AKA Attack them before they attack you --> concept of preemptive strike and scouting for enemie's strenght, weaknesses, and defensive positions.

The best offence is a good defense and the best defense is a good offense.

AKA A good balance of offensive and defensive actions chosen at the right moments can be more effective then an all-out offensive or a tower of defense.

Fool me once, shame on you ... Fool me twice, shame on me ...

AKA Learn from your mistakes/defeats or fail miserably over and over again.

I use them while playing chess or any other strategic game.
