My Fists Only Get Stronger with Age' Gen Fu 2020 (The Character I used). This is now my 5th rarest trophy, nice! As one grind ends another begins

 

Note: I used Gen Fu because his down-forward circle attack is the fastest method I could find. If you set the health bar to smallest it takes 9 kicks to kill your opponent. My PB was 24.24 seconds left on the clock out of a 30 second match, try and beat that!

God, this took FOREVER!!!

 

This took me around 28 hours and 55 minutes, alongside all of the other online trophies with a regular boosting partner and it took me nearly a month after getting the 10 matches trophy.

 

Have to also thank my boosting partner for sticking through this long and arduous grind with me.

Finally beat the game. It's not very long. There are 4 areas on the word map each consisting of 4 levels making a total of 16 maps to complete. Now the hard part begins: completing each map with all 5 Feats of Strength enabled. I've got a few maps completed already, but I still have a long way to go.
And I still need to get those two online trophies as well.

One good time to go for this one is against a big group of marsh hoppers. You could also get it at the Metropolis Kleer stampede if you find the secret ammo depot before that part, where you can get the cannon early.

Wow, that's .... eight or so hours of my life that I am never getting back.

 

Getting Dead Rising 2 on release was fun and all, but my God does it have some horrendously annoying Trophies included. Wear all clothing, fill the notebook, make all combo weapons, and so on - it's such a grueling list typical of the early years of Trophies (although, by 2010, I suppose games were getting easier already). I made a decent dent in the list in 2010, then got another handful of Trophies in 2011, but was left with thirteen unearneds for the better part of a decade.

 

Until this week, when I bought a used copy for 1.75 GBP to finally tackle the leftovers. And my lord, it's been painful. Dead Rising 2 is a load of fun, the core gameplay is good, the sandbox is really diverse and well-detailed, but some of the mechanics and the time limit just really suck the joy of playing right out of the experience. Yeah, yeah, I know fans say the time limit is half the fun of Dead Rising, but it's just not for me.

 

For no other Trophy is being on the clock as worrying as for Zombie Genocide Master. The first game famously included a Trophy for killing 53,594 zombies (the entire population of the town it took place in), and for the sequel Z-Genocider 2: Genocide Harder was included - this asked you to go two zombies better for a 'lowly' Silver. You can get that one without too much trouble within the time you're given before the end of the game, but then Blue Castle Games also included a Gold Trophy for killing 72,000 zombies. And that is quite the task with the time constraints you are given.

I'd have felt very cheated out of all these hours of grinding, were it not for the fact that I didn't really have anything better to do this weekend. I'm also pretty pissed that the Trophy tile is only slightly different from that for Z-Genocider 2. But hey, I've rounded the corner, I've gone over the hump, I've managed to unlock this one. Wish this meant it was smooth sailing from here on out, but I still need to do quite a bit of the story in co-op for a stupid online Trophy, and go through all the clothing items in the game - outside of a few more trivial Trophies.

 

The real scary thing, though? As I understand it, Dead Rising 4 is even more of a slog to Platinum. Wow. DR2, to me, is a prime example of the requirements for certain Trophies making the game worse and, well, almost un-fun. Still very proud to have gotten Zombie Genocide Master and to be on my way to 100%, but I don't think I can ever return to this game. Unless there's a mod on PC that nukes that awful timer.

Triple silver trophies earned done! Unravelling a criminal conspiracy in Harlem was very strange and hell even I don't understand that shit very well. Sneaking through an enemy base without being detected and taking down all enemies at once. Collecting all caches in all underground and surfaces all over Manhattan was a real easy breeze.
