Twisted Metal, the rebirth of the ultimate car combat game, has been pushed back from its planned October launch to early 2012, Eat Sleep Play boss David Jaffe has confirmed today.

Jaffe apologised for the delay in a post on the EU PlayStation Blog, he stated that the developers want to keep the vehicle combat game in the garage a little longer, to fine tune it and deliver the ‘best Twisted Metal ever made.'

"With Twisted Metal we plan to ship a multiplayer classic. We plan to ship the best Twisted Metal ever made. We plan to convert a lot of folks who think vehicle combat is a relic best left to '90s nostalgia. And we plan to explode the belief that the only relevant kind of shooter is a first person one.

"Most importantly, we plan on treating you – the kind folks who play our game (and pay our bills) – like the VIPs that you are. You only deserve our best and we appreciate your understanding as we take a little more time to guarantee that our best is what we deliver." He said.

On top of this announcement, Eat Sleep Play are preparing a new build of the game for GamesCom and PAX Prime, which will showcase a brand new level by the name of 'Thrills & Spills Amusement Park.' And to keep their fans wanting more, a fresh trailer will also be unveiled, as well as a new game mode going by the name of Team Hunted.

So us Twisted Metal fans will have to wait a little longer for the bone-crunching car action, and the insanity of Sweet Tooth. Stay Tuned, as Gamescom is just around the corner.

I think this is a pretty good move overall. I'm glad they're taking their time with the game so we can have a fully finished product, and like Nag said, there are so many other games coming out this autumn that Twisted Metal would more than likely get looked over on the store shelf.
