I feel really overwhelmed and emotional, I never win anything so I'm incredibly grateful for your generosity.  Congratulations to the other prize winners too

 

I've had an amazing time taking part in the event;  before joining up I'd been taking long breaks from the forums and this got me enjoying being on the forums again.

 

I admit I'm sad that this is the last one, but it's understandable with your life getting busier.  The Lottery has been a credit to the community events and I feel as though a lot of the events that are now around the forum are inspired by this one, so that's a credit to your hard work.

This post made me both happy and sad. I feel like in different respects, this was both the best and worst lottery, which is an interesting place to be in.

I think this thread series is awesome, and has been a great read start to finish. I'll just talk about some of my highlights.

Markus buying his game very early, playing, platting, and liking it so much he bought the 2nd one and immediately played that.

How excited Rach was when she got LBP(vita) so she ordered that and the ps3 version. Sure she never actually played her assigned game, but that's OK right?

Eff's hilarious takes on the trials of playing Atelier. I myself have a love/hate relationship with RPGs. They're some of my favorite games ever, but they can also go horribly in the wrong direction.

Bonus: not my favorite, but the entire #hairswish thing really brought the thread together early and helped jump start conversations and added a lot to the event.

I'm bummed we didn't get a little more about a few of the games and I won't go into the drop-outs, it's all been said before.

I can't help feeling however that the decision to put a (temporary) end to the series has something to do with me saying I was going to sign up for the next installment.

As always, good job and happy gaming to everyone involved, especially effdeegee for starting this whole shebang. Thanks for the reward, definitely wasn't expecting it, but I'll take it.

I fully understand your reasons though Eff, your commitment to the lottery is always 100% and if you don't feel that you can give that because of other commitments, then I can relate completely.

 

I loved reading all the comments, in fact, its the first thing I read whenever I logged in.  I am sooo glad I joined the 4th lottery and got a chance to take part in this wonderful event.

I enjoyed being part in this great event and reading all the posts here. I wish I had gotten a game I don't own but who cares?

Unfortunately I was done with my game early and couldn't update anymore

 

Thanks to eff for organizing this great event five times. I discovered The Lottery only in the fourth installment but reading this thread it was clear that I want to take part in the next one.

So it's a bit sad that there won't be a sixth installment but I can fully understand your decision.

Well since this is the end of The Lottery and it seems like the cool thing to do, I'll share some thoughts. 

 

I agree with Hemiak when he said this might have been both the best and worst Lottery at the same time. The people who did participate really contributed to the thread and made it the funnest Lottery for me. It quickly became the first thread I would check out each day and I was genuinely anxious and interested to see progress updates or what direction the conversation went while I was away. For the most part, people seemed to enjoy their games (Markus even went on to play the sequel to his game) or at least gave them a fair shot. Even when people finished their games, they continued to add to the conversation and provided updates on other games they were playing. People also offered to help each other with online trophies and then you had delboy_rules seemingly buying every game mentioned in The Lottery. All of it created a fun and friendly group that I enjoyed. 

 

At the same time, it tied the record for most participants that failed to play their games. No need to discuss this further, especially since this is the end, but that is always disappointing. Oh well, the rest of you all made up for that in my opinion. 

 

Usually with each Lottery, there is something specific that stands out above the rest and is how I end up remembering them by. For example, the first Lottery had the "Max Payne 3 Incident", Lottery 2 involved the search team to track that Angry Birds package, delboy_rules XCOM updates stealing the show in Lottery 4, etc. I'm having a hard time deciding the best thing about this installment. There was so much including:

 

1. Seemingly everyone playing a LBP game at some point and this thread turning into a H4H whore fest. 

2. The #hairswish lottery. Those were some amazing hair swishes and got the event off to a good start. 

3. Razing Storm: We didn't get as many salty updates as I wanted but I thought that one from Clawz was epic. Also, I think 3 people were playing this game during the event.

4. Effdeegee's hilarious updates to Atellier. Those brought tears of laughter.

 

I'm sad to hear this is the end of The Lottery, but it had a great run and they say all good things come to an end. Definitely one of my favorite events on the site and maybe eff will bring back a special edition in the future. I completely support the decision not to hand the event over though. Sure, some people might have done a good job of hosting, but it just wouldn't be the same without effdeegee's silly and crazy (in a good way) comments about the event or his game. 

 

Finally, I was truly in a state of shock when I read those winners/prizes. Had to refresh my browser and read it again to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I've kept putting off becoming a premium member, mainly because it seemed like I was constantly in an event or contest that was awarding them as a prize. I kept saying to myself, "might as well wait until after this event, just in case I win." After never being able to win one though, I find it funny that I finally got such a great prize in an event that I'm too much of a coward to actually sign up for. Thank you so much and words can't describe how surprised and appreciative I am right now. I just kept coming back for the great conversation and friendly community atmosphere of the event. A prize wasn't needed but I'll gladly accept. 

 

Sorry, that turned out to be a damn long post and I rambled more than I planned. 

 

P.S. It seems a lot of you all are in the new "Kill Your Completion" event so I'm looking forward to your all's updates in that. Hopefully it's as much fun as this was. That's it, this long ass post is finally over.

The truth is, I dedicated a lot of time and money to this forum; I'm glad to see it didn't go unnoticed. I feel right sad, like we're saying goodbye. When, really, it's like we're just leaving one store, walking across the street and going into another store together. I'll see you in Hemiak's thing.

delboy - You know you a straight up pimp, right? The star of The Lottery 4 and one of the most engaging viewers in #5? An absolute treat. You're like a rockstar that has a #1 hit; you can go anywhere and someone will offer to buy you a beer, or pay for your lunch. You're like Lottery royalty to me.

Markus - I was hooked on your updates. I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted franchise and was pretty happy to see you get #1. Then, to not only platinum it, but go right into #2, was super awesome to be a part of with you. If I didn't do viewer prizes for the last instalment, you would've won something for sure.

MStalker - First off, ROFL @ H4H whore fest. You've been one of the top supporters since I started this crazy idea and I couldn't let it end without letting you know that. It always meant a lot to me that your posts were always there. You are one of the reasons I always mentioned the viewers that followed along. I felt bad that I never implemented viewer stats, but at least I managed to sneak in some viewer prizes, eh?

But jokes aside since I didn't had to buy my game I didn't had to spent money and don't need any prizes but would have been nice to win something.   Besides anyone who won deserves it and it's not important to win but to have fun.

Sad to see this go but I hold out hope for a 'Lottery 6 : The Return' at some point in the future. I think this has been the best one personally. Sure there were a few people who signed up never to be heard of again but that was to be expected. 3 plats is a record (i think) and I don't remember a previous event having so many regular updates from its players

Even if the Lottery never fully comes back as a regular event I would love a Lottery All Stars event where fan favorites came back for one truly final event.  Off hand I would have to nominate Delboy (because of his Xcom updates carrying Lottery 4 in his backpack) and Rach (she kicked FDG's ass in every stat in this Lottery while managing to get almost everyone to play LBP in some form).

 

Alternatively we have 10 people pick a game and Delboy is randomly assigned to play one of them and then that's just the whole thread.
