Popular Post Remilia Scarlet
With the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End only a few months away, it's time to reflect on the top ten moments in Drake's adventures. There have been many, many astounding moments throughout the series' run, all of which have blown me away, some more than others. Uncharted remains the pinnacle of action adventure cinematic gaming at its finest, a crowning achievement for Naughty Dog, and one of the best gaming franchises on the market. Please keep in mind that this list is purely opinion, and by no means definitive. Oh, and spoiler alert. 10. Exploring the German U-boat (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, 2007) Exploring the German U-boat in the jungle was one of the first real challenges of climbing the player had to conquer, and the beginning of the real mystery of the island. What did the Germans come here for? What were they after? Where did they go? Taking command of Drake, traversing the side of the cliff, and finally entering the 70 year old vessel, you are greeted with aged metal, rusted doors, barnacles, and algae. Creepy, unsettling, and beautiful at once. 9. Scaling the castle walls (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune) This was one of my favorite moments of the original game. By the time you reach the castle, Sully is presumed dead, Navarro and his goons have targeted you for elimination, Elena is missing, and everything is coming together at a breakneck pace. So climbing the castle walls? Easier said than done. The fortress is massive, and one wrong move sends Drake plummeting to the rocky waters below. A true test of your ability to maneuver Drake accurately across uneven surfaces, while avoiding detection from Navarro's men as best you can. 8. The crumbling tower (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, 2009) This took place in The Monastery, a level I hated with a passion, but the event was spectacular. You had to traverse extremely uneven terrain, dodge sniper fire, and take out a grenadier. Upon doing so, the resultant explosion from the misfired RPG causes the tower the bad guy is in to crumble. The view is spectacular. I couldn't find a picture, so here is a video of the crumbling tower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9ouMAERPsA 7. The mountain chase (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves) After battling your way through the village with Tenzin (all hail Tenzin!) you get involved in an insane car chase up the Nepalese mountains, complete with RPGs, armored trucks and high-octane orchestral music! One of my favorite chase scenes in video gaming! 6. The chase through Kathmandu (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves) Kathmandu is the city in Tibet that Drake and Chloe get chased through. I was astounded by the level of detail and authenticity presented in this level. Everything from the Shangri-La Hotel to the slums is true to life and intricately detailed. The love Naughty Dog showed for Tibet is very real, and the chase scene is exhilarating and intense, with explosions, crumbling buildings and enemies everywhere. And my favorite part? The fight scene in the hotel. The intensity, atmosphere and sense of danger are unmatched. And the last part, well, I'll let you see for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UlQPKeNHlU 5. The Rub'al Khali Desert (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, 2011) One of the most gorgeous, unsettling, and intense sequences in the series, not because of action (there isn't any), but because of the helplessness and loneliness the level makes you feel. Drake is lost, alone, with no water or food, in the middle of a desert. The game gives you no direction, no path, and you are left to your own devices as Drake slowly succumbs to dehydration. 4. Sully's Death (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception) This was so unexpected, so shocking, that when it happened I literally dropped my controller and threw my hand to my mouth. Sure, it had been done once before in the first game, but that was not as shocking because we didn't have a relationship with Sully at the time. At this point in the series we had built a relationship, gotten to know and love Sully over the course of 3 main entries and a prequel on the Vita. Of course, Naughty Dog did the astounding and pulled a hallucination switch on us. GG, Naughty Dog, GG. 3. The Poseidon Revisited (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception) If anybody gets the reference, major kudos. After Drake is kidnapped by the pirate Rameses, you are tasked with escaping the cruise ship. However, that simple mission is quickly hijacked when a tsunami capsizes the ship. A breach in the hull causes the ship to fill with water. Now, Drake has to escape a quickly sinking cruise liner, deal with hundreds of crazy pirates, and somehow get back to the mainland. All in a day's work. 2. The Train Wreck (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves) We all knew this was coming. You can't have an Uncharted Top Ten without including this adrenaline pumping sequence. Nearly two hours long, high octane, insane, beautiful and intense as hell. This sequence sees Drake hijacking a Nepalese train traveling through the mountains. Not content with just having guards, Naughty Dog went for the mental and included a fucking helicopter to blow up part of the train. And thus, the introduction was born. 1. The Plane Crash (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception) And finally, my all-time favorite sequence in the series, the plane crash in the Rub'al Khali Desert. Oh, Drake, what is it with you and vehicles? Every time he boards one, it ends up crashed, blown up, sunk, or all three. This sequence was absolutely mind-blowingly batshit insane and amazing. The action was well-timed, the intensity was perfect, and the climax was beautifully done. Fucking GG, Naughty Dog. What are your favorite moments in the Uncharted series? closertim
Around half way through Uncharted 2 when you're inside a tall building and I think a heli destroys it so you have to jump out.
lumphy101
I remember my favorite part being the cruise ship part of Uncharted 3. I'll probably go buy the Nathan Drake Collection this weekend.

