Trophy thoughts on Alienation.

Oh wow. I'm blown away. It can be any level legendary type weapon. For some reason I thought it had to be a level 30 legendary.. Yeah I'm gonna start up a new file.. Probably save my hardcore run for last. Hopefully in one of those 3 runs that I got left I run into a 12 socket legendary. One quick question though.. Does the effects count as a socket slot? I've noticed when a weapon is on the ground it will say "X slots" X being the number of slots it has. For example, saw many a 9 slot weapon.. All of them, even 10 slots, were 9 to 10 actual slots and the slot count didn't include the effects bonus.. If this means that an 11 socket slotted weapon + the effects bonus (to which ppl are calling these weapons 12 socket slotted weapons) will not net one the trophy after putting all max cores in it... I'm baffled. Because I'm under the impression this SHOULD work.

Oh and I don't see how hardcore increases the drop rate. Can you tell me how it does this?

Crushed it today in hardcore. 5 hours, went from 1 to 22.. In that time I got 3 legendary items. First one was at level 17.

Here's what to do. See an experience exoflower? It's a blue plant that takes you from 5X to 10X. Save it. Use it at the very end before you hop on that helicopter. I was soloing for more than half the night. At first you gotta take it slow. But once you hit 10+ you can play more on the edge. Back up your save on the cloud if you're worried. From 1 to 22 in 5 hours! I'm so happy. Heh. :)

I ended up getting 3 12-sockets, with my third one being when I was level 29 on Hardcore. If you're having no luck, maybe do your Hardcore character first and hope you get one during that, as Hardcore has higher drop rate.

Don't think that'd really be a good idea, since you still need 12 max level cores on top of the 12 socket. I'm Hero Level 80 right now and I'm pretty sure I've still only got 9 or 10. You'd have to do the entire Hero Level grind on your hardcore if you wanted the 12 max level cores.

Believe it or not, I've already got 6 orbs that are level 5. I'm finding more on hardcore. As the core hound bonus is always active, and you can't die, you're constantly getting orbs. Even from regular enemies.. When hordes appear, they usually drop like 4 or 5 orbs.. And chests grant you at least 2 and up to 6 orbs. It's pretty solid, man. At first I felt like you, like forget that.. I'm not doing that.. But after 5 hours, and all the legendary I've already got.. If I get a 12 socket before or shortly after level 30 I'm definitely knocking it in hardcore..

Wow. After playing on hardcore for about 7 hours... I already got a 12 socket level 25 legendary!!! Yeah it's on hardcore, which now means I have to grind out all the orbs and all that.. But I'm level 27 and I already have around 10 level 5 orbs.. Crazy man. It has 11 sockets that are able to be slotted and then it has an effects bonus in the top right. Including the effects bonus, it totals at 12. This will net me the trophy once I fill all those 11 slots with level 6 orbs, no? I'm so relieved if this is the case.. I got it literally on the last mission I played this afternoon. I was about to leave and quit after the mission before that because I had to go, but I thought "what the heck? I will do one more!" And then I got it. Heh. Love moments like those.

Just for reference, platinumed today. Last trophy was 20 assignments completed. Ended with:

Sabotuer 30/187 - Got a 12 slot SMG with boomerang on hit, which absolutely decimates everything. Ended up with just shy of 4 million gear power total.

Tank 30/2 (hardcore) - Lost 2 characters, level 12 and 13 both times to ghosts popping up and slapping me. The final character didn't die, although I hear backing up to the cloud might work?

Bio Chemist 30/1

Core farming was a bit of a grind, but I found the best was on Veteran playing missions, they would drop like candy, all level 2s. Doing quick 5 minute runs over and over, I had about 40 of each level 2 cores.

EDIT: Just on the above post, it has to be a level 30 12 slot legendary for the trophy.

I think you misinterpreted my previous post. You need 12 socketable slots on a weapon. You can still get an Added Effect on a 12 slot, but it doesn't count as a slot itself. So that weapon you got won't suffice. However yes you are right about it not needing to be level 30, level 30 legendaries are only for Beautiful Death.

