It's not like going ahead and making an extra manual save is going to hurt. Only takes a few seconds anyway. Basically, to unlock other endings, you need to have completed certain other endings. It would be pretty strange if you had no chance of saving afterwards or even loading back before you've beat an ending to get another ending, if what is required to get the other endings is completing the ending you're going towards.
