I went to Distant Worlds a few years back (I was actually right across the aisle from Nobuo Uematsu! 0_0) and there came a part where he went on stage with Arnie Roth and played Dark World from FFVI.  Normally the song is played on keyboard, but Roth switched the main melody to solo violin, and it made such a huge impact.  It was already a gorgeous song, but it brought in the whole feeling of hopelessness the song portrays even more.

Castlevania Bloodlines

"The Sinking Old Sanctuary"

Underrated Castlevania game released exclusively for the SEGA Genesis that stays true to the series with enticing gothic lore to the sounds and symphonies of a mesmerizing soundtrack, no more brilliantly highlighted than with "The Sinking Old Sanctuary."

This particular theme has always stuck with me, perhaps because of the unassuming opening, which quickly morphs into a catchy, cathartic riff, so much so that I find myself humming it occasionally.