Thank you for that. Much appreciated. So yeah, 4 on top, 5 mid, 4 on bottom.. I'm one slot shy.. A guy on a "Questions thread" called his primary a 12 slot but it only had 11 that were able to be socketed.. So, even though it technically was a 12 slot (with an added effect) it wasn't trophy worthy.. But this is where I got that misconception.

Mate that tip about using the blue exoflower right before opening helicopter bonus is an absolute winner

I have been putting so many hours grinding up to hero 100. After reading that tip I just started to play the 1st mission in Barrow, on professional, and ran around and destroyed three of the respawn posts to max up the level hog, then did any of the xeno invasion blue circles and finished off the mission after making sure I left a blue flower to trigger just before calling in the helicopter. Went from earning 4/5 million a go to getting around 100 million a go. Took just a few repeats to go from hero 80 to hero 100.

thanks so much for the tip as it was taking so long before

just got to do the other two characters now to lvl 30 and its a plat

cheers

No problem bro. I dropped this game. I hate RNG based trophies. Would've platinumed this.. I love house marque and all their games but... wasted many, many hours on trying to get a 12-socket weapon.. it infuriated me.. so, I quit.. I know it's probably way easier now with all the patches that dropped.. it's whatever..

Well finally platted and also 100%'d it last night

Its a solid title but takes a long time to finish. I was determined to do it alone rather than just joining Legend games and accelerating the levelling up as I was enjoying it so much. Had to join a mp session to beat the mothership second time around in World 2 as it was starting me at such a high level that it seemed impossible to beat solo

The 12 socket was very erratic for me but I was lucky as one dropped early on in my first char playthru. Got none at all with my second char and then ended up with three when I was playing the third time on hardcore.

Best weapons I had were ones that added either explosives to shot or boomerang to melee

But I reckon I had my monies worth out of the game as I racked up 65 hours of gameplay and for the main part of that I was enjoying the carnage

The game was certainly no Nex Machina in terms of challenge, but I found it harder than many people did. Speaking as an entirely solo player, trudging through missions was fairly troublesome at times, not to mention dull. While playing skillfully can overcome poor gear to some degree, there's a night and day difference between using some junky blue weapon, or an on-level orange with good cores slotted. It was usually a game of inching my way forward to trigger the next massive enemy ambush, then backtracking to wipe them out—repeat ad nauseam. After you build a maxed out Tank with flawless weapons, I would agree that Alienation becomes easy, even on higher difficulty settings like Expert. Actually getting to that point is the somewhat problematic part.

My main character was a Tank, equipped with an Energy Gun, Devastator, Launcher, and Vortex Grenade. Very overpowered, and has excellent crowd control, thanks to the Vortex/Launcher combo. The Devastator is possibly the best overall weapon in the game, useful at all ranges and against all enemy types. If you're fortunate enough to find a primary or secondary with the "boomerang on shot" perk, hold onto it for as long as you can, because that absurd thing turns the game into a cakewalk. Sadly, I was only able to acquire one for my Bio-Specialist.

Using Shield and Tesla Charge, he's extremely tough to take down. Also, be sure to max the Athlete/Kinetic Assault passive skill as soon as possible, since it adds movement speed and invincibility; I cannot stress enough how important this is for survivability. You can also get DLC armors with additional movement speed in the rewards chest at the end of missions, but I don't know if this stacks with the bonus from Athlete. Regardless, I used them on all of my characters.

Thankfully, a 12-slot gun was dropped shortly after I hit level 30 on the Tank, but it took forever to make the necessary cores for it. I alternated between doing events and assignments on Veteran (the particular mission of choice didn't seem to matter much), and quick UFO runs. As for Hardcore mode, it went smoothly with the Bio-Specialist, and I think I only had to restore from my backup save once.

Anyway, don't be anti-social like meplaying the game with competent co-op partners is probably far less grindy and way more enjoyable. My total playtime (including DLC trophies) was just over 60 hours.