Boooda
Great write up! I agree with pretty much every one of yours, but my personal favorite moment is exploring the ice caves of Tibet with Tenzin. Theres something special about how he and Nate communicated even though there was a language barrier. Really great moment for me.

Thank you! If you own a PS4, The Nathan Drake Collection just released, so I cannot recommend it enough! Otherwise you can buy all three games at GameStop for about $15 together. Great write up! I agree with pretty much every one of yours, but my personal favorite moment is exploring the ice caves of Tibet with Tenzin. Their relationship is very unique!
Wulfie
Great job on everything. I have a funny personal story, I was playing uncharted 1 on hard. I was at a part with ruins in the jungle, I believe I was halfway through the game. I was having a lot of trouble and I was dieing a lot. I killed everyone but one person. So, I decided to use a grenade, but right after I throw the grenade, it bounded off a column and it came back to me and killed me. I was so mad after that. Arabian_Glory
Awesome list, although I disagree with the plane crash being number 1. I'd say the train wreck or when nate was in jail and he impersonated Flynn

slash
dang dreama, your OP was so good that it's basically impossible for us to follow up with a similar post! but really though, you basically nailed all my favorite moments from the uncharted series. although my personal favorite was climbing the falling train, more specifically the intro part of uncharted 2. it was just so awesome booting up the game for the first time and then bam, your life is already in danger. plus it was a really cool way to do a tutorial. the whole train sequence later in the game was just spectacular too. it's definitely what i think of first when someone brings up uncharted.

StrickenBiged
For me, so far - I'm yet to play 3 - I have to say Chapter 13 Locomotion in Uncharted 2 is my standout moment. That train is a really good piece of level design. Whereas lesser games would have just made it a corridor of linked train carriages for you to shoot your way down, ND made a 3d environment where you could climb on top of and around the train carriages, giving you flanking opportunities and the chance to completely skip some enemies if you're sneaky about it. Dropping down behind the guy with the turret, taking him out, then using the turret on 2 carriages worth of guys facing the wrong direction was amazing. A close second was the fight in Chapter 4 in the same game, at Lazarovic's camp in the Borneo jungle. That is the first big fight scene in U2 and, having just come off U1, it was the moment where I realised just how much better ND had made the combat mechanics. In my first attempts at this fight, I played like I used to play U1 - stay in one place, pop out of cover, take a few shots, repeat. After failing a number of times, I thought I'd change my position. I was delighted when the enemies didn't immediately know I had moved, and I suddenly realised that stealth and flanking were viable options in U2. It completely changed the combat parts of the game from a punishing, chore of a shooting gallery in U1 to a tactical, strategic thing that you could play around with. Third, I really liked the fight in the snow in Chapter 15, still in U2. With the blizzard providing cover, it was great fun to play the predator - sneaking around behind enemies, taking one out, then moving to get behind them all again. Great fun.
mittoucp
The Uncharted trilogy is just amazing, I bought my PS3 with them and also bought the Nathan Drake Collection (Could have got it almost 2 weeks before the UK release if PayPal didn't mess up). I've slowly been replaying the Uncharted games again a number of times and aim to platinum all 3 again in the next few weeks, I think you've got a pretty good list but for me, with games like Uncharted its hard to sum up the greatness in 10 moments. Sikatiiker
I loved the Crash Bandicoot styled chases where you couldn't see what's coming up and you had to time your jumps exactly right and avoid obstacles.
JG-Ray
One of my favorite moments was in the 2nd where the chopper brings down the building. Just pure awesome. oh.....and the chloe spank.
