Gears of War 4 date confirmed!

Gears of War 4, which I'm still a little miffed isn't just called Gears of 4, has been given a final release date, with The Coalition's continuation of the popular Xbox series coming on October 11th.

It'll be coming out just over five years after Gears of War 3 released in September 2011 (though let's not forget People Can Fly's 2013 series entry Gears of War: Judgement). A closed beta that shows a slice of the multiplayer - developed in part by Bromley studio Splash Damage - is rolling out on April 18th for those who played last year's Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and it'll be opening up to all Xbox Live Gold members a week later on April 25th.

The Coalition confirmed recently that split-screen would be present in all modes for Gears of War 4 in an interview with Game Informer (spotted by Gamespot), with the game's 60fps frame-rate in multiplayer taking a hit to some 30fps (the campaign is already confirmed to run at 1080p30). We'll hopefully have a little more for you on Gears of War 4 at some point next week.

Oct 11th, God really loves us! QB,R&C,HW2,HZ,ReCore,UC4,FF15 and so many more on their way.

Unless you're here to tell us 5his is going multiplatform, I don't think you're going to get much love for this thread here. Try xboxachievments.com.

Fuck that. Gears of War is awesome. Any fan of action/shooting gaming is missing out if they've never played Gears.

Gears of War is the final thing that could get me to go multiplatform this generation.

Quantum Break is a bullet in the chamber, just need a couple of others before I pull the trigger.

Gears is my favourite competitive multiplayer experience across anything, the primary reason admittedly mostly because I was not just good at it but great.

I spent hours upon hours playing 2 - and whilst I could never dedicate that time to it again, I would love for another taste of that life.

Rushing the opponent's Leader whilst I was the Leader was some of the most fun I had with games.

I know nothing about this title, and fortunately I don't frequent Xbox forums so I shouldn't stumble upon it.  I'll try and catch the general feel of it around launch and hopefully its a ringer.

If you have money to spare and you can find a decently kept used Xbox 1, I would advise you to get Gears of War Ultimate Edition so you can get your groove back. There's a beta on April the 18th, so a lot of pictures and impressions will be out then.

Also, never limit yourself to one kind of brand, it's destructive and pointless. Playstation is awesome but it doesn't have the gems to fill up genres. People keep on saying that PC and PS4 is all you need, it's a lie.

But its not like people don't have internet and can't find out themselves.

Never understood of just copy pasting something from another website and putting it here. But oh well.

Without wanting to come across as crass, money isn’t the problem – it’s the time.

I have an exorbitant backlog as it is; keeping locked to one ecosystem is a way of naturally curbing the collector mentality.

Sony has the gems that shine brightest, and Microsoft’s gems don’t offer anything that can’t be experienced elsewhere.   To that extent PC and PS4 is all you need.  Especially now Microsoft is shipping their games to PC.  PC isn’t how I want to play games so that doesn’t affect me, but I can certainly see the angle.

Gears was the pioneer for the modern third person shooter and one of the reasons I had a 360 – I’m hoping Gears 4 can do something momentous.

Gears of War Ultimate doesn’t attract me – if I already had the One maybe, or if all three were redone.  One on its own is weird.

Nintendo however, if they make a normal controller for normal people with their next console I’m on board.  I’ve had to sit out two generations of theirs.

I'm still waiting for the exclusive that will get me to buy an Xbox 1.  I have some interest in Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Dead Rising 3, and Ori and the Blind Forest; but even cumulative they aren't enough to get me to buy like KOTOR did for the original Xbox or Oblivion for the 360.

I loved the first Gears, 2 disappointed me, and I had a good time with 3.  Based on that, doubt Gears 4 will be that system seller either but eventually enough games I have some interest in will likely add up to a purchase.

It's for the people who ain't fan-boys of either consoles. I have no problem if people want to say what's on their mind.

Damn right, screw the brainless console fanboyism.

Just hoping it arrives in Latin Spanish as the previous ones did. So hilarious and epic to listen in my native language. Not that English isn't the same way :D

You must have saw my comment I left under the quotation? Not all of us just copy from another website and just paste it here.

Ah, okay. Your post kinda implies you already know your preference when it comes to console gaming. That's cool, I can't force you to buy one. PC being a replacement for Xbox isn't true. If people need decently spec computers to run games like QB, KI and the upcoming Halos, I doubt they would want to deal with that hassle.

Here's a video of an interview with Rod Ferguson about Gears Of War 4, if anyone's interested. If anyone doesn't know who he is, he's the current Studio Head at The Coalition studio.

Nice find, Rod has been with Epic since the creation of the first GOW.
